We went Saturday for a late lunch and I was very much looking forward to being at a German restaurant in the local area. But I was truly disappointed. We entered and was greeted immediately. The hostess told us they only have German food today. That's good as that is what we're here for. It's nice inside and decorated in a sorta gasthaus motif including faded Bavarian streamers and big nutcrackers and such. We wanted the jagerschnitzels so decided to get the dinner option which meant it came with a salad and a pastry for desert. Wifey ordered hers with the mushroom sauce and spaetzle and I got mine with just the red cabbage as the side. Wifey says she was happy with hers , me, not so much. The schnitzel was so this I thought it was a joke. The breading pealed right off to reveal a slim slice of meat that maybe was 1mm thick. You can see in the picture that it is certainly no thicker than the blade of my knife. So sad. The red cabbage was ok but it seemed to have a different kind of sweetness than ai expected. The salad was also tiny and was served on what was the size of coffee cup saucer. The content of the salad mimiced what would be on a a mixed salad although the vinaigrette tasted somewhat odd. The highlight of the meal was the pastry. We were given three choices and we decided on the rum cake. It was actually really good. Moist. Also a small portion but then again I didn't get it without the whipped cream or powdered sugar. Wifey thinks she wants to go back and try some curry wurst. I'm not so sure. They also had other things on the menu like split pea soup with sausage, rouladen, and others. We lived many years in the Saarland and traveled extensively through the Black Forest, the Eiffel and everywhere else as it's all so close. Berlin, too, after the wall came down. Have family in the Frankfurt area so we get back now and again. Up the Moselle and down the Rhein! So, what do I know. Terribly expensive for what we received. read more

When friends said they heard this place was good, we agreed to try it with them. I had no expectations and am not an expert on German cuisine. The small dinner menu is focused on bratwurst, schnitzel, and roulade. The dinners included salad, one side, and cake. Sides were German potatoe salad, spaetzel, fries, red cabbage, etc. They have a selection of German beers and wines. We each enjoyed our meals and had leftovers for home. The service was very friendly and efficient. Everything is made to order so nothing pops out of the kitchen super fast. The ambiance was nothing special. kind of a crazy diner feeling with Christmas decorations still up in March. read more

Five of us enjoyed dinner here this evening. There were four different dinners ordered: jagerschnitzel,schnitzel, rouladen and goulash. Yes, we had to wait a bit, but the wait was so worthwhile!!! All of our entrees arrived hot ,nicely presented and absolutely delicious!!! Also, the rum cake (included) was a lovely finish to the meal with our coffees. We will be returning! read more

Saturday evening we had the misfortune of visiting Casa Bavaria with friends who had traveled from Sahaurita and made the more than hour-long trek mainly to eat at this restaurant. They love good German food and with the dearth of German restaurants in the area they were eagerly anticipating this visit. One of our party of four ordered from the "Non-Dinners" menu. Her entree would be accompanied by a choice of side (dumplings or one other side that I can't recall). A few minutes after ordering the waitress returned saying they were out of dumplings. Wait...a German restaurant running out of dumplings at 5:00? Okay, whatever...our friend said she was disappointed, especially after driving over an hour, but asked if she could please have a side of potato salad in place of dumplings. The waitress said that is not allowed and she would only be able to have the "other" side that was listed. So...forcing something on you that you don't want is apparently their vision of customer service. Got it. We asked if she could check with the chef, thinking a small scoop of potato salad could be substituted... especially since they were the ones who had run out of dumplings. Long story short (yes, I know...too late for that) the answer was a firm "No"...or more appropriately "Nein". We were astounded. Most of our party had previous restaurant management experience and would never treat customers in this fashion. Especially on their first visit where one would think they would put their best foot forward. The attitude was "take it or leave it" so we left it. We asked for the check for our drinks and promptly headed to Bubb's where the concept of customer service is alive and well. As for Casa Ramirez...Casa Bavaria, or whatever they're calling themselves nowadays...never again. Apparently they're not interested in repeat customers. I really love German food and cook several Bavarian dishes at home. So, I really wanted to like this place as it's somewhat unique in this area. We were a party of 4 and walked in about 5:15PM. Our server was prompt about bringing our water and taking our orders. That's ALL that happened until about 6:40PM when our food arrived at the table. If it had just been my wife and I, I would have left much earlier. That ridiculously long wait just really spoiled the evening for me. Although the food was reasonably good, the price and the service from the kitchen was not reasonably good. I saw the owner wandering around during this wait and wondered why he was not in the kitchen helping the single person prepping and cooking. Unless there are some improvements soon, I don't see this place making a go of it. There are just too many other options close by. Well there is now another new German restaurant in Tucson which I will be trying soon. Fingers crossed! read more
