I am posting this because I see other recent reviews mentioning problems with this office and their Paw Plan pet insurance. We have been bringing our dogs to Cary Veterinary Hospital for over 10 years, and are now searching for a new vet. The office has changed hands several times in recent years, and has become increasingly pushy about services and their Paw Plan. It never covers any blood tests or other extra services that seem "necessary" when recommended by the vets....but it was our experience with our two senior dogs that sent us searching for other care. Our one dog was 12+ years old, and had the Paw Plan with added dental care because she always had issues with her teeth. Before her last cleaning I directly asked if she was maybe getting too old for dental care with full anesthesia, etc, because she was slowing down. The vet told us if her bloodwork looked ok then it should be fine. After the cleaning she immediately experienced a series of complications where she refused to eat and was looking very ill. The vet kept recommending anti-nausea and food supplements, which we paid extra for, trying to get her to eat. Long story short we had a couple of very rude interactions with the desk staff, and they sent us rushing to an emergency vet who discovered a ruptured tumor, and she had to be euthanized. While we got a sympathy card from the emergency vet, Cary Vet never reached out to us about this other than to email us a bill for the rest of the Paw Plan - for over $700 - for the year because we used up all the services before paying off the yearly plan...even though the last service was a poor recommendation by the vet and our dog died afterwards! Because of this shock we cancelled our other senior dog's pet insurance, and delayed bringing him back to them. When we finally took him to see them for some arthritis pain, the vet was very condescending to us, insinuating we were ignoring his problems and were neglectful dog owners. We are definitely done with Cary Vet. I understand having to pay the bill, which we did, but the callousness with which we were treated by the staff was really the last straw. read more

I cancelled our pet plan back in November 2025 over the phone with a receptionist. In their computer, they don't see where I cancelled. I just received a collections letter stating they turned my would-have-been yearly "balance"over to collections. It's only been 6 months! PLUS it was cancelled! Called and they said I have to have proof that I called back in Nov or they won't retract. She stated there was supposed to be paperwork involved with cancelling. No one mentioned this back in November She stated they've sent multiple emails saying we owed money. I've searched my emails for anything referring to cary veterinary and the only items showing are Paw Plan renewal options/advertisements/info/receipts from previous visits. I filed complaints with the NC attorney general's office, BBB, and the federal The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for predatory charging. If they don't retract I will take this further. read more

I'm a new client here, and unfortunately, my experience so far has been very disappointing. The front desk staff always seem tired, unhelpful, and uninterested in answering questions, it feels like they don't want to be there. My main concern, however, is with Dr. Sutherland. During my dog's post-surgery follow up, she barely checked my dog's recovery. When she attempted to look inside my dog's mouth and my dog moved her head away (as most dogs would) the vet just said, "I'm sure it's fine," without trying again. My dog had tooth extractions, so that comment really concerned me. What if something wasn't fine? Another red flag was when a staff member came in during the appointment to ask about medication and the doctor responded with, "Whatever is cheaper." That kind of attitude makes me question the quality of care and attention given to patients. These are just the biggest examples, but there have been other smaller issues that make me lose confidence in this clinic. The membership plan is also a scam. I paid for their most expensive one because my dog has ongoing health issues, and it barely covers anything beyond basic care. Despite paying extra, I keep being charged for more tests, new prescriptions, and constant medication changes. Overall, I regret choosing this place. I don't feel my dog is receiving the level of care and professionalism we deserve, and I would not recommend this clinic to other pet owners who truly care about their pet's health and well-being. When I first came to this office it was simply because it was nearby and one of my dogs needed a refill on their medication. I haven't brought my second dog here because of all the red flags I've seen. Instead I take my other dog to Banfield on Falls of Neuse Rd, and the difference is night and day. The doctor there is AMAZING and the staff are genuinely kind, attentive, and go above and beyond for their patients. I wish I could fully switch to that clinic, but unfortunately I'm stuck here for now because of the membership plan I already paid for. read more

My family has been coming to this vet for almost 10 years, originally seeing Dr. Bailey. I have always wanted to become a veterinarian so I shadowed here under Dr. O'Kane. I was met with rude remarks from the manager, Cenie on multiple occasions, ultimately causing me to stop my internship. Recently after the passing of one of my pets and the move of Dr. O'Kane I decided to switch vets. The last paw plan payment did not go through and when requesting records for my pet from my new vet, they disclosed in the email that the "client is in arrears". They also told the receptionist of the new vet, to tell the client to pay their bill. Even if money was owed, it is against AVMA guidelines to disclose personal information (including financial) of the client that is not beneficial to the pet's care or related to the records. Not to mention, the account was not in my name at Cary Veterinary but was at my new vet. Yesterday I found out that my cat has diabetes. Once Camelot was was tested and diagnosed, Dr. Bailey took the time to teach me about diabetes, give me treatment options, and show me how to give shots. He was patient, as always, despite how busy I know he was. I have been taking our pets to Cary Veterinary Hospital for decades, because the doctors and staff are excellent. read more

After years of great service with Cary Vet under Dr. Bailey and Dr. O'Kane, who I cannot say enough kind things about, my dogs no longer go to Cary Vet. Per an updated review from my daughter, after losing my 16 year old Yorkie in September to heart failure, my daughter continued to take our remaining dog on the account to Cary Vet. After my daughter began new employment with another vet locally, she requested the records for our remaining dog be sent over to establish a new account at her work place. Her co-worker spoke to a member of the Cary Vet staff who sent over the records with "COLLECTIONS" written on the top and then asked the co-worker on the phone, "Does she work there now? Tell her to pay her bill". Keep in mind the dogs' accounts were under my name and had been for likely over a decade. My daughter spoke, personally, to another Cary vet staff member later in the day who stated the account wasn't in collections and an updated copy would be sent to the vet. My concern is not about a miscommunication or an error, my concern is that personal information was disclosed to another vet that had absolutely nothing to do with the care my dogs received at Cary Vet which is a violation of the AVMA guidelines and I'm sure a host of other privacy laws regarding disclosure. The contract(s) that were signed over the years were signed by me and how my daughter was cited in the conversation between the Cary Vet and the new vet staff member, I'll never know. But I would warn others that this breach has taken place and although the office manager has reached out to me to explain it was an error by a staff member, the damage has already been done. It saddens me greatly because my dogs are like my children and by proxy, anyone who provides fantastic care for them as Dr. Bailey and Dr. O'Kane did - I will always hold great appreciation for. It is unfortunate that after being a long term patron, the relationship came to a conclusion in such a negative way, but I do think it noteworthy in an age where privacy is compromised so easily, that current and future clients are aware of what happened in this particular case. read more

I've been taking my cat here for about a year, and I love Dr. Bailey, Dr. Moyer and Dr. Nambiar. I feel that they always answer my questions thoroughly and I never feel rushed. The entire staff is so friendly, from the front desk to the technicians. It's about a 25 minute drive for me from North Raleigh but the drive is absolutely worth it and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I am having a lot of trouble deciding on the star rating for this. *On the one hand Dr. Moyer is incredibly skilled an deeply knowledgeable veterinarian. My cat had some serious medical issues and he did a phenomenal job explaining every step of the way. *on the other hand it is or at least seems very expensive. You do get what you pay for though they do an excellent job. **my main problem was that during the height of covid a technician would come take your dog or cat at the door and you would wait at the door. Which is totally fine and safe and and I appreciate the prudence of the extra steps in taking safety seriously. HERE is where the low review comes into play: I dropped my dog off and waited in the car. There was a female doctor that day I'm not sure of the name and she ran a ton of extra expensive tests, expensive vaccines he didn't need, and gave him a bunch of medicine to take home all without my consent and it cost a huge amount of money. Then she called to talk to us on the phone and was incredibly rude and scoffed at every question. It was very hard to understand her over the phone and she was so rude whenever we asked her questions. It was an awful experience that cost a ton of unnecessary money. It was that experience that lowered my rating to 3 stars. They are expensive but if it weren't for that one experience I would still recommend it. read more

I recommend Dr. McCann without hesitation. He is extremely calm (which helps our nervous pets) and his clinical knowledge is top notch. It's obvious he's got a great deal of experience. On our most recent visit, we took our cat and dog to him. Our cat just needed vaccinations and nail trim, but our dog was the toughy. He has shown increasing separation anxiety over the past year and we haven't been able to find a solution. Dr. McCann listened carefully to what we were experiencing, did a couple of test of our dog's eye's and ears, and then explained why it was likely our pooch was getting more tense with age as his sight and hearing became less acute. He patiently walked us through the treatment options and gave advice for helping him adjust. He's just a pro, that's all there is to it. It's a bit of a drive for us to get to him, but it's well worth it. I always leave feeling like Dr. McCann cares about our pets and has given them the very best care and attention. We took our puppy here for his first vet appointment, and Dr.Horton was sooo good. Puppy was comfortable with her and he was so much as ease. The office was clean, the baby weighing scale was a bit dirty but Dr.Horton was quick to spot that, but the clinic was clean and spotless (besides that). GREAT THANKS to Dr Moyer and team for the way they conducted the passing of our daughters dog Karlie-Brown, who was 11 years old and a week and a half later [totally unexpected] the passing of our cat Coco who was 17 years old...We had never been though this before and cant imagine any better caring and knowledge of the events about to occur that Dr Moyer laid out for us...even tho very very hard on our family Dr Moyer was extremely caring and professional, almost as if he was putting down his own dog and cat... My cat Bear and I ended up here after two other Vets told us that his injuries were outside of their capabilities. What an impressive place! You feel like you have a walked into the Duke University of veterinary.offices. The veterinary techs took Bear straight back so as to continue his oxygen treatment and get the x-rays. The surgeon appeared shortly there after for a consult of Bears injuries and an estimated cost. This was done in a private room. Proceeding with his treatment we both walked To the back where I met another surgeon and the radiologist who were looking at internal damage found on the x-rays. Bear was in his oxygen chamber, having already been shaved in order to visualize wounds. Arterial and venous ports were already in for easy access.Pain meds were already on board and Bear was resting comfortably. Bear did not survive the night. His wounds simply overwhelmed his kidneys. Calls from the doctor throughout the night kept me informed of his slow decline and helped to make the decision to let him go both logical and empathetic. I truly believe that Cary veterinarians is the finest location you could take your "fur baby" in distress and feel that you were doing your job as a pet owner to provide them with the very best possible outcome. I've been going to this practice since 2004, and they've taken great care of my pets. I only have one concern: each time one of my pets has died, they have sent me a condolences card - which is very kind and thoughtful, and gratefully received - and a leaflet about the "Rainbow Bridge." At best, that's hugely presumptuous and unthinking, especially in an area as diverse as this; at worst, it's downright offensive. It's a shame that their excellent and professional service is marred by their tone-deaf customer relations at a time when people are feeling vulnerable and sensitive. read more

I've tried writing this review multiple times but can't even begin to find the right words to express my gratitude towards Dr. Bailey and the entire CVH staff for helping me and my boy Peanut deal with kidney disease. A CKD diagnosis for a 15 y/o cat is never easy to hear but the quality care they provided and the compassion they showed to me and to P ensured our last months together were as comfortable and happy as possible. While our loved ones are never with us long enough, CVH gave me the gift of time. I can't imagine any other place or group of people that I'd trust with my four-legged family more than CVH. Dr. Moyer and Dr. Bailey have treated our cats and dog with the utmost care and professionalism, explaining thoroughly every aspect of my cat and dog's health issues we have dealt with. We have been clients of theirs for nearly four years (since moving to the area from out of state), and couldn't be happier. The doctors and staff are friendly and kind, and really know how to keep our pets calm and healthy. Dr. Moyer has been treating my little dog for an unfortunate kidney disease, and went so far as to get her into a study at the NC State School of Veterinary Medicine which enabled us to learn even better ways to treat and manage her disease, as well as save us dollars during the length of the study. Dr. Moyer has gone above and beyond to help us, and will continue to serve our pets, helping them as they age. You can't find a better clinic in Cary. I highly recommend them. read more

While the staff is very friendly, they did very little to help my very sick pets. I adopted two kittens from the SPCA and they both ended up with upper respiratory infections and conjunctivitis. They kept passing the infections back and forth but the vet would never put both on antibiotics to treat them both so the passing would stop. They blamed this on the vaccination that my oldest cat had that should have prevented this. After about 3 months and over $2,500 in vet bills, my cats got so sick I thought they were going to die. I gave up on CVH and tried a new vet and the new vet was shocked to see how sick they were. Their eyes were swollen shut and both had glands in their neck that were 3 times the normal size. The new vet was smart and gave them both antibiotics that cleared it all up in 3 days. The new vet also mentioned to me that my pets looked as if they had been neglected. On top of the infections they had untreated worms that got out of hand as well. To make matters worse, CVH didn't keep clear records of what vaccinations my kittens got, so they had to do them all again. This cost me another fortune. I would never recommend CVH because they failed to treat a simple illness that is so common among adopted pets. I left that vet feeling robbed and hurt. read more
