Progressive roadside assistance recommended Mavis in Milford, so I had the vehicle towed there. The following day, I was told the battery was the problem. I specifically asked what was absolutely necessary because I needed reliable transportation--not a list of repairs simply because something could be replaced. I ultimately paid $1,713.38 for a battery, four tires, oil change, tune-up, spark plugs, two air filters, brake pads, alignment, additional parts, and labor. I was told the vehicle had been test-driven and was operating successfully. Within hours of bringing the car home, it broke down again. My significant other experienced smoke coming from under the hood when trying to start it, and the engine would not turn over. The vehicle was then towed to Mavis in Honesdale, where I was told the issue appeared to involve the wiring harness, but they did not have an electrical technician and recommended a dealership. I subsequently paid to have the vehicle towed another 34 miles to Matt Burne Honda in Scranton. After waiting nearly two weeks for a diagnosis, Honda determined that the vehicle needed a new starter, engine harness, and negative ground wire--an issue that was not resolved by the extensive work performed at Mavis Milford. When I contacted Mavis, I initially understood that the store manager was willing to refund my money. I was later told only the battery would be refunded. After further communication, the manager offered to replace the parts Honda identified and refund the previous labor, but not the parts. I am still struggling to receive full reimbursement, even after speaking with the regional manager. Meanwhile, I have incurred additional towing and rental-car expenses because my vehicle has been unavailable. What makes this even more concerning is that on September 28, 2026--just days ago--the Pennsylvania Attorney General announced a $215,000 settlement with Mavis Tire Supply, LLC, resolving an investigation involving allegations that Mavis recommended and charged customers for unnecessary repairs, billed for services that were not performed, and failed to complete repairs in a skilled and workmanlike manner. The settlement includes $190,000 designated for consumer restitution. I am not claiming that the Attorney General's allegations establish what happened in my individual case, but the timing and nature of the allegations are certainly concerning given my experience. I chose Mavis because I needed my family's only vehicle properly diagnosed and repaired. Instead, I paid over $1,700, experienced another breakdown within hours, paid for multiple tows and rental transportation, and have had to fight to be fully reimbursed. I would strongly encourage anyone considering major repairs at this location to get an independent diagnosis and a second opinion before authorizing extensive work.
