An art school connect to the campus of museums and galleries. This is a daunting task if one…read morethinks about it. But for Steven Holl, the architect, this was no challenge. Just whip up his usual solutions. The outdoor space and the roof garden are well done. The interior with the gray concrete and metal stairs in the main circulation is a straight imitation of Wright's Guggenheim and Escher's staircase is ugly and brutal. I only feel sorry for the students who have to inhabit such a banal space in a long stretch of time. Let's just say had I been a student here, I will be avoiding all my classes and be smoking on the roof instead.

End of 2013 Lotus and Master Potter V. Chin revamped a house V owned in the Heights to be a ceramic studio and moved into the new studio in 2014. In 2015 Lotus hired her first instructor, Stacy @kuropottery, a former UoH student of Lotus'. In 2016 Lotus hired Becky @exoticbijou4u, to help with communications and scheduling. In 2017-2020 Lotus hired several more instructors to help teach the now growing classes. 2020-2021 Third Coast Clay closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. August 2021 Third Coast Clay opened the doors at the new studio where she and several other ceramists teach up to 10 different 8 Week Ceramic Sessions, Touch N Go Mini lessons for a ceramic wheel experience, Guest Artist Workshops, 2022 Third Coast Clay hosted Guest Artist Workshops, ceramic themed Art shows and events, and Kiln Firing Services.

My girls (7yr and 9yr) started with a short spring break camp but asked to stay on and now love their weekly art and crochet classes. They never complain about going and never want to miss a class, which says a lot for busy kids this age! Since, their skills have improved much and I'm always impressed to see the projects they bring home. If you take a peek at the other student's work displayed, your mind will be blown. It's encouraging to see other parents entrust their extremely talented children to this school.

The Glassell school offers all sorts of art classes for all ages, from jewelry-making to figure drawing and portfolio preparation. The school also brings art to the general public through its outreach programs - check the website for more info. This isn't the kind of place to visit necessarily, though you can tour the Core fellows' studios on occasion.
