Right when you walk in, it feels like instant fun. The host was pleasant and got my daughters set up right away with plastic bibs and shoe booties to protect your clothes. She also confirmed what size canvas they wanted. I left at that point because although I paid for the experience, it was for the 2 girls. I can tell you fun happened that day. They came out bubbling about how good a shot one was and how it was so much fun and how they got to paint on the walls after they spun the canvas. They will go back in a few days to pick up their painting after it fully dries. There is a few different experiences that you can do so I'm sure my girls will be back!

We were assisted with confirming our art piece and selecting the colors. We were able to put on protective gear and get started right away. The staff were very helpful during the process and ensured our paints were full. I enjoyed being in our own space, away from others. one thing I wish I could compare more is the price ($80 per person). We did the smaller bears and other locations have it starting at $50. I understand things cost money, but that was pretty steep, in my opinion, for an experience that lasted all of 15 minutes.

John and Judy are insightful and patient teachers who know and are passionate about their craft. I always feel welcome to explore new projects while being supported in the process. I feel that all students are given the opportunity to both relax and learn.

I discovered this family run studio conveniently located in Montrose last July and I'm so pleased…read morethat I did. I started out in the beginner class with no previous experience and quickly learned the basics. The beginner class is a reasonable $170 for a 5 week session and you can count on coming home with 6+ pieces. Your final class will be a potluck, work reveal and Raku firing. John and Judy allowed me to take the beginner class for a few sessions until I was confident enough to move forward to the intermediate. I'm currently taking 3 month intermediate sessions with the option of extra studio time on Saturdays for $5. I love to come to class and unwind on Monday nights after a long day; playing with clay is really a form of therapy. The owners are there to assist you hands-on and help you achieve the best result (as are some of your classmates that have been students here for many years). John and Judy often have a different approach to their craft, which is beneficial in that you're exposed to more than one perspective and technique. The best advice that I can give is to eliminate your expectations. Almost every piece you make will look different than you envisioned, but you'll learn to love the unpredictability.

The online booking was super easy to make and I signed my friend and I up for an individual wheel throwing lesson for 2 people. The studio has its own parking lot and is beautifully decorated. I love the fridge with the complimentary drinks! I've never been to a pottery studio that offers this as an amenity and it was amazing. I had originally booked with Mimi who wasn't able to make it and ended up getting a lesson from Abbie, one of the owners of HTX Clay. Abbie was a great teacher! I've taken pottery classes before but it was my friend's first time. We each made 3 pieces in the 2 hour class and picked 2 pieces to fire and glaze. The glaze selection here is great and I'm excited to see how our pieces turn out! I wish this place existed when I still lived in Houston! I would have loved to get a membership here. One thing that I found unique compared to other studios I've been to is that clay experience isn't required to get a membership and on-demand education is included.
