I think a piece of my childhood died. Actually I'm not an East Coaster, but I do remember one summer when I was a puppyish ad agency intern living at NYU and treating myself to a big soft serve cone at Carvel. All these years later, I walked by after a Broadway show and saw the place was thriving with quite a few cops enjoying their ice cream. Good sign I was thinking. I decided to order the $5.79 small cup of the Chocolate Vanilla Twist with pieces of Reese's peanut butter cup since I couldn't leave well enough alone (Photo 3). It was intensely thick hovering on the border of frozen and congealed. It just didn't satisfy even though it was likely the same Carvel I enjoyed all those years ago. Was it my palate that changed or their formula? (Shrug) SOFT SERVE - 3 stars...thick but not that appetizing AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...felt safe with all the cops but nowhere to sit SERVICE - 3 stars...honestly can't remember TOTAL - 3 stars...just not the same for me RELATED - Hungry in NYC? Here's my collection of places l've patronized and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2YS9ELS

Mint choco with biscoff crumble
Mia H.

I came here for a sweet treat and it wasn't a bad spot! The inside of the shop is a bit small and there were a bunch of boxes when I went, so it was a bit cramped. There isn't any seating inside but they do have seating outside for you to enjoy your ice cream at. I just wish the inside had more seating for enjoying your ice cream there. They have a bunch of ice cream, soft serve, and other cold treat options alongside with a variety of toppings. I got the mint chocolate ice cream with biscoff crumble and it was good! Good, casual spot for a nice cold treat on a hot day.

Swirl soft serve

I was really wanting a soft serve ice cream and passed by here and had to get one. I ordered the swirl and just a regular size and the girl made it perfect and didn't skimp on the size . I also had to order some bon bites and since the heated them up they were so good. If you're in time square and need some soft serve or pretzels or Cinnabons then don't miss this place.

What a wonderful treat that never disappoints. Great service and really good ice cream. I like that this location is open later for a nice good interest after a long day of walking.

Vanilla soft serve

No seating inside and outside is usually taken. Ice cream was good, I wish I was given more toppings. There was no line so the service was quick and easy.

I heard great things about Carvel Ice Cream, but found it unremarkable. Really, was just average ice cream, and hard scoop was actually quite soft.

Dairy free Oreo milkshake

I love how quick and convenient the service is here. If you're looking for a fast and satisfying ice cream fix comparable to Cold Stone, this is the spot. Personally, I prefer Carvel over Cold Stone because I feel like I'm getting better value for the price, and the ice cream tastes higher quality. As someone who is dairy-free, I'm always thrilled to find multiple non-dairy options. Carvel didn't disappoint--offering flavors like mango sorbet, cookies and crème, chocolate, and a few others. It's refreshing to have choices that fit my dietary needs. That said, I couldn't resist sampling a bit of my friend's ice cream, and it was incredibly creamy! My dairy-free option didn't have that weird aftertaste some non-dairy ice creams have, and it delivered the kind of sweet treat experience I was hoping for. The shop is efficient and well-run, but be aware that seating is limited--there are just two small tables outside. You may need to grab your ice cream and take a walk. I gave Carvel 4/5 stars for two reasons: first, while the ice cream is good, it's not the very best quality out there. Second, the flavors, while solid, aren't particularly unique or inventive, which is something I always look forward to when trying new ice cream spots. That said, I'll definitely be back, and I'd recommend stopping by for a sweet pick-me-up!

Lemonberry Crumble Soft Serve

My Lemonberry Crumble Soft Serve was bland. The cone was soggy. The staff members were polite and friendly though. The shop looks clean. An okay place for an ice cream but don't have high expectations for it.

While walking around Midtown, we stopped by Carvel for some ice cream. I know they're not unique to the area, and there are some locations close to home. I don't think I've been to another Carvel in the recent years. The inside is small, with some colorful ice cream cakes and a variety of ice cream flavors to choose from. There's no seating inside. My friend got the Chocolate Chip Mint and I got the Chocolate Hazelnut. The Chocolate Hazelnut tastes JUST LIKE Nutella. Yum, I enjoyed it so much that I forgot to take a picture. My friend also enjoyed her mint ice cream and it had some chocolate chunks in it. It would be nice if they offered some seating inside. The outside had a table but there was an odor and there was trash all around it. I would like to try this ice cream again, but preferably at a different location.

Chocolate and vanilla soft serve swirl
Dan D.

THIS is the famous Carvel soft serve? It has no flavor. The vanilla and chocolate are basically two different colors of the same stuff. If my eyes were closed I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. As soft serve goes, it's very creamy, and not sweet. I was glad I got a cone because it otherwise wouldn't have tasted of sugar. The cheap-looking, cheap-feeling, and destined-to-be-thrown-away plastic holder, which keeps it from dripping on your hands, sucks any charm out of the experience. The service was fine. On a rainy March Saturday at lunchtime, the only other party was picking out ice cream cakes (no line).

A Cinnabon roll with ice cream
Jose F.

I really liked this carvel. The staff was so patient and friendly . They made my family some great snacks. Cinnabon rolls with ice cream on top and caramel!!!! It was so good . I was so full and happy . I can't wait to go back .

Ice cream Was so bad, the ice creams tasted so bad, we couldn't taste anything and the topping were so ass

The ice cream was so bad, tasted like nothing, at least the employees were sufferable. The topping tasted old and the ice was either watery, flavorless or too sweet overall the ice from this place is not the best. You can make better ice cream at home I promise !!! (Btw I dropped 12 dollars for these two cups)

Mint soft serve
Neha G.

Stopped by to try the soft serve today in honor of their 90 cent soft serve day. What better way to try it when the price is low! They have chocolate, vanilla, horchata, and mint. I decided on mint cone. The cone is stacked high with soft serve and comes in a plastic cover that makes holding the cone easy. I was surprised how much soft serve you get! The soft serve was creamy and not overly sweet. I'd say average, nothing out of this world. Service was quick. No restrooms. Small shop mainly for to go items. They had one small table outside. Also, they carry a variety of ice cream cakes ready for purchase.

I've never tried a Japanese cheesecake before and was extremely excited to be able to pick up some treats for my coworkers as well as my partner's birthday cake from Keki. Ordering is fairly straightforward and done with a simple machine outfront. Once your order is ready one of the staff members hands it to you through a window; there is no inside area accessible to customers but our food came quickly and we took it back to the office. The cheesecake was fantastic. I read a bit about the background of the shop online and how the owner really cares about using high-quality ingredients, specifically dairy. It was justas described, light and bouncy. I enjoyed how it was not overly sweet and found that it was all too easy to devour the entire cake over the course of two days. Despite it not having much weight to it, it traveled surprisingly well as I took it home on my three train commute! Similar to what others have said, the real highlight of the shop, in my opinion, are their cream puffs. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the outer layer was thin yet had a nice little crunch to it. We tried the classic milk, cookies & cream pistachio and ube flavors. Our favorite was the pistachio by far, which had such a unique yet decadent flavor and our second favorite was the milk cream puff. There's not much else I can say other than you really have to go here and try the desserts yourself. If you're a fan of Japanese desserts that are rich yet not too sweet, you'll be a fan of Keki.

There are lots of other tart places that do something sinilar and didn't really think these were that memorable. But read this keeping in mind I didn't try to cake items so that product may be better if all you're looking for is a light fluffy dessert that's not too sweet. Try something else here! Just did take out option here so not much to ambiance or service from my experience to speak on.

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
