Truthfully, I wanted to give this review four stars because the door stuck and we almost walked away, but my husband insisted that the review should be based on the ice cream and service alone. Five stars because the ice cream was off the charts delicious and the man who served it was absolutely so sweet and nice. The chocolate dip cone is always a 10! Pretty standard Carvel. Minimal seating. A little bit of a retro feel. It's not my favorite ice cream in town, but my kids will happily eat it. The store is mostly for things you can take to go. The people working here were nice and handled the waves of customers who came in (even on this very cold day!). The plastic cover around the cake cones is brilliant! On 9/5 I ordered a kids cone soft served ice cream with peanuts topping and there was a small hair in my soft serve ice cream. I showed it to the girl who sever it and she replaced it but talked shit about it only being a small piece of hair and laughed about it to her colleague while I was still in the store and could see AND hear. I started to say "So you're not going to throw out the peanuts and replace it with fresh supplies? Ask your colleague to pull her ponytail into a bun so this doesn't happen again?" But I stopped myself and walked away. Then when my back was turned the girl asked "So you're not gonna what? You're not gonna what?!" she was combative for no reason. So I turned back and told her I I heard and saw her talk about me and that wasnt professional or right. She gave a fake apology with an attitude. I didn't see a name tag to know her name but she was about 5'4 olive complexioned Latina/hispanic with blonde highlighted hair braided into 2 French braids whatever you call them. She doesn't need to be in any type of customer service role. Nobody on that evening shift on 9/5 should be. They give the store and brand a horrible reputation. read more

So I just had a Fudgie the Whale cake for the first time in 25 years or so, and it was AMAZING!! I was amazed at how delicious it was - the fudge was delicious and it tasted like an ice cream sundae. I was in a room of picky eaters and we all said "wow!" I will definitely be back for more cakes! read more

Did I just crawl out from underneath a rock? Do I have stupid stamped boldly on my forehead? Was in the area and wanted a quick treat for the kids and I. Saw this Carvel and felt nostalgic for my own youth. Went in for 3 SMALL cones. Didn't see a list of prices, a costumer was browsing the freezer touching everything without gloves nor a mask. I should have just left but..... you know how jonesing for ice cream goes. $17.00. Yes, that's not a typo. $17 freaking dollars for 3 small cones. Yeah, I splurged on sprinkles but still. 1 cone was huge and the leaning tower of Pisa.... of course that was for the baby and most of that cone landed in the parking lot. Customer service was meh. The ice cream itself was ok, not great and certainly not as good as I remembered... the kids were like "boy dad, you had crappy stuff growing up". I guess I did. But for $17 dollars we could have 3 bowls of red mango or other place with multiple toppings. Carvel has lost touch with reality and what people will spend for a treat. Comparative substitution. Won't be back. Ever. Shame though, corporate world Screwed up a favorite childhood memory. read more

Carvel is one of my favorite Ice creams in life! On Wednesday's it's buy one and get one free! It' a chain of restaurants that you can't find in the South, so it's a treat to enjoy it here. read more

Absolutely disgusting. Horrible customer service and really unhelpful employees who roll their eyes and act like they're offended to be doing their job. This spot in particular is filthy with plenty of dirt build up on the windows and glass. I didn't realize it was so difficult to maintain a simple ice cream shop and hire people who can actually interact with customers in a civil manner. I'm really surprised this place stayed open for this long. read more

Typical Carvel soft serve ice cream (custard, for those of you from the Midwest). It's a guilty pleasure. There is a very cute mother daughter team running the place. I tried the salted caramel flavor, which is limited edition, that I really liked. Sometimes you don't need high concept ice cream. Sometimes Carvel is perfect. This store is a mile or two from the location of the original Carvel ice cream stand. read more

Carvel has always been the best in my book. But man, the large custard cones sure are expensive these days! They still have the best vanilla custard ever. But after getting the chocolate custard cone at this location, it tasted totally different...way too chocolatey, much too chocolatey - not like the good ole chocolate Carvel custard. Why? I don't know but I'll try a different location to see if this was just a fluke. (though very friendly service at this Central Ave. location) read more

My GPS got me lost coming to the this carvel. I am so glad I was able to figure out how to get here! It's located in the same strip mall as tj maxx so be careful that your GPS does not take you to chase bank like mine did. I walked into the store and I was not expecting much. The atmosphere of the store was less than stellar. It was not the kind of place you sit and enjoy your ice cream but they did have a few stools. I sampled Nutella and vanilla soft serve. Both were SO thick and delicious. I could not decide what to get. I finally settled on Nutella as this was the last weekend they have the flavor, sadly. I am so happy I got the Nutella. It was seriously one of the best ice creams I have ever eaten in my life. The consistency was thick and never melted in the heat outside. The color was perfect as well. When I went to the tuckahoe carvel I was disappointed in the Nutella being identical to chocolate and just not very tasty. This one had a totally different recipe and the light Nutella flavor was out of this world. Their toppings bar was great too. They offered one of my favorite toppings that I rarely find anywhere- vanilla crunchies! I bought a side topping that only cost $1.50. My only complaint is my medium was way too stingy! It only weighed 9.5 ounces on my food scale. It was so incredibly delicious that I could've eaten two larges! read more

dirty store, poor service. It amazes me that a brand like Carvel would let a guy with zero customer service skills and little concern for quality run one of their stores. Do yourself a favor and buy your ice cream from someone who understands that a visit to the local ice cream shop is supposed to be a happy, fun experience- not a low budget money grab. This guy was rude and actually got mad at me for asking about Carvel coupons sent to me in the mail! Dude needs to find another job or realize he's supposed to be selling smiles. We were in Carvel the other night for an ice cream treat and were very disappointed in the quality of the ice cream. The coffee flavor was so weak that in a blind taste test, you would be hard pressed to come up with a flavor. The rum raisin tasted like vanilla ice cream with with some dried raisins thown in it. Really disappointing for a firm that has specialized in ice cream for seven decades. Whoever is in charge of quality control at Carvel is making Tom Carvel turn over in his grave! read more

i still think in my opinion that carvel soft ice cream is the best and even though it does not taste the same as back in the day i still rank it as my favorite . i was on central ave in hartsdale on my way to the messy tj maxx and knew on a hot july summer day that i hade to hit carvel. place is fairly small with limited seating but i recommend that you take it to go and enjoy your treat outside or around the large parking lot area. the ice cream cakes are always a crowd pleaser as well as the flying saucers , sandaes , shakes , non soft ice cream , etc but for me it's a double soft cone of vanilla and chocolate with rainbow sprinkles , yes they have a bunch of other toppings but i like to keep it simple. my cousin ordered a massive banana split with the works and i was like damn maybe i should have ordered that. the prices are fair ,my cone and a banana split cost me about 14 bucks and the folks behind the counter seemed happy being there . whenever i treat myself to carvel ice cream it takes me back to my youth when my buddy porcelli the slob along with brother nunu and i would cruise up and down central ave just wasting time and having fun on a saturday night . read more
