I would give them a 0 if possible! I needed an adapter for…read morethe end of my pvc pipe because I was replacing my sump pump and the new one had a bigger attachment than the old one. The first person I encounter was a tall skinny young man who led me to the correct aisle but didn't seem to know what I was talking about. After several minutes of shuffling through different pieces, I asked if there was someone else who could help. An older man came to assist. I explained to him what I needed and he also had that same look on his face as if he didn't have a clue what I was talking about and acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. He led me to the next aisle where he showed me a rubber piece that he said would work better. I just had to cut off the current end of the pcv pipe and push that on. I said, that isn't going to work because I need to screw the end into the stand of the new sump pump. The man insisted and I told him I was going to call my neighbor and ask him about his suggestion. As I walked away I could hear him tell the younger man, you have to just walk away from women like that who do t know what they are talking about. I said, I can hear you and he yelled back what are talking about and I said, I heard what you said. As I continued to walked toward the exit door he yelled, he continued to yell. I couldn't make out everything he said but I e thing he said was, we weren't even talking about you. There were no other customers present at the time. I told him I would be taking my business elsewhere. I went home, picked up my neighbor and went to the Ace Hardware in Kaukauna. We walked in, I told the man what I needed and within 2 minutes he had the exact piece I needed!!

Northside True Value lost me as a customer before I even purchased anything. The experience of…read moretrying to buy something from them online was bizarre and it's a good example of how communication skills and good customer service skills are so important in business. They had an item (chainsaw) listed on eBay that I was interested in but I had a couple questions that I needed answers to before I bought it. So I sent a message to them through eBay. I received a response that was so illiterate that I simply couldn't understand it. I only had three questions. 1) Did they happen to have the same chainsaw but with a longer bar than the one listed on eBay (they are an authorized dealer for the brand)? The chainsaws are exactly the same but it can be ordered with several bar lengths and I wanted a longer bar. 2) If they had it with the longer bar and I ordered it directly from them would it still include free shipping as the one on eBay? 3) Since I was ordering from another state, would I be paying sales tax? The response I received didn't answer any of the questions. It just said they had the chainsaw with the shorter bar. So I wrote again to the email address listed on their website and I received a reply from Jay Vanevenhoven who I believe is either the owner or the manager of the store since his picture is on their website's home page. He informed me that they didn't have the chainsaw with the longer bar. Despite that, I was about to order it with the shorter bar when I decided to read the entire eBay listing. The problem was that three detailed item description sections in the eBay listing said it was a much smaller model chainsaw of much lower value. I figured whoever made the eBay ad simply goofed but I had to ask. So I emailed Jay again to make sure that I would be ordering the correct chainsaw. What I received was a short, blunt response in all caps. Here's a cut & paste of his response: "IT IS WHAT THE TITLE SAYS IT IS" But most of the detailed description said it was a different, much smaller chainsaw so my question was an obvious one. Now, maybe Jay simply isn't aware that typing in all caps is the internet equivalent of shouting and considered poor etiquette but I suspect that he was just irritated that I asked a perfectly legitimate question. I responded by saying that if he was buying something but the details of the item described a completely different item, I would guess that he would ask for a confirmation that he was buying what he thought he was buying. But apparently that made Jay angry. Now I had to decide if I would buy an expensive product from a company whose boss gets mad when you ask a him a very simple question. On top of that, one of his employees is apparently illiterate and should either learn English or NOT respond to customers in writing and another employee can't answer three simple questions all of which could have been answered in a single sentence. I don't think so. This experience was NOT a good example of customer service to put it mildly.

Eventually I brought it back in there to get the problem fixed that they created and they charged me $48! I brought in a perfectly functioning snowblower and it was returned to me in worse condition. No apologies. No efforts to bring down the price or give store credit.
