It really depends on what you're looking for. Place is old. The Furniture's old but it's clean. Blackout curtains don't really blackout they have damage so there's light peeking through. Bathtub is not usable as a bathtub. Shower has great pressure and removable showerhead. There's a stove, a sink, apartment size refrigerator and a dorm size refrigerator. There's lots of cabinets, but no dishes or utensils. If you bring your own stuff and wanna turn this into an apartment for a week it would work. I believe the couch is also a hide a couch, but I'm not positive. The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were king size hard lumps. Bring your own pillows or do like we didn't go to Walmart and buy eight dollars worth of pillows. additionally there's very little space to hang towels. There are also no hangers in the closet. Do you wanna hang things up bring your own hangers. We haven't tried the breakfast but it's very basic toaster waffles muffins are boiled eggs, basic continental breakfast. read more

The lobby was clean and orderly. Jesus, checked us in. He was friendly and professional. Our room was clean and inviting. The bathroom sink faucet handle came off when I tried to turn the water on. We informed the front desk in the morning. The clerk said they would have it fixed. When we came back to the room that night, it was still broken. The event center was clean and orderly. We were served a veggie platter mid morning. The veggies were fresh. We had lasagna, salad and a delicious dessert. The entire weekend was enjoyable. We were there for a scrapbooking event. The Plaza Hotel is apparently the largest Hotel in Carson City. That begs a question of where I would recommend that people stay while they're in the Carson Valley. However, this review is for the Convention Center part only. I was here for a Shabbat service sponsored by Temple Bat Yam (South Lake Tahoe) as part of their Carson Valley programming efforts. It was a very nice event, and it was great to meet the Rabbi and fellow Jewish travelers. The facilities were adequate, albeit a bit tired. As I'm sure I'll be back for another event of some kind, I least I know how to find the Convention Center. read more

I chose Carson City Plaza Hotel mainly because they advertised breakfast included, but what I got was far from a real breakfast. On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, they only offered orange juice and milk--no eggs, no meat, nothing substantial. When I asked about it, the staff told me that due to a busy weekend, they ran out of breakfast items. That's simply unacceptable, especially on a Tuesday, and not the guest's fault. When I politely asked why they didn't have a proper breakfast, I was told I'm not allowed to question it. During checkout, I asked to speak with the manager, and his response shocked me even more--he said he was aware of my complaint and if I wrote a review anywhere, he would be the one responsible for deleting it. That left a very bad impression. Not recommended at all. There are plenty of other places to stay in Carson City that respect their guests and follow through on what they advertise. read more

Check in was fairly long but understandable. The room was outdated as expected but as clean as it could be. If outside in the parking lot people would ask for money. Breakfast was decent. Saturday morning there was no eggs, but Sunday there was. The lady stocking the breakfast was hustling and very nice. There is 2 saloons next to the hotel one on each side. The saloon that was close to our room seemed to be bust Saturday night. We would hear the commotion the majority of the night. We stayed on the second floor, however the locking mechanism on the windows didn't work. read more

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel and I like it overall. Staff is warm and welcoming, hotel and rooms are clean and hygienic. Few things were off this time compared to my visit last year: 1. Their mattresses needs to change. They have spring mattresses and it was hurting my back while sleeping. we had booked 2 rooms and both families felt the same. 2. Let me start off with the one and only positive thing. The room was very large and spacious enough for our bikes. From the moment we checked in and until the following day we left was not very welcoming. We got yelled at by someone at the hotel which felt more like a motel/apartment residence for backing our car into the parking space. Apparently it's "against policy" to do so which is something I've never heard of. We had to unload our bikes and all our equipment so not sure why it was such an issue. There are people that sit outside in lawn chairs all night long right outside the rooms and we were afraid our Jeep was going to get stolen or vandalized. Especially after getting hassled. Looks like people also reside at this "hotel". The next day we went to the free breakfast but there was nothing there that seemed very inviting. A couple cereal dispensers. Pre-made waffles in a container. Juice and coffee dispensers. Dry oatmeal generic packets. Yoplait yogurts, some home made banana nut muffins that we ate only because I had to take some Motrin. Final straw was when I stopped by the front desk to ask for extra towels and the lady behind the desk asked if my boyfriend had the same last name as me and that he wasn't on my hotel reservation. Never had anyone asked me that before when I've stayed at a hotel. We were taken back. Whenever I book a hotel it automatically defaults and puts in 2 adults unless you change it. I don't even recall them asking for the others guests name. I was just shocked she asked who he was and if he had the same last name as me. COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE AND UNCALLED FOR. I stayed here over the big snow storm December 31, 2022. We were trying to get home via I-80, but the roads were too dangerous to stay on. When we arrived, the power was out at the hotel, which they couldn't help obviously. They were using a paper register to assign rooms, and they gave us what I realized later was a master key to open any room. When we got to the first room, they gave us, there was someone inside. They had assigned the same room twice. I was outraged, as that could've been my room that someone just barged into. We went back downstairs, and after I told them what had happened, and that it was unacceptable, they assigned us another room, and I had them go with me in case it happened again. We have gone to a different hotel, except many places were fully booked because people had to stay in Carson City because of the snow, and we just had to get off of the road. As we were walking to the second room, we passed cleaning supplies left on the stairs by staff. When we got to the second room, thankfully, this one did not have anyone already in it. We secured the door and took a look around. One of the cabinets in the kitchen was hanging off of the wall. We had just come from camping, so we were anxious to shower and charge our phones so we tried to make the most of it. When we started the shower, the pipes started screaming. The toiletries were a random mix. I was just very underwhelmed with this whole thing. Again, we were desperate to get off the roads and to get warm, but I would not recommend anyone ever stay here. The electricity came on pretty soon after we arrived, and that was enough to get us to stay. I should have asked for a partial refund, but I just wanted to get out of there. I took pictures and a video, but I deleted them in the past year, but I wish I had them to show just how pretty gross this whole place was. Stayed here as part of package with vegas pbs group. Unfortunately we could see upon checking in that this property was not maintained well and hadn't been updated in some time. The furniture in our room was something out of my 1980s dorm room. The bed was tremendously uncomfortable and I'm sure I will need a chiropractor tomorrow after one nights stay. My kids had a soccer tournament and we booked a room for two nights. When you pay $99-120 dollars a night, I wasn't expecting a 4 star experience. I have stayed in many similar type motels and we had a really positive experience here. Other soccer parents stayed at another hotel and they paid more and complained about the smoke. They wish they booked at our hotel. When you pull up to the hotel, it does looks old and small. I expected the hotel to be small, dirty, and probably lacking a front desk agent since we checked in at 8:00pm. The front desk staff were very friendly. Throughout our stay we had problems with our key. We had to get a new key a few times. Yes, it was a little bit of a hassle but the front desk staff were always sympathetic, helpful and friendly. One worker who saw me on the security camera have trouble with the key came to help. The rooms were out dated but they were spacious and clean. Room came with a mini fridge. The breakfast was free. We didn't expect eggs benedict. They had coffee, juice, bagels, waffles, yogurt, and muffins. They had a worker overseeing the breakfast. She was cleaning and staying on top of the food and refilling the coffee. Served food in a separate room. I don't now what else you can expect paying reasonable prices in Carson City. Central location, great service, clean room, and free breakfast. The hotel tries its best to give their guests a comfortable stay. If we come to another tournament, we will book here. read more

The rooms are nice and the staff is super nice and helpful and they have breakfast for all the guests that are staying in the hotel. The hotel is very clean and nice. I highly recommend this place for everyone and also the toilets take a few minutes to flush you have to hold the handle down for a few minutes before it will flush but other then that this hotel is super nice and they also do events here for weddings and extra if needed. My husband and I will for sure be coming back to this hotel and the prices are very reasonable as well. read more

The room was clean and adequate. The beds were hard and uncomfortable and only had 2 pillows each, which would be fine if only one person were in each bed since most people sleep with one under their head and one between their legs. I suggest adding a thick mattress topper and an additional two pillows to equal 4 pillows per bed. The sheets and blankets were nice and clean. There is a fridge and microwave in each room which is very nice. The wireless internet works rather well considering other hotels crappy WiFi and it's included. The included breakfast was edible. Frozen eggo waffles, pastries, coffee, cereal, milk, and orange juice. Unfortunately, the toasters didn't work very well and after waiting a few minutes my waffles were still cold and untoasted, soggy even. But hey it's free. We heard one of the guys working there telling another guest that the had to make an run to Costco because their regular waffles/mix ran out or something, but I can't speak to that because I didn't experience any other type of waffles. There isn't a lot of parking up front but there is parking in back but it fills up fast. The reason for only 3 stars, I don't like liars and even more so don't like being unjustly called a liar. We were looking for a decent priced hotel for one night because the hotel we had reservations for didn't have any vacancy and we were going to be in a area a night earlier than expected. My husband and I were calling hotels and were using speaker phone so we could both hear prices, amenities, etc and could make a decision together. The gal on the phone, who actually works at the front desk, told us several times that they had an indoor pool and jacuzzi. This was one of the main reasons we booked with this hotel and was completely false. To top it off when we inquired about it when we got there she (same gal) proceeded to tell us that she would never say that and insisted that she would never say they had those amenities when both my husband and I heard her. On a side note, Saffron is a really great local restaurant about a mile away from the hotel. I highly recommend it. read more

I will let you make your own conclusions based off the information I've provided. When I spoke with the general manager Launa, she refused to help me and hung up on me twice. I was pleased to stay here when my path brought me to Carson City on a recent weekend. The room was clean, rather spacious, and quiet...perfect! The in-room refrigerator worked. There was a little wet bar sink on the counter with the refrigerator...a nice touch. There was a small writing desk and a chair, plus television and a remote. The hotel is located within easy walking distance of several good restaurants, so once you're parked, you can walk distances like 500 feet or 0.2 miles to find excellent food. There's a gas station across the street. The hotel is located very conveniently in town. read more

Location, location, location! That's the top reason to stay at the Plaza Hotel. If one's going to Carson City for the #1 reason why Carson City still exists, one should consider this hotel/motel solely for the short walk to the Nevada Legislature. The accommodations are adequate here. The rooms are spacious & clean, even if the bathrooms evoke "1992 Best Western Realness". And I found it odd that the standard room I started out in had a 32" LCD TV, yet the "Queen Deluxe" room/junior suite I eventually moved over to had a 1990s era ~20" "boob tube". Still, the front desk staff were helpful and the continental breakfast was filling. And again, the location is everything. So if I need a hotel in Carson City again, I might just have to book here again. I just hope ALL the rooms & suites will eventually receive the "face lifts" they deserve. read more

We had booked an ironically labeled "Deluxe Queen" room here. The staff was nice and helpful, and the management was nice enough to fully refund our money. We demanded a refund because the room was a filthy toilet. I mean a serious flop house style dive. Stains on the carpet, stains on the old, long-out of style filth-encrusted furniture. Oh and in addition to the filth and stains it reeked of mold and stale gym socks. I have no idea what the rest of the rooms are like, but they did not offer us a different room so it is likely most of them are disgusting and not suitable for human use. Sleeping in years of accumulated scum would be okay if it were $35 per night, and your primary goal were cost savings, but otherwise this place is highly overpriced. read more

Ok, yes it is true that the free continental breakfast isn't bad and the rates tend to be friendly, especially as part of a large group for a soccer tournament. However, if you read the other reviews carefully you will notice the same complaints I have here, that makes me echo the refrain "never stay here again". I can't say why the ratings were so positive even with complaints. First, the room was clearly cleaned because it reeked of cleaner smell but it didn't feel clean. I've never felt uneasy about picking up the TV remote but I didn't even want to touch the one that was meant to control the nearly 20 year old tiny Zenith. There were scary looking things on the floor that we were unable to identify without a CSI team (it looked organic but might have been stuffing from the mattress..see below). Sure, I didn't come here to watch TV. I did come here to get a reasonable night of sleep. As I lay down to test out the bed, the years since my last stay vanished and I remembered the absolute worse part of this place - the mattresses! It is a very hard mattress that feels like it's filled with marbles. I'm not exaggerating. The headboard (bolted to the wall) was partially detached and squeaked at even the slightest movement (yeah, the SLIGHTEST movement). There was no real mattress cover, just a blanket type thing, under the paper thin sheets. The pillows were brick-like and my neck hurts just thinking of them now. One of the beds had box spring supports that stuck out into the space between the two beds, which made the perfect shin scraping booby trap. Look, I could live with the old and semi-clean state of the rooms if they spent a little money replacing mattresses, upgrading bed frames and providing nice sheets. As another reviewer pointed out, this is a motel and not a hotel but I'm paying money for a bed. Fix the bed situation and I'd go with a 3 or 4 star rating. Given my aching neck and back, I will remember next soccer tournament NOT to stay here again. As others noted, there are some upsides: The staff is friendly. We love this place, the rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel staff are Superb, they are so nice and friendly. They have Free WIFI, complimentary breakfast with hot buttery waffles, hard boiled eggs, Toast, English Muffins, Yogurt, Hot & Cold Cereal it was a regular smorgashboard, delicious. The breakfast hostess was amazingly wonderful. We loved the location of the Hotel so close to restaurants and only a block from the State Capital Building, and Museums. "I'm never staying there again" he told me. Six months ago. and then he booked it. For countless years, The Plaza Hotel-Motel has hosted loads of events, including endurance races on the Tahoe Rim Trail. They are kind enough to even provide the continental breakfast (free) starting at 2:00 AM race morning! While the race was most certainly all uphill after that, the hotel went downhill. The Plaza? Who came up with this? So deceiving. There is no "plaza" at the hotel and it gives a false sense of class. It's more like an outdated hotel upfront with a motel in back. The mullet of hospitality? Anyway, we snagged a two-room "suite" of sorts so we'd have plenty of space - (pull-out couch, sitting area and half-kitchen). We did. And for something like 80 bucks a night, it was a pretty big bang-for-the-buck on square footage. Everything was fully functional (TV, refrigerator, bathroom), including the AC, which you can't survive without in Carson City. But, man, this place needs a steam cleaning. While, the bathroom and bedroom looked quite clean, the carpets and couch looked kinda gnarly. Yea, I said gnarly. I didn't even want to sit on the couch. A lack of towel hooks was annoying, but only a minor inconvenience. On the plus side: they have a vending machine where I treated myself to some peanut M&Ms for a measly $0.60. Cheapest vending machine I've seen in 10 years! Staff really are incredibly friendly and helpful and I commend them, but the rooms need work. Continental breakfast is basic at best, but I have no qualms. It's enough to get you started for the day. As we walked out on the second morning into the blazing high-desert sunshine, he turns to me... "never staying here again". At least, I can hold him to it come next year's race now that I've done my time here. In all honestly, though, if you just need a bed to crash (pre-race), it totally gets the job done and that's really all we planned on. Any expectations higher than that and you should consider one of the (chain) hotels down the road. read more

This hotel has it's ups and downs. And it's not really a hotel. It's a motel. There's no room service, no free newspaper. It's a motel. On the up side: The entire place is non-smoking, rare in Nevada. The room we had was plenty big, and had a small refrigerator and microwave. (which is good since most of the restaurants in Carson City are not great) They have plenty of cable channels on the (small) tv and free Wi-Fi in the rooms. There is a free continental breakfast, it's not opulent but it's sufficient. The location of the Plaza is great, centrally located. You can walk to several local attractions, museums, etc. It's clean. The parking lot was fairly large. On the down side: The walls are paper thin. During my stay, the motel hosted a college baseball team who were extremely noisy. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. The towels are also thin, and rough. I swear I nearly cut myself on one of them. They give you very few towels, you may want to ask for more in the lobby. The beds are not good. Mine had a huge hump in the middle. My stay (I am actually still here) was in early April, and the blankets were very thin considering lows in the teens at night. The free Wi-Fi is fine, but the only place to plug in your lap top is underneath a table. You either have to move the table or get on your hands and knees to plug in your lap top. WTF? Worst of all, the stench of sewer gas in the bathroom. My partner and I were a bit concerned about each other at first. "Is that smell coming from you?" Then we realized it was sewer gas rising up from the toilet. Very gross. Bottom line, I don't think I would stay here again. read more

This place was a filthy place. We came to stay at the same place that we did 5 years ago when it was decent but it is not so nice now. Actually I would have preferred sleeping in a tent than this filthy dirty place. Carpets were very stained. We did not even take our shoes off. The pull out bed was heavily soiled and have dog food laying all over the dirty mattress. It was suppose to be non smoking but smelled like stale cigarettes. Our room did not even get cleaned and I asked for it to be cleaned and they said the staff had already gone home for the day. So we got a trash bag full of clean towels to take to our room. The building is seriously in need of maintenance. The breakfast was not much better than vending machine food. There were ants crawling all over our table. I said something to the server and she said that they spray the building. This place is extremely overpriced for what you get. When we went home we were itching and decided to leave our luggage in the garage and wash all of our clothes and shoes. Then we disinfected our luggage. Will never return here ever again! Stayed here for a soccer tournament... never again. Our room was filthy. Absolutely disgusting. Had another hotel had open rooms, I would have just left and got a decent space for my child and myself. The heater/AC unit has on and off. So if it's cold at night, you turn on the heater. Well, if you fall asleep, you will wake up at 3 AM thinking you have a fever because you've sweated through the sheets. Speaking of sheets, ugh. The blanket over the sheet is as thin as a piece of paper and who is going let the comforter stay on the bed? And believe me, I searched for signs of bed bugs because it was so bad. The bathroom was wretched. Filth and grime. The door all along the inside around the handle and that part of the door was coated in grime. Couldn't use the towel rack because it was broken and hastily caulked back together. There was ground in dirt around the toilet and the linoleum was coming off the kick boards in the bathroom. The carpets were so dirty, that even wearing clean socks in the room, the bottom of the socks were brown. This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Not to mention the unsavory neighbors that we saw "hanging out" on the side road by the parking lot. Breakfast was a joke. Cold cereal with only 2% milk in a big old jug hanging out with individually wrapped old bagels and such. They had waffles but how dare you think you're going to make yourself a hot one. OH NO. They direct you to the cold chaffing dish of picked over waffle quarters. My daughter tried to take two and she was told no, if she wanted more, she could come get another one. It's a QUARTER OF A WAFFLE. Who only eats a quarter of a waffle. So I marched up and took three. The Waffle Gestapo wanted to say something but knew I was unhappy so he just let me take them. She ate all 4 by the way. No, just no. So bad. Do yourself a favor and stay someplace clean and decent. read more

I don't mean to be snobby, but had I known what this place was like before I booked a room, I'd have gone elsewhere. HOWEVER, the front desk people and the ease of location just made this place workable. We got the bridal suite because it was only $129 a night. Why not? Jacuzzi in the bedroom...next to the bed. Two TVs in the bridal suite and they are not flat screen but good old heavy as hell tube televisions! Good thing quakes don't rock Carson City because if they did...those tvs would be gone in a second. Bed, though lumpy, was infinitely more comfortable than the hotel I stayed at two weeks ago that claimed it was an "upscale boutique style hotel". I'll get to that review after this one! Little kitchenette and 2 fridges graced this suite - and I was eternally grateful for them. Odd housekeeping quirk - they took the shower curtain one day and didn't return it. Had to shower without it...subsequently having water spill out of the tub and cover the toilet and floors despite my best efforts to not do so. Couch and chair in the living room area was decent and clean. Purple carpet was a bit odd, though. I got the feeling it was new. Bedroom door that separated the bedroom from the living room couldn't close because of the bed blocking it. Wifi was slow but it's not like I was downloading porn or even thinking about it. I did have issues with the bedding and it took me a while each night to settle into it. It's probably me, but it had that scary old blanket that was clearly from the late 70s/early 80s that went with the same bedspread from that exact era. ...Must stop thinking of that... Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it certainly wasn't the best. I'd come back if I brought my own bedding and could leave it behind. read more

I was definitely happy with my stay here It was crazy inexpensive, had a mini fridge and a microwave, plus a few random things like toothpaste and hair gel in the bathroom. It is a little outdated, but was extremely clean, has free WiFi, a huge continental breakfast, fresh coffee in the lobby at all times, is close to everything and $50 a night. The service was super friendly, check in took about 30 seconds, Matt (the guy who checked me in) was super friendly and offered some great suggestions on local places to go.I had no issues at all with my stay. Charged me twice for my deposit. Also two days after I left charged me two separate $75 fees without notifying me. When I called them on it they claimed I had a dog in my room which was totally not true! Then they claimed they had video evidence but when I asked to see it of course he could do that. read more

I've never stayed at the Plaza Hotel, but every year they host and cater my work's holiday party, so that's what this review is for. Every year, the food is pretty much the same - green salad with a few choices of dressing, a pasta salad, mashed potatoes, rice, vegetarian lasagna, chicken cordon bleu, tri-tip with jus and horseradish, roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, and rolls. It's a lot of food and I commend anyone that can eat all of it! To top it all off, there are several choices of pie for dessert. I feel like this year the food was an improvement over years past; in those years past, some of the items were a little bland. But this year, the pasta salad had a ton of flavor (but maybe a tad overdressed), the lasagna was really flavorful and had nice big chunks of vegetables, and the potatoes had the right amount of salt. The tri-tip was a little overcooked and I wished the rolls were warmer and the butter for them softer (trying to spread cold butter is an impossible task). I skipped the chicken and the turkey this year. I also skipped dessert because I'm not a pie fan. They set up the room differently this year - in the past, the line for the food was right in front of the drink station making it a little bit of a cluster f***. But this year they were on separate sides of the room. Decorations were stepped up a notch this year too. Now if only they could get their PA system working more consistently - it cuts out pretty frequently when people are giving speeches. The staff was especially attentive this year. I really felt like along with improvements to the food, they are stepping up service too and just trying to make the whole experience better. I hope they continue along this path and maybe next year I'll bump them up to 4 stars. read more

The bed was comfortable. The room clean. The continental breakfast lacked any meat or protein. Nothing but carbohydrates. Not good considering the price for a room. How do you even serve breakfast without bacon or sausage?? Cmon people get your act together. Will not stay there ever again. read more

I rather enjoy this hotel. Sure, it's a bit outdated and you have to walk a whole two minutes to get to the pool, but the friendliness of the staff and the convenience of the hotel more than make up for any real or imagined inconveniences. I have stayed here several times, and I'm sure I'll stay again. When we checked in, the front desk lady asked if we needed Internet service. When we said yes, she told us our assigned room was having difficulties and that if it was ok with us, she' d upgrade our room at no extra cost. Well, sure! So, we got a suite with a sitting area - a nice treat for our 4 day stay. Although the decor leaves something to be desired, someone has painstakingly painted leafy trees throughout the hallways and rooms. It gives the hotel a homey feel and it makes me feel like even though it's not a luxurious place, the owners really do care. Plus, for $45 a night I don't really expect The Palms or The Venetian. The air-conditioning units have been modified by Nevada Power, so they turn off when you are not in the room. However, the rooms cool quickly and the windows actually open. The continental breakfast is small, but the food is more than just icky donuts or gross Nevada casino food. Cereals, yogurt, English muffins, coffee, tea, and juice are the standard fare. If they added some fresh fruit it would be perfect.. The hotel is also very clean and within walking distance of the State Museum, court house, and State Library and Archives. The 395 Grill is also right behind the hotel and it has unique decor, tons of beer, and plenty of good food. Reno, Tahoe, or Virginia City are all less than an hour away. It might be useful to add that this hotel is a favorite among people returning from Burning Man in early September. You may experience difficulties finding a room. read more

I couldn't believe how cheap rooms were there. Mine would have worked out at $55 a night or so if I had not booked an airfare/hotel package ($606.00). My room had central heating, two king beds (actually the cheapest available), free wi-fi and a large desk, TV and DVD. It was so hot when I first arrived, that I turned the central heating down. They do not have lunch or dinning services, but a complimentary breakfast and coffee bar. I used Red bucks vouchers for some of my meals out, but mostly didn't need them. They are the only hotel so I am told that offers direct shuttle service to and from the airport, that is from Carson City. Take fares one way can cost between $$55-65 and you have to order a taxi from the hotel otherwise Though services were not luxury I would rate them as very good value for money. There is car park round the back near their conference center, so plenty of room for parking and you are almost opposite the Carson City Station Casino. Well worth it if you are on a budget, as I was. And very nice staff. read more

This hotel is a little bit older but recent updates have been made and it's quite nice. The downtown location was great. By far the best price in Carson City but with customer service matching a 5 star resort. Janet was amazing and helped book a block of rooms for our soccer team. Definitely will be staying here again for the next tournament. read more
