Genoa is a very charming and pretty town and very different than the nearby Carson City sprawl. Gayle has family here and I love coming up for a few days, especially in winter and during Candy Dance or the Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival. And from the Deck, the expansive view of the Carson Valley is stunning and soothing. Every time I come up, there's the latest talk about folks trying to make Genoa a "Destination". The area certainly seems to do nice Wedding business, and I particularly enjoy hanging out at the Genoa Bar. There are also a few nice places to eat such as La Ferme. Past that, it's my sense that this particular marketing plan isn't working as well as it should. David Walley's Resort recently went through a management change during an interesting "quiet" period and the relatively recent "Genoa Square" development is only left with the Dancing Deer and a reopened Genoa Country Inn. The Genoa Coffee & Candy Company was the latest closure, with the rumour that the landlord forced them out due to complaints of coffee odors (?) wafting through the hotel rooms. Oy. The Genoa Country Inn has 11 rooms and is a nice place with wi-fi and the usual other amenities (including view). It's an easy walk to anywhere within the Genoa Town Site, and if you just want peace and quiet, this place may be a good choice for you. However, if you want a little "excitement", South Lake Tahoe is a winding drive over the Kingsbury Grade, and greater Carson City or the "Twin Cities" of Minden and Gardnerville are all easy rides. Just watch the occasional speed trap on Jacks Valley Road. read more

It was late at night and after regular check-in hours by the time we arrived on Friday evening, but our room key was safely tucked away in a box and ready for us, and our room was easy to find. My husband and I were surprised at the size of the room when we walked in; it was huge! There's a large bathroom area, and tons of room around the bed and by the mini fridge and coffee station. There's also a nice table and chairs, a modest TV, and a terrific balcony with an outstanding view. Our bathroom, as well as the bedroom (and everything else), was very clean. Everything works great in the room also, and we had no complaints, except maybe that the bed was a little uncomfortable. My husband had trouble sleeping but I can sleep on pretty much anything pretty happily. I'll be sad when 11 o'clock rolls around and we check out. This Inn is conveniently located in the center of a town and area that I would like to spend a little more time day-exploring. Looks like an excellent reason to come back! read more

In the category of "quaint little inns, located in rural Nevada with populations less than 300," the Genoa Country Inn is an absolute 5 on Yelp. We were kicking off a historical road trip of spots in Nevada and our start point was Genoa (specifically wanting to hit the states oldest bar...the Genoa Bar!). We needed three rooms and the Genoa Country Inn could accomodate us. We were kind of unexpectedly overwhelmed by what we found at this inn. The reservation was easy to make over an e-mail with a follow up phone call to give a credit card to guarantee. The owners Nick and Aaron were helpful and friendly in setting things up. Clearly remodeled in the last few years after being a foot print in the history of Genoa, the rooms were lovely. From the extra sink at the wet bar, to the relatively large bathrooms and the quilt like sheet on the bed that was so warm and comfortable during our winter month stay, we took notice of all the details of the room. A microwave, a coffee maker and a high top table all mixed amongst the clean (REALLY SUPER TO BE HONEST!), comfortable and cute room. We were not expecting this in Genoa (no offense). You park your car in the back, check in and walk to your room on one of two floors, with doors exposed to the outside to a courtyard type area. There is no restaurant and there is no breakfast. This is just an inn. You can literally walk from the Genoa Bar to your hotel room at the inn, which is a bonus to the overserved! This is not the Ritz, nor is this a bed and breakfast in Malibu. But the Genoa Country Inn has done a wonderful job in providing a cute, welcoming and hospitable experience to its travelers. If you are in the area and need a room, do not hesitate to stay at the Genoa Country Inn. read more

Hotel is older style but charming, very quaint. Pros: The room was updated and had granite counter tops, refrigerator, coffee pot, nice furnishings, gorgeous views, private, and relaxing. Cons: Shared balcony, Ice machine was in the water heater room. No Bath tub. Nobody was around town. We were the only occupants in the hotel at the time. There is a nice park across the street. A country store is located in the hotel below the rooms. There is one historical bar a little ways down the road which had two people in it. The town is very small; nearest gas station is 10 minutes away in Minden. (We didn't plan on staying here....long story how we ended up here) read more

Comfy, cozy, & clean. That sums this hotel and room #208 well. From the moment we arrived to the second we departed, the staff were very friendly. The accommodations were simple and enough. Spacious and elegant, the room needed nothing more - except a stove. But, was not we really needed one anyway. There was a nicely decorated Italian cafe below the hotel that served desserts, coffee, unmade pasta, and other Italian goods. Be aware, the shower had no curtain. Just turn up the heater and you will be fine. Couldn't have asked for more - except maybe a complimentary desert. But I just love sweets. Highly recommended. read more

We stayed here on a Saturday night over Memorial Day weekend. It was Saturday and the town of Genoa was really busy with six, yes... SIX weddings going on that night. At the last minute, three days before the weekend to be exact, we called and reserved a room at this place. It was $130 (including all taxes and fees) and yes that seems pricey, but at the last minute in a tourist town it is to be expected over a holiday weekend. Genoa Country Inn is right in the center of the town. It is cozy and clean. The lobby was nicely decorated and the front desk clerk was friendly and fast. We got our room key and headed upstairs. I wasn't sure what to expect because the place is pretty old but wow...the room was amazing. Large room with lots of amenities. It had a small fridge, a nice big bed, a couch and comfy sitting area, updated bathroom, warm and comfy decor with a very comfortable bed set, a balcony (shared, but thats ok), there is a common area down the hall with all sorts of stuff that you may need (wine opener, wine glasses etc). Overall this place goes above and beyond what most places will do to make sure your stay is the best. For a comparison of small town motels close to Reno, my friend and I stayed in an older but very nice motel in Virginia City at the last minute. We paid almost $200 for the room. ZERO amenities, zero people in the front office, zero anything. We did get a breakfast the next morning but it was nowhere near being worth almost $200. I highly recommend this small, cozy stay in Genoa. read more

We would highly recommend this Inn. It is in a very historical and quaint community. Check in was very easy and we were pleasantly surprized with the size and quality of our room. It also had a little balcony to seat and view the town. It is not a bed and breakfast but there are enoungh nice restaurants to choose from. Stayed here during Easter weekend and had a lovely time. The Inn is located on the main drag, a short walking distance to the Genoa bar and Pink House. We got a room with a balcony over looking Mormon Station Park. If you wake up early enough, you will see the deer grazing around the park. Our room was comfortable and quite adorable! With modern amenities such as tv, microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker. The staff were very friendly and gave great tips on a hiking spot close to the hotel. Would definitely visit Genoa Country Inn on our next trip! read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE. My friend had a timeshare reservation and apparently that company works with this Inn to book rooms. When we arrived, the check in lobby was closed, and our room key was left outside. There were NO lights on in the entire exterior of the building, and we had to navigate our way up a flight of unlit, icy and slippery stairs, to find our room in the dark When we got inside, instead of the confirmed room with 2 queen beds, we were given a room with 1 queen. We called the after hours line to fix the issue, and instead of any courtesy or help, I received a rude, "it's 3am!". Yes sir, I know it's 3am. We had been fighting traffic, in the snow, for the past 7 hours to get there since the road to the city was closed due to a sink hole. Did you THINK we were doing this for our pleasure? The man on the phone, I presume Nick who owns the place, continues to rant about how he does not have any double queens available and that we would have to get out...that night...at 3:30am...in 20 degree weather. While looking for another place to stay, Nick called back to confirm that we had left his property. Seriously, he took the effort to stay up 30 minutes to call back and kick us out. Not only that, but my friends that stayed told me that he woke them up, banging on the door at 7am to confirm that we had left! Nick did not try to fix the situation, but instead, kicked out people at 4am, in the cold, with nowhere to go. I would never treat another person like that, much less a patron. Even without the rude factor, this place lacked the charming touches I would expect at an inn. For example, the heater was not on so the room was COLD when we got there. The staircase was icy and dangerous to go up. If I thought it was icy, imagine older folks trying to get up there at night. read more

I recently spent a week at this hotel, let me tell you, it was well worth the stay! If you know anything about Genoa, you know how nice and small the area is and really this is your best spot to stay. This hotel is smack in the middle of town! What that means to you, a walk to all the great location in town, hell it is not big but why drive in to town when you can stay right in the middle. To me, it makes enjoying and exploring the local town a breeze. This hotel has been recently updated! It sports new furnishings, new bathrooms, beds, TV's, and the whole place is super modern. We personally stayed in their "Mini Suite" and it was great. Roomy without being overly crazy. The rooms had microwave, small refrigerator, couch, dinning table, queen size bed. Good sized bathrooms. Very very clean, looked as if it was renovated yesterday, Maid service was awesome, they took their times cleaning each and every room. Some minor downsides: You are located in the heart of Genoa, so be ready for a lot of foot traffic and noise. It's nothing to insane as each this hotel sports dual pane windows which will easily block out the street noise. This is a small hotel, I think only 11 rooms, so it feels up quickly! Especially on holidays and or major town events. Keep that in mind when booking in advance. Wifi is spotty but to be expected since you are in a rural area! Overall: BOOK IT! You'll love your modern, clean, and spacious room! Super friendly staff, and awesome location. read more

I stayed here twice in 2012. The first time was for my wedding and the second time for New Year's Eve. The owners are a pleasure to work with. Both so kind and accommodating. I already love this place, and am glad that I get to stay a few more days. It's a charming hotel. The rooms are large, bright and CLEAN. They smell clean. Everything is spotless. The bed is wonderful, good pillows, spotless linens. It has a balcony, and a couple of folding chairs that you are welcome to use there. The front windows look out on the historic Main Street, where many pioneers walked, carrying their possessions. The door opens out to a view of the foothills, currently covered in snow. The big, soft leather chair is perfect for reading. Downstairs is a coffee shop, cute as can be. Free FAST WiFi. And it's so quiet! The owner is very friendly and welcoming. I had the chance of staying at Genoa Country Inn, June 29, 2014 through July 2, 2014. It was the best experience that I have had in a long time while staying out of town. One of the managers, (Niki) met my every need. As being a disabled person and unable to do many things on my own. He was kind and considerate from the first day I arrived. The first day without hesitation, he carried my lugage to my room for me. In addition, since the Ice machine was on the second floor, he said when ever you need ice let me know and I will get it for you. Well, yes of course I tested that, since most people say that and not do the task. Well, I can honestly say, that this gentleman, walked upstairs to get me ice not just o the first day, but the second day and even the third day. With out hesitation, he met my needs. I also, understand, he cleans the rooms and I wanted to let you know that he is there to take care of the customers and make sure they have a very warm friendly family oriented stay. My room was always clean with fresh towels and Ice. In addition to answering all my questions, I want to say that this is one of the most friendly places to stay. Along with being clean awesome in country eloquent decor. And ADA friendly their one ADA room was, very accommodation to met my needs, with a cushioned chair in the shower a ramp outside, a slight incline ramp into the shower, handicap bars all around the shower and in the restroom. With a large wheelchair accessible bathroom, shower and bed room. A refrigerator and microwave, with a beautiful ambiance, of country living. In addition, excellent room rates. Thank you for being so friendly and offering such a lovely peace of the country for me to stay in. read more

We have stayed at this inn three times in 10 years and its just as clean and inviting as it was 10 years ago. The staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are extremely clean. Its decor is modern and updated and doesn't feel dated in the least. We've stayed at dozens of hotels in our past and this one really holds its own. We spent two nights at this lovely place. The owner is very friendly. The lobby is comfy and the rooms are spacious. Our room had a balcony overlooking the town square. The rooms are newly remodeled. Very clean. The beds are comfortable. The room had a fridge and sink and microwave. The hotel is very quiet. It is small (not many rooms), but Genoa is small. You can walk to everything. But if you want more it is very close to bigger towns with more. I loved watching the stars from the balcony. If you are looking for peace and quiet relaxation this is a great place. read more

Really loved this place. Nick the owner is so nice. The place is up to date, clean and the Inn is so picturesque, when we arrived there was a herd of deer grazing across the street. Our room was so large we had a high top table with 4 chairs and two giant rocker recliners! Plus we had a balcony with two chairs in the closet if we wanted to sit out there. We loved too that Nick had a store room where we could go and help ourselves to more coffee packets, soaps, whatever we needed. The Genoa Bar, small market and a restaurant are a short walk away. Make sure to visit the Genoa Bar, it's great fun, apparently the oldest bar in Nevada. read more

My husband and I recently stayed here when we went to Walley's Hot Springs. I'm so glad that we stayed here instead of Walley's timeshare. The gentleman who checked us in was so friendly & helpful. My daughter recently was married in Genoa. The two families rented the entire inn for the weekend. The owners/managers were great. The inn itself is one of the nicest and cleanest small town inns I have ever booked. The rooms are over-sized with wonderful decor and comfortable mattresses. All rooms have a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. The "ice room" is complete with a full size community refrigerator and everything you might need; wine openers, real wine glasses, paper plates & plastic-ware, blow dryers, curling irons, irons, extra coffee and filters, just to name a few. All on a borrow and return (unless disposable) basis. There is a lovely area out front adjacent to a wonderful Italian bakery for sitting and sipping coffee or cocktails. Most of the inns room are on the second floor with day time businesses below. This makes the rooms incredibly quiet. The balconies are lovely as well.
