I didn't even know this store was here but had been searching the island for a particular "cream" colored remnant. Frank the sales representative was very cordial and friendly and did his best to help me find what I was searching for. The bolts they had on site did not exactly match my swatch and the one that came very close was priced higher then I expected to pay. Enter one of the Porcelli owners (the good looking one as he described himself :-). Well all I can say is he sharpened his pencil and made it work. I left the store extremely happy that my search had finally ended and I was treated so well by all the sales staff who came thru while I was waitiing. So....I took another leap of faith and entered their drawing for a $500 store credit, never thinking I'd hear anything else on it. I never win anything. Well, I guess this was my lucky retail encounter. Last week I received a call from Jessie that I had won, followed by the actual credit in my E-mail box. I bought a house that needed some renovation. How much I didn't know at the time. Wasn't sure who to choose, but walked into Carpet Express one day and Tony gave me the name of a roofer who turned out to be great, no strings attached. I liked the generosity of that gesture and went back to them to see if they could get involved in the house renovation. The house as it was, apparently had not been updated since the sixties: drop down ceilings, mirrored walls, tiny sliding windows, wood paneled walls, and vinyl tile floors that were in total disrepair. Found some mold under the drop down ceiling tiles, and when I tried to spend the night in the house, I broke out in a rash and couldn't breathe. Tony engineered a total re-do, with cathedraled ceilings, skylight, new windows and insulation, electric work, a coat of paint and fancy window trim, and finally, engineered hardwood floors that really changed the whole feeling of the place. It was my first house purchase and Tony was always nice even when I had a dozen of worries and emergencies and changes of mind. He even came over one day to unclog the kitchen sink. I think he has a stellar character of real care for his customers. To say he treats them like family is actually true in this case. He could have charged more probably for all he did, but he kept the costs within my budget and was always respectful of what I needed to have done within my own limits. Every person in the trade I ran across while my house was being renovated would ask, who's your contractor? When I said Tony Porcelli, every one to a man said, Oh I know him. He's a great guy. So I add, He's a great guy...and when you are working for a long time with someone around all the time, and all the costs...it is really important. They did a great job. read more
