Looking for a chill place to have a good conversation complemented with a satisfying meal? Then…read morelook no further...Sömine is what you are searching for! We were on our way to another restaurant up the street and we all decided we could no longer be bothered with walking, that's when Sömine appeared in the distance. We decided to gamble and eat here instead. This is when laziness actually is beneficial. The staff here is so friendly and funny. You were served with the complementary items and given recommendations based on our eating preferences. My fellow veg heads we can eat here! They have several items on the menu that cater to vegetarian boundaries (vegan I'm not so sure). I forget the name of what I ordered but it was almost like a meatless and pastaless lasagna. It was de-lish-us! The place is a bit small with the tables fairly close to each other, so be careful when moving around. Luckily for us, there was one other party there so we had room to stretch our limbs. I would definitely recommend this place

And given that I was practically a novice to this area, I whipped out my phone to consult the opinion of my fellow Yelpers as to where they suggest a starving bloke should find consolidation for his stomach. Sömine popped near the top of the list with overwhelmingly good reviews - amongst others, one by Lizzie G, whose reviews are generally superb! I walked along Kingsland Road, with its mixture of ethnic supermarkets, trashy clothing stores and fried-chicken shops. But the further North you go (towards Stoke Newington), the more the area seems to become "cool", as you can find hip restaurants and coffee shops for the yuppies and hipsters that slowly, but surely seem to "gentrify" this area. Sömine is as low-key as it gets - in fact, it resembles a cheap cafeteria of my long-gone university days. But let's turn to the food for a minute: they mostly offer stews, which are on display already from the outside. The guy behind the counter explained to me the various flavours/ingredients and in the end decided on a vegetarian stew and a stew with minced lamb and aubergine. He ladled them both on a soup-plate and on the side he served me some pickled vegetables and rice. (I specifically asked for the rice to be served on a separate plate.) What I liked best about my dining-experience here was watching the kitchen ladies making Turkish raviolis right there in the restaurant (see photo). For some reason, this act of making food right here and there, made me believe that all their food is made with a similar passion...

My partner and I came here while visiting the Westfield Mall in Stratford, and while we didn't make…read morea reservation, we didn't feel welcomed or politely greeted by the man who seated us (All he asked was did we have a reservation and that was it). Another thing we noticed was our server, whose name I believe was Eddie. We felt he had a very cold demeanor towards us, and his service with us felt uncared for. One thing that stood out to us was when we asked for some tap water for our drinks, and he set it on our table in a rushed way that felt as if he slammed it or set it aggressively (probably mistakenly but impolitely from our perspective as customers). Not to mention we noticed he didn't check up on us to see if everything was good with our food/order. All in all, we understand that during rush hours it might be taking a lot out of the servers/waiters to satisfy each and every customer in the restaurant, but the food wasn't worth the service we felt we had received, and we were disappointed. Honestly, we wouldn't recommend anyone else to come here either.

Once again I find myself in Westfields Stratford. As an East Londoner, the thought of trekking…read moreinto Oxford treat or any area west of Liverpool Street station in general is a mission. So if I fancy topping up on some clothes, toiletries, or some recently discovered lovely home ware from H&M, then Westfield is my spot. Of course when visiting, whilst you may plan for it to be an in/out affair, it seldom is the case. All of the big windows with enticing items on display beckon your attention. Don't get me wrong I am not an impulsive shopper, I buy only what I need, but having a browse is something I am comfortable with. I guess it also makes it bearable because the place is not mad busy. You can move around with reasonable ease. For this particular recent trip, it was time to try our The Real Greek outside on the terrace. I have run out of options here having done Busaba Eathai and Bumpkin. The Real Greek is a simple food concept. Sharing stuff on tiered plate racks. Yep, mostly that's it. I don't mean to sound dismissive, in fact, I like the simplicity of how you select what you want and how its delivered. You have the option of choosing lots of plates to share from the cold, hot and grilled meze or they cut down the process of choosing in half by offering you the "Perfect for Sharing" options for two. We opted for this at £35. 25 with 8 meze items. All good groups are covered with your carb's, meats, fish and veg. A great selection. We opted for greek flatbread, houmous, green bean fava, prawns with feta, lamb kofte, dukkah chicken wings, falafel and saffron rice. The alternatives you could choose were just as good. On arrival we were kindly given a booth for four (there were only two of us). This is normally a no no for restaurants, but they were so friendly and accommodating. Great service. My reasoning for this table was because it was at the end of the room so I could get a better view and pics for the blog without elbowing or disturbing fellow diners. The "Perfect for Sharing" selection was curated by Tonia Buxton, the face of Greek Food in the UK, who is now apparently an ambassador for The Real Greek. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience following a less than satisfactory visit to the Covent Garden spot. I guess sometimes things need a second chance. I am delighted I was so forgiving, as this is quick, easy and tasting food.
