La Nonna is always busy when I walk past despite its remote location on Wimbledon Broadway. So, I…read moredecided to eat her this week although Italian wouldn't be my favourite food choice. They have created a clever seating arrangement with lots of nooks and crannies, creating lots of privacy for diners. The service was first rate throughout with friendly, attentive waiters. I decided to test the kitchen with 2 classics that leave nowhere to hide due to the simplicity and few ingredients in each dish. My starter of spaghetti carbonara sadly wasn't served in my favourite way, as they do on the continent - with a raw egg yolk on top to be worked into the warm pasta to lend the dish its creaminess. However, as a British carbonara, this was exemplary. The pasta was cooked to soft al dente and the sauce coated it rather than drowned it. Bacon and cheese are a classic winning combo and thios dish proved no exception. My main of calf's liver with pancetta was served with some sauteed potato. I knew the dish would be good from the moment it was laid on the table - there were heavy stripe marks from the grill and the smell was heavenly. The liver was sliced thinly but still moist on the inside with a crispy seared crust. Perfect amount of liver to bacon ratio I finished with bannofee pie - another winning combo of banana and toffee. Minor criticism that the biscuit base was a big thick There is a good lead in the kitchen and this place deserves to continue to thrive

This is a friendly, family-run Italian restaurant on The Broadway, towards South Wimbledon. It does…read morea good range of traditional Italian dishes, including pizza, pasta, meat and fish. Portions are generous, (you'll struggle with more than two courses) and while it is a little more expensive than some places, the food is both well prepared and authentic. Starters range from £4.50 for Bruschetta to £8.95 for King Tiger Prawns in garlic; pasta and pizza range from £6.95 to £9.50, and meat and fish dishes cost £11.95 - £17.95. Children's pasta and pizza portions are available for £5.00. Expect a two-course meal for two with wine and coffee to come to about £25-£35 a head, depending on the selection. The full menu is on the web-site, so you can plan ahead. Service is very attentive (and can feel a little too much so) but is also efficient and friendly. The only downside is the decor, which feels remarkably like a chain restaurant, but don't let that put you off. It can also get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings (I suggest booking ahead), and caters for groups, so it's perhaps not the choice for an intimate meal for two. But it's one of my favourites in the area during the week.
