I found this gym online when I was searching for local CrossFit programs. Most CrossFit memberships…read morecost $150+ each month, so when I found Carousel CrossFit at Transcend Fitness for $89/month for unlimited classes and full use of the regular gym, I wanted to check it out. Tucked away in the back of Carousel Village at Indian Walk off of Durham Road, these barns-turned-gyms are spacious, extremely clean, and full of quality machines/fitness gear. Behind the buildings, there is a running trail that takes you around the Christmas Tree lot and through a mini-zoo. Seriously. Emus, goats, donkeys, llamas, miniature horses... it makes running fun and they're just so CUTE. There is a huge obstacle course out back behind the gym as well. I can't wait to try it out this summer. The CrossFit coaches (who, I believe, also do personal training) are so knowledgeable about everything. I'm such a weak little shit, but they're patient with me, modify some of the workouts when necessary, and they take the time to make sure that everyone is using good form to prevent injury. They push us, cheer us on, and after two months of going 2-5 times per week, I really feel so much stronger. Transcend also has spinning classes, boot camp, MMA, boxing, and kids' fitness camp/classes. They're just getting started having yoga as well. Note: I believe a regular gym membership that DOESN'T include CrossFit is fairly cheaper than $89/month. Students are $40/month, but I don't know what that includes. This gym has everything, and I've never felt so confident about spending a monthly fee on something. (I'm always suspicious of reviews on Yelp if they sound like they're just an employee or even the owner of a business just trying to make the place sound better. I'm adding this as an afterthought just in case - I am in no way affiliated with this gym. I really just found the place online in February and I've been going ever since!)

My mom got a Groupon or livingsocial deal for here and brought my sister and I along for a class…read morerecently when I was home. The space is really gorgeous, a high ceiling-ed renovated barn in the Pennsylvania School of the Performing Arts, which has all these awesome giant posters of past shows. Renee, the instructor, was very nice and helpful. I think it was a holiday and there was only one other person in the class, which made it really intimate and wonderful. The heater was a bit noisy, and I remember the music being awkwardly loud for some reason. The class itself was a bit slow and not challenging enough for my liking, but still very relaxing. My mom and sister, who don't do yoga as much, really enjoyed it and found it challenging enough. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area and find Yogasphere too crowded! Prices were reasonable from what I remember. From their website, it looks like they have class outdoors by the lily pond in the summer, will definitely have to check that out next time I'm home and it's nice out!

As soon as I enter the studio, I shut off the "to do list" and feel my shoulders begin to relax…read more The warmth of the space and the instructors make you feel welcome, regardless if you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi. Classes available for all levels, from vinyasa to restorative. If you never tried yoga but want to, explore gentle yoga or restorative with Ginger or Cindy. You won't regret it!

I started coming to the Doylestown Club Pilates this past summer. It had been less than a year…read moresince my left hip replacement and a lot longer than that since my last workout outside of a swimming pool. I had used a Pilates reformer and TRX in physical therapy many years ago and really liked the controlled and isolated movements that they provided so this seemed like a smart choice for me. The location is great - there's plenty of parking, it's close enough to my home, and a few of my favorite large retailers are here (B&N, WFM) along with my favorite nail salon in the area. I like being able to schedule my classes online. The studio is super clean and inviting. The free intro class (mine was with Kimberly) sold me. The Center & Balance and Restore classes have turned out to be my favorite to build my strength and control so that I can advance to different challenges. The most important piece of this equation for me, however, has been the staff at this location. From my first visit, Suzie has remembered my name. From the first class that I took with her instructing, Suzie has remembered my physical challenges and the modifications that I need. My 58 year old bod has been through a lot so this is extremely meaningful to me and it keeps me coming back, even on days when I'd rather take a nap! Suzie's classes are fun, empowering, and rigorous all at the same time. Kimberly's classes always leave me grounded and even-keeled. Leah always greets everyone with a smile and her classes are really enjoyable. The entire staff makes me look forward to my time here. CP is not inexpensive and, if I'm being honest, it's not always easy for me to fit it into my budget. That said, I know without a doubt that it's a great investment for me. My line of work often leaves me physically and emotionally at capacity but coming to this Club Pilates consistently helps me feel like I'm doing something really good for my current and future selves! I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The studio is scrupulously clean (and we each wipe down every surface and object we have used during a class); the instructors are all well versed in alignment and physiology such that I feel comfortable and yet get a great workout; there is a great vibe to this studio location too--supportive and encouraging. Plus you get to look sleeker and more fit: win/win!

It's less of a convention "gym" and more like a small community of people who actually care about health and fitness. You won't see the all-so-annoying gym members that LA has... no roided-up men grunting at the weight racks... no women just barely covering up their va-jay-jays to get attention. It's about real people here. This gym has all the equipment that a conventional gym has, (treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, machines, etc.) but they have so much more,... The Jacob's Ladder (a never-ending ladder-- great cardio!), TRX bands from the ceiling, climbing ropes, suspended pull-up bar, vertical max boards, sliding boards, etc. There's even a Tough Mudder training obstacle course outside! The trainers really know what they're talking about, too. They go above and beyond to access your fitness needs, and they create a custom program designed for you to reach your fitness goals. I honestly can not go back to a regular gym after being at Fitlife. It's actually fun to workout, and less of a chore. They recently incorporated the MyZone Program into the gym. MyZone is a heart-rate monitor system.. when you wear your belt, your heart rate appears on the big TVs at the gym. Depending on the intensity of your workout, you accumulate "MEPs" which help you gauge how well of a workout you're getting. The system REALLY helps. It makes you compete with yourself (For me, I'm always trying to stay in the high yellow to red level) as well as others. FitLife makes MyZone fun too... for the months of July 2013 and August 2013, they have a contest-- get to 5,000 MEPs and be entered into a grand prize.. every 500 MEPs over that gets you another entry. I recommend this gym to anyone who wants to better their health, no matter how small or large the goal.

I love ALL of it. The classes are fun and keep you moving for a solid hour on all kinds of strength, cardio, and functional exercises. And the class size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. The obstacle course in the back is great for practice for any mud run. The facility itself is awesome with just about anything you can think of inside on the turf area, including a place to practice rope climbing! The personal trainers are the best thing about this place. Mike is my trainer and he is ridiculously fit and training for ANW himself. He is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition and extremely patient when teaching me about both! Personal training is not inexpensive, but I really feel like he is taking the time to put together customized training that is completely specific to helping me achieve my goals and address my weaknesses. I'm excited to come in. I am exhausted when I leave, but also really pumped up by the workout and looking forward to more. He's a kick-ass trainer. Another trainer there, Brian, has also been extremely supportive and I can't believe he taught me how to climb a rope in one session. He's so upbeat. And all of the other trainers have been really welcoming and generous with high-five throwing as well. It is a great place to train. I have a Spartan annual pass this year and these guys are definitely helping me get Beast-ready!
