They have tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, plenty of picnic benches and seating around the park, a pool, and they have public restrooms. We enjoy walking around the park, watching the animals in the pond, and exploring the rose garden. There's a lot of green space which allows my dog the perfect opportunity to sniff around when he's tired of walking on the paths. I like that there's easy parking here, plenty of shade, and a large space to explore so we can enjoy a quick walk or a longer adventure.

Interestingly, the Sacramento Street Railway Company built the park in 1871 to attract people to take its trains. Then the park became a recreational area around the train line and continued to serve as a gathering spot for the residents in this neighborhood and the greater Sacramento community. Recently, we visited again to hang out with friends who wanted to meet up and have our kids play together and get out their wiggles while we chat and catch up. After the kids played for some time at the (new to us) playground, we walked over to enjoy the pond and to take a walk over to the Rose Garden. There's a path that surrounds the pond so you can get exercise with a view. We saw a lot of ducks and geese that day. Please don't feed them. They were friendly and very used to humans. After hanging out w/said friends of the fowl flavor for a few minutes, we walked towards the Rose Garden to enjoy the beauty of the roses and to people watch as they get their pictures taken and to hang out some more. Overall, I enjoyed visiting McKinley Park again, I really should come down here more often as it's a pretty great park, so big it takes up a whole city block and there's just so much nicely landscaped grounds, plant life, wildlife. It also offers a bunch of facilities to include a community pool, basketball court, a community center, picnic areas w/tables, several sports fields, plus tennis and volleyball courts. Our visit was in July 2025 to this cute Fair Oaks park within a small neighborhood. The park has a…read moresmall splash pad, and two playgrounds one for younger and older children. My granddaughter who is 8, loved the splash pad & the younger kids playground. The park is not gated and is adjacent to a walking path. Be careful if you have a little runner. The splash pad has a high water bucket dumping water in different directions. There was only one working water spout for the little kids when we came and the frog sprays water but you have to click the yellow button on the blue pole to make it work once it turns off. The older kids playground she loved the round rope swings but did get rope scrapes on back of both legs from swinging on them so be careful. Next time will use a towel under her legs. The big net play structure is fun if you want to just climb around but to get to the slides there is a big gap between the net structures that you have to go past in order to work your way across the rope bridge then to the slide. She was disappointed she couldn't get over to slides as a big gap she couldn't reach other side safely. Really wish there were rope stairs going straight up to slide area so kids can play on slide that can't do rope structure. The younger kids playground was nice. Multiple climbing structures that included a slide, rope hammock, a turning swing type activity. Parking is along the street only. Park has Drinking fountains and clean bathrooms. There are two picnic table areas. One down by the playgrounds and another by the splash pad.

This is a very nice & unique park with lots of space…read more We missed out on getting here in time for the Farmers Market that was shutting down, but enjoyed the different play areas with little one. There is a farm-themed structure, an older area, and a newer area. Some of the playground equipment were things not usually seen or that I've never seen, such as a contraption to dig in the small sand area. I also noted that the newer area was built with inclusivity in mind. Some really nice aspects are that there's a large covered cemented area, some picnic tables & benches, and lots of grass. There's a neat manually-powered carousel with suspended animals to ride on that was operating for a fundraiser. There are also musical activities. We were able to spend a lot of time here enjoying being outdoors while little one played on everything.

First, I went to the women's bathroom stall and it was dark inside with no lighting and wet all over the ground. It was slightly dirty, though, the outside pink building was beautiful. Thankfully, the event offered porta-potties, which were much cleaner than the actual bathroom stall. Most parks offer complimentary parking. This park charges for parking and the rates are as follows: $2.00 per hour or $7.00 for an all-day pass. The park provides a big pond area with a good handful of ducks. There is also a playground available for children's leisure and entertainment. Lastly, there are "exercise stations" placed throughout the park, which encourage more physical activity. Overall, it was a peaceful, beautiful, and spacious park.

They do have a sandbox area as well--while sand isn't our personal favorite, I know it's a huge hit for many kids and adds another fun option for play. The workout equipment is very fun for kids and adult to play together. Then they also have a playground that kids can switch around. When u walk to the other side of the playground they have zip lining! It's super fun, The only down side is there is lots of poop, probably from people walking their dog and didn't clean up after. So make sure watch your step! Wish they can help keep the park clean. This is a very fun park ! Will be back if in the area. This is definitely hidden gem.

There are a couple of horsies and other things spread out away from the main structure but word to the wise, the spinny one is challenging to rotate for little ones so essentially don't even bother or bring some WD-40 or someone with strong arms/patience. Most parents here don't seem to monitor their children. And even when there was a mom standing right there and watching, she did nothing when her son pushed my child off of a bench. Regardless, my son coped fine with the aggressive kids, and he and I still had a great time. Just wished the kids were taught some playground etiquette. But I suppose that's not the park's fault.
