I understand this organization is trying to come across as creating a very high level standard of home selection for these pets, but all they are doing is gatekeeping based on multiple choice application answers. Maybe before auto-declining a potential family, try an additional phone call to better understand the application and clarify any details. If anything, they are turning off people from wanting to even try to adopt a pet just because their foster volunteers are becoming too attached. While many animals are struggling to find homes, you have this organization declining people left and right. We are strictly indoor cat people, but we're declined because we mentioned we sometimes allow our cat to walk around the enclosed and fenced in back porch (fully supervised). I guess their policy is their cats can never see outdoors. I hope they learn that fresh air and some outdoor enrichment is important for cats. Based on their other social platforms, they don't seem to have much support (compared to other local foster organizations). Also, you can tell from their reviews, they need to seriously reevaluate their process or find better foster parents. read more

I have adopted from them multiple times. They are truly amazing at what they do and these reviews are shameful. Just because you were declined for an animal for whatever reason, (which they have every right to do, they're not animal shelter or a pet store) doesn't mean you should complain about a NONPROFIT purely volunteer run organization. All these reviews are basically just saying that they either didn't respond fast enough to YOUR liking or they're saying that they're just angry and/or upset that they were declined in general. I want to point out that two or more people said that they were declined for puppies and the reason was about their work schedules. Puppies need 24/7 constant care, you can't just go to work and leave it with a relative or a friend. When puppies are neglected that's when they begin to act out and that's usually why people RETURN them!!! It's very important that a puppy is preferably with someone who either works from home or is home 24/7 ideally, having a "flexible" work schedule just simply isn't enough especially if there's another family out there that can offer them more than that. If you were declined, it was probably because there was a better option for that specific animal, and how is that anyone's fault/ these people's problem? Y'all are literally just upset about these again NON PAID VOLUNTEERS not catering to YOU specifically out of all the hundreds of applications they probably get. Truly shameful honestly. These people genuinely put so much effort and care into selecting the best homes for these animals and they don't get paid a single cent, yet some people are so entitled that they feel the need to make a yelp page just to complain like y'all are sad. If you want an animal that you can just pick out no questions asked without the proper vaccinations, and vet work then go to a shelter and pay for all that yourself. Feel free to also deal with all the ringworm, flees, emaciation, and all the other medical issues that goes along with that too, which a rescue like this always takes care of before they ever adopt out. My wife and I attempted to adopt a kitten after seeing him at a local PetSmart, we're both animal lovers who have each owned several cats and thought we had a good chance of adopting the little guy. After applying and not hearing back for over a week, we inquired about the status of our application. We were rudely informed that they do NOT operate on a first come first serve basis and were currently working with a different applicant for the adoption. I personally find the way this went down absolutely despicable. I will never recommend this organization to anyone ever. read more

I applied for two different kittens on April 10th and didn't hear back besides that they were reviewing my application. Then the same kittens came up on petfinder on April 30th so I forwarded the application sent on April 10th and emailed to let them know. They said that they don't consider old applications and I would need to resubmit but that they already have other applicants for both kittens. I spent a lot of time filling out that application and getting my hopes up for nothing. After reading the other reviews I realize this is how they operate. read more

This rescue has a No declawing policy. That is fine. In our initial application, I said yes, we'd consider de-clawing a cat (only it's front claws) since we have very young toddlers at home. This cat would be in a very loving home, and would be a 100% indoor cat, so we thought declawing would be acceptable. Once they denied our application, because of this, I wrote back and mentioned that we would change that and agree to not declaw. My application was still denied. They have TERRIBLE correspondence, take days to reply back and are totally impersonal and rude. read more

My husband and I applied for a puppy. To make this short and sweet basically they will only email you and tell you from your application if you are a fit or unfit for the puppy (in our situation). We both work however we live not even 15 mins away from my in-laws and my parents. And my husband has very flexible work schedule so he was planning on working from home. Also we had made plans and had family helping us out for whatever days we needed. They were very rude and did not even want to speak to us about our plans and said we are unfit. read more

I normally never leave reviews but feel I have to after having read the three one-star reviews here! The people at Carolina PAWS are fantastic and really, truly care about the welfare of their animals. We too filled out the three-page application and had a 30-minute interview with the foster parent. We have a lovely kitten now who seems to be very well-placed thanks to the work done by Carolina PAWS. These people have spent lots of time with each animal and know their personalities, their individual needs, what makes them (un)comfortable, etc. I don't see how anyone can fault them for wanting to find the best fit for each precious animal. If you see it from their perspective -- lots of people want to adopt. If they know a cat prefers not to be around dogs, why would they choose to let the cat go with a dog owner when they can instead let the cat go with a family who doesn't have a dog? Sorry for my rant. But it is upsetting to see people trash an organization whose number one priority is to help some beautiful animals find their forever home. read more

My family really wanted to adopt a kitten from Carolina Paws. We completed the application. They were fully aware of the fact that we have a young dog. The foster mom came to the house for the house visit with the kitten. My dog was very hyper and of course the kitten will be scared at first. I told them that my dog is hyper when she meets people and animals for the first time and then she settles down, but they didn't care. They told us that it was not a good fit, and that the kitten didn't do well with the interaction. How someone can tell from a 15 min interaction that two animals will never get along is beyond me. We have a very lovely home, and we are very good with animals. I guess the kitten was better suited with the foster mom, who had 12 cats and 2 dogs at one time?? Also- I found it very rude that the foster mom walked on our brand new, cream colored rug with her shoes on. read more

This is the worst place to go to if you are looking to adopt a animal. I was rejected from a adopting a dog from this organization due to having a job that is flexible and the only reason they gave me was due to the dog being alone for more than 6 hours a week. I think it is pretty sad to reject someone that leaves a puppy alone for only an hour a day. I will never try to use this place ever again to adopt a animal. Worst experience ever. read more

I contacted Carolinapaws for adopting a kitten, filled up a 3 page document, talked with them for 30 min but later they come up with denial as the cat I liked is staying with other dogs and cats. So as per Carolinapaws this cat was not suitable for us. If this is the actual reason then they should have rejected after receiving my application. This whole conversation happened in front of my son and when he came to know he felt very sorry. I wish we could have avoid this. Also the reason seems to be riculous as I cannot get a cat since I do not have a pet. I will try some other adoption center. read more
