I ordered a a Steak Ribeye dinner today, 8/13/2025. My steak came burnt. When I brought it to the manger's attention she stated that is the way "we make them". this happened 09/06/2025 I came to Carolina Ale House with my fiancé (I'm Mexican American, and she is Salvadoran American), and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. From the beginning, we did not feel welcomed or greeted with respect. Even more concerning, the staff served us a pitcher of alcohol without ever checking our IDs -- despite the fact that someone at the table was under 21. This shows a serious lack of supervision and responsibility. Not only did we feel overlooked as customers, but this could have also created legal and safety issues. As a Latino couple, it was disheartening to feel like we weren't treated with the same courtesy and professionalism that should be given to every guest. We hope the management takes this seriously and improves their service and training to ensure all customers are treated properly and responsibly. read more

Online order, Barely scrapping 3 stars for a couple of reasons. The zingers (chicken strips) were pretty small, they looked like bits of strips instead of full sized ones. The other issue is that they were super cold. We had to reheat them in the microwave. They were soaking in grease. I mean it was really bad. We got the Parmesan Garlic ones. We also were really looking forward to getting onion strings, (we always get them when we go dine in). They weren't on the Uber Eats menu so we place our order and call in to see if we can add this item and pay over the phone (we've done this before with other places). The girl says she can't. We came to watch the UNC Duke game and were not impressed. The lemon drop martinis we ordered came out half full (picture below)- serving cocktails like this isn't really acceptable. It looked like they put a lemon drop shot into a martini glass & called it a martini. The other cocktail we ordered (spicy Marg) was also not great and tasted like it was full of sour mix even though the menu said fresh lime juice. I don't expect great craft cocktails at the Ale House but I at least expect them to be a full drink. The food was okay, nachos were decent but could use more cheese. Normally, the food at this place is fine, but last night was a different experience. I ordered onion soup and a salad with extra tomato. The service was very slow, and others around me started commenting on the delays. When my salad finally arrived (served by a different server), it contained only lettuce, a single thin slice of tomato, and one slice of cucumber. When my original server came by, I asked about the soup. It took 8-10 more minutes for her to return with a bowl of onion soup, but it had clearly been reheated, as there was no cheese on top. I mentioned this to her and told her not to worry about the tomatoes, as I was already halfway through the salad. The manager came over to apologize about the tomato issue and explained that there had been a shift change, which caused delays and mistakes with the orders. Despite the issues, they didn't offer any compensation for such a disappointing meal. read more

We seem to look for a while like 15 minutes. That's a lot right? That's how long it took for our server to come and greet us. It's one of the most easiest things to make and I get a half warm roll with warm frozen meat. So I see the reviews and confused because we did DoorDash, and it was great. Because we got our food early and everything. We got 6 Buffalo wings North Carolina ones and the flavor was spicy but tolerable. Mushroom Swiss burger the meat was cooked perfect med. and had nice flavor, I'm not sure what sauces they used on there but had a nice kick to taste memorable. Went here on a Sunday night, around 7ish host was excellent fast. Sat us down once we came in the restaurant. Was sitting there for around 15 to 20 minutes. Until our server came. Server was non attentive. First time I felt unseen as a customer. Got our drinks brought them back pretty fast. Then left again ain't even ask if we was ready to order or nothing. So sitting there for another roughly 10 minutes. The server comes around. Takes our order. Mind you the place was loud asf already and she over here whispering to us. So could barely hear. Then boom out of no where music starts playing EVEN louder than the tv. You bet I walked out of there with a headache. So anyways food came around she dropped it off. Me and my gf wanted sauces she needed ranch and I wanted bbq. So we was waiting till she came around. Did she come around? NO SHE DID NOT! On Saturday, May 13, 2023 went to the Carolina Ale House for lunch with about 8 of us and for Mother's Day. That was the worst meal I ever had. The bill came to $186.. The wings was cold, not luke warm we ordered 2 1/2 rack of ribs dryrub, they both came with bargeque sauce we sent back, the grandchildren chicken strip meals was not tasteful. The two waitress was slow. I had to ask for serverware twice and that was after we had the meal. for that amount of money i should have or had better service and a decent mothers day meal. Let me begin by saying we are regulars at CAH in Cary. We happen to be on this side of town and stopped in on St Patrick's Day for a green beer and a couple of Apps. It was around 3 in the afternoon and of course not very crowded. We ordered our beers and they arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered 2 appetizers and expected they would be along shortly. NOT the case !!! We waited well over 30 min for the Apps to arrive. Just before they came, my husband ordered another beer. We were FINISHED with the Apps before the beer arrived !!! And the bartenders were not busy ! We ordered the steak flatbread and it had obviously been sitting for so long that it was soggy in the center. Our server. Jonathan, seemed to disappear from time to time. When we exited the restaurant it was evident what was going on. Our server was sitting on the curb on the side of the restaurant smoking a cigarette and surfing on his phone !! I called my bride and told her I was getting a burger, and get a burger I did! The burger was juicy, cooked nearly perfectly (I always order rare, and without fail, my burgers are generally overcooked) and very very good. Beer selection when it comes to Porters was disappointing - 3 choices for porters/stouts. Oh well, went with the Guinness. There was not any Harps on the menu to get a black and tan. Ordered a second burger for take out so my baby girl would have something to eat on her way home from work and she raved about how good it was. Love, Love, did I say that I LOVE this restaurant? Mind you, I have NEVER stepped foot in it!!! Our love affair has strictly been "long distance!" I have only ordered delivery through Door Dash, and I have NEVER been disappointed when I opened my containers! I actually clap and giggle when I do...the food that I have tried here: Artisan 5-Cheese Spinach Dip Southern Fried Chicken Salad Fresh Wings (Parmesan Garlic) Grilled Cobb Salad 28-day Aged Ribeye Chips and Salsa My favorite dish to order here was the Southern Fried Chicken Salad. The chicken is freshly fried, crispy, the greens are fresh and clean, all of the ingredients, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, red onions, boiled egg, are all nicely chopped and presented beautifully on top of the greens. I really wish I had taken pictures of my salads, but I didn't think about doing reviews at the time! My NEW favorite dish is the 28-day Aged Ribeye Steak!!! OMG!! I literally used a Plastic knife and fork to eat....and was saddened when I realized that I had eaten the whole steak! I chose to have it grilled medium, and paid the extra for Loaded mashed potatoes. This may be the ONLY time that I will EVER say that I have any disappointment with CAH...I did NOT have enough mashed potatoes or grilled vegetables for the price of my meal. Other than that, it was truly extraordinary. Their wings are absolutely DELICIOUS! I enjoy the Parmesan Garlic flavored ones. The sauce wasn't too buttery, and the wings were prepared properly to absorb the sauce. The ratio of Parmesan cheese to garlic was perfect, and those poor wings really didn't stand a chance! The Artisan 5-Cheese Spinach Dip is tasty, but I prefer to eat mine with crisp, hot tortilla chips. Some people like pita points. I like them when it's a Seafood dip. The dip actually travels well, and is really good. I warmed it up more once it arrived, and I also heated the chips. It makes it like you're enjoying your appetizer in the restaurant. Their chips and Salsa leaves a little bit to be desired though. The chips to Salsa ratio is way off, and I was looking for a fresh, house made Salsa, not a sauce. It lacked true flavors, like fresh lime juice, cilantro, garlic, and the bite of jalapeno peppers. All of the necessary ingredients for a delicious Salsa. Lastly, the Grilled Cobb Salad didn't disappoint either. As I mentioned before, all of the salad ingredients are nicely chopped and presented on top of freshly washed greens. I failed to mention how ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS their salad dressings are!!!! Their Ranch dressing is LICK THE CONTAINER DELICIOUS....AND, you can do that at HOME, because as Tabitha Brown says, "it's my business." But I wouldn't dare do that in the restaurant! I've had a number of meals from Carolina Ale House and have never gone wrong with any of them. They have a good selection of standard sports bar food, such as wings, and a nice array of sandwiches and entrees as well. The most interesting item on their menu that I've ever had was the Turkey Pita Club -- a double decker sandwich made with pita bread. Interesting take on an old favorite of mine, and it was pretty good. I've always used delivery, so I can't speak to the dine-in experience, but their food is well worth giving them a try. read more

We had an awful experience here this afternoon and I really wish we would have checked the reviews before wasting $60. We ordered a chicken fried salad, frickles, a rack of ribs, and two kids meals and some donuts. The chicken salad initially looked appealing but underneath the chicken all of the lettuce was wilted and the tomatoes were old. The kids meals were absolutely disgusting. French fries dripping in oil and in one of our takeout containers, the employees threw the French fries on top of the pizza. Could you be any lazier or are you too cheap to give an additional take out container? The ribs were dry and again, French fries gross. The staff here needs some training. Your prep cooks should be able to identify the difference between outdated greens and not. Maybe have a just a bit of care for your customers who are spending their money here. I doubt anyone that works there would have ate the "food" they gave us. Please do not waste money here like I did. This place clearly takes no pride in their work. read more

Perfectly acceptable bar grub, though it's nothing special. There are about a zillion beer choices, though in general it's not quite as cold as I'd like it. Service tends to be much faster if you sit at the huge U-shaped bar. Plus at the bar you have full view of the ring of TVs inside it, so if the game you want to see happens not to be the one on the central big screen, you're golden. This is definitely the best place in Durham to watch a sporting event, and they always have the volume perfectly balanced with the ambient noise from patrons. Foodwise, like I said, it's nothing special and all the usual suspects are here. It's not terrible, it just doesn't stand out. I used to really really like their grilled honey barbecue wings, but then I found out how many calories are actually in wings and I gave up eating them. Service is on top of things 90% of the time.
