I've been going to Carnegie back when they had Motocross races in the 70s out there and enjoying the riding trails, fire roads and hill climb areas ever since. My long time friend Dave Duffin (R.I.P.) petitioned to keeping Carnegie open for public use as a member of Carnegie Forever organization and has enabled our non profit organization (Oasis for Kids.org) to continue our 50 plus year tradition of taking youth ( boys and girls) there to learn how to ride safely, about safety riding gear and to have fun on motorcycles while respecting the land. This January 2026 the Park Rangers used rice hull to fill in the ruts from the rain erosion and made those areas very slippery instead of using DG or a more tractable filler and some trails had granite rocks as filler so that was challenging also. But overall, you cannot beat the low cost and huge number of trails, beginner tracks, MX tracks and picnic facilities with bathrooms as a great place for families, friends and riders of all ages to enjoy the outdoors together! Kudos to the Park Rangers for being very responsive to rider accidents as we saw some young kids go up a steep trail on a quad with no helmets on and flip over needing to be taken by stretcher down the hill for medical attention. (Rangers can be contacted via Cell phone emergency channels as cell reception is poor for calls.) Walkie Talkies are recommended for group rides . Enjoy Carnegie OHV Park! I am so fed up when my friends and acquaintances bust my balls for lifting my Tacoma and throwing on some 33" tires. I love all things automotive and in my younger days, I was into little rice rockets and wasted way too much money on those. I've now grown up and have gotten into a mature motorsport. I'd love to go on actual trails with the family one day, but for now, I limit myself to controlled SVRAs. Carnegie is great because it's close to home and it's only $5 to get in. Yes, the 4x4 play area is on the smaller side, but it does the job when you just wanna get a little dirty. They actually have some technical climbs, and I'll leave those to the Rubicons wearing 37s. For now, I can get over the hills and some of the mud pits and sand traps. It's great to stretch the legs and get the differentials going. If you got a dirt bike or quad (which I plan to get one day), then this place is even more fun. Tons of trails for you guys and everyone seems to have so much fun here. When driving around the park, watch out for the little kiddos riding. It's crazy to see 10 years olds on little bikes riding around. Good for them! Looks like there are a bunch of restrooms around, but I never got a chance to use them. I'll def be back! read more

Carnegie is a great facility -- they have several different tracks for all levels and vehicle types, a small shop, camping sites, and plenty of room to spread out. We have 2 young beginner riders, so we spend our time mainly on the children's/beginner's tracks. We like that they are more challenging than a simple round-about, but still small enough where we can run out to them when they occasionally take a spill. Carnegie is a little out of the way for us, but worth the drive. You can't beat the cheap entry, bathroom's are kept very clean, and the Rangers are great. The roads are unpaved, so be prepared to get dusty, even just as a spectator. I do wish the Rangers kept a better eye on the bikes that enter the beginner's track though. Sometimes the older kids ride into the small kid's tracks, which are reserved for 70ccs and 110ccs and below. It's not a big deal, just a bit intimidating for my 4 year old when the big, fast bikes ride up behind him. read more

Very nice facility. Lots of shade structures and picnic tables. The bathrooms were clean and the area was well maintained. I can only talk about the 4x4 area. The area is quite small. I've been here about a half dozen times, and even when it has been crowded down in the parking area, the trails have never gotten too congested. The park is huge, so if you're willing (and able) to ride the different trails, you could easily spend hours upon hours riding around. There are also a few closed circuit tracks, if that's what you prefer. There are several bathrooms, water fountains, and a general store/cafe on site, as well as picnic table and even a camping area, so the amenities are also there. You can't really beat a $5 entrance fee, either! read more

Great place to ride. The staff are always trying to improve the area. Has a store, Motomart, they have some food and motorcycle gear. There are small tracks and larger for more advanced. Lots of trail riding in the hills. There is an area to 4x4 in and atv areas. It gets hot and dusty in the summer. Camp ground is simple, first come first serve. Has tables that are covered and fire pits. Camp ground is small. The Rangers keep a tight tab on those screwing around which makes it safe for the younger riders. read more

Good spot for dirt trails. More for dirt bikes and ATV riders. Not really much for 4x4 vehicles, trucks, rock climbing, or dune type vehicles. Plenty of spots to park if you are picnicking or camping out for day use. Perfect for social distancing. My favorite adrenaline is riding over gravel rocks. read more

Carnegie is a good affordable day trip when you have a big family outing who enjoy riding dirt bikes other than the good price the tracks have no maintenance and are really dusty and should be water more frequently. The track layout needs to be changed. The smaller tracks are good for young kids who have just began this motor sport. I am not a trail guy but these are some of the better trails out there that are actually near by. Over If you are going there for a Motocross experience I would recommend Club Moto, Argyll MX, and Sand hill which are all under an hour away from Carnegie read more

Carnegie is a great spot if you have a dirt bike or quad. Although its 99% dirt bikers, you do see a hand full of quads rolling around (Im one of them). I've been here about 6 times this years as Im new to ATV's. I started out on the flat land and gained enough confidence to go up the hills. There are lots of spots to park and hang out under a shad structure (some of them even have BBQ's) and lots of bathrooms near by (get there before 10am to snag a spot on the weekends). You cant beat $5 entry for a day of riding. The rangers ore pretty cool here but be careful and watch your speed as they enforce the 15mph rule on the main road. There a huge MX track and a smaller MX/ATV track for you to ride. There are also two kids tracks as well. This is a family friendly park and there lots of young kids riding. There's a 4x4 play area with a mud pit, sand, boulders, stairs and obstacles. If you've never been to Carnegie its worth checking out! read more

This review is specifically for the campgrounds at Carnegie. If you are camping and dirtbiking I'm sure the experience is very worthwhile and enjoyable, but when advertised as a campground here are some things I wish I know ahead of time. We saw Carnegie listed on a camping website, and the main appeal is that they allow dogs and they had plenty of availability even on a holiday weekend ("plenty" should have been a red flag for us). My friend called with questions about the campsite, to get a feeling for what kind of campsite it was, since we were driving from San Francisco we wanted to make sure it was going to be worth it. The person on the phone mentioned that there were some trees and some scenery....but failed to mention ANYTHING ELSE. Like the fact that you are basically camping in a dirt parking lot, right next to a road where cars go speeding by at all hours of the night. Or that you're looking at giant dirt mountains and will be breathing in dirt all day. Or that it was incredibly windy on the day that we called (and maybe every day). Not sure how it normally is, but Carnegie is in a canyon and the wind was howling like crazy. And since we couldn't even stake our tents into the bedrock, the tent walls were flying up all through the night. Between that and the cars speeding along the road 6 feet from our tents, it was a very restless night. It wasn't all bad though. The bathrooms are close by and have running water and electricity, and each campsite has a really tall fire pit so the wind didn't put out our fire. There's also trashcans at each site, and rangers come around and empty them in the morning. The cost is cheap, it was $10 per car for overnight camping. Dirtbiking seemed fun, and made us wish we could be doing that instead. One thing, they have dirtbikers of ALL ages (read: CHILDREN), so you need to be really careful driving through the parking lot. We saw some reckless dirtbiking, and it made me very nervous to share the road with them. On the plus side though, we did see a ranger pull over one of the ATVs so it's nice to know they're patrolling. All in all, Carnegie couldn't stand alone as a campground, and I wish they were more up front about that on the phone. But as a Vehicular Recreation Area, it seems like a ton of fun and a unique experience to check out. read more

It could be a little bigger area, the park is mostly for dirt bikes & quads but it a lot of fun getting the Jeep dirty. Love to go, close to home and many different terrains. Just watch it on the 2-way single track trails. VERY DANGEROUS. Use the signals to let on coming riders who is behind you. DO NOT DRINK AND RIDE, YOU WILL GO TO JAIL AND HAVE YOUR BIKE IMPOUNDED! The Parks Police are all over the place, especially on heavy days. They mean business. DO NOT SPEED ON THE ROAD. YOU WILL GET A TICKET. Just follow the rules there any all will be good! The shop is great! The new owner is a hell of guy! Willing to help you (if he has the time) fixes a flat quick. He replaced a jet for me for $20.00. Took him a little time as well. All around helpful and treats everyone like a rider, not a looser. The kid tracks are good too. My 9 year old loves it (his first year of riding). The kid track in the far back is for 50cc - 70cc bikes, so dont feel like youre doing someting wrong by telling some kid on his 125 to get the hell off the track! read more

This was my first time riding a dirt bike and I must say it was very enjoyable. The class was more for additional training as I already ride a street bike. The class was very small and intimate and the riding course is small, which is perfect for a beginner. Phil and Renee, who run the school, advertise there are no more than four students per class. Signing up for the class was very easy. I called and left a message and Renee called me back within a few hours, not right away but no fault of their own because they were at the course (the course is in a remote area and unless you have a satellite phone, you're not going to get any reception). Renee responds right away to emails and any messages left on their phone. You will then receive an email confirming your class and the instructions how to pay for the course. In my class, here were only two students and the other student was a child, which did require additional attention by Phil, the dirt bike instructor. This was fine with me because I already have experience riding bikes, so I required little supervision. I did, however, witness Phil interacting with the child, who must have been around 7-8 years old. Phil's patience with him was remarkable. He is very patient and communicated very well with him. I would imagine he would be a great instructor with first-time riding adults who I assume can pick up the commands and dirt bike riding techniques much better. Based on my experience in this class and what I witnessed, I highly recommend this class to anyone, adult or child, who is just starting out riding bikes or taking the class for additional riding experience. One additional note. You have to bring a long sleeve shirt/jacket for the class. It was very warm there and while it is hard to tell how the day will be, I brought a light long-sleeve shirt and also a thermal long-sleeve shirt just in case. I wore the light long-sleeve shirt the entire day. I also brought a change of over-the-ankle shoes in case my shoes got dirty or muddy. This is so I don't get the inside of my car dirty. As someone that has been riding bikes since the age of five, i like to think i know a thing or two, and as long as i have been riding, ive been going to carnegie all my life. Carnegie has trails, hill climbs, motocross tracks(as well as a track for the tots and one for the quads), and even a little bit of trials of you look around. I usually go during the weekday so i can get the park to myself. Most of the time the rangers keep the park nice and groomed every so often. Alot of of the fun has gone away ever since they closed the bottom of carnegie cause of conflict pertaining to the bed creek being contaminated, but theres still alot of fun to be had. The best part of carnegie is that is very close to home; on the outskirts of livermore. PS, they are very strict when it comes to speeding on the fireroads, so i reccomend you do the limit =] read more

Nice place for quads and dirt bikes - although more dirt bike friendly than quad friendly. Price is very reasonable, day pass is $5 and well worth it. When you get to top of the hills its very scenic and beautiful. Each season has its own beauty. Best time to go is spring, that way you don't eat the dry dirt trail being thrown in the air by the rider in front of you. It can get very dusty in the summer and fall. good time to go is right after a rain. And some of the hills can be very challenging - I found out the hard way by tumbling down of of them! :) The park's terrain can accommodate every level of rider, and I like it specially since its only 30 minutes from my town! This is the best local option unless you have the time to go to Hollister or Pismo beach. Would highly recommend. 4 stars only because its so far from civilization! read more

I want to give Carnegie 5 stars, but I just can't. Don't get me wrong I always have a great time when I take my bike out. My biggest issue is the 2 way trails, there have been a few close calls. I also don't like how certain trails start off easy and then jump to expert. I ate it a few times when I first started riding because of this. I love how big the park is though, much better than the congestion that I sometimes run into at Santa Clara. If you love hill climbs this is the place to go, I often just park the bike and watch and wonder how some people can make it up such a steep hill. I recommend going out in the afternoon and riding until it closes. I have found that there are less people than going out in the morning. read more

Awesome place. Have gone there 3 days in the last 2 weeks and still want to go back. Trail riding is exciting, adventurous, challenging, and fun. The best of the best riders and even new ones can enjoy the hills. Tons of single track trails and larger fire-road trails. A lot of hill climbing for beginners or even the most advanced. Busy on the weekends but during the weekdays it can be slow. Slow as in i was the only rider besides the rangers. Bite off what you can chew and be careful. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR ORANGE CONES AND POSTS. There are sink holes and ditches in some areas that can ruin your day, but they are in the more advanced areas. Some trails will turn into rocky, rutted, and washed out nightmares. As with the sink holes these trails are also in the more advanced areas. The hills are abit dry right now due to the drought. New tires would help a lot for the more difficult hills. Bring water as it is hot lately. I took 2 gallons with me and wore a camel back while i was riding. Needless to say i was still pissing yellow from not getting enough water. The beer didn't help though. There are three different race tracks. One for 90cc and smaller, one for quads and dirt-bikes, and one MX track. Im not big on racing but they keep the tracks watered down and maintained so they are nice to ride. Great place to ride and improve your skills just use common sense, and take on what you can handle because you have to potential to get yourself in trouble. read more

I don't ride but I like coming here to camp for a day or two for a little escape my phone don't work here. Lots of shade bathroom and shower are clean your not super close to the other site. My boyfriend and I pack up his car and head down the street and set up camp and spend time with each other with no electronics besides listen to music. Has a fire bit with a little grill,a bqq, picnic table and some sits has a place to store your food. read more

Staff are great, the rangers here are just heavily armed as if you are crossing the US border!! I never understood this why, but on the other hand, the park is vast and nicely maintained, only issue is bad quads roam this place and novice riders cause 80% of fatalities here, you need to watch out for bad riders and parents that are careless about the kids they bring to this park. read more
