I walked in on a Tuesday to get a slice to go, and there was a group of 3 teenagers on the basketball team sitting and eating knots and pizza while conversing with the lead pizza man. Bald. Nice guy. I paid $6.55 for water and a slice. As I placed my order and was waiting, the 3 kids proceeded to order more food in an "indian" accent and taunt me. I have gone here for decades. Owner was rude at times and decent others, depending on the day. Pizza was huge and good. $3 got you a mega slice. I mean huge. Two plates for a slice. Well he now only serves regular sized slices (bordering on small) but the price has gone up. $4.75 for a speciality slice that is relatively small. Pizza is pre-made and sits in the display window. By 3:00pm you're getting a tiny selection of slices that are stale. Business is dead from what I see. Place is old and dirty with mop buckets and cleaning products in clear view behind the register. He has not updated the place at all in all this time. Service is by the owner who is mean and doesn't care. Employees looked like they hate being there. Seems right since you can see many of his former staple employees working at other local pizza spots. $9.50 for two slices of mediocre pizza. Lol. No. I was going to take photos but it wasn't worth the effort. Oh, he takes credit cards finally but gets a real attitude about it. He is pretty heavy about demanding cash. The pizza is really bad in Closter for some reason, and Carmine and Ray's is no exception to that rule. There is no customer service at this place, and I have seen some unsanitary actions from the guys behind the counter. From using their bare hands to handle dirty cash payments directly on to prepping the food without washing them or putting gloves on. They put cold pepperoni on a pizza that has already been cooked because they forgot to add it on before they put it in the oven. They pick up cheese that slid off a too-hot pie with these dirty hands and put them back on the pie for it to re-settle before feeding it to customers. If you didn't see them do this, you would never know! People like this will most likely not wash their hands after using the bathroom. read more

Overall the pizza here is ok and it had been the local place that I was taking my young son to for a slice about once a week. Unfortunately the 2 older gentlemen are extremely rude and do not care at all about customer service. Last time I was there they almost dropped my slice and the toppings all slid off. The older man said "don't let it go to waste" and pushed the toppings back on and made a mess of our lunch... That was the last straw for me. Between the dirty inside, bad attitude every time one of the owners are there and recent experience (which made me think if they will do that in front of me what do they do in the back with their food) I am done with this place as there are lots of other options on the area. They need a reality show to come clean this place up! I saw the one review saying that this is NJ and people are over-sensitive. I've been going to this place for awhile now, in general I would say it's been pretty positive! Quality: the sides they make there taste quite good. Pizza is also pretty good if u get fresh slices. Service: completely depends on who you get helping you. Most of the time u get a rlly cool guy who once even gave me an extra slice just because. He's super chill and def lightens the place. If u get the owner most of the time it feels a little grumpy and kinda eh. Price: while the price for the pizzas are fairly expensive, it's worth it when you get it fresh. The pizza isn't the absolute best but the rest of items on the menu make up for it. Vibe: I've never eaten there in person, always got takeout and people seemed to know each other and it was quite wholesome. A little old fashioned but the workers work real hard! I say the following as a fan of this pizza: The slices in the restaurant are delicious. Crispy crust and lots of flavor. Reminds me of the pizza I had as a child. IMO, the best slices in the area. That's the good part of this review. The not so good: 1.The in-store slices are much smaller than they used to be, and the price has gone up. I wish the slice sizes had remained the same size, and would've been happy to pay more for them. 2. The take out "large" pies are so SMALL. Barely enough to feed 2 people. Please consider making the take out pies larger, even if you have to charge a bit more for them. 3. The appearance of the restaurant: often looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Same dust balls on the floor each time. Stacks of beverage cases....stacks of delivery cases...disgusting garbage can. This doesn't inspire confidence in the overall cleanliness. I've never had a problem with the food, but a little effort to make the place at least look clean and neat would go a long way. I hope the owner will take these comments in the spirit they were given....as a way to improve his business and make this fan of the pizza want to continue to be a customer. read more

Great staff and decent prices for what you get. I got the baked ziti slice and my friend got the BBQ chicken. Slices are $4 and change. It's definitely a great place to go when you don't want to spend a lot of money and get a big slice of pizza to hold you over. Because their prices are so outrageous I really think it's possible there is some insanity happening here. Is there gold in this pizza? Oil? Diamonds? I am not tasting any... Do they think they are in NYC? No wait, NYC has cheaper AND better pizza. One slice. FOUR DOLLARS. Yea, I get that the slice is big, but ONE slice of pizza and a bottle of water shouldn't cost me over 6 bucks. Utterly ridiculous! Overall, a pretty decent slice. Certainly not the best in North Jersey. Keeping in mind the individual slices are fairly larger then your average slice. Therefore, you pay around $3.25 for one slice give or take. Not my "go-to" pizzeria, however I prefer this location over Rudy's. (Across the street). read more

I've been eating from Ray's for the last 2 years and I've always loved their pizzas and other meals. Nothing bad about the food, but the customer service could be a bit better. This one young man who works there, maybe mid 20s, always has something to say if you don't give a "good enough" tip. This has been an issue with myself, my sister, and multiple friends. They also wear their masks for the most part. I love the older men who work there because they are very kind to all their customers and even make jokes over the phone and in person :) read more
