I always wondered where half of the male population went after lunch time on a workday and it appears I have found their hang out! Pranzo serves up long, early or late lunches for the professionally suited of Adelaide. A glass of wine in your hand at 11am, 1pm or 4pm doesn't look out of place here and why not when you are served by the knowledgeable, well versed, wine connoisseurs of Pranzo! You will want to drink in the middle of the day just to be introduced to a new wine maker or grape variety you haven't tried before. First things first, the meals and wines at the place have a price that isn't to be sneezed at but... 1) When the boss is paying who cares? 2) If you are paying, treat this as a reward for all that hard work you're doing. Because the food, service and wine at Pranzo justifies every penny spent. Don't get distracted by the amazing items on the menu, get the Specials of the Day to be described to you first as Pranzo uses seasonal ingredients and likes to showcase things they have experimented with that day - whether it be house-smoking their own trout or sourcing a special kind of salt-water barramundi from their friends in WA. Or do as the locals do and "describe what your feeling," and trust in the wine and food pairing experts of Pranzo to serve you up something to suit your taste. When here we dined on herb crusted barramundi (Fish Of the Day) that was so well cooked it flaked as soon as you touched it. With a simple spinach, onion and butter dressing and side, this was spectacularly flavoured for such a simple dish. We also had a marinara pizza that was light and cooked with a perfect crust. Our arms were twisted to try their berry sponge thing with almond icecream. Thinking it was a piece of cake we were shocked when it came out in a terracotta pot (more of a serving for 3 than 2) and yet delighted that it was so big as it was gone in an instant. Hot, caramelly, sweet and not too much sponge, perfect! Finally - I can't say enough about the service here. The staff remember your name or your face and make you feel welcomed, loved and part of the Pranzo family of suits, men and plenty of eye candy.

Always busy, lots of legal people doing lunch from surrounding buildings etc., very noisy at lunchtime. Worth pre ordering otherwise takes forever. Very pricey for a lunch venue, a plate of pasta/risotto nudging $30, steak fish etc all closer to $40. My biggest problem with this place is the choices of wines which is mostly imported, lots of Italian, French, Portuguese wines, really seems unessessary considering this is Adelaide which is awash with brilliant local wines! So you are offered imported wines of indeterminate quality for $12-15 per glass. On the whole, overrated, overpriced, smallish serves - try somewhere else.

What can I say, they're still the same very yummy food that I remember. Oooohhh that creamy pasta is to die for LOL. The seafood pizza is delicious too. A bit salty for my liking but I kinda expect it since it has anchovies. Lol Regarding customer service, it's just ok. The first time we came the staffs on duty were all cheerful and welcoming. On our recent visit customer service was just blah. So it really depends on who's working that time. The only thing I'm not fond of is the price LOL. Like we ordered just one carbonara (good for 2) and small pizza (good for 2 as well)... and 1 coke haha --- and we paid like 40 plus aud. Oh well, sometimes you have to pay the price for a really good meal. 4.5 star

We took advantage of a great scoopon deal to try it out. Service was great our deal was $49 for 4 ppl for 2 course meal plus drink. Shared a smoked salmon brashetta entree then i had chicken pollo pasta and my partner had the Gnocchi. Entree was fresh and light beautiful. Chicken Pollo was nothing special to be honest. And for the price you would have paid $25 for the average dish i would be pretty disappointed. The gnocchi was light and fluffy and taste was great. All on all i was a bit disappointed with my first time experience but I would go back to try one of their wood fired pizzas. Fingers crossed i wont be disappointed again.

Situated in a charming stone cottage with a true Italian Pizzeria feel, Grotto makes seriously good boutique gourmet pizzas. Unlike hit and miss franchise pizza bars run by random casuals, the pizzas here are pretty special. Not quite as good as EST on East terrace on an overall basis but some of the pizzas are slightly better. Firstly they are thin and crispy and very well cooked, secondly the sauce is home made Napoletana. They are not oily or salty and they have imported Peroni red to wash it down with! We went on a busy period on Friday night, normally a period where you can guarantee delays and service issues but the opposite was true, we got looked after better than most retardants! The owner even came up to our table and asked if we were happy! Go for the meatball pizza (roast pork and fennel meatballs with basil and Parmesan) or the "pumpkin, pig & kid" washed down with one of their Italian reds. They even heat up the home made zeppole!

This is a suitable philosophy for the people at Grotto, who have chosen to keep it simple and do the one thing that they do best: simply good pizza. The Salty Pig is a popular choice and, like its restaurant, is nice and simple. It boasts numerous types of ham and is neither too basic, nor too fancy. I tire of restaurants creating overly ambitious meals that never quite hit the mark. Good food doesn't necessarily have to be exotic or expensive; all it takes is a good understanding of harmonising flavours, and Grotto's pizzas do just that. Hidden away from the business of The Parade, Grotto is surprisingly quiet despite the relatively short distance from the main street. Though casual, the interior is charming and intimate, and is suitable for a quiet dinner for two or group dining. If you've got a specific craving for pizza, I suggest passing on the cafes for a night and giving the masters a try.

I'm afraid that a super-long wait for a fairly basic meal last Friday night has made me downgrade them slightly to 4 stars. I think what has happened is that they are super busy, but just don't have the staff to cope with the orders. The staff who are there are lovely - but they need at least one more in the kitchen, and another on the floor. Oh, and they obviously need a larger pizza oven! What worries me is that they have spent a lot of money on upgrading the verandah area, and have also renovated upstairs - how can they service these extra people??? PS - a very long wait for food with a grumpy 6 year old when the temperatures are soaring outside is not very fun :P

As soon as I took a look at the menu I settled on the chili squid, and decided to get a pumpkin and goats cheese pizza as well. So I'll start off with the best bits. The staff were great, really friendly and really attentive. They seemed happy to do their job, and no one looked like they were counting down till the end of their shift. The place is also a pretty nice venue, it's got a perfect balance between fine and casual dining. I feel like this would be a great place to take the kids to get them used to eating out at nice restaurants. It does feel like it's got that family friendly vibe, but it's bucketloads better than many of the cheap 'family' restaurants out there. The food unfortunately didn't wow me. The squid didn't have enough of a chili kick to it, and there was also what looked like baby octopus in it that I don't remember from the menu. I don't have a problem with octopus (in fact I kind of love it) but I can imagine there would be some people fine with squid, who might be put off my the tiny tentacles. It could just be that I have a poor memory of the menu. The pizza was also fine, but not quite what I was expecting. The base was a little too thick for my liking, and it had a little too much cheese & tomato base. The pizza cheese was so thick that it pulled out into long strands when you picked up a slice, it definitely wasn't the light pizza I was expecting. There also wasn't much of a goats cheese pizza. The main disappointment of the food is that I felt they had such potential. The menu has so much promise, and there were plenty of dishes that sounded great, but the two that I ordered just slightly missed the mark. But it was still a nice place, with a bit of fun thrown into the decor, and I'd be interested to sample a few different dishes on their menu.

The first time I came here I had the smashed avo, the zesty lemon and mint with real Italian olive oil made for a balanced combination. I asked for it Vegan also with no issues. The second time I came here I was feeling a little more adventurous and tried the "papa Al pomodoro" an authentic Italian dish made from focaccia soaked in a tomato pasta sauce with a poached egg and a trendy charcoal cracker (it helps with digestion apparently, yum!), I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised, it was the consistency of gnocchi full of punchy tomato flavour and I actually think the carbon cracker did help my digest. The place over had a great atmosphere with hanging plants and cute photos of the owners family. Me and my husband sat on the communal table and I think he may have even found a new golf buddy.
