Walk out through the kitchen to toilet at the back of the shop and you might trip on a bag of pizza flour on way but don't worry, the lino floors will protect your fall. Enough about the interior, that doesn't really matter. In traditional fashion, the star of the show is the hand made blackened pizza oven sitting in the middle of the shop serving up damn good WOG Pizza. We thought we'd be modest an just order one 12 inch Frutti di Mare (seafood) and a bottle of wine to share (funnily enough sipped out of those promo wine cups that you collect from various wine events and functions over the years). But after devouring this crispy based, sweet tomato sauce covered, melt in your mouth seafood pizza we decided we couldn't stop at one. The Truff Truff was next - a creamy, cheesy base of truffle oil, cheese, dried mediterranean herbs and more cheese. Forget manners, there's no forks or plates here and the owner really couldn't care less if you came in or not. He does what he loves and I think even if there were no customers in store he would be happy. The girls on the floor are friendly but really, who needs to make small talk when all you want to do is finish off 2 large pizzas in 30 minutes and then roll home?

Consequently here we are! I came, I tried it, I came back home... and here I am... The staff are very friendly, and very welcoming when you come in. After ordering, for the first time I was asked if I wanted to add any extra toppings. Seriously, a lot of places offer this service, but rarely are you ever asked about it. You may think it's a small thing, but it stuck in my mind. The wait time felt a little long, but I did go at a busy time. When the pizza arrived it was amazing. The drive home was a hard one, and biting into the pizza, the first thing I noticed was the dough. What did they do to the dough? It's magnificent! Maybe they did nothing, maybe it was supplied to them that way. Either way, it was really good. The toppings were plentiful and the cheese was nice. It's no longer my local pizzeria, however - like a supermassive black hole, the thought of its pizzas is always pulling me towards them. The gravity of these pizzas affects me more the closer I get to Athelstone, however the stellar mass of their tasty bases and flavorous ingredients is always curving space time around them so I am still within their event horizon while at home in the Hills. Our family favourite is the "inferno" which after adding olives and anchovies has what can only be described as the best combination of flavours that have ever been put on a pizza. This is one of those meals that I could safely say I would eat every day for the rest of my life on a desert island with perhaps a few beers to wash it down. The other bonus with DaMario is that it is a family run business, with the same owners who have been there since I can remember, and I've been going there for at least 15 years. They take pride in their work and the standard has been consistent the whole time and will be into the future as the younger generation continue the tradition. Also, DaMario supports local football teams (or soccer, depending on where you grew up) and have Adelaide United and other signed jerseys and posters on display. The only downside to DaMario (for me) is that it's not next door to my house. There is always the option for me to buy a caravan, grow a long beard and wear tissue boxes as slippers and park in the carpark so that I can eat their pizza for every meal, so they can hardly be blamed for that.

Not a dry pizza, but tasty and easy for a meal when you feel less like cooking. Ordering over the phone was easy with the staff here, and pick up was a smooth transition. Parking outside is a bit chaotic. For those who live upstairs and those wanting to use the facilities provided - pizza bar, liquour store. Its a bit like the invitation for a demo derby, with people reversing without looking, or cars parked poorly and causing a back up of traffic. However, if you are aware of this and take your patience with you, you will find its not so bad at all. Will happily partake of the pizza sales from here again, as it was a genuinely tasty experience.
