I have been going to Carmela's to dine since I was young. It's the perfect family, Italian restaurant. It also has a separate room for (somewhat) private dining. Meaning, anytime I have a party larger than 10 people, they always place us in their event room which also has a few other tables so you don't have the room completely to yourself, but it's far enough away that it is a private dining experience. I did this just recently for my son's first birthday with my family members back on the East Coast. It was lovely. I called ahead to make my reservation, and upon arrival they had everything set up perfectly for us. It always amazes me how one server can handle it all, but she did and she was lovely. They have a full bar, delicious Italian menu that boasts of soups, salads, seafood, and pasta dishes of course. They also have delicious desserts so don't eat so much that you fill up on bread and food, save some room for dessert! Prices are reasonable to fine dining, portions are significantly large, you'll definitely have food to bring home. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and personally can't wait to return. read more

We pre ordered for Mother's Day dinner. It was a set menu. We were told a pick up time and pre paid prior to pick up. Union arriving at the set time, we had to wait over half an hour to receive our order, worse still, when we arrived home (a 5 minute drive) everything was very cold. It had been cooked long before. While the salad dressing was good, nothing else was worth the time, money, or stress. I doubt we will return. read more

Carmela's was a very pleasant surprise on our way home to the Cape from a harrowing experience at MGH. We left Route 3 looking for a place for dinner that was non-toxic. We saw Carmela's with a full parking lot. That was our first hint that this was someplace special. Katie F., our server, led us to a booth, distributed menus and took drink orders. We weren't in a party mood, so all we ordered was tea and coffee. Katie also brought out some magnificent crusty bread and spiced EVOO for dipping. My wife ordered a cup of broccoli-cheese soup, which she pronounced delicious. I had a small taste and confirmed her evaluation. Our entrees were baked ziti (hers) and chicken Alfredo (mine). The ziti were baked in a marinara sauce with a lot of Parmesan and mozzarella. It was served with a warning not to touch the inner dish because it just came out of the oven. My entree was chunks of gently fried white meat mixed into a bed of homemade pasta and covered with a wonderfully creamy Alfredo sauce. My wife couldn't finish hers, so we packed and took home more than half. Katie stopped by again to ask if we wanted dessert menus. Not tonight, thank you, we're both stuffed. But we will try your desserts next time. And there will definitely be a next time. read more

My in-laws love this place, so we thought we'd give it a try after getting skunked in a perfect fall day in Plymouth. Must tried: Portobello Bruschetta, Charterie Board. Home made noodles... I never met a noodles I did not like! Lasagna with meatballs inserted, Bolognase with homemade noodles. Plenty of parking, very clean facility. They have a function room. Far enough away from Plymouth that you can get in, yet not crowded at all. read more

I have not been to Carmela's in years but it probably hasn't changed much is my guess. It is part of the family that has Mama Mia's restaurants. That said, I will recommend the pizza which is among the best on the South Shore. Other offerings, not so much. The portions are generous of other offerings, such as, lasagna or parm but the food tastes as if it has been cooked and frozen then heated and served, like my left overs. When I go out to eat and pay a premium price to have someone else prepare it I expect to get freshly cooked food, not left overs. So, my suggestion is the pizza, salads and something like pasta dish offerings like chicken piccata or marsala. read more

I would have never stopped here as it looks like an older, established, boooring place but after seeing these reviews, I had to go. I was accompanied by my 13 year old, junior yelper and we launched straight into entrees. He went with the tortellini and red sauce. Dad opted for the shrimp fra diavolo with the homemade pasta. Our waitress was cheerful and funny in addition to being very attentive to the two dinning divas. I love the fact that they have options for small plates on almost everything. If you want to feast, go forth, but if you're watching what you eat, they got ya covered. So our meals come and we indulge in the sprinkling of shredded parm by our gregarious mesera. The fra sauce was delicious. Clearly built with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection (read: not boiled down to tomato soup). The fresh pasta had a great consistency and flavor. I make my own pasta and there's a big diff between fresh and dry. Indulge yourself and get the good stuff. Tried the kiddos torts and they were good with a blend of cheeses. Red sauce was equally yummy. The little guy got a canoli for dessert (dad stole a bite) and reports very positively. At the end of the meal, he looks at me and says, "4 Stars?". I agree. This was the second time we ate here. I usually don't like to write a review until after three times (well, unless the place is completely horrible and not worth a second try!) but both visits have been almost flawless that I decided to break my rule. The first time we went there, I had veal piccata which was excellent, terrific sauce, veal cooked perfectly, past cooked al dente. The only flaw in the meal was the antipasto salad which felt like something you could get at a fast food pizza place: all the antipasto was rather uninspiring (olives, salami, cold cuts and peppercini that could have been bought at any supermarket) piled on top of iceberg lettuce. Could have made that one at home. Only reason why this review goes from 5 stars to 4 stars. The second time we ate there was this Wednesday, and everything was spectacular. We skipped the appetizers as the meals are rather large. I ordered seafood fro diablo with the home made noodles, which I thought might be taking a risk. However, the home made noodles were pillowy, perfectly cooked and tasty. I appreciated the fact that the waitress asked how spicy I wanted my sauce as I like spicy food and it came out nicely spiced. All the seafood (mussels, calamari and shrimp) were cooked to perfection and there was an abundant amount of everything. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs with Italian sausage, and he was very satisfied with his meal as well. The meatballs were fluffy and well seasoned, as was the sauce. In addition, the wait staff is very attentive and pleasant, the wine selection is sufficient for a wine aficionado like myself and the portions are large enough for next day leftovers. I visited Carmela's this past Saturday evening. The restaurant was very crowded, but after a short wait I was seated. Our server Karen C, could not have been more pleasant. Greeted us with a big smile, and warm personality. She answered all our questions and told us about the specials with enthusiasm, despite the fact that it was so busy. We started off with warm bread and oil which I enjoyed. The group ordered several apps including Mozzarella sticks (crunchy!), Buffalo Mozzarella on Tomatoes (did not try it) and Calamari. The latter was too oily for my taste. Granted, the calamari was deep fried but all I could taste was the oil the it was fried in. I had the Shrimp a la Vodka which consisted of fresh jumbo shrimp sauteed with red peppers and asparagus served over spinach ravioli in a pink vodka sauce. It was good and everyone else seemed pleased with their entrée too. Overall I would say the food is fine. This place is great! I have been to Carmela's about 4 times now - never had a bad experience. Jeff and Paul, the Bartenders are very friendly. They pour a nice glass of Vino, and are quick to refill the sodas when another is needed. Every meal starts with some delicious Olives and Bread. For Entrees I have tried the Swordfish, Eggplant, Chicken and Veal Parm, and the Meatballs. Everything was delicious. Fresh grated cheese and ground pepper are offered - and reccomended. What impressed me above all else was the speed of the service. The Entrees came out with perfect timing. Once the bread was finished our meal was served hot and fresh. The live Lounge Singer is a nice touch. Mostly soft Italian music Sinatra and Deano, but have seen him break into some Neil Diamond. Always gets applause from the dining room. We always frequent Carmella's but today was extremely disappointing! I order eggplant parmigiana, the large portion and got 2 thin pieces. I asked the waiter and he said yes it was small so he went back to the kitchen and came out with 1 small piece. 3 pieces of Eggplant on a dinner menu, I left hungry. My husband order veal parm and he got 2 thick pieces of veal. He order meat sauce on his pasta and they charged him an extra $5.00. Last I checked eggplant goes for $1.99 a pound and veal goes for $11.00 a pound. $5.00 for a ladle of meat sauce, unacceptable! Do yourself a favor and get the chicken Carmela. I can't believe I'm only just discovering it! Hands down the best item on the menu. Stuffed quahogs are also fantastic. No spots at the bar, so we had to stand for a bit so we got a martini, and instead of reaching, Diane literally came out from behind the bar to serve us! She is such a gem!
