Best realtor I have ever worked with in NYC. Was moving back to New York after living abroad, came with paperwork and were intent on applying to at least 3 places in 2 days. We had found 10 apartments that fit our criteria. We only managed to schedule 2 (most realtors did not reply). One "scheduled" an appointment, and when I text to double-confirm the day before showing they ghosted me. It was a breath of fresh air when we met Carmela. She was prompt and responsive. We applied to the first apartment we saw; it was very nice. However, when we met one of the owners, we decided it maybe wasn't a good fit, they were afraid of pet noise and we have a cat, but we had already given our documents (relevant later). Later that day, when we followed up with Carmela, she understood. She showed us two additional places that day, each getting closer to our ideal space. She even preemptively negotiated the rent down on one place on our behalf and picked us up where we had a tight window to see something. She went above and beyond at every stage. The cherry on top, when we applied to our second and final apartment, she had retrieved our initial application documents (without us having asked her to). She was an advocate for us at every step of the way. I will recommend her to everyone I know. An anecdote about dealing with most NYC realtors - an associate of a realtor we messaged text me out of blue without identifying themselves. When I simply asked their name and agency, they didn't respond. You would think it's a scam, but we found out they were real days later I saw a poster with their face and number outside their agency office. They don't have to give you any shred of common courtesy or respect, and most of them won't. They will just show you a place and collect the thousands of dollars in realtor fees. Terrible communication. No response at all after a week and a half of several attempts to see an apartment I was very interested in.

BEWARE!!!! One of the worst experiences I've ever had with CARMELA and KELLY!!!! Where do I begin? Last week I saw a listing I was interested in. I called the phone # listed, the apt. was listed under CARMELA. I called a few times, days went by and nothing! No word from CARMELA.  Since, and only since, I liked the pictures of the apt. I decided to call the actual office of Realty Executives (this Monday). I told the front desk lady my situation and she transferred me to CARMELA'S secretary. The secretary took my information and told me she would get in contact with CARMELA and the super to see if I could go see the apt. Great! I was naive to think I'd actually get a call back.  So on Tuesday, I called and spoke to Christina, told her my situation. She said I could call back on Wednesday after 12pm and speak to KELLY (person in charge of complaints and such).  So today, Wednesday, I called and Christina picked up again and went to transfer my call to KELLY. However,  Christina comes back on the line and says "Kelly knows your situation and suggested I put you thru CARMELA'S secretary to help you". Are you kidding me?  Kelly refused my call!!!! I told Christina the purpose of my call and the importance of speaking with KELLY. Christina was nice at first, even offering me another realtor. But my point was I wanted to address the initial concern with the horrible follow-up and customer satisfaction. Christina became very rude and smart with her comments. I then told her do me a favor and throw out my information,  I want nothing to do with you guys.  Then guess who finally calls me.....CARMELA! Not to apologize and fix things,  rather to interrogate me and try to catch me in a lie. Why?  I wonder if it's because she knew this wasn't the first time ppl have complained about the same situation....I guess she needed to cover her butt. She had the nerve to tell me after I told her when I called, who I spoke to,  and what phone # i called; that it is highly unlikely that this happened. So I just made all this up? I had nothing better to do? Come on!!!! So unprofessional, rude, insulting, and ridiculous. Do your research.....you'll see all the negative reviews on this woman!  I have submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Yes! my experience was that bad!!!! read more

Carmela was the worst experience I've ever had with a realtor. I will tell you why... Let's start with the viewing of the apt. She lies about when the apt is posted. You have to look it up yourself. The application process was 2+ weeks. If you have to move in a month, and the listing says available immediately, 14 days is an extremely long amount of time for a realtor to turn this around. When the contract/lease for the apt was finally available, her and the realtor company (Realtor Executives who you will see posted multiple times on yelp under slight variances in names) were unresponsive as many other yelp reviews have expressed. Furthermore, when she no longer wants to respond to follow up her assistant or daughter will answer and tell you she's on vacation. I would recommend going with a realtor with a better track record of accountability. read more

Unethical- Save your time. Go to Corcoran or Douglas Elliman, all of those brokers are probably way better and more experienced for NYC.

I like Carmela & she helped me look at a bunch of apartments in a number of price ranges in a single day. Was she 30 minutes late meeting the first time in person to a post I saw online? Yes, but she called and was nice about it, so I went back and looked at the co-op building and we struck up a report. We spent a few hours driving around & through it all she was helpful, resourceful, diligent and pleasant. I do feel like I slightly over paid for my apartment compared to some of the research I was able to do afterwards, but it was my choice to select the apartment I did and it's her job to get people like me to pay rent somewhere so they can pay her a brokers fee. Carmela made it easy for me to find an apartment in just two days coming all the way from Portland, Oregon. She also helped me feel welcome moving to Astoria & I appreciated that. My girlfriend and I were looking for an apartment in Astoria, and decided to use Carmela because she had several apartments listed on Craigslist. Now I want to preface this by saying I don't know whether their problems are a reflection of Carmela or her team, but either way our experience with Realty Executives Today was awful. The first time I made an appointment, her assistant called and had to cancel, which would have been fine but she canceled only 20 minutes beforehand. I expect to get more notice for a can celled appointment. For my second appointment, my girlfriend and I got to the office, filled out paperwork, and waited for 45 minutes. Carmela's assistant finally came in and said she can't show the apartment building because it wasn't open after 5 PM. So, you couldn't have figured this out before we got there? What a huge waste of our time! I finally was able to see the apartment. They were not very informative. They didn't know answers to simple questions like what the square footage of the apartment was, or what type of work are they doing in the basement. They claimed that extra storage was being built, but the landlord said that wasn't the case. My girlfriend scheduled her own appointment to see the apartment, and Carmela showed up over 30 minutes late. So unprofessional! In conclusion, dealing with Carmela was a huge waste of our time and a huge disappointment. Unless you're desperate to see a certain apartment that only they are showing, look elsewhere to find your real estate broker. read more

Based on limited interaction, not sure I 'trust' her. She just seems like another typical NYC broker (esp like a Manhattan type). One time I was interested in seeing a house for sale. She said it was 'gone', yet weeks later, still the For Sale sign out front. Another time I called her about a rental apt and same thing...it was 'gone'... Working with Carmela was a great experience. She helped my girlfriend and me find and secure a wonderful new apartment quickly and easily. After seeing a listing she put up on Craigslist on Sunday, she returned our call Monday morning and showed my girlfriend the apartment Monday night. Because I'm often out of town for work, she made herself available to me on her cell phone since I could not meet in person or see the place. We locked things up that Wednesday and couldn't be happier with the apartment! Overall, I'd highly recommend Carmela and her team to anyone looking in the Astoria area. While Carmela was late for each appointment it wasn't so bad to warrent all these super negative reviews I saw. She was patient and kind and had tons of apartments to show me and my roomate. She was always honest and didn't pressure us too much. CArmela was flexible too, showing us apartments almost immediately and even late at night to accomadate our schedules. Carmela and her team are consummate professionals. I work in Real Estate for a large firm in Manhattan, which, for some reason, doesn't cover Astoria. I found Carmela through one of her listings on craigslist. It was from that listing which my fiancee and I were shown a number of different apartments until we found one we both loved. They then were there for us every step of the way with negotiations, paperwork and finally signing our lease! We are so thankful for Carmela and her team, we love our new apartment! read more

Her name is on placards all over Astoria so i presume she is a busy lady but if we have a date at a specific time why make me wait? There are 1000 understandable reasons of why she was late the first time, but as for the second time - that can be attributed only to a lack of respect... Waited over 45min after confirming 4 times that very same day! This is the second time we waited for her for over 20min, thereby the attempt to "remind" her with the pointless confirmations. First impressions mean a lot to me. My wife and I scheduled an appointment to meet with her and we waited 25 minutes before leaving. I saw other reviews mentioning her "lack of punctuality" hopefully she will read these reviews and take notice. Carmela is a nice person when one actually gets to meet her. She's honest and not pushy. However, her lack of timeliness in showing up for an appt leaves something to be desired. If she knows her appts are going to run late, she shouldn't book appts so tightly. Her team is another story. They book my appt with the wrong address and send Carmela there while I am waiting in front of another house. She's already late, and now she's at the wrong house? It never gets corrected b/c her team contacts me later with an updated price on the wrong house. One time we met her in front of another house and she tells us right off the back that the house is in pretty bad condition and we can't even go inside. Then proceeds to push an available house that she has. She couldn't tell us this over the phone and not waste our time? Then there's her email listings - tons of "mistakes" that I am left wondering if it was intentional or not just to hook in buyers. 1) they email us about a hot property house that already had an offer accepted the week before, as if it were new and just listed. It was even from a competing realty. It was a "mistake", really?? 2) They email out another house with an attractive asking price but upon further emails, she tells me it's actually a higher price. It was a "mistake", really?? This leaves me to believe that either her team is really that incompetent, or that it was intentional to reel in customers. BE AWARE. read more

Carmela Vlacich is an extremely professional and friendly Realtor to deal with. She showed my roommates and I several apartments, of varying characteristics, to get a feel of what we were looking for in an apartment. At no point was she pushy or aggressive in persuading us towards a particular apartment. It did seem at certain points that she was a bit busy, but that is understandable in the type of business she works. In the end we were able to sign for the best apartment that suited us. read more

She was very patient with every perspective tenant and especially with me!! As an owner, I was concerned about several issues. She took the time to alleviate my concerns and accommodated my every request. Her smiling face and personality was a joy to see but her knowledge was stupendous. Stay away from her listings. She is a very shady broker. I wanted to purchase one of her listings and it was the worst experience of my life. She tried to extort me for every last dollar to get to the full asking price and then after I met the full asking price she tried to get me to go above. She plays the game that there's a higher offer on the table. Don't make the same mistake I did, stay away!!!! Purchasing a home should be a happy moment in your life but if you deal with this broker I promise it will become the most stressful thing you ever deal with. read more

Working with Carmela was easy and painless...they way finding an apartment should be! I saw the listing on a Sunday night and the following day was shown the apartment. Completing the paperwork to secure my gorgeous apartment was easy and what was great for me is that Carmela's office worked with my schedule. I was able to come in and drop off the finished paperwork and deposit when it was convenient for me. Everyone who I encountered in the office was great and never once did I feel pressured to look at an apartment that was out of my price range or didn't fit my criteria. The fact I was able to secure an apartment in less than 3 days was amazing!! Non-existent agent. I was interested in two apartments listed by Carmela Vlacich. After two weeks and four messages, nobody ever called me back. Not even to follow up. I had three different friends and family members call in case it was my phone, and they didn't receive a reply either. I'm surprised she's even in business. Ot of course stayed on the market for a while & when I checked records it went much lower than asking. Yet when I asked her "negotiable" she said not really. I was recommended to see Carmela by a colleague. She showed me the best places available in Astoria. Very professional, no pressure sales, she was very good in having good places to show. The only thing I would say is that Carmela, like all real estate agents, represents the landlord. If the landlord promised to get x, y ,z renovated, I would put it in writing/email and send it to Carmela as your record. Seen an ad up she had we went to go see it...we loved it she makes us apply sent over application ids all the necessary documents...she tells me will review....for 5 days she kept saying the landlords deciding.....to come back to me on almost the 7th day to tell us the landlord went with someone else..she never ran a credit check so I will say this was a racist decision...you see we are a mixed couple....our income was more then what they ask to make but she never ran the credit check.....drove by the place not to long ago guess what still empty!!! i say if you can avoid her do it....she answers phone calls with her sweet voice and you want to believe she is helping you but she is not she says she is still actively looking "for you" but she never returns calls you need to chase her...she more for the landlords! read more

I had a terrible experience with carmelas team. The first day was great we saw a great apt and the woman was very nice. Then we made another appointment to see more apt and then she never called to confirm. I called twice with no response. Finally I emailed and Carmela emailed me back and we made an apt for a few days later. Once I get to the office, I wait 20 minutes to find out there are no apts to be shown bc the land lord never called them back. I can promise you there are other realtors to go to in Astoria that really help you. read more

This is seriously one of the worst real estate agencies I have ever encountered. The listings they have sell because they are in high demand, not at all because they put any effort into contacting prospective buyers. I have tried so many times to get in touch with Carmela and not once has she had the courtesy to call/email/text back. I attended an open house once and one of her associates rushed me out (after being in the house only five minutes) snapping his fingers at me and telling me to hurry up. Who does that?! I told one of the other associates of his behavior and that person didn't offer any apology whatsoever. I hope to god I don't ever find my dream house and SHE is selling it. read more

I was impressed by her responsiveness to my email and we made an appointment... unfortunately that would be the last thing I was impressed by. We arrived at her office for our scheduled appointment and were left standing around because the receptionist couldn't reach Carmela. We were eventually taken to a conference room to fill out paperwork and we expected that Carmela would join us shortly. However, Carmela would in fact never materialize. Forty-five minutes later, one of the agents who works for her finally came in. He was a least pleasant, though the apartments were mediocre. So all in all it took us over two hours to see two apartments - a complete waste of our time. Do not think that you will get any of the attention or respect that you deserve with her. So many of our friends recommended us to Carmela and her team, that we felt as if it was the only way to go. Our friends were right. They were wonderful. We really got the feeling that they were not going to rest until we were madly in love with our apartment. If we wrinkled our nose even slightly at a place, they wasted no time in trying to talk us into liking it. Her team members would simply look at us with concern, and say "You don't like it?" and before we were even finished shaking our heads no, they were thanking the landlord politely for showing us the apartment, and whisking us away to the next location. We were super picky, and they never made us feel like we were being difficult. We also had a baby with us for all of these outings, and they were so sweet to him, and worked hard to find us a place that felt safe for our 13 month old son. We always felt as if they were on our side. Once we fell madly in love with a place, (finally!), they made sure we got it. Now we could not be happier. While we really like the apartment that Carmela ultimately found for us, the major downside to our experience was in dealing with Carmela. She started by taking us to some really terrible apartments. She misrepresented some very important things - she told us that the landlord did not live in the building, though he actually does, and sold us on the idea of having a barbecue on our balcony, which the landlord would not permit. She was frequently late for meeting us, and she and her secretary would tell discordant lies about why she was late - if you're going to lie, at least get your lies straight. In the end, she also insisted that we pay her in cash. While we are happy with the place she found, she did not make the process an enjoyable one. read more

As other reviewers point out, Carmela's main problem is that she does not meet you on time. The first time she showed up more than 30 minutes, and after talking to me 5 minutes, she took 15 more minutes in her office before leaving to see the place. By the time we arrived, the landlord had left to buy something and was coming an hour later; she should have called the landlord for this. Since I had to see something around there, I came and liked the place. Then she was going to pass by my house to drop the lease, but she never called and had me waiting at my house the whole morning. Later, when I was supposed to pick up the lease which she would leave ready with the secretary, she had me waiting more than 30 minutes to make me go upstairs next to her office, and then more than 15 minutes before we actually talked. So each time I saw her I spent almost an hour waiting. Terrible service. Unfortunately, these realtors get a huge cut thanks to a crapy job and you have to use them because they have the listings, not because of their job, so many realtors in Astoria are like this. read more
