This place was super easy to work with. Went in at 1000 and left at around 1330 with a great car. Honestly, overall - this is likely the easiest transaction I've ever had. I declined the optional coverage, but they give you (per Maryland law) 30 days of warranty on every vehicle, and even hooked me up with some new tires at cost. While the salesman was great with the whole buying process everything turned into a nightmare after I got home my 2015 Ford Escape Titanium. When I went to leave for work the NEXT morning at 6am the car wouldn't recognize the smart key and then I couldn't unlock or lock the car at all with my remote. Carmax had it towed to them and we told the service department that the doors were not locking even if you tried from inside the car. Well today (2 days later) I went to see if my car was still in the same spot & the doors were still unlocked! They also have yet to call us with an idea of when they will look at my car, a car they sold to me that clearly wasn't properly inspected. So for 2 days they knowingly allowed my doors to remain unlocked. I love the car, but I'm within my 5 days and might just have to return it. read more

Purchased a 2012 GMC Terrain (12K Miles) from Carmax White March on Jan 6. Drove the car two days and that Saturday the engine light comes on (Codes P0011 & P0014). Immediately take into Carmax and service was closed until Monday; told they would look at first thing Monday and given loaner car. Monday afternoon, finally got word that they would need to send to GMC dealer for warranty repair first thing Tuesday and should be ready by that evening. Tuesday, still not at GMC for work, now going to take on Wednesday along with having previously scheduled Lo-Jack install performed. Wednesday, Lo-Jack was no-show, not taken to GMC also...Thursday, find after multiple calls that Lo-Jack installed but vehicle still not taken to GMC for repair; promised first thing Friday (priority) and would be called in morning first thing to confirm. No call by 11am, called Carmax and told vehicle at GMC but they can't reach anyone for a status. Contacted GMC dealer myself and told warranty repairs done but cause of issue was extremely low and dirty oil. (Note: we only drove the vehicle about 150 miles between purchase and taking to shop). Very dissatisfied, what happened to the detailed screening of every car sold?? Failure of quality control, failure of follow through and failure of communications...I'm over 50 year old and have bought many vehicles both new and used and have never experienced anything like this. Now at the end of this ordeal, I'll get a 'gee, we're sorry' along with the aggravation and stress this experience has been vs the pleasure purchasing a vehicle should be...Definitely not the way to treat customers! read more

I wouldn't even give them 1 star. I purchased a 2008 VW jetta and had the worst experience. After you sign them papers and they get you're money they do not care about you. I had my car for three months and had to take it to their service department six times. The service department is the worst on customer service I have been hung up on repeatedly by people and been told what's wrong now by their people like it is my fault the only thing I am at fault for is ever buying a car from them. For any one that is car shopping stay FAR FAR away from them, trust me you will regret it, I definitely do. read more

My sales rep, George Hernandez, was phenomenal. But that's where the good review stops. Mechanical problems began five days after I bought the car. The service department is terrible. Two days after I dropped the car at the service department, it took eight phone calls just to find out that they would not begin working on the car for three weeks, and I only received a call from my service rep when I complained to the business department. Three-and-a-half weeks later, when the car was finally returned to me, all of the problems I had reported were still present. When I called my service rep, he never returned my call. I repeatedly left messages with the woman answering the phones (who apparently was hired to scare off business), and left voice mails for my rep and the manager, yet did not get one return call until I left a bad review in an e-mail poll. When I mentioned this to my neighbor, she said she had bought her car there, and the transmission dropped out of it on day 6. I'm done with Carmax. read more

Ordered a BMW for delivery from PA last week for test drive today and the vehicle is still not ready for me to see. Had dealt with 3 different people with NO FOLLOW THROUGH from anyone and have had to micromanage the entire situation, still not to get the BMW and to only get a run around. I've been to CarMax in white marsh 3 times. The first time a gentleman named Carlton Farrington was very helpful and was the reason i came back a second time. The second time, it was barely raining outside and when I came in to test drive a Ford Focus, the gentleman who "helped" me when I walked in told me to go on the lot and find the car myself. I couldn't find the car and decided not to waste my time here if the employee wouldn't offer any help in finding it. This third time I've decided I will never go back to CarMax and definitely will not buy a car here. The same thing happened, I was sent out on the lot to find a Focus on my own. This employee couldn't even find the sense to tell me that they had NONE that were still up for sale. The prices are ridiculous, fees are even worse, and the employees clearly couldn't care less about customers. read more

They guy who was helping us initially disappeared and another agent showed up. When the first guy found out he got angry at us!!!! The prices for the vehicles are much higher 20 - 30% more. I have never had such a great experience buying a car. Considering I have awful credit, I was afraid I was going to get turned down. I actually got a call from Dave saying I was approved for the best rate! I told him what I wanted and he found my dream car, but it was in NY. They actually brought it down to MD for me and within a few days, I was taking a test drive and signing on the dotted line. I got more for my trade in than I thought. Throughly disgusted by their service. I went to buy a car for my son who could only be there on weekends. We picked a car out on a Saturday and put it on hold through next Saturday so my son could shop for insurance. Next Saturday we got there at 1:00 due to the ice storm. they had sold it. I really enjoyed my experience going to this car dealership. Although I went here to purchase my first car; I have been with numerous family members when they went to buy cars and I always felt that the dealer was a bit too aggressive. Here I knew exactly what I wanted and even had a car ship from another CarMax in Florida. The one thing I can say really stood out to me was the fact that the associate helping me really cared about whether I was going to be happy with the purchase. She saw that I was not as excited as I was when I walked in and even pulled me aside to ask if I was truly happy with the car. She even went as far as to tell me that "we" can find another and that I shouldn't feel pressured to buy something today. Who does that? Isn't your salary base on commission? Me not buying a car today was waste all of the time you spent with me today. That just made my decision even clearer and I knew that this was the place I wanted to buy my car. By the way I wasn't bummed because I didn't like my car I was a bummed because I couldn't afford my dream car yet. read more

This place is horrible and I will never buy a other used car from them. I've my truck for 3 years and since the first month after I got it I've had problems of every kind especially with my engine and engine light. Recently my engine went up completely and carmax held my truck for two months refusing to give me a rental while they sent inspector after inspector to try to find a reason why they weren't responsible for it under my warranty. When they couldn't find a reason to say I was responsible they sent the shop a used engine straight out of some other truck. When I got the truck back my ac would not run cool and something was burning so I took it back all to find out the radiator was cracked and they charged me to flush the old coolant out of the engine. I just got the truck back Friday and yesterday I drove it and my ac was still acting up and now the engine is overheating when I drive it so I have to take it back again. If they had just given me a rebuilt engine and not a used this may have saved both of us money and time that I Dont have because I need my truck to get back and forth to dialysis take my son to appointments and run errands for my mom who's on oxygen but Carmax doesn't care about the inconvenience they are too busy cutting corners hoping my warranty runs out first. I can't wait to get rid of this truck because its been in the shop more than I've had it. read more

After finding a Toyota Camry XLE, the car would not start. The salesman jumped the battery in order to drive the car. After driving several other models, we came back to this Toyota, which battery was dead again. I asked the salesman to replace the battery if I purchased the car, which I did. He told me the service dept. told him they "took care of it". The battery went dead again after 2 days of being idle, and I looked under the hood(which I should have done before I left CarMax) and the same old battery was there. Don't trust the service dept at CarMax! What else have I been lied to about? Bad experience for me. read more

I don't even know where to begin with reviewing my wife and my experience with this Carmax.... For the first week after buying our truck here we were recommending them to everyone, but then the headaches started. They did our financing paperwork wrong and had to refinance a week after picking the car up raising the monthly payments and that's just where it begins. The effort to get the car registered and titled took two and a half months because of errors on their part.... They would send us the wrong paperwork, send us the right paperwork signed in the wrong places, send us the right paperwork not signed, had to retitle the truck in their name to get some of it figured out, and then still sent us messed up paperwork again. To make things worse for that 2 and a half months I had to stay on them with two or three phone calls a week and would get told yes we sent that paperwork to you overnight, only to find out that it hadn't been sent. I finally got to the point where I had to ask for tracking numbers because I was getting mislead, or lied to depending on how you want to look at it, too much. When I called and asked to speak to managers I was rerouted through the office phone lines to different offices and people trying to "help" me without letting me talk to the managers on duty and when I was lucky enough to get someone I was all but once brushed off and treated like I wasn't important. The only thing that seemed to motivate them was the fact that I constantly threatened to bring the truck back if they didn't straighten things out. To make matters worse since my wife is in the Army the truck was being titled in another state, and their delays and mishandling of everything resulted in us having to drive for a weekend to show the truck to the tax office in that state because they wanted to check for fraud since Carmax had sent them paperwork with conflicting info, and we had to pay a late fee to register the truck, and needless to say a weekend with missed work on my wife's part plus gas and expenses for the trip weren't cheap. We thought the cooperate commercials gave a great new face to the company, it's just too bad that they don't show that face to the customer when you walk through the doors! read more

After a horrible experience at Nationwide, you can read my review under Nationwide Nissan on yelp, I finally found my dream car at Carmax in White Marsh. The whole experience couldn't have gone better. My salesman, Vohn, was wonderful. I would refer him to anyone. Not the typical pushy kind. Let me take my time. Had him bring a car in from another location not once but twice. Second time was a charm. Exactly what I wanted inside and out. He knew the car from top to bottom and explained everything to me even how service operates. It was a busy Saturday when I actually came with my cashiers check to make the purchase and he was working with someone else at the time but never made me feel like I wasn't being helped or rushed. They don't haggle prices and don't have too, check online, Kelly blue book etc., they are good prices. You have 5 days to return if you change your mind. After getting the car home I noticed light scratches down the sides of my shiny pearly white car and on the hood that I haven't previously seen and they wouldn't wipe off. I was devastated. I called Vohn who told me to call service the next day since they had already closed. He assured me they would take care of it, which they did. When I called, they made an appt for the next day since I had the 5 day return. The service dept was excellent receiving me, told me what the process was and how long. They shuttled me to the mall because it would take a couple hours called me when done and wha-la the car was beautiful, shiny, no scratches they were all gone. I was elated, I really didn't want to return the car but it would have been a deal breaker if they couldn't get them out. Seems like the whole process just got better and better. Two weeks later and I am still loving my car and the whole Carmax experience. After the service Vohn even checked with me to see how it all went. I would definitely purchase my next car from them and you should too. read more

the car I bought came from Pennsylvania. when removing the stickers inside the front window damage was done to the dashboard- 10 cuts into the dashboard. this was a sloppy and hurried job. they should of taken their time and put a protective mat on the dash. when I brought the car to the service department they said nothing could be done to repair the damage. read more

took my 3 year old car here after it died on 95 (ended up being an oxygen sensor) but had a terrible experience with this car max and will never return. Initially bought the car here in 2012, new (nissan). Car gets towed here and first thing they tell me is that they can't look at it (even run diagnostics) until the following week (I should have known then what I was in for). I get a call the next week after they ran diagnostics (total out the door price was ~$1600), I'm definitely not a "car" person but called a few friends that know cars well and they told me that the part carmax had said had "gone bad" didn't match up with the issues I had on 95, so i became very leary. long story short I found out I had purchased an extended warranty directly though nissan when i bought the car and when this carmax was still a nissan dealership. first of all this carmax is no longer a nissan dealer and therefore cannot do warranty work and can technically only do oil changes. so the guy I spoke to in the sservice dept never told me they weren't part of nissan nor did he tell me that he technically couldn;t do the work. so he was going to take advantage and get me to pay the out of pocket cost. i called a nissan dealer closer to my house and he was able to pull up the extended warranty, tell me the part/work is covered under my extended warranty. it arrived yesterday to the dealership and after they ran diagnostics they said the carmax had pulled the wrong codes and if they had fixed what they thought was wrong the car still wouldn't have turned on/worked right. so essentially carmax was taking advantage of pulling a wrong code, not telling me they weren't a dealership any longer and were going to charge me way more than it should have cost (the sensor the nissan dealership fixed, which was the actual correct issue, would have cost $120, without the warranty). I will never buy, service or recommend carmax to anyone ever again. i usually don't write reviews but signed up on yelp and everything just to write this review and hope/make sure no one else has this issue. read more
