I am all about GREAT customer service and I received it from Carmax - thanks to Eric Ashby. I'm sure that's why he is a member of the President's Award Club! I was looking to purchase a vehicle and stumbled across a Toyota Corolla XLE, which I didn't know existed. I originally looked on AutoTraders.com and two were found at Carmax. I called for availability of one at this location and went to see it the next evening. I arrived and was greeted immediately by Eric, who later found out that the vehicle I was coming in to see had been taken. I had inquired about the other XLE at another location and it was available. Eric immediately removed the vehicle from the system and arranged for transfer (which was free). He said that it would be at the Mt. Zion location the next day (Friday). I informed him that I could come in early Saturday morning to see it. He suggested that I explore finance options if I wasn't paying in cash and he provided me with options in about 10 minutes max! I arrived at Carmax on Saturday at 9am and again met with Eric, who was very informative. He gathered the vehicle and necessary items for a test drive. The car drove beautiful for a 2009. As a current Toyota owner, I was sold. I had already reviewed the finance options, therefore, it made the process go much smoother. I drove out of the Carmax shop at about 1pm, which was great. They promptly held and shipped my vehicle to the location in Stockbridge. My wife and I had an appointment and when we showed up they quickly sat us down to find our car. The sales rep couldn't find the stock number for about 10 minutes, so I searched on my phone and found it in about 10 seconds. He went to get the car and pulled up a completely wrong model and color. Thus, he said we could go look for the car ourselves and we found it in about 2 minutes. The car, a BMW convertible, appeared to be in very good condition but did have slight damage on the rear bumper. The sales guy tried to explain that it was probably nothing and not to worry about it. They could "buff it out." We took it for a test drive and it was very nice, but lacked many luxury features it was listed as having. When we returned we pointed those out. The sales guy had us wait for the service department to "buff out the bumper" and check on those features. An hour later, the car bumper looked the exact same and he admitted it didn't have those luxury features. He would contact the sales rep to see if they could adjust the price. After another hour, they were decided to try to help us find another car, but were once again were having trouble getting on the internet to look at carmax.com. We finally decide to leave. They are very friendly, however slightly incompetent and they have no problem wasting your time (about 3 hours) and producing zero results. Later that night I received a text message saying, I had missed my appointment they were going to take the car off of hold. read more

I haven't had my car for a year yet and my 2012 Ford Focus stopped on me while i was on the interstate, I contacted both Carmax and maxcare warranty, they couldn't help me because 1 I have a balance and 2 the maxcare has an amount they can't go over. I'm highly upset and more upset that the car I thought I would have for a couple year all changed in a day. I was told by ford that my engine is bad and I need a new one, I thought Carmax do a full inspection before selling cars. read more

I bought a car from carmax, the car came with a dealership warranty. I also bought an extended warranty from carmax (not good, it was like getting one from a bootleg dealer). I went into carmax dealership to cancel the warranty. I parked my car (the car I bought from carmax) in the service bay. I went inside to talk to someone about cancelling my warranty. A white male came up to the window I was standing at and ask "may I help you". I said yes and told him that I wanted to cancell my carmax extended warranty. The guy told me to go out to my car use my cell phone take a picture of my odometer and email it to him. My car was parked about 40 to 50 feet from where we was standing. I could not believe what I was hearing. I ask him again and he told me again to go take a picture of my odometer and email it to him. I told him the car was just outside the door and I am not going to do that dumb shit. this guy was a fucking idiot. and that wasn't all. I only had the car for about 5 days, putonly about 175 miles on it, so the dealer warranty is still good, the lady at the service desk told me to take the car to another car car dealer to get some repairs done, when their dealership supposed to fix it. A few weeks ago my son and I bought a 2016 Hyundai Sonata at CarMax of Southlake on Mt. Zion Road in Stockbridge GA. Our sales agent was an older gentleman named Jim Lowe. What a nice guy. Low key. Not pushy. So very patient. He was very knowledgeable about the various cars my son wanted to look at and understood what features he needed on the car. He never rushed us to get on to the next customer and was always willing to answer all our questions. (And he even knew the answers and didn't have to go ask someone.) These are attributes that you don't always find with used car salesmen. But Jim was different. CarMax is different. Such a large selection of cars that we found and with low or mid or high mileage. The financial process was painless as well. We went outside to go get his car and found it all washed and cleaned inside. It even had a full tank of gas and a HUGE yellow bow across the hood. Such a nice way to send off the customer. I highly recommend CarMax for your next car buying experience. Also, ask for Jim. read more

If I could leave no stars I would! My husband recently purchased a vehicle from this location and the whole experience was horrible and very stressful! To start off the sales agent was very pushy and acted as if we were holding him up for something more important, he never walked my husband out to show him the vehicle only showed him online something we could have done. About a month later the transmission started to slip or have problems, we took it back and they had the car a few days shy of a month but the car is still having the same problem!!!! The only option they gave was to trade it in, put down another deposit and do another credit check, that's B.S! The stress and frustration caused is out of this world it makes no sense I will be going to the BBB with this. read more

I called local tag/title office after 3 weeks to see if in system. Nope. Looks like CarMax was going to let me fine out the hard way. Still not resolved. I had a feeling I needed to stay away from Carmax but I went anyway. They are no different than buy here pay here. My salesman didn't care about showing me vehicles that fit my need. Then he kept leaving me to help another person find a car. IN THE MIDDLE OF ME PURCHASING. He was literally running across the lot. Then on top of all that he let me leave without my tag assuring me that he would get it to me. I specifically told him before we finished the paperwork that I wanted to leave with my tag but he claimed he couldn't get it off. Then instead of leaving it in the business office, he or someone else just threw it away. Now I have to pay for and buy a new one. So ANNOYED. Then on top of all that I've already had issues with the car. The shift to park message comes up even when I'm in park and I cannot turn the car off. Then there has been a couple times where the car has started and cut off on its own. Then, my tire pressure is low for some reason even though they told me I had all new tires. It hasn't even been 30 days and I barely drive it because I work from home. What's going to happen when I go back to work!? Very dissatisfied. That's a lot of issues for $25k. read more

Where do I start, maybe with the lawsuit. I just started the process today. Long story short, go elsewhere. CarMax is scamming and they are in cahoots with Aamco in McDonough (the transmission service people). They are passing people around for the money using useless transmission warranties that they don't honor. Within a month of me buying the car the transmission was toast. It was replaced with Aamco, a used transmission. Less than 60 days later here I am with Aamco refusing to fix the transmission and CarMax saying they don't care and it's nothing they can do. Aamco called me to talk about my brakes. So, today I've spoken with my lawyer already and he has started the paperwork. I will not be picking up the vehicle as I was advised not to. I was sold trash so they can take the trash out themselves. Remember people will do anything to get your business and nothing to keep it. Run from carmax. They are trash. read more

I bought my 2010 Volkswagen CC from CarMax in January of 2013... The buying experience was great and the warranty as well - 100,000 miles. I drive quite a bit to/from work and at 75,000 miles my water pump went out. This was over the summer of 2015 - I don't remember the exact dates. My husband spoke to them and took the car up there. The first week they pretty much argued that what my husband was telling them was wrong - the water pump, was not the problem. My husband works on cars and has for years -he knows what he is talking about. After wasting time - they finally figure out it WAS the water pump. I think they ended up having my car for over a month - stating they were waiting for the parts to come in, etc... Then the temperature housing or something like that, attached to the water pump, was also broken. So they had to wait for that to come in too... I get the car back FINALLY! and there was GREASE inside my car - on my steering wheel and on various knobs. At 102,000 miles... my car starts leaking (more like streaming) coolant. My husband looks at it and IT IS THE WATER PUMP... When he took it apart... the OLD water pump was still on - NOTHING WAS REPLACED! They had ripped a wire that connected it and TAPED IT UP WITH BLACK ELECTRICAL TAPE. I will NEVER, EVER buy another car from this place. This is completely wrong... and I had to pay the $500 deductible, which PAID FOR WHAT??? We spent a total of $200 MAX on the new pump and parts... BS CarMax... SHAME ON YOU! read more

Professional, Hassle-free, and provide you ample details regarding your car of interest. The only issue that I had was lack of communication between myself and the sales rep. I won't name him because at the end of the day business is business and I got what I wanted so all is going. The issue came when I decided to trade my '14 Buick Encore (which I loved) in for a larger vehicle with a 3rd row seat. Because I didn't necessarily like large SUVs, I was a little hesitant and wanted to make the right choice for me and my family. Due to my husband's off days, I wanted to have two cars shipped so that we could determine together which one would be better for our needs. One was a '13 Nissan Pathfinder and the other was a '11 Acura MDX. Both were immaculate with low miles and and all the things we desired. After the Nissan was shipped, I communicated to the rep that I wasn't sure and wanted to see Acura as well and would bring my husband to view them when he was off because I don't make big decisions without us agreeing on it...period. Both cars were shipped. A few days later we went to view the vehicles. When we got in, we saw the rep but he was kind of acting standoffish. I asked I'd we could see the Acura and he said it wasn't in yet. So I asked if we could see the Nissan and he said that it was in the process of being sold. Wait? what? I was the one who requested it to be shipped and you sold it without even calling me to inform me? I was upset because we had been researching cars for a month or so and had narrowed it down to the price, color and everything. So we asked to see it. We did and of course it was the one my husband loved it and surprisingly so did I. Again, low miles, immaculate, felt like it would be a fair trade for what I was trading in for a slightly older car. The rep said there was nothing that he could do and was very nonchalant as if he didn't want to deal with us. At this point I found a manager, discussed the issue of communication and explained why I wanted to see the two cars and didn't want to make sure a major decision without his input. She completely understood and called the rep in to hear both of our sides, which didn't conflict. It was just all about communication. Instead of telling me that for business purposes he couldn't hold two cars for one customer, he put the Nissan up for sale. Since the car was still there, I asked if its sold, why is it still here? The manager didn't know why either. The rep stated that the person was going to come in the next day to sign the papers. So I said, then, it's not really sold then huh. After talking to the manager, our application had already been approved days prior, she asked the rep the keys so we could take it for a drive. He looked hesitant but didn't undermine the manager. We drove it. It was comfortable, wasn't too large for me to maneuver, eventhough it was twice the size and would be great for family vacations and travel. She asked us if we wanted the car and we said yes. Shortly after we signed the papers, traded our vehicle and it was done. The other caveat is that if you are a stickler about your FICO score as I am be aware that when they run your financing instead of dealing with one finance company, they farm your finance request to several banks to see who will agree to the terms you desire. If you are looking at two cars, they the application is run twice. Again this was not communicated and I wouldn't have done it had I known. These are hard inquiries and will affect your credit score. It dropped my FICO score tremendously. I disputed the massive inquiries and since it was done within the same time period they drop the 2O!!!! inquiries to one inquiry. After a few weeks my FICO score was back up to where it needs to be. Good credit is major, so watch out for those things! All in all, great car, great warranty and no issues! This place is a joke. I set an appointment to go test drive a vehicle, drove 30 minutes in the pouring rain and arrived 15 minutes early. The rep I was supposed to meet was no where to be found and showed up 30 minutes late after I had to ask 3 different carmax employees to find him. When they finally found him he said he was too busy to help me. He passed me off to a senior citizen who was astonishingly unhelpful. He told me that I needed a GA drivers license to purchase a car from Carmax and that there was no point test driving a vehicle if I couldn't buy it today. Instead of arguing I left, like any reasonable consumer would do. Avoid this "dealership" at ALL costs. It's a big waste of time. read more

There was a ding in the windshield from a rock so they sent someone out to change my windshield the next week. April 27, 2016 I drove close to an hour Stockbridge/Southlake's Carmax because I spotted the vehicle I wanted via CarGuru.com. Met with a female salewoman who I phone ahead of time to let her know I was coming and the type of automobile I had my eye on. When I arrived we went on a test drive with the usual sales pitch. But are ready for this, while she was dealing with me she was handling personal issues which was easy to hear. At the end of the drive I expressed my decision to purchase it once a minor cosometic item was handled. The plan was to pickup the car the next day. I left with a Buyer's Order to give my lending officer for a check in return. April 28, 2016 After 1pm the saleswoman called me and stated "...I don't know how to tell you this but the vehicle has been transported to Columbus, GA. Someone dropped the ball. I'm so sorry..." Needless to say I was VERY upset. She tried to console me by mentioning another car would be transferred to the Southlake store that I can purchase. A-W-F-U-L!! This saleswoman or Manager did not look out after my interest and offered nothing for my inconveniences. I asked if the vehicle could be transferred near me to another CarMax and she said it could not, lied, which I knew it was not true. I did receive a prompt and courteous reply from a responsible GM after I emailed him. He stated "...first let me apologize for the horrific service you received at my store. I was informed on Thursday around 2pm from [saleswoman]. I have address the manager that dropped the ball. I would like to know which[person] you are referring to that told you they could not transfer the car to...? I would ask for another chance to earn your business but it looks like you bought elsewhere. Purchased a car via home delivery. The young ladies were very pleasant; however was given the option of adding MaxCare within the first week of purchase by four different CarMax personnel. Followed up in a few days in attempt to add MaxCare and was then told that this option was not available. No attempt at service recovery was made. Very disappointed. The dealership that claims that it takes the stress out of buying a car because there's no hassling needed. The prices listed are the prices the cars are sold for. Frankly that's a horribly crappy way of doing things, one of the biggest thrills of going to a car dealership is squeezing out as much as possible from the dealer and coming out feeling like you've conquered Mt. Everest. This place also values trade-ins and is able to have any car from any other Carmax shipped to this location which is a plus I suppose. read more

I would've given a half a star or a third of I could've. I made an appointment online that didn't show up for some reason in their system until I was already about to test drive the vehicle. I walked to the counter and the guy at the desk, manager asked for my information and I have it to him like 3 times. After the second he could've offered an alternative. Then when I said let's try it another way, he just asked another girl that was on her phone to help me. Then I had to give her my information again and I even showed her my phone email from carmax. She was not very welcoming nor made good eye contact. She was also chewing gum which I find to be unprofessional. Then we went out to the car and she took us to the wrong car and then was upset about it but I clearly said MKZ not whatever she heard. Once we were in the car, no conversation at all... Nothing about the car, zip, nada. I've purchased from Carmax before but that location has some serious issues. Needless to say, I didn't buy my car from there. read more

I love the convenience but I hate getting my car serviced here. Not too mention carmax has the worse service plan and customer service. However I will just focus on the service experience. They are always booked however they claim to be so convenient for drop offs. They advertise drop off and transportation at 7:30 am. I literally work up the street so this sounded like a great idea. Wellllll apparently transportation doesn't start at 7:30. Mornings are clearly not good for the staff they currently have. No one says hello or even offers the smallest greeting. Now I could understand this if it was busy. However I figured two employees having a personal conversation wouldn't take precedence over a customer. Well I was wrong. They literally just looked at me as though I was interrupting them. To put the topping on the cake they were rude once I stated I had an appointment. After waiting I finally got a ride to work. Moral of the story is never buy a car or service plan from carmax. read more

This is my family's fourth experience shopping at Carmax Southlake and it was nothing but the best. We were greeted by "Tall Terry" who greeted us with a huge smile and a nice handshake. He took us on a couple of test drives and was so easy to talk to through the four hours that we were there. Our process took a little longer because we had our car appraised so we could apply the equity into our new loan. I never felt like he was ever trying to sell us anything and he was by no means ever, ever pushy. He just talked to us like a normal person and answered all of our questions and was very helpful. The last car we bought from Carmax, a Ford Explorer 2013 came to us without heat working on the passenger side. Once it began to get cold we realized this and of course it was after the 30 day period and they would not help. We had to pay $387.33 to get the door actuator in the right side working again. Check your vehicle very carefully!!! We also had to replace the wind shield wiper motor because the wind shield wipers wouldn't stop. Also after 30 days. The amount of time that it took to get a car from them is ridiculous. It took an entire day...one thing after another. They would apologize but it still doesn't matter, we were stuck until they were done. We have 3 kids and really did not want to spend our weekend in Carmax. Not going back. read more

I will absolutely be buying my next car from Carmax and Jim- and recommend everyone I know to do so as well. I cannot say enough good things about my experience here. I went to multiple dealerships before visiting and was unhappy with their level of professionalism and felt pressured. This was not the case at Carmax. Had a problem within the first week with the Alternator in the car. The sales rep was pretty good and the transportation of the car to the lot (Southlake) was really good. But, the service department! Worst thing I ever seen--The wanted to take three weeks to look at my car--Since I didn't have an appointment, they couldn't look at my car until then--three weeks just for them to look at it. Had to call the Corporate Office on them, just to look at my car and to replaced the Alternator--Bad bad Service.... read more

Please note that this review is not in direct reference to this location, although I did purchase from there. I'm forced to write this, here, as there is not a place to review the company, as a whole. I took my car payment off auto pay prior to the scheduled payment date. However, my account was charged, anyway, and put me in the negative. This then incurred an overdraft fee with my bank. Calls to customer service on 3/20/2019 yielded little assistance, as I had been told that it would be handled within 3-5 business days, only to have an e-mail sent to me, stating that it had only just been processed on 3/22/2019 would take 5-7 business days to get my money back. All the while, I'm in the negative, with absolutely no money, whatsoever, until I either get paid or they finally process my refund. I do not appreciate being lied to by customer service representatives, nor do I appreciate the fact that, during this entire ordeal and over multiple calls to the customer service department, I have not received one apology for the error and my subsequent financial distress. I will never, ever buy another car from CarMax, again, nor shall I recommend CarMax to anyone. This entire situation is disgraceful. read more

I bought a car about 2 months ago from them. I'd have to say it was a pleasant customer service experience, but the car has had some major issues after I bought this. Oil needs to be replaced, "which is easy" two new front brakes, because they are not safe to drive with, mount replaced and belts replaced in the car. This is all to be safe on the road. I don't even want to imagine what else needs to be fixed. I'm not a complainer, but i'm spending most of my time at the car dealership and carmax to get my car fixed and serviced. My days off are no longer days off of running erronds, my days off are going to carmax or the dealership to get this car fixed. I would say if you are looking for great customer service while you buy the car, then come here. So...I went down to pick up the used car and take it to my own mechanic - to have it checked out before buying it. This is the same process i have followed for every car purchase, right? Well, low and behold - you cannot take a used car from their lot to have your mechanic look at it...no no. You must purchase the vehicle...then if you find something you don't like on it, well then you return it. Then i was also told, why do you need to have a mechanic look at it?
