I dealt with Branden who was friendly and professional. The store itself was clean and inviting. In around 25 minutes I had an appraisal in my hand for more than I expected. The only thing necessary was to sign over the title. However I was not prepared yet. I would recommend them for the sale of your car or a purchase from their lot. This location will try and scam you!! Tried to trade in my car they claimed loose dirt on top of the carpet was evidence of "Major Flooding Damage" and proceeded to knock a ton out of the quote, but they don't normally do this for everyone they said... After I complained that their evidence was ridiculous they said I could get it inspected to prove otherwise and they would honor their quote. Got a shop inspection they said in an absolute twist of events that shockingly it was a clump of dirt on top of carpet like everyone could see. Took it back to CarMax and they knocked $1,000 off because in that week the value had "depreciated". Went with a competitor instead stay away from these people who make a living stealing from others!! read more

Sold my car to carmax. The price they offered was higher than what the dealer was offering on a trade in and the sale process went very smoothly. Would have given a 5 star review if they would have told me that it will take them 15 days to payoff the outstanding loan and I need to make any payments that come due between the sale date and the payoff date. If I wouldn't have checked with the lender I would have been hit with a late charge. Now I have to figure out how to get the over payment back when they do finally payoff the loan. When I went to purchase a 2022 Honda Pilot, I was repeatedly told about the great 125-point inspection. However, upon inspecting the vehicle, I found that all four tires had lock lug nuts. I was then told the vehicle didn't have the key. When I questioned the inspection, since the tires had to be removed, I was initially told the mechanic had a tool to remove them. When I asked to see the tool, they then said they didn't have one. After several changing stories, I was finally told the original lug nut key had been lost. I call that BS. read more

We had a PHENOMENAL experience at Carmax. After selling our old car here a couple months ago (and getting a better-than-expected price), we were lured away by marketing for an online-only national chain dealership that...shall remain nameless. After a terrible experience where our van was delayed multiple times with no explanation, and struggling to speak with anyone who could help, we finally cancelled our order and came back to Carmax. SO GLAD we did. The communication was top notch. We received updates every step of the way. We could speak to real people on the phone, who were all very helpful. One gentleman bent over backwards to help us when we realized we didn't have the right payment method ready to go for pickup, and helped us find a solution. Onsite, the pickup appointment went so quickly and smoothly, and Mel was way more friendly than you'd expect for 8:30pm! He was incredibly attentive and helpful, and after such a long journey trying to get a van for our growing family, his kindness was so deeply appreciated. Beyond our customer service experience, the car was in great shape, as described--clean, smelled nice. The process was so simple. 4/25 I called spoke to Pat and told them I just bought the vehicle 3 days ago and needed service. Was told I could get it in 5/1/23 as they only had one technician. I stated I needed a rental or loaner vehicle. I was told that the manager needed to approve this and they would call back and let me know. I never call a return call. Instead I called again on 4/28/23. (Now this note is apparently gone according to Mike) 4/28 carmax several times and was hung up on several times. I spoke to Mike in service and he refused to get a manager on the phone. He suggested I call St charles to get my vehicle in is if you were to look at your schedule, but then ended up, transferring me back to the operator this me and argued with me and told me I do not know what I was talking about and refuse me to do anything help. I then called carmax back and spoke to someone at corporate who got the service manager on the phone as the St. Louis location. The service manager, Ryan, was me telling me it was a break pad issue or rotors when I explained several times exactly what the problem was. He then told me now they couldn't get my vehicle in until 5/8/23 even though I was previously told 5/1/23. Ryan also said he found it very shocking that Mike was rude to me on the phone because he's one of his best guys. I did not matter what I said Ryan did not believe me and kept reiterating that Mike is not like that. 5/1/23 I dropped off my car with the service manager, and I was told that my vehicle will be ready on 5/8. My husband also told the service manager that he was a master technician for Toyota for 10 years and showed him and told him exactly what the problem was. The manager had absolutely nothing to say to my husband even though he was calling me a liar on the phone and telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. 5/8/23 at 214pm call Carmax and spoke to service. I was told Josh had called on Friday and give an authorization for Toyota to do the repairs on my phone. I was also told they left messages with Toyota to find out when my vehicle would be completed, and I was told that Toyota was not returning their calls. 5/8/23 at 243 I was told by Toyota,I spoke to Donovan, that they have not received authorization and they were waiting on that from Carmax. 5/8/23 I called carmax and spoke to pat told him what Toyota said then I was transferred to Mike. Mike said he's not sure why Toyota told me they never gave approval. I was also never told my vehicle is being sent to Toyota and I asked why I was never communicated this and again Mike had no answers. 5/10 Finally got my car. Manager at carmax tried to portray it as if they sent it to Toyota for my convenience but this was not the case as they did not have the items needed for my car. Almost 2 weeks without my car in a 30 day warranty situation. Not happy with the treatment I received. Anytime my husband was with me I was treated completely different. read more

I was a little nervous about being inside of a venue during these oh-so-fun-Covid-times, but CarMax really did make sure things were done properly. Chairs and desks were spaced out, everyone wore a mask, and there was great signage all around. I went to go sell a car and it was a really smooth process. I was very impressed! Once you checked in, your name was on a TV showing you your place in line. Throughout your entire process, your name on the screen would get updated. I appreciated that they didn't need to be inside of my car until I was ready to sell. After I got my quote, it was really easy to move forward with the process. They explained everything clearly and were considerate throughout the process. If you need to sell a car, I highly recommend checking them out! I can't talk to the buying process, but people seemed to be leaving excited. read more

I paid $199 to have a car transferred to the South Lindberg location so I could check it out and, potentially, buy it. I waited well over the week they said it would arrive, with no explanation and no one could tell me what the problem was. I had been watching the CarMax site for a while until a car came up with all the features I wanted and the price and mileage was right. This was it! When I was finally contacted that it was available for a test drive, I went right over. The ride was fine and as I was about to exit the vehicle to sign papers, I thought I would check out all the features and one that I REALLY wanted, heated seats, wasn't working. It made me wonder what other things weren't right with the car. I discussed this with my salesperson and he said it could be repaired in a month. Instead, I asked for a refund of my $199 transfer fee. It was approved so I was happy with that but disappointed that things didn't go right, though much more could have gone wrong. read more

They don't always get it's right from the start, but with 24 hour test drives, 30 day returns and 90 day warranties (plus you can purchase Maxcare) if you get stuck with a negative experience, you simply didn't do your homework. read more

Don't believe them. I had a car shipped in from another location. When I went to see the car there was a significant scratch that was not in the photos. That was only the beginning! I went through their pre-approval process. I uploaded all requested documents. I spoke with them twice prior to taking delivery and was told unequivocally that everything was set. I arrived to find the scratch. I could work around that. They then said that I had to have the car that I had not purchased listed on my current insurance. It was the weekend I could not do that. Also at the time owned a car purchases from Carmax that was listed. In my many many car purchases I have never been asked for this. I own my own business, I insure my car on my company policy. Monday came around and I arranged to get the car listed. Then they came back saying my commercial coverage was not acceptable. I would have to buy a separate personal policy. They then asked for additional financials. Keep in mind, I was pre-approved! I walked away!! read more

He refunded our $200 transfer fee, confirmed the oil had recently been changed, replaced our damaged rear floor mats, reimbursed the cost of a $35 interior/exterior carwash, and provided a detailed explanation for and offered to improve paint repair. She was rude and had no personality or was having a bad day. Either way she doesn't belong in sales for any capacity as this is what I do and have done for my entire life and it's my job to know talent. It was unreal on how I was treated and when I called back to share my concerns no one ever answered again. I wanted to let the manager know and have him help me with shipping of the car to their Cali location ( which they did before for me ) but no one cared. What a fantastic experience! I really dont think I will ever buy a car anywhere else again. Found the car I wanted via their website, which was located out of state. I filled out an application online to have the car shipped to St Louis so I could test drive it. I was promptly reached out to to iron out some details, talk about finance options if I buy, warranty options, and to finalize moving the car to St Louis. What I found super helpful, is the ability to text them at anytime with questions or concerns. I was told the car would be here in 14 days, and received email updates when it actually shipped and when it arrived. It did in fact arrive on day 14 as promised, and I received a text to schedule a test drive. Fantastic communication through the whole process. The experience at the actual dealer, was just as awesome. Diana was my sales rep, and she was phenomenal as was the rest of the staff in helping with the process. Everyone was super friendly, and I never felt pressured at all. I was trading in my old vehicle, and by the time I got back from my test drive they had an offer prepared. I was shocked...they were actually offering me about 1k more than I expected to get. Clearly, they are very fair in there appraisals. We hit a snag finalizing everything, but the whole team was super helpful in working past it. This is was literally the quickest car buying experience I've ever had. From the time I walked in to test drive, to the time I walked out was only 2 hours (and that included my 20 minute drive). Kudos to Carmax on Lindbergh. You have a customer for life. read more

I bought a car from them back in December. When we left with the car I noticed one of the tires was losing pressure 1 or 2 below the rest. when I asked my husband to check it out, the tire pressure was a different number than what my car said so we ignored it thinking the sensor was bad. One month later, the pressure was now saying 15 when it's supposed to be at 45. I knew something was wrong so I took it to a tire place. They informed me that there was 2 pieces of metal in the tire that had clearly been in there for a while. The reason we didn't figure out was because the sensors had been switched. The piece of metal had been in the tire before we bought it and nothing was said. Then when we went to go get our oil changed the screw had been stripped and cost us $60 to fix it. Be in mind that we were told this car was in excellent condition and nothing wrong with it. After finding out all this, either A they knew about all these things and sold the car to us without informing us of these problems. Or B they didn't really look over the car and their promise that it's above "carmax standards" is a lie. I would avoid this place like the corona virus! You will get screwed over! read more

I recently bought a BMW at this location after my previous car had major troubles, and they made the process very seamless. They never push for a sale and always try to give you the car that most suits your needs. I really have to hand it to them for their service center. I called a few days ago to make an appointment and they immediately knew who I was based on my phone number. They were extremely cordial and friendly. When I arrived a bit early, someone came outside to greet me and promptly start my appointment. They noticed that my tire pressure as well as my windshield wiper fluid were low and they immediately noted it and said they would take care of the issue without additional charge. After dealing with many lackluster car service locations, this experience has been an absolute breath of fresh air. read more

I went here because I was referred by a friend who bought a car about a year ago from them. I had made an appointment, with a man named Rich, over the phone. When I arrived though, I was told I would be working with Ethan. Sadly, I didn't feel it was a good match at all. From the beginning, he seemed nice. He walked me out to the lot to show me a couple vehicles, but as soon as we got outside, he said he needed my license and insurance if I wanted to test drive. I gave it to him and he went back in to make copies. I stood there for a good 10 minutes. The whole time wondering, why didn't he offer me some water, or a place to sit and wait instead of just deserting me right outside the door. Anyway, he came back. We took a pilot for a test drive. It was extremely uncomfortable because I felt like I was being given my drivers test. He told me things like, put your blinker on now and get into the right lane, etc. I informed him I was familiar with the area, hoping this would deter him from such detailed instructions. No such luck. I didn't feel like I even got to see if I liked the car because I was more focused on that. When we got back, I was hoping to test drive at least one other car, as I was trying to narrow down whether I wanted a car or SUV, so comparison would have been nice. No such luck there either. He said "you can test drive all day, but we need to go inside and narrow down what you can get." I realize that obviously what you can afford is half the struggle, but he was well aware I wanted to compare a few vehicles, and I didn't feel like I was able to. He pulled up some cars on his computer, but went thru the them so fast it was ridiculous. I told him (from which ones I could see as he was flying through them) which ones I didn't like. He narrowed it down for me and basically said "looks like you're going with the Acura TL. Gee, thanks. Maybe I would have been excited if I actually was given any sort of information at all about that kind of car or allowed to at least look at one in person. I hightailed it out of there as fast as I could. Horrible experience. I was so frustrated when I left, I almost just ended my search at dealerships there. Luckily, I took a deep breath and went across the street, found exactly what I wanted...a pilot, for a great price and great customer service (see my review of mungenast). To think, CarMax almost ruined the whole experience for me. Only reason they get 2 stars is because the guy Rich was nice on the phone. read more

I have done business with CarMax in the past, which is why I returned, Much to my surprise, this experience was much different. In lieu of their "no haggle" pricing, the salesperson entered into a conversation about fees and taxes beyond the sticker price of the vehicle. As we were already stretching our budget, we reached an agreement about compensation for taxes on the vehicle, however, when the time came to cash in on that agreement, they completely took back everything that was said. Now, we are ending up spending more money on the vehicle than we had budgeted for, which would've sent us walking had this been the final number at the time of the sale. CarMax is inconsistent when it comes to their "no haggle" pricing and it comes at the expense of their customers when implied promises and verbal agreements are used as tactics to sell vehicles. read more

My mother has bought through Carmax in the past, and I am currently attempting to purchase my second vehicle through them. My first experience was incredible and I never wanted to shop elsewhere; however, the amount of time it has taken me to receive my car after having paid a transfer fee and jumped through various hoops is beyond me. They seem completely unorganized at this point and the staff seem equally as embarrassed to be a part of the company. If there was a rating below zero in this review, to be honest, I would give them a few minus stars. Preston, the salesman I worked with, did everything to serve me to make me happy, even save the car, while I go home and once again I think. We all know that used cars today are almost as valuable as new, so that meant a lot to me. That would be all about the positive experience. The problem arises when we were told that night over the phone that when completing the paperwork, they left our payment for the car in an envelope with the documents they gave us. Instead of saying, we will come for it, I was told to bring it tomorrow. During the takeover of the car, there was an obvious scratch on the left rear fender, with large scratches, and a door for the gas tank that cannot be closed (even today). The car smelled so much tobacco, that in just two days of driving I got poisoning from inhaling air from the cabin. Although I asked the day before to clean with a device that costs an ozone generator, it was not done. They just dropped that bomb that smells in a few hours, and thus deceives the driver. It was done very well thought out, while we were signing the papers, so the car smelled like a botanical garden, only for a day. On this to continue with the fact that the service did not even fill the container with windshield fluid, which was left empty. It was hard for me to believe that a company that is proud of its business model is not able to fix it, and to change the oil in the engine, which is at 60%, and not totally changed, along with the filter. To this, I would add that they have ripped apart a set of wheels and so the vehicle now has different tires. Since we live in the world of service, where everyone should try to provide the best possible service, CarMax has proved to me that apart from a nice showing space, nothing else is nice, high quality, and professional. read more

I wanted a Volvo XC 60 ---The sales person found one on their website. - It was over $500 for it to be transported ---Online the mileage said 40,000 miles. -ACTUAL MILES 62,000 . I was told that it was not enough miles to change the price of the car and they had me sign a mileage waiver. ---The fee for transporting the vehicle is not refundable (even if mileage is incorrect) -The bumper was damaged when transporting. CarMax had it repainted and paint has failed three times. ---"maxCare" is an expensive joke. Read the reviews online. It is not worth The expense. Most things are not covered. -in-house financing at Carmax 10% ---refinance through Bank 1.99% Conclusion -There are many more issues that I could add to this review. I purchased a 2010 335i with the M-Sport package and couldn't be more pleased. I was very particular about what I was looking for, but with their inventory of about 1,500 pre-owned BMWs across the country, I was able to select one with the exact options I wanted. The whole CarMax experience from selling my old car to finding the new one was a smooth, streamlined process. This is the best dealership I have visited, ever. No pressure, straight-forward, respectful and pretty decent pricing. I only have 2 complaints and it does not reflect on the people who helped me, since I am sure my issues are due to CarMax policies, regardless of location/salespersons. Complaint #1: The price they gave me for my appraisal/trade-in was very low. They do not go by KBB and that is really disappointing. Their offer was over $1000 less than KBB, so I am not sure how they justify that. There's no haggling or negotiating, so I didn't even try to do so. I simply let them know it was much lower than I thought it should be and they gave their reasoning as to why that was the case. Complaint #2: The way they do their financing is they have you try to get financed for a specific car. In my case, I just wanted something affordable and had almost no other requirements. Since they had dozens of cars that met this requirement, I wasn't happy having to "pick my favorite" and see if I *cross my fingers* could get financed. Not surprising, they weren't able to finance me with that choice. It seems to me it would be much more efficient to gather my info and see how much of a loan and at what percentage rate they could finance me, rather than pick a random car, see if I qualify, get turned down, move onto the next. It's a waste of time and it makes you feel really disappointed. Needless to say, it didn't end up working out. When I am in a better position financially (a better "risk"), I will definitely consider going back, because I felt "safe"...unlike some other dealerships that made me want to run the other way (drive-time, I'm talking about YOU). Maybe they will see this and tweek their financing policies (probably not, I know), but that would be nice. All the staff was very polite and friendly. read more

When I visited their lot, I was just beginning my car shopping, and wanted to see what they had, and what they'd offer for my trade. The salesperson I met, Scott was very professional, polite & friendly. When advertised as a new way to buy a car, it really is. There is no haggling over the price of their car or the trade. Their offer was right in line with KBB. No high pressure sales tactics. I test drove the car by myself. He presented their offer which is good for 7 days. He gave me his personal cell number, and didn't call me unless I called with questions. I had their app, and was using it to track several cars of interest. Several times a car on my saved list would show up as sold so I would delete from my list. Then the next day, it would be back on for sale. I guess they have a good number of deals fall through, or there is something wrong with their app. I certainly would consider giving Carmax another try, hopefully not too soon, and would refer them to others. read more

Ordered a car back in August, said it would be here and ready on 9/10. Heard nothing from them, so I went by the dealership; salesman Sam didn't even know if the car was on their lot. Then goes on to say, car needs some work which should take a couple days, they'll let me know when it's ready. Ok, fine. Week goes by, now the seat button is broke and they need to order a part which is same day installation. I ask to see car in person and notice more body damage than disclosed (looked like mirror had been knocked of and repaired because glue was still tacky).
