We were standing outside next to the take a pic section were vehicles were donned with large yellow bows awaiting to meet their new owners. Do not buy any car from them. They don't go by the blue book price. They sold us a car double what it was worth. Weeks later put $10k to fix a new car. Kept breaking down. 2 weeks ago $4k and now I need to put in a new engine. Here is the thing. The car had low mileage never been in an accident and keeps breaking down and we are under water because of them. We haven't even driven the car over 30k miles from when we bought it! Don't do it. Don't go here. Just take your money and buy a used or brand new Toyota.to add insult to injury we bought a bmw from them. Fixed it up. It was more than what we bought it for. It seemed like a great experience, until 2 days after my daughter bought her car the check engine light came on and it has been hell trying to get ANYONE to help. The service center doesn't answer their phone, the manager just says to call who she bought it from, they are always " at lunch". it has been a nightmare. I had my vehicle appraised here. Then after checking with multiple other shops Carnax gave the highest appraisal by quite a bit. The process: I went online, submitted the info there, then had to go into a location for them to verify everything, and it was the same amount as the online quote! (I was expecting them to lower it, like a bait and switch.) Anyway, I had to think about it and a few days later went back to finalize the sale. I'm not going to lie- it took several hours, which felt like forever! But in the end, they paid off my loan and I left with a check- so mission accomplished! I also called the Carmax help line a few times with questions, and they were very thorough and nice. P.S. If you go through this process, ask for Skye! She was really upbeat, helpful and genuinely seemed to care about my making it through the process as efficiently and possible. read more

So I went to Carmax, thinking they were a different kind of dealership but come to find out. They are just another used car dealership looking to get over. They have overpriced cars that they do nothing to prior to putting them on the lot. My guess is all of them like mine are gonna need tuneup, and are probably on the verge of failing. If you're thinking that you can be reassured by their warranties, they are virtually useless. They're scam. They'll do nothing to help you. They'll give you the runaround as many times as they can until your warranty is over with. They won't actually fix the car there they'll send you to a different Mechanic somebody that's on their special list. This way they don't have to be responsible for any of the work performed if you're looking for another used car dealership that come a dime a dozen go to Carmax and overpay. read more

We wanted to test drive a vehicle & were told they were busy but made us an appointment for 15 minutes later. We waited 45 minutes and asked what's up? They said they were still too busy. We made an appointment for the next day. We arrived and waited 30 minutes beyond appointment time. There were still people with appts an hour before us that were still waiting! Bought a 2016 Audi A3 delivered to my house, sight-unseen, through CarMax-Santa Rosa. The whole process went very well. Had the car delivered to Santa Rosa from a different CarMax for $99, then delivered to my place for a 30-day/1500 mile tryout. You can't go too far wrong with such a deal. Car looked just a good in real life and online. [It was difficult for me to drive the 50 miles to Santa Rosa, at the time.] BUT, there was a scrunching noise underneath the car during starting or stopping, or going over a speed bump. Talked with Chelsea in Santa Rosa Carmax. She quickly, readily and courteously arranged to have the car taken to a local repair place (not Audi), and the transmission was found to be loose, apparently recent work elsewhere had been faulty. So, that was fixed, bill to Carmax about $2K, no questions asked. BUT, during the transmission access work, it was found that a marginal electrical charging system problem existed, probably due to the previous transmission work. SO, Carmax immediately sent the car to Audi. After another $7K, that was fixed. SO, I rate CarMax-Santa Rosa, Chelsea, and another rep there as 5-STAR. The car problems, not from them, were fixed with not even a hint of pushback, and with very good manners. I appreciate it. read more

Despite the no-haggles reputation, Carmax is still just a used car lot - with all of the waiting, the run-around, and the lies that you typically get from a used car dealer. We sold our car to Carmax. It turns out there was a problem with our title, which caused a delay. We were able to have the loan provider issue a document clearing the title. They faxed that document to the Santa Rosa Carmax - to a number Carmax gave us. That happened on a Wednesday. Starting on Thursday and continuing through the weekend, we repeatedly emailed and called Carmax to confirm that they had received the document. We never got a call back. Consequently, the 7-day written quote Carmax gave us expired. When we went online to get a new quote, the value of the car dropped almost 11% - in one week (with the car sitting on their lot!). When asked about that reduction, they repeatedly just said that the used car market dropped that much (this while the tariffs were kicking in and new and used car prices were forecast to skyrocket). They were completely unwilling to concede that their failure to respond to us might have contributed to the original offer expiring. In the end, we weren't willing to walk away and so took the 11% hit and closed the deal. It will be our last with a Carmax. (PS: expect it to take ~3 hours to get through their gauntlet - like I said, expect the typical and inexplicable delays!) read more

Wow. I have been sooooo stressed out, scouring the internet day & night. Making phones calls, driving long distances to see a car that turned out NOT AS IT SAID IT WAS ONLINE, or most of the time...gone altogether. Or then there was the time when I went to pull the trigger only to have the price increase for so.e odd reason, at which point they tried to get me to finance a car(SUV) I didn't even want. Today that all ended. I called to check on the availability of the car. They scheduled me an appointment for a test drive, took my car OFF the availability list, I had to reschedule due to a horrific migraine & they STILL held the car for me. I asked the off the lot price, drove up today & met Wendy, who was amazing. I tested the car out, great. Signed a few papers & now my life may resume after my accident. I waited for several hours just to test drive the car I ordered, then when it came to closing they told us lies about the amount of tax due, after that we asked for a itemized invoice however they could not explain the reason for the most charges on the invoice. Then before I left the lot I pointed out a crack in the window and they told me I need to speak with the service department who I called over ten times and never received a call back. Then they told me the crack in the window would be filled because it meets their standards not replaced. Not only did it have a crack but it needed a service A. When I asked how many miles was it since my last oil change they still could not provide me with that information and the man at the service department was very rude. Overall this was a very bad experience and I would not go back to purchase another car or refer someone else. read more

The buying process was smooth, easy, and convenient. However, only a few months after buying the car, and driving it only minimally and locally, did it start to have issues. The battery inconveniently and completely died and needed to be replaced for $300+ dollars. Then, a key fob battery died which was luckily an easy fix. Then, the brakes started to have issues and both front and rear brakes needed replacement for $1300! Who knows what other issues are soon to arise with the car. Update- Carmax claimed that the vehicle we purchased had been in a minor accident with no airbags deployed. We drove our new van over the weekend and noticed a few odd things like side view mirrors wobbling and discovered the headliner had been replaced. We pulled a $40 carfax report on it (which we should have done before buying instead of relying on carmax's history report) and learned that the car was involved in a major accident with airbags deployed and the roof replaced. We are returning the vehicle tonight and will have to wait 10 days for our check to be returned to our bank. It feels like we were deceived and our time wasted. We're sad to have fallen in love with a van that we can't keep. read more

The Carmax system, i think is pretty good, i have not bought a car there, but i have sold a car to them, i noticed at the Santa Rosa store everyone seems in a good place. People greet you with a smile and the whole experience seems more complimentary. I brought a late model leased car into Santa Rosa for an appraisal. They gave me a better value than dealers did on a trade in, so i decided to go for it When i brought my car in to handle the "sale" to Carmax i met Kaitlyn in the business office. She was bright and energetic in a positive way and got on the phone with Honda and seamlessly got all the formalities done. When it was over Kaityln and Carmax even got me a complimentary Lyft ride back to Petaluma. I thought that was a good service from Carmax A couple weeks later i had to come back for some document i misplaced and went to the business office again and met Karolina, and she was happy to give me copies in a snap The others girls in the business office, Julie Chin and Chantel were very positive people and helpful. Makes you want to do business there again I mostly do leases, Carmax has tons of nice inventory, but because of nice and professional people like Kaitlyn Patterson and the girls in the business office, i will probably bring my trade in leases by here first. This place is like the Walmart of car sales !!!! Not a good experience unfortunately! So sum it up...... Walked in to make a new vehicle purchase. Walked around the lot for 15 mins and was never approached. Not even approached by the huddle of high school boys wearing their blue Carmax shirts standing in a circle and talking. I walk inside to the check in counter..... Dude at the check in counter is sitting in a chair, with his back turned while staring at his phone (See pic) There was another whole check in process of waiting....waiting and waiting. Today I sat in their reception area for an hour waiting to sell my car. During that hour, I watch their ad continually play on a large flat screen. The ad stated that selling your car would be a no stress experience. Get the appraisal, get an offer, and if you decide to sell to them, leave with a bank draft in hand. I bit. After another half an hour of signing paperwork, I was given a bank draft in the amount quoted I took the bank draft to Chase to deposit in my checking account there. To my surprise, Chase informed me that there would be a ten day hold placed on the check. Instead of depositing it into my Chase account, I took the bank draft.to Wells Fargo, the bank that Carmax used to issue the bank draft. Wells Fargo would not cash it. A manager told me that there was an "agreement" between Wells Fargo and Carmax that the bank draft had to be held ten days before the funds were released, even if the payee was a Wells Fargo customer. A bank draft is supposed to be guaranteed by the bank it is drawn upon, so the funds should be immediately available to the payee. It should be treated the same as a cashier's check. Carmax at no time mentioned their "agreement" with Wells Fargo. This is the shadiest, most underhanded tactic I've ever been subject to, and I intend to complain to the BBB. read more

Don't ever ever ever buy a car from this place! I bought a 2019 rogue sport that had under 100 miles on it. Drove it home and the next morning, today, when I woke up it wouldn't start. Then the computer started to fry and the car would not drive. Car Max left me in the 100 degree weather in the sun no shade for two hours and then told me they would not come and get the vehicle even though I paid for roadside service. I had to walk home then they decide to send a tow truck out after I told him I had the key and I could not make it back over there and now my car is still stuck On the train tracks a mile from my house. They told me that the car was covered under warranty through Nissan and it isn't! I spoke to Nissan a little bit ago. This is a total scam. Really lame experience dealing with CarMax in Santa Rosa. You know those new Sailun tires on that Lexus you're looking at down at Carmax? Those tires have a 90 day warranty. That is a warranty that sucks. This is according to a guy who identified himself as Jose V. Ornelas at CarMax. Yeah, he could be anybody. According to the Sailun site, these tires have a 5 yr/45K miles warranty. That warranty is transferable in California. It's a law, though I am not an attorney. I waited on hold for about 8 minutes to talk with Jose. Terrible hold music. Ugh. I purchased a car from a private party who had purchased the car at CarMax. They purchased the car in March, 2019 and I bought it from them in June, 2020. A tire started to leak. I needed warranty info to get it fixed under warranty. If you go to CarMax, immediately turn around if Jose V. Ornelas is your sales guy...you've been warned. Oh, and when I bought this Lexus from the private party I showed him the CarFax report that said there was damage history. Private Party was surprised because the CarFax report shown to him by CarMax showed no damage history, even though the damage occured back in 2017. Assuming he is being honest, and he has been throughout this transaction, he was defrauded by CarMax Santa Rosa. In conclusion, CarMax is the absolute worst place to buy a car in Santa Rosa. UPDATE: To repair the tire I had to remove it from the car and....some idiot had way over torqued the lug nuts. Like stupidly tight. Torque is 76 ft-lbs, and I'm guessing they were north of 120 ft-lbs. One of the lug nuts was screwed up in the process, still usable but needs to be replaced. Good excuse to rotate the tires and get the lug nuts all torqued correctly. Now I would really like to get a copy of the "service" that CarMax did to the car, so that I can fix whatever else they screwed up. read more

10/10 I came into CarMax with a trade in and no specific car in mind to leave with! Anthony helped me and was so patient, after I sat in about 10 cars he still kept showing me potential vehicles! He always gave me his honest opinions and made me feel genuinely cared about. Which is 100% not how I've felt with other dealerships! We ended up looking at a car that was out of the norm for me but I ended up loving it! After a test drive and inspection I decided it was the one for me! The approval process and signing was easy and fast , great team work to make sure everything was smooth! Jasmine helped with my paperwork to end up my purchase. This is my experience. I filled out the online 'pre-approval' form, and was contacted by Josh. He asked all the right questions, and I didn't have any answers. He directed me to the CarMax app, where I spent the next two days finding the right vehicle for my wife. Josh shot me a text message, and answered every question I had to my complete satisfaction. Fast forward two days. I found a real nice compact SUV, a 2016 Chevy Trax with 14k miles on it. Practically new, everything in perfect working order. We go for the test drive, I'm sold before we leave the parking lot, it's a perfect fit for the family. We get back. I decided to look at a few more vehicles that I had seen on the app. I looked at about a dozen vehicles that day, but the first had captured my attention. The salesman, a young man by name of Erick Tinajero, took me inside and began the process. The was ZERO pressure. ZERO 'salesman' tactics. Since CarMax posts the price for all to see, there was no 'I gotta talk to the manager' scenarios that are all too common in car dealerships. Everything was done up front by computer. Got the approval in less than ten minutes, forked over my down payment of $2k (they NEVER even hinted or suggested to put down more), signed a ton of papers, and was driving my new car in less than an hour. For me, this was a stellar experience. I've purchased many cars in my life, but never has it been such a completely positive experience. I would absolutely buy another vehicle from CarMax. read more

I purchased a vehicle with their extended warranty and when the vehicle needed repair they didn't help in any way. The vehicle was sold to me with a "product improvement" that wasn't performed prior to being sold. It caused the complete engine to break down and needed to be replaced. My vehicle stayed in the shop for four months while Carmax looked into seeing what they could do and their conclusion was that they weren't going to be able to help. I ended paying over 10K out of pocket to get it fixed. Would not be purchasing another car from CarMax and don't recommend their services. read more
