We had to sell my sister in law's very nice 2021 Rogue as she is now in assisted living and tried things that worked in the past which was putting FOR SALE signs on it in front of the house and on a couple of Bay Area Websites and got nothing. I also got internet bids from KBB, Carvana, Driveway and CarMax and Car Max offered the most. We ignored those offers though as we thought the car was worth at least $900 more than the Car Max offer based on KBB's private seller values. We waited until it became apparent it wasn't going to sell in the old tried and true way but the original Car Max offer had expired so I renewed it. They came back with a new internet offer that was $100 more than we were asking locally and $1000 more, oddly, than their first offer. We went down there expecting them to drop the offer based on their very rudimentary inspection. The did not an offered the original amount which we accpeted. We requested this specific vehicle from a location in SoCal. It was worth paying for it because again, my daughter loves her car. Why 1 star? In the vehicle image gallery they show 2 key fobs. When we made the purchase? They only had one and told some lame story the place the car came from has the other key in their lockbox. What? We left with ONE key fob which is really inconvenient and very stupid. Now we have to go to the Honda dealership to purchase a second key. This kind of loose end nonsense bodes poorly for their customer service as they've created an unnecessary imposition on a customer that just handed over a substantial amount of cash. This is why I will never leave Peter Pan BMW and will continue to drive BMWs as I have for the last 25 years. I can save many of you your valuable time if you read this. Had a very new luxury car (6 months old) and decided to go in another direction with another car but needed to sell the current one. Went online to CarMax.com and entered the VIN. Within seconds, on the website I get an 'offer' to buy my car. It says Carmax will buy your car for $64k-$73k. First and foremost, I knew they would lowball, but thought it was free to at least try. Here's the key to the bait and switch which is well documented online in reviews and with the BBB. The 'offer' stipulates that the car must be brought in to the nearest CarMax for the 'sales team' to further evaluate and ultimately determine what the sale price will be based on the spectrum they sent me. Ok. New car. Perfect condition. Logical that they'd offer the highest number...even though that number is significantly less than KBB. Drove to Santa Rosa, pleasant enough sales guy looks at the car and with 45 minutes I receive a written offer for just above the lowest amount initially sent to me. I was confused and said to the sales person, but your offer was a range and this is so low, why wouldn't you offer me the higher number as the car is new? She said, what offer did we send you? I grabbed my phone and looked at all the emails that were sent to me when I got my offer online from CarMax. I was so confused, NONE of the emails had the offer amounts. Did I lose it? I then realized. The offer that CarMax sends to you is only on your computer screen and when you close down (as you have confirmation emails right?), the offer numbers are GONE. The high number they flash on the screen is JUST a way to get people to come to the dealership where they then give you a lowball offer. Shame on me for falling for this, at best, deceptive scam, at worst, illegal business practice-one that is clearly VERY common based on all the reviews out there. Beware. read more

We came here without an appointment and just decided to take a look around. They have a wide selection of cars! Some of the cars that were on the lot weren't available. You have to scan the QR code to see the availability. After looking around for a little bit, we fell in love with one of the cars. The sales representative named Dominick took care of us. He set up a test drive for us and then was helping us throughout the entire process of purchasing a vehicle. He was really nice and knowledgeable. I would like to point out somethings about carmax my friend did all the financing paperwork on a $20,000 car they said she was approved so we got their at 7 pm well thats when they didnt come right out and tell her she not approved for that car until early the next day but wanted her to come back in we decided not to then another day goes bye. They are telling her shes not approved for a $10,000 that she was putting $2000.00 down on then tells her and shows her more cars she would be eligible for so i was watching the prices of the vechiles and the lowest car was for $10,700 so in my mind im thinking how is she approved for cars that are $10,700 or more but denied for a car that was only $10,000. So I ask her how many months are in the contracted payment, and she says 72 months. Well, let me do the math. They were saying $400.00 payments, so here is the breakdown for 72 months at $400.00 thats $28,800.00 after all said and done. This does not include the $2000.00 she put down. If you add that money to the amount, it totals $30,000.00. DOES ANYONE SEE WHAT I SEE IN THIS? SHE NOT APROVVED FOR A $10,000.00 car that she putting $2000.00 so basically that makes it $8000.00 SHES NOT APPROVED FOR BUT SHES APPROVED FOR A $28,000.00 CAR DOES ANY OF THAT MAKE SINCE SHE WOULD HAVE PAYED 3 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF THE CAR ......... I like the CarMax concept. No haggle price. The price for the car on the website and on the window label is what you pay. Sales tax is the only add-on. The sales associates I met were all friendly and helpful. They were efficient and concluded the whole process in an hour. I sold my Ford Edge SUV to CarMax. The price they paid me was fair as quoted by Kelly Blue Book and Edmund's. If you are shopping for a clean, good condition, mechanically sound used car Carmax should be high on your list. My car was in the Roseville Carmax store. They shipped it 110 miles to my city of Santa Rosa for $99. It arrived in two days. All my future automobile purchases are going to be at CarMax. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. 0 STARS. Buying a car is stressful enough. I was initially excited to buy a "new to me" car here since we were assured it was low pressure to purchase a car. I started my search months ago and finally found the car of my dreams through CarMax. I had to have it shipped from Southern California (for $199) and was given the time frame of a delivery between April 12-17. I'm a fairly patient person and when the time frame lapsed I reached out, a very apologetic sales person offered a refund on my shipping fees (which I gladly accepted) and promised to call/text as soon as it came in. It arrived on April 20. I received a text on April 21 to come in and test drive it. so I made an appointment to come in. Shortly after I received a call from CarMax that there was an error on the listing and the odometer was actually 6700 miles (not 67,000) and therefore the price of the car would go up $12,000! I was shocked and said I would have to call back. A couple of hours later a sales manager called, apologized, listened to my grievance and offered to meet somewhat in the middle and lowered the price $5000. I had to think about it (it was still $7000 more than I had planned and even then this was extravagant). After a good night's sleep I realized I do not want to go into ANY business with CarMax. How was this car listed and no one caught it? I doubt anyone at CarMax cares that I didn't go through with the sale. I will never recommend it. CarMax in Santa Rosa is a joke and the young guys appraising vehicles are dishonest... I wasn't planning on selling my truck to them. I was just doing an appraisal to see what they had to offer. When they finished with the appraisal, I was watching them do it the whole time which was a joke just touching here and there and looking under the truck and obviously they brought up the truck year to see if there was any type of recalls or anything which there isn't but there was some issues with transmission for certain trucks in that year and mine had problems a couple years ago so I had a brand new transmission from the dealership put in and there is no leaks and it operates just fine. As they were finishing up, it was kinda funny that the appraisal guy started taking pictures underneath my truck of my transmission and when he was done, they presented me with the price and told me that everything looks good but the transmission is an issue of which I stated that I recently had a new transmission installed from my dealership and there is no issues with my transmission... The young lady presenting me the appraisal quote, said well that's what they said as she was walking away and I was walking away laughing due to their dishonest low ball appraisal... Do not waste your time with these guys unless you are very desperate and need cash now. Selling to a private party is the only way to go, that's the only way you'll get the money that your vehicle is worth. This review will most likely be taken down because it's Yelp and once a company complains about an honest negative review, Yelp takes down the posted review from citizens like myself because these businesses pay into Yelp. This place was such a nightmare that I'll never buy a used car again. I bought a car with a chipped windshield that had been repaired and within a couple of weeks the repair started to fail so I brought it back to CarMax and they replaced the windshield and this is where my nightmare began. The first time I broke down I was going 65mph on the freeway and the entire system just shuts down and I was barely able to coast to the side of the freeway without getting into an accident. Took it into a local mechanic and by the time they looked at it it was starting up totally fine although the system logged about 35 different error codes, so many that they were inconclusive. By the time I was done I took it to 3 different mechanics and it was in the shop 2 and a half months and they finally figured out what was wrong with it due to a huge storm and the entire interior flooding because someone didn't seal the new windshield properly due to pure laziness or incompetence. Once I presented CarMax with the proof that the windshield had failed I waited about a month on what I assumed was going to be some kind of resolution to the problem but I was clearly mistaken. They waited an entire month only to tell me they want their mechanics to verify the problem. Take it in and wait and wait and wait only to get a call from Michael the service manager and he tells me they sent it off to the Lincoln dealer in Santa Rosa and they verified the leak but said the leak wasn't big enough to cause all that damage. Well he just made that up out of thin air because I spoke to the people at Lincoln and they didn't look for leaks at all and said they recommended getting the car checked for leaks elsewhere. They diagnosed the BCM and wiring harness. Basically he was counting on me taking his word for it so they wouldn't have to take responsibility for all the damage they caused. The car will never be the same after all of that water damage so obviously I just wanted my money back but the best they could do for me was repair it and get it back on the road for who knows how long before I run into problems again and they only did that when I reported them to the bureau of auto repair. They knew all along that the windshield leak caused all the damage because they never even sent it to anyone to verify the leak. Totally untrustworthy people all the way around. read more

Found a car that I thought was my dream car, turned out to have an overheating engine and oil leakage. We decided to return it within the 10 day return policy they have, The girl at the front desk (rubber banded pigtails, acts like she's working at a prada store, immature af) proceeded to take my paperwork without explaining where it was going and then when we went back up and asked about her and the help we were receiving, she came up and said "No I wasn't helping them, it was omar." Another employee who we weren't introduced to and never saw again. We then proceeded to wait, the new employee who was unfamiliar with the procedures told us we were free to go, despite us not receiving our money or even being talked to or signing any release forms. A service department guy walking by decided to say "Calm down, he's a new guy" butting into a conversation with an incredibly rude tone and poor customer service skills. He later decided to go gossip with half the store regarding the matter, with the same immature girl from the front desk as well. So after this and waiting another 20 minutes we decided to ask the service desk questions about where our release forms were and a manager, the same rubber banded pigtails girl decides to stand by the service desk and as we are being helped, decides to stare at the other employee helping us and holds in a laugh. Another employee was overheard mocking the help we were asking for, "Oooo a manager" We did get our money back and ended up buying a new car elsewhere. This place would be great for you if you need a used car that might have unspoken of problems. Their "inspections" mean nothing. Just expect high school levels of maturity from 80% of the employees. read more

My husband and I ordered a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV that had to be shipped from Henderson, NV ($249). We live a couple of hours away, so we had to get a dog sitter and it was pretty much an all-day deal. Despite all the advertising claiming all the cars go through a 125-item checklist, when we did the test drive there was an unresolved alarm on the driver's screen (pedestrian alert malfunction) AND the A.C. wasn't working. I've had enough experience with A.C. problems to know that just recharging it wasn't going to fix whatever had caused the refrigerant to be low (the presumed problem). We spent a day of our lives (two-people/days!) on driving to see a car that wasn't ready to be sold, despite haven't been "inspected" in NV and again in Santa Rosa. And the salesperson didn't offer to refund the cost of the shipping; we had to ask for that after they'd checked the situation out after we'd left (no reason was given for why someone couldn't just sit in the car for two minutes and see what was wrong and credit us). We then ordered and now have bought a 2022 Bolt EUV. We made the four-hour round trip again and came home with the car, which seems fine. However, CarMax's paperwork is super sloppy. The 125-point checklist presented to me included all sorts of items that aren't applicable to an EV, like fuel lines, oil levels, etc., all of them checked off as being okay(!). I don't know why car dealerships always make you wait until you're starving and thirsty and half-dead, but by the time I got the e-documents on the screen, I would have signed away my dog, so I mentioned it but didn't challenge or correct it. You'd think that after all that long wait, there'd be someone making sure the docs were accurate, but that would be all you'd get for thinking. SO if you're buying an ICE car, you should know that that checklist doesn't mean squat. Have a mechanic do a thorough check during the week when they'll take the car back if you don't want to keep it. We sold a car to CarMax and that went super smoothly. My Chevy was completely overpriced. The finance company wants an arm and a leg for it with a whopping $484 monthly. Thinking about getting MaxCare? Waste of ******* money. They found nothing wrong with the car but in all reality after have these douche monkeys held on to my car for three days you can tell that whoever was in my car had left it dirty as ****. I had it looked at by yet another mechanic that told me the exact same thing the mechanic I had look at the car before I dropped it off at CarMax. The mechanics at CarMax have proven to be useless and unknowledgeable. $2,800 down the drain with this company. Not even three weeks of owning this vehicle I started having problems. My advice? DON'T EVEN BOTHER GOING HERE. You're money could be spent wiser somewhere else. Also don't sell your car here unless you have Wells Fargo. We sold our Honda Civic to them and they gave us $700 for it. Payment?
