Earlier today, I went to this dealership Garcia Volkswagen of Santa Fe and the experience was…read moreunpleasant. This dealership is shady and most of the staff that I interacted with today was manipulative and gas-lighting. I have been looking for a new vehicle for over a year now and have done numerous research on Volkswagen Taos. I found a gorgeous pure white 2022 Volkswagen Taos on this lot going for $20,500. I reached out to this dealership yesterday (Friday) to confirm that they still had this vehicle on the lot before I made the trip to Santa Fe. I specifically asked in the message if they could *email* me on the confirmation and what the out the door (OTD) price was. I received a *phone call* instead of an *email* from Art (sales Manager) and *only* a confirmation that the vehicle was available. I made it to the dealership this morning (Saturday), I test drove this vehicle and was wanting to purchase it. I already had a pre-approval from my Credit Union (CU) and this speficifc dealership was listed as their preferred dealer (which is why I even came out to Santa Fe). This vehicle was well within my amount of pre-approval. I was not over the amount, nor was I trying to waste the dealership's time or resources. Actually, I was hoping to avoid the drama and shady business by using a dealership partnered with my CU. Unfortunately, all I got was shady business practices, runaround, time wasting and gas-lighting experience. When I asked for the OTD price I was given the price for "another" vehicle on the lot, going for a total price of 23k. I looked over the breakdown price and questioned why the car was for $22k instead of $20,500 as advertised on their website. The salesman had asked me where I was getting this information from. As I was trying to show the salesman with my phone the vehicle price for $20,500. The vehicle was removed from their website. Luckily, I had taken a screenshot of this vehicle with the price and was able to verify my information. The salesman went back to tell Art the discrepancies, when the salesman came back with the 'actual' price of the vehicle I was inquiring about, he had followed up with a lame excuse stating 'Art hasn't had his coffee yet.'. When negotiations started, instead of Art coming down to help his staff- another staff member came to tell me that I was being unreasonable. He did not know the whole story of how we got from point A to Point B, he would not let me or the salesman explain that Art destroyed my trust. This staff member would not meet me in the middle of talking down the price. The staff member told me that I needed to make a better offer to them (as if they are the ones trying to buy a vehicle from me). I walked out. If I went through the pains to get pre-approved and went through 'trusted preferred dealership' from my CU. I shouldn't be given this runaround, lying and gas-lighting experience. I was trying to get a car that I could afford within my budget and not something over my pre-approved amount. It is also shady to remove a listing on a vehicle that someone is attempting to purchase and try to change the price of said vehicle. I am also one to follow up with proof please see attached photo's. 1.) The vehicle's price listed on the website, 2.) The unfounded page of said vehicle in question (Also the original link of the vehicle [https://www.volkswagenofsantafe.com/used/Volkswagen/2022-Volkswagen-Taos-for-sale-santa-fe-nm-98ed65dbac1816f184c8d2cb5716c46e.htm]). 3.) As of Saturday 01/18/2025 01:30pm this is the used vehicle on 'currently' on the lot which does not include this vehicle.

Walked in Oscar greeted me at front, took me back to desk, explaining how CarMax works. Did an excellent job breaking down process. I explained what I was looking for. He pulled up some options. Oscar had an appraiser go evaluate my truck while we evaluated the 2 I liked. Appraisal was more than one , but lower than other dealers. KEY is they don't require you to sell it to them. Truck I liked would cost me $199 to have it delivered from UT for a test drive. I paid, 10 days later after inspected/prepped, I drove it. During the 10 days Oscar & system kept me updated of shipping status. Zero haggling or problems during the appraisal, search, shipping, test drive & final sale. Final paperwork takes a while, so be prepared to wait. Business office staff broke down the paperwork, easy explanation of cost. Thereby making you feel you are not being taken. I called two days later to confirm with Brittany (in business office) if everything was a go, because I will be going to TX soon. I am worried about my temporary plates expiring. She explained everything is great, but would personally watch out for them. THAT IS GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, because I feel I no longer need to worry about this. Brittany is on top of it. There are many different sales persons in the building, young, older, male, female, of color, Spanish speaking, so absolutely no reason you can't find someone to feel comfortable with in your vehicle search. Now that said I highly recommend Oscar (attached his photo) You are able to ask for him personally if you wish. Funny that wife & I found him easy to work with even though we have adult grand-kids his age. Young but a hard worker & quick to get you the answers you need.

This time, the hunt started on Saturday. Before we even walked into the dealership, we went ahead and prequalified with external financing. We made an appointment to test drive a vehicle at 3 pm. I highly encourage appointments. We arrived and we were assigned a sales agent, Sydney Fox. The member of our party who would be driving the vehicle ran about 15 minutes late. Sydney went ahead and washed the vehicle and got it ready for the test drive. We told her we were interested in other vehicles. She got our next option ready and we went for our drive. We came back and saw the next vehicle. The interior was a bit of a wreck, so we passed on the test drive. We went back to the drawing board. Found another vehicle, and another test drive. We broadened our search and found another vehicle, yet another test drive. Then, we stumbled upon the vehicle we decided on. Test drive was awesome. We came back and told Sydney we wanted it. She had to leave at 6 pm, so she set us up with Evan to finish the process. I logged into my insurance app, got a quote, and then the next page showed a drastically different payment layout. We told Evan we needed to pump the brakes on the sale until we could get our insurance figured out. They put the vehicle on hold for us until Monday 6 pm. On Monday morning, I got a text from Sydney inquiring about our interest in the vehicle. I told her we got a hold of our insurance, it's good, and we want the vehicle. We would be in at 6 pm to finalize the deal. We filled out the CarMax prefinancing, but there rate wasn't as good as our external source. She later messaged me and said we could work the process from home and it would be express delivery when we showed up at 6. I was a little hesitant, but with some encouragement, I said I would try. I had a hiccup in my external loan application. I had to call the business to have them set up automated payments, and we just went ahead and finished the loan processing. I logged back into my app, signed the loan, and then asked my husband to do the same. I then added the vehicle to my insurance policy and sent them a photo copy. I did all of this from the comfort of my home. We showed up at 6, checked in, waited maybe 20 minutes, signed some paperwork, and we were lead out to the vehicle around 6:45. That was express service if I say so myself.

The cars look good, but they are trash. Don't be fooled. I would give them a zero star if possible. I've thought as many people that are unhappy with this company we should go to the attorney general to get better protection from our state leaders against these financial predators who take advantage of New Mexicans!

The finance guy was too pushy. To the point where I was feeling bullied. It was going to be a big purchase for me. I wanted time to sit with the decision over night. I also wanted time to review everything in the quiet of my home. I'm really glad I did. Branded Tiles are kind of a big thing that they gloss over, relying on people being ignorant of the ramifications of purchasing a branded title. I don't want my process for making a $30,000 purchase to be labeled as over thinking or to be called someone who "stresses out a lot". That was exactly what was said to me. I very calmly explained for at least 15-20 minutes that I wasn't going to sign the papers today. I was going to think about it overnight and come back with a check. The other dealer I saw earlier in the day was totally fine with that. This guy took hard sell too far.
