Mikaela in the business office single-handedly ruined my life. I paid over 8,000 for a down payment on a vehicle I was asked to return, upon returning the vehicle Mikaela and Jerry informed me that the only way I would be refunded for the down payment is if I allow them power of attorney to sign my name. Mikaela personally cancelled the refund of my deposit and is informing me that she doesn't have a manger on site. So either she the one managing the location or shes lying. read more

Purchased a vehicle and 1 month in I have nothing but problems. The fix is to keep taking it back to them so they can keep fixing it. All this just because they won't admit that they sell nothing but lemons. The customer sales lady even had the gall to say her job is more stressful than mine and she "understands". My advice is go to the dealership and dont deal with non car people. The customer service is great but only becuase it has to be when you sell a bad product. read more

It was so easy to sell our truck to them. We filled out info online and then they quoted a price and we drove it to car max and within an hour we had a check for the amount they promised. Easy peasy!! If I ever sell a vehicle again I am going here. It was so easy and got a great price for the truck. read more

I really wanted to give this place five stars but I could not. Their online approval and application process is great, except what happens once you're done. When you are done, you start getting communication from five different people to complete your process. Every single person tells you, you are done...and youre not. Every single new phone call comes with a new application process or paperwork that is not done. The last person finally told me I was ready to go.And they had an express appointment for me to pick up my car. When I was six minutes away, I get a phone call to complete the process... Needless to say I was very upset. I finally get there and have to fill out a lot of the paperwork I already filled out because, for some reason, it was not filled out. After all was said and done, despite the promise of an express process, they now had to go get the car and clean it because it was not ready to go. The car was great and I have not had issues with it and the price was good... But if only they could work on the service. read more

Such a GREAT experience here and would recommend this CarMax to everyone! I did most of the paperwork online so it did make it easier when I got there. We were early to our appointment but Leo helped us as soon as we came in, he had multiple customers at the moment but was putting the effort to help everyone as much as he could! They were short staffed so it did take a little longer than it probably would've but everyone there was apologetic about the wait time and you could tell they were doing what they could! I'm so happy with my experience and will recommend this location to everyone now! read more

First of all, Liza R. was great she did everything in her power to help us, so none of this review reflects on her. I spent a lot of time online to get an offer on my trade in and to complete the purchase paperwork beforehand. I should have been able to get in and out in an hour easily. But I was there for 3 hours. First, the offer they gave me couldn't be used. They said it was expired although I had refreshed it the same day and it showed on my phone as still valid. So they did a new assessment and, of course, it was $1600 less than the online offer. Awesome! Then it seemed non of my Pre work to purchase the car was useable. They had to have me reapply although I had already been approved and in the end their e-signature capabilities also failed and they had to print everything and make me sign physically. I think this is not about the people (who were doing their best) but Carmax's systems. They utterly failed and it made the buying experience horrible. Should have been a 'walk in, walk out' experience but we had to waste 3 hours. read more

My husband and I were going to both trade in our vehicles and get new ones. In the process, the person who was working with us was very rude, and when we decided to go somewhere else and returned to our vehicles we found out that they scratched my husband's truck. We were absolutely livid. When asked about how I felt about the offer for our vehicles I was honest and stated that I expected the value to be more and was told "we don't haggle here" so we brought our vehicles to Toyota and got $8,000 more. Do not go here. read more

Our experience at Carmax in San Antonio on 11880 IH-35 N was less than decent. Our salesperson, Romeo, was not knowledgeable in the processes he proposed to us (like 24 test drive, pre purchase repairs, post-purchase warranty & repairs) and he lacked effort to go find out the actual process. If he didn't know an answer he would just say "I don't know & I'm not sure," only going to ask a supervisor or colleague After I requested him to ask someone. Then he'd come back and say he couldn't find anyone to help bc no one wanted to come over if they weren't making commission on the sale. (Doesn't seem like a helpful or collaborative team environment). The wait time for in-store answers and attendance was almost unbearable. It took 1.5 hr to get signed up for the 20min test drive and close to 3 hours for the 24hr test drive. Romeo seemed to not have a sense of honoring or making the most of customers time. Just to copy drivers license took 20 min, as Romeo chatted with his coworker. After the 24 hr test drive we asked Romeo about a few key things that need maintenance before purchase. Romeo said Ok he will take the short list to the maintenance team & then call us that next Tuesday. Later that evening (Saturday), we get a call from Nate/Nick who tells us that our pre purchase inspection was actually not allowed & we did not have authorization to take it anywhere & that Carmax will only repair things After the car is purchased and only if there is damage to the vehicle then. We explained that we spoke to the manager & got approval for a pre-purchase inspection & we don't feel comfortable buying a car knowing something may be wrong with the rear differential. The requested repairs were less than $1,000 combined. We asked to schedule another appointment with them for Monday & maybe just go over things in person. He said Romeo was off Monday so he'd make us an appointment for 6pm Tuesday. The next morning (Sunday) we see that the car has been released from my reservation. We texted Romeo on Monday & asked how things were going & if the maintenance team agreed to the repairs. No response. Wednesday Romeo responded saying maintenance was still contemplating. Romeo never shared that the car was released. Very shady. I still had 4 days left of the reservation but it happened to be released right after our call with Nate/Nick. That Monday I made a new reservation for the car & requested it be shipped to the other Carmax location in San Antonio; but honestly we didn't feel comfortable with Carmax anymore so we ended up buying the same model & package at a different dealership altogether. read more

CarMax - Minor scratch/paint that wasn't on the vehicle in the online preview before paying for the vehicle to be shipped to that location. - Used Car Dealers Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

I purchased a vehicle with them less than 2 years ago. The process wasn't too bad, but what I didn't know was the vehicle they sold me had been in multiple car accidents including one where the airbags were deployed. We had many issues with the car and spent over $4,000 to get things running again these were repairs to have the windshield replaced, the glovebox completely detached. At this point, we were still unaware of the previous accident. It needed another $5000 in repairs to have a new computer system put in and for it to be reprogramed. We didn't find out about the accident until we went to a different dealership and tried to trade in the vehicle to which they offered very little. I would give only 1 star, but I do take some ownership in not asking for the carfax. What is even more frustrating is that they sold the vehicle to me at the same price as the others that had not been messed up. So now we have to pay for a new car plus the negative equity from the one purchased at CarMax but we couldn't afford to be dishing out a couple thousand every few months. I will never go to CarMax again. read more

As for me and my family, we will never do business with this establishment again. We bought a car from the Live Oak location a year & a half ago and it has been nothing but headaches. From the AC going out, and putting it in the shop 5 times for that, to it leaking coolant and overheating. Now we are paying $5,000 ( FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS) to get the transmission replaced. We are still making payments on this car and we have MaxCare (a warranty through carmax), which is a scam. I wish so badly I would have never bought a car through carmax. They have not been helpful in this whole process. We got stuck with a lemon. When speaking with someone in the service department about the issues, they were very argumentative and transferred me to the manager, Tiffany, who was still not helpful. Our car has been in the shop more in the past 18 months than it has been in our possession. What's even crazier is when I posted about the troubles I was having on a local Facebook group, plenty of others said they experienced the same thing with this location. We loved our sales representative, Kierre, and would have loved to buy a secondary car with him. Unfortunately, we will not be back. read more

Scam alert with their warranties. If you schedule online with a Repair Pal certified shop you may end up paying way more than your deductible. My deductible is 100 the shop wants around 500 to do the work. Warranty company told me to take it up with the shop, CarMax says take it up with the warranty company or go to another shop. I don't have time to drive around and drop my car off multiple times in hops that this place honors your warranty. "All RepairPal Certified shops honor the RepairPal Price Guarantee, where the cost of repairs must not exceed the estimated range provided by the RepairPal Estimator. All of the price data in our Estimator is rigorously gathered and analyzed, which ensures you will always get a fair price estimate for your repairs. Learn more about the RepairPal Price Guarantee" But the warranty may not cover these prices, This shop did not honor that price. The warranty YOU sold me wont honor their price. Both of you think this is my problem. I wish this was a one off, but this is the second different repair shop I have now had the issue with. One was the actual Volvo dealership. read more

I would strongly suggest to get pre-approved by a bank Carmax interest rate is much higher. You can get a brand new car for a cheaper car note. They sell your information to other lenders & you will receive letters saying they can save you money on your car note.. they charge you 500.00 to do that! Carmax will not refinance your loan because they are not a bank. Also check the blue book value of the car. Happy shopping read more

I had done my research about getting a car sold and where to get the best return. My neighbor that works for a dealer also said Carmax can't be beat. I did the online estimator and was very pleased with what I got. Since this was my Mother's car I was not familiar with all the bells and whistles it had. I decided to take it for an in person appraisal. It was 1500 less than the online appraisal. I felt that was close enough and accepted the offer. Why would I leave 1500 on the table? They saw some things I was not aware of and needed attention. I felt it was a reasonable offer. Everything went pretty smoothly and we were on our way with a check in our hand in about an hour. read more

The Live Oak location is one of the worst. We get told one thing then get there and are told something different. They do not do what they say they will do, and they schedule appointments then the car salesman is not there. He is conveniently off, a fact he did not state to us. We come from out of town and the car that we were assured by a person and their own system, was there, was in fact not. Then they offer us a $50 credit for gas, but I have to go and put the gas first to get reimbursed. We drove a combined 170 miles and wasted 3 hours of drive time to get there only to be told oh sorry you were misinformed. I called twice on the day we were told our car would be ready since no one there bothered to call us and were told oh sorry not today. Just disorganized, unfriendly, full of "my apologies" and BS. read more

Hello! On December 26th, 2024 I bought from Carmax San Antonio (Fountainhead Dr.) a RAM 1500 made in 2015 for $24,850. Not even two months passed and the car broke on February 18th. I wasn't able to start it. The car was towed to the Carmax facility and kept there for 11 days. They were going to repair it because it still had the Carmax 3 month warranty. Being a commercial car, my company has lost a lot of money because I wasn't able to work with it for 11 days. Carmax agents told me that Carmax does not take any responsibility for that. In these 11 days the communication from Carmax was very poor. Unreplied e-mails, unanswered phone calls, they promised to call back on the same day but called the next day after I have reached to them again. It was always me who had to reach out to them. They took the car to a third party repair shop. I had to call the shop myself to find out updates about the car. Carmax agents told me: "We weren't able to get a hold of them." I called the repair shop and in 2 minutes they gave me all the updates. I've decided to sell the car back to Carmax and they gave me an appraisal for $17,000. That is almost $8,000 less than what I paid for not even 2 months earlier. I have put into the car only 2,000 miles. The last drop was when I realized that the 11 month warranty they gave me for the repairs does not apply for commercial vehicles. So, basically I'm left out with nothing. I would have been open to buying another truck from Carmax had they evaluated my RAM for the price I paid for it. I'm totally disappointed with Carmax and will never recommend them to anyone. read more

Customer service was great. We were selling a car and didn't make a deal, , but the service was 10/10.

I came to sell my car today. They quoted me a price online a few days ago. After inspecting my car they gave the exactly what they quoted me online. It was a generous and fair price for my car. I did not have to buy a vehicle from them. This is the second time I've sold a car to CarMax . Several family members have bought and sold cars to them. I will definitely do business with them again and recommend them to everyone. read more

I completed the online offer to sell my car on their website to the best of my ability. I liked the offer I was given, but still went to other dealerships just in case. The offers from the other dealerships were jokes for the car I was selling. Went to CarMax as the last resort and they quickly confirmed the appraisal and came back with a bit less but almost $5k higher than the other offers. I took it! They were very busy but had water, TVs, and phone charging stations. Every employee I had an interaction with was very friendly. The restrooms (women, atleast) were clean. So glad I decided to avoid the CarMax naysayers in my family and friends!! Will 100% recommend to anyone looking to sell or buy a car. read more

I bought a car that had the low tire pressure light on. they said it was a sensor issue and would go off by the time i got home. turned out it wasn't the sensor and there was a nail in the tire. then aside from buying a car with a nail in the tire, the next day the check engine light came on. when i went to carmax to tell them my issues within 24 hours of purchasing the car they sent me to a good year to get it fixed, but didn't care about my experience at all. terrible customer service, and if you're looking into buying a car there check for nails in the tires. read more

Everyone please take a moment and help me praise Ms. Holly Ford (Sr Sales Consultant). Her customer service is superior! I tagged along with my daughter, by request, who decided she was ready to update her ride. There was a system glitch, which caused the 3-day 'hold' my daughter had requested to fall of and someone else had begun the buying process online for the same vehicle. My daughter spoke to a manager, the situation was rectified and an appointment was set to finalize her loan documents...enter Ms. Holly Ford. We had to see Ms. Holly because the original rep, who handled my daughter's test-drive was off work. She actually coaxed my daughter through what she needed to say to her lender to get her documents sent over immediately. Ms. Ford was pleasant, courteous, provided excellent loan advice and expedited the preparation of my daughter's car for departure. Go see her if you're looking for new wheels. By the way, she (my daughter) was ecstatic at the amount they provided for her old vehicle. She had vehicle equity $$. A definite win-win situation. read more

I bought a car with this company, the car had many errors but now is ok, but the main concern is the ABUSE that this Comany did to me, they offered me an extended warranty I was agreed, but they never told me that even that my car still had it a manufacture warranty for more years, at one point my car did have 2 warranties running simultaneously, instead of having the one that they sold to me to run after the manufacted warranty will end, I went to the store and they denialed to have done nothing wrong, now my factory warranty expired as well as the one that they sold to me and I do have to get another one. they got a lot of money wheen they sold this warranty, they increase to the loan the cost of this unsulfull warranty, I do feel that with all knowgledment that they stole from me to their own benefit. read more

10/5 stars for JOE in the service department! he has been very helpful with the repairs on my car and very understanding.

There was no urgency at all. Thankfully Yvonne came in from another door in the dealership and asked if I had been helped yet and with urgency helped me. don't come to this place if you want a BMW they sold me an X3 series and two weeks after I got a "engine coolant is low" light came on. I called Carmax and took it in a week later because the service team (Joe) told me they were too busy. They top off the coolant and I was out in less then an hour. two weeks later the same engine coolant light came on and I called AGAIN. The service team tells me right away I should take my car to BMW and that Carmax can't help me at all. I ask him how he could possibly know that because the first time I took it he (Joe) said he found no issues and this time he says don't take it to him because it's no help. Did they know i had an issue the first time or just not wanting me to come in at all? I showed up today demanding help because I couldn't reach anyone who didn't try and transfer me to someone else. Sales told me they can't do much regarding the service department. I bought this car less than 40 days ago, 20 k down, purchased the Carmax care plan on top of my insurance. To be told over the phone to just take my car to BMW, then to have no one answer my phone calls, then to have the sales manager Gilbert give me two options. I thought I never would get an option bt. Option 1 Get a loaner car bc more BMWs are also being serviced, waiting on this same part as me Option 2 get a new car. I said I'll get a loaner and he responds with "ma'am I honestly wouldn't do that if I were you because it could take 2-3 months". so really I have one option? Get a new car? And then he said he can connect me to my original sales rep to do that or I could do the research on my own and find another car for myself..... lol COOL. I said no I don't want to be handed off to someone else. I came back from my deployment excited for my new car purchase only to be wishing I should have went to a dealership. Bought a truck from them. Honestly, you can't go wrong here, for any used car. What used car dealership allows you to drive a car for 30 days, up to 1500 miles, and if you decided you don't want it, they will take it back. And if you decide to keep it they throw in a 90 day warranty, if anything goes wrong they fix for free. I am so satisfied with the whole car buying experience, I wouldn't think about going anywhere else. In these times, with car dealership, asking ridiculous amount for used cars. And then all the extra fees and hidden cost. It doesn't happen here. No haggle pricing, then tax, title and license, and if you want extended warranty, that's it. read more

Sold my car to Carmax. Received a check same day and took it to the bank. 9 days later I'm still waiting on the funds because of what they call a "drop check." I bought a car, which is Mulano made by Nissan, from Carmax 3 months 14days ago. I paid 15000$ for the car. It had only 70000 mileage when I bought it. One day, the engine light was on, and it turned out the transmission was broken down. When I went to the Carmax to fix it, the manager said they didn't take responsibility because 90days warranty passed. I bought the car from Carmax because I trusted them to sell guaranteed quality cars. The transmission is very important part as much as engine, but they didn't check carefully before selling the car. I have to pay the replacement fee, which is 5000$ ,out of pocket. I will hire lawyer to deal with this issue. read more

Business center keeps saying 10 minutes for the paperwork..10 minutes. Bullshit! At some point just say hour or two hours...sheesh.

Bought a lemon from these guys. It's a 2013 Nissan Altima. Cosigned on it for my daughter. Accepted their in house financing, just so we could drive it off the lot that day. Take it to my bank, and they tell me I overpaid about $3500 for the year and model of car. And then the mechanical issues begin. First her alternator dies on her within two months of the purchase date. So I change that out. Then the AC starts blowing warm air, within four months of purchasing. So I take it to have it diagnosed and they tell me it's the compressor. So I have that replaced. Then the breaks start squeaking and pulling to one side within six months of purchasing. So I replace those. Also, within the first few days of purchase, the check engine light comes on, so she takes it back to dealer, they give her a loaner and they keep it for a few days. They tell her that whatever caused the check engine light to come on, was a major issue and that if she hadn't brought it back right away, it could have caused the entire engine to fail. This car has been nothing but trouble, and I will Never buy anocar from Carmax! read more
