I have never felt so insignificant being in a car dealer. I got approved over the phone and came into pick up my vehicle. There were issues with that. But the level of decency I was shown was horrible. I know I made minimum wage and was getting a van but Jesus... I was treated horrible. I was left multiple sitting by the sales agent auturo and after the manager Justin came over one time of asking for him he never came back. I requested auturo once more after sitting for 15 min to get everything resolved and he took 30 min to come back. By that time the employment verification line to my job was closed and he could care less. He showed attitude and could care less that I fought an Uber to come pick up my car. Which would be fine if we were doing things that took two hours but it was just a long wait for a les than full offer on our car. I recently copped some new wheels from CarMax in Chamblee. Experience was pretty painless almost "ho hum" None of the excitement I thought I'd feel. I traded in Blanca and went home with onyx. My sales people were pretty good, the local rep found the model I wanted for the price I wanted. Excellent in that and I thank her fir it. The only thing that prevents me from giving a 5-star rating is this. I see the commercials of people leaving CarMax being presented with the big bow and all the hoopla you're a new CarMax car owner! I didn't get that and I felt a little cheated because I saw everyone else's sales rep taking photos of their clients, doing checks of lights and what not. My salesperson left before I even left the building. Long before I left. As a matter of fact, I couldn't figure out how to operate something in the vehicle and had to come back inside and ask for help. That entire experience was embarrassing, not only for your salesman (who was enjoyable and very pleasant), but for me as well. Both cars were filthy and had no business being shown to the public - much less driven today with a scheduled appointment. They always say "a company is only as good as its leaders." It's obvious that your GM is working towards driving CarMax Norcross into the ground. Here it goes... 1. We drove the Kia Optima first, which looked like it hadn't been washed in months. The car literally died while we were trying to exit the parking lot! You're joking, right?? Not only that, the mismatched floor mats looked as amateur as I've ever seen - to the point where it's like they did it as a joke. Not funny at all if you ask me, especially when the factory floor mats were in the trunk. Unacceptable on all accounts and the sorry ass manager that signed off on this mess should have been fired a very long time ago. 2. We drove the Nissan Altima second, which also looked like it hadn't been washed in months. This car was shipped from another CarMax to the insanely embarrassing Norcross location. Yep, you guessed it... It wasn't ready to be shown to the public either. There was a "HEAD product tag" on the driver side floor and a large plastic piece on the passenger side floor. It's like your management team is in business to do everything possible to not sell cars. Here's the solution: - Detail the car before the public can see it. - Make sure the car runs. - Pull the car up to the front for the scheduled appointment (Sales 101). - Sell the car. CarMax Norcross does the exact opposite of those four elementary steps. You're joking, right?! If your management team can't figure that out, I don't know what else to say. As someone who works in a service-oriented profession, I appreciate any experience where I am treated like a person and not just a transaction. In the market for a car, I decided to give Carmax a try based on their marketing and no-haggle approach. Over the course of 9 days, Carmax made three mistakes. I may have given them another try if they had shown some accountability or issued an apology that wasn't followed up with an excuse. Day 1: Browse cars, Test Drive Day 2: Requested a free transfer of a GRAY (color matters, please read on) car within 250 miles from Birmingham to ATL Day 4: Car 1 arrives at CarMax (beaver ruin) Day 5: WALK AROUND PROCESS SKIPPED. Receive message from one of the two sales reps working on this deal letting me know that CAR 1 was a smoker's car and he's not sure if this will be an issue. I was disappointed but kept my appointment. The car's COLOR was correct, exterior in good condition. Upon opening the door of the car, it smelled like smokey the bear and puff the magic dragon had thrown a party in the vehicle. There was damage to the middle console and carpet burns. I was surprised that any CarMax location would release this vehicle for transfer and claim that it had been 'cleaned'. My rep told me that he had skipped the "walk around" process (a request for basic information via email before the car is transferred: (1) any smoke, pet or stale odors? (2) any flaws on exterior? (3) is interior clean and tight? (4) are tires in good condition? (5) does it start up and run?) in an effort to expedite the transfer process. It doesn't matter how quickly the car arrives at your desired location if it is NOT the right car. Day 6: I request the free transfer of Car 2 from Greenville, SC contingent upon the results of the walk around. My rep gives me the green light and we move ahead. Day 8: Receive text from my rep that Car 2 has arrived but they are slammed. Can I stop by the next day? I agree. Day 9: WRONG COLOR. Rep #2 (the rep who helped with the first two transfers is helping another customer) shows me to the car. It is the WRONG color! I requested the transfer of a GRAY car and this car was GREEN. It took 10 minutes for me to convince the rep that I know green from gray and it doesn't matter what angle the sun is hitting the car. He finally realized that I was right and agreed to run a new label on the car that listed an incorrect color. A conversation with a manager was meaningless and insulting. I let her know that I would like to continue working with Carmax; what could they offer me given these challenges to encourage me to stick with the process. She said they would get on the phone this time with the staff at the other location before I transferred my next car to make sure the color was correct. Wow --thanks. So what you're offering me is that you're going to "do your job"? Then she said, we can expedite the transfer of your next car. I let her know that the timing of the transfers had not been an issue. She asked what I had in mind in terms of what Carmax could offer. This comment showed me that my business did not matter. I asked her to expand the free transfer radius beyond 250 miles and she said no. Finally, I walked out to the used car lot on my own to explore other options. I came across CAR 3 (not my preferred color but still nice). Rep 2 offered to hold the car for me for 24 hours. Three hours later, he texted me to say that he did not block the car in time and another person had purchased the vehicle. Since that day, I have received a few follow up texts asking if I was still interested in working with them, but never a genuine apology, gesture to earn my business back or even a phone call. CarMax gave me a great trade-in price for my car, and Nick (Norcross store) made my car buying experience exponentially better than I had expected or experienced elsewhere. Later, when I asked to exchange it for the same make/model/year, but different trim, CarMax again gave me a GREAT trade-in price, and Nick made the second purchase a breeze. Then I had to get my new (used) car looked at by the service department, and Nick made sure I had a Lyft driver available to take me back to the store once my car was fixed. It's worth noting he was not initially involved with the service appointment; Nick saw me at the store, found out I was there for service, and took it upon himself to help make the service visit a good one. My advice: You're in good hands with Nick as your sales consultant, and, if possible, avoid the Norcross service department, especially if it's close to the weekend or a holiday. While it's true you might appear to pay more at CarMax versus other dealerships, do the math: Other dealerships will quote a lower price, and the other charges/fees will show up just before you sign the bill of sale. CarMax most likely includes them in the sale price, so there are fewer or no surprises when it's time to seal the deal. read more

The level of attention paid to my vehicle was completely unacceptable. I purchased a vehicle and a week later I was having trouble with the turbo on the car. CarMax Service said the trouble I was having is in line with the miles and age of the vehicle. However, the vehicle manufacture and several other quotes said the part has failed. CarMax refused to fix the part during the warranty period, and I was stuck with a newly purchased vehicle, and will be left responsible to repair a failed part even though the car is still within the 30 warranty period. I would never purchase another vehicle from CarMax and I highly encourage others to take their business elsewhere It is completely unacceptable to sell a vehicle knowing a part is failed, and refuse to fix the part within the warranty period. read more

We have seen so many commercials for Carmax, stating that they will buy your car even if you don't buy from them. We decided to check out Carmax to see how much they would offer for my nearly perfect condition 6 year old car with very low mileage. We took my car in, had them do there full inspection as stated and were told that it would be 30 minutes before we would have an offer. Giving the Carmax employee my information, he stated that my car doesn't hold its value well. Just because I am a female doesn't mean I don't know anything about cars, I am very passionate about cars and am very knowledgeable about cars. I was pretty insulted with his feedback regarding my car, before I had the appraisal done. 30 minutes later, we received the appraisal. My car was noted that it was in excellent mechanical condition, which did not surprise me as I take very good care of my car. When it came to the appraisal, I was quoted $2,000 less then what I had originally expected to be offered. Now, I am not asking for more than Kelly Blue Book and I know that dealers do a mark up on cars they sell. On there website, they had a car, same year and model, just a different color with the same mileage, priced at $5,000 more than what they had offered me. I had contacted a friend, who is also in the car selling business and asked his opinion about the offer Carmax offered me. He couldn't believe the low price they had offered me for my car, as he knows the condition of my car and knows that my car is worth more than what they offered. If you are looking to sell your car, and not purchase a car from Carmax, I highly recommend that you do your research to find out how much your car is worth, before agreeing to have Carmax buy your car from you, after they make you an offer. When asked what I thought of the offer, I explained that I have been offered more money for my car and that I wouldn't be willing to accept their offer. After this experience, I certainly will not consider Carmax in the future, nor will I recommend Carmax to family or friends. read more

Leslie was looking for a new car, since her Honda Accord is literally falling apart. Already at 175K miles and over 13 years old, I told her that there was no way I can allow myself to be a passenger without some sort of passenger insurance! As her BFF, landlord, personal shopper and financial advisor...I was recruited to help her buy her first car. Besides nothing is better than shopping for a new car! Now one thing that I know about Leslie is that she is quite emotional...as a person and a buyer. I knew that a typical dealership was not going to give her good customer service or a positive buying experience. About 6 months ago, I took Roxanne to Carmax and she left buying a Honda Element...all in like 3 hours! So I knew, Carmax would be perfect for Leslie since there would be no pressure put on her on buying something, plus they have an amazing and easy to use website. I was right...Leslie enjoyed her experience, found a Mazda 3 that she loved, and left the dealership 8 hours later in a new car. She was quite amazed at herself on how easy this all was! Door Greeters- Wonderful! Salesman- Great! Car Buying Experience- Excellent! Service Department- HORRIBLE!!! UNPROFESSIONAL!! DISORGANIZED!! After driving the car for the first week or two, we noticed that the vehicle had obviously not gone through the "100-point" inspection that Car Max lives by. Under the CarMax 30- Day return for Service Policy- we returned the car to find that the vehicle needed quite a few major repairs- that should have been completed prior to the vehicle being sold apparently. The Service Manager-John (just as Carla M. stated) has a very condescending personality, very rude, and could honestly give (2) sh***s about anyone's car. I want to know how this guy keeps his job. When calling to check on the status of the car, he basically tells us that he has too many other important projects and cannot work on my vehicle for the next few days. Can we say "unprofessional"? The Service Department at this location definitely needs an OVERHAUL! The corporate office should really investigate the customer's feedback for this location. If you need anything serviced on your vehicle- this is not the location to choose! read more

So we are on our third car purchase from Carmax. The first two experiences were positive, which we shared with many people, but out latest experience has been just the opposite. Purchasing the car was smooth but once the check was written and we drove off the lot things changed. After taking the car home and giving it a thorough cleaning I noticed the carpet on the rear passenger side floor was beginning to turn yellow. It became clear after a few minutes that at some point the carpet had been bleached accidently and dyed back to black by someone. It could have been the previous owner or Carmax, I don't know and it really doesn't matter. I called Carmax the following week and was advised to bring it in for them to assess the situation. After they inspected the carpet they agreed to replace the rear right side of the carpet. I was concerned about only replacing one side due to the required seam and matching the carpet appropriately. I was assured that they would match the carpet and it would be seamless. After dropping off the car I was contacted by their service department and told that they would need to replace the entire piece of carpet, that they would need to order the carpet from Ford and that they would need a few days to receive the carpet and install it. To Carmax's credit they did provide me with a rental car during this time. My wife picked up the car after the work was completed and was immediately unsatisfied with the work performed. The carpet was clearly a different pile, texture and color than the stock carpet. She returned the car and spoke to our service advisor expressing her concerns. A service manager was brought to the car and proceeded to tell her he couldn't understand what she was talking about and that the carpet installed was what the Ford had sent them and that is what they installed. She was expressly told that this is the standard carpet Ford installs in their cars and that was the end of it. Once she returned home I took a look at the job performed and was surprised at how bad it really was. The carpet was clearly an aftermarket piece of flat carpet. It was cut to size and then glued on top of the factory carpet. It had wrinkles everywhere there was a contour to the floor, there were gaps where it met interior trim pieces and the glue used barely adhered to the factory carpet. It was obvious that the carpet installed would be pulled loose within a few weeks of kids jumping in and out of the backseat and it certainly wouldn't survive a good vacuuming. We contacted our service advisor and asked for the specific Ford part number of the carpet installed and a week later have not received a call back with the part number. Not surprising since it was clearly not a Ford factory part. I called the Carmax store manager, who was reportedly out of the store for the week, and left a message that was never returned. Over the last several years we have purchased 3 vehicles from Carmax for a total of around $80,000. We spent $36,000 on the latest car. I am amazed at how poor this situation has been handled given the overall simplicity of correcting the problem, install a matching Ford factory rear floor piece of carpet as promised. But instead we get a service advisor, a service manager and a store manager that all turn a deaf ear to the problem and expect it to go away. Take a look at the attached photos. Would you be satisfied with this repair? We certainly are not and suspect that most, if not all, of Carmax's employees would not be either if this was their car. We are contacting Carmax's corporate customer service department directly and are hoping to have this situation resolved soon. read more

I have to update this review after being completely deceived by CarMax. As you can see - I gave them 5 stars before. I was that pleased with everything. But only 2 months after I bought my car I noticed the brakes making a funny noise and took it into their service center. Since I'd purchased the most expensive warranty - the one I'd been told covered "everything - even your sound system!" - I knew that whatever was wrong with my car would be fixed promptly. Oh, how wrong I was. The guy in the service center originally told me my struts were bad and they'd fix them no problem, since they were covered by the warranty. About 2 hours later he called me back and said "Sorry, I was wrong about that. Your car doesn't have struts. It is actually the shocks that are bad and they aren't covered by warranty. Your total will be $927." WHAT THE WHAT?! Shocks are not normal maintainence when they go bad at less than 18k miles on the car, you idiots. (Of course I didn't say that out loud) And you originally told me it was the struts when you're now telling me my car doesn't even HAVE struts? That's a new level of incompetence. In the end it wasn't just the shocks that needed to be repaired, but some other super expensive stuff that they said was damaged by the bad shocks. Oh, and that brake noise (the original reason I went there)? They said it was nothing. I called the CarMax customer service people to let them know how dissatisfied I was with this service. At this point I'd purchased 3 cars from them, 2 extended warranties and spent ridiculous amounts in their service center over the years. I'd just bought the car from them and they couldn't do anything to correct the problem? The woman I spoke to in customer service told me she'd look into the situation and call me back. Do you think she ever called back? Hell no. I'll never go back and I will discourage anyone I speak to from going there. Oh, and the best part was - I went for a second opinion on the work they said was necessary and the very honest mechanic (James at Friends' Auto on Pleasant Hill) said that only one of my shocks was bad and the brakes needed to be replaced. After a pretty harrowing experience (my wife was carjacked, she's fine now), we decided to get her a new minivan. I did my shopping online, and the vehicle we wanted was in stock at Carmax. We' have four kids so we packed them all up and took them to the Carmax store to make a family outing of buying a new car (probably not the best idea I've ever had). The salesperson was polite and professional, and we did the test drive thing. All was well and good. Now perhaps I'm spoiled and used to the BMW/Lexus/Infiniti treatment. In any case, we agreed to the purchase price, and after looking at the options, I took the 1.9% they were offering over 3 years instead of just paying for the vehicle and getting a $2500 cash back. Well to make a looooong story short, we get qualified, I go back to the credit desk and sign the paperwork, and everything is finally about to be wrapped up. Took about 2 hours, when it was supposed to only take 30 minutes or so, but I thought everything was fine. Then after I've signed the paperwork, they say we can't leave with the vehicle because my wife, whose name the car title was under, did not have her drivers license (it had been stolen in the car jacking). I guess that is somewhat understandable, but I had my license with me, I was a cosigner on the loan, although not the title. I definitely think they shouldn't have made us wait for several hours and go through all the paperwork only to spring on us at the last minute that we would not actually be able to leave with the car that day. We had told them from the very beginning that my wife didn't have her license with her because it had been stolen, and it didn't interfere with the test drive at all. I told them that the BMW place let me test-drive a car overnight before, and that I'd leave my credit cards with them and even the title itself. We just wanted to leave with the freaking car we had just bought. They said they couldn't do that, corporate rules and everything. I told them there had to be something they could do, because we were going to buy that car, and that we had in fact, already done so, but if they refused to let me leave in my own car, then they were going to have to unwind the deal and it was going to be their car not mine, and that I was going to go buy it the next day from somewhere else. Sure enough, they would not let us leave with the car. They said they'd save the paperwork and we'd have to come back after she got her license replaced. I made them shred the paperwork, undo the deal, and we went and bought the same vehicle the next day at another dealership that matched Carmax's price. On the resale of our old van, they offered $3000 for a luxury-equipped 2002 Chevy Express (full size, not a minivan, they stopped making them in 2002). I sold it on Yahoo Cars for around $7K I think. Took a few months though. You definitely don't want to sell your car to Carmax unless you are really, really desperate to get rid of it fast. read more

My rating may go up or down depending on my experience with the service department this upcoming Friday. I totaled my car on 11/2. Once I got official word that my car was totaled from the insurance company on 11/4, I begin looking for a new car. I knew I didn't want a brand new car again, so I decided to look at Carmax since they are no-haggle and I don't have to worry about being screwed over with the price of the car. I found a car I liked online and requested information on financing. Alicia Nelson called me 30 minutes later and we did the application over the phone and she presented me with three offers. I arranged to come in that Friday 11/8, and Alicia was nice enough to put a sold sign on the car I liked so no one would buy it before I came in. I got there Friday around 1:15pm, I looked at an Infiniti G37, Kia Optima, and finally my car. I fell in love with my car and Alicia made the deal happen. I was out the door in my new car by 3:20pm. My mom noticed some fine scratches on the hood of my car and the rear drivers door so Alicia wrote me a service request to get those buffed out. I was NOT IMPRESSED with the job they did detailing the outside of the car but Alicia assured me when I came back to get the scratches buffed they would detail it again. *fingers crossed* Anyway, I noticed the car needs an alignment and the drivers side power window squeaks when rolled up so I will be getting those things along with the scratches buffed out taken care of on Friday. I've been waiting a few weeks to write this review, to give Carmax a chance to make amends for the mistakes they've made, but I've only had further trouble, ignored phone calls, and statements/voicemails that were not fulfilled. I truly wish I had gone to a dealer, haggled on a price, porbably overpaid a little, but had a better experience and a more trustworthy car!! SHORT VERSION: PROS: -They bought my old car and gave me a fair price. It was quick and painless. -The car I bought from them was a decent price -The cost to reinstate the manufacturer's warranty on a used car is very reasonable and worth the peace of mind -My salesperson was attentive to me and knowledgeable about the car I wanted CONS: -It took four days of waiting for a car to transfer from a nearby location, only to be told it was not able to be transferred because that car wouldn't start, and: -The first car I wanted was a lemon -A very lengthy process to purchase a car -Completely unable to help me transfer the car tags/title to my home state, and: -Business office lost/misplaced paperwork, and: -Business office filled out paperwork incorrectly so I was unable to register my car -They damaged a smart key and it took weeks to replace -I'm still waiting on a replacement owner's manual -Not good with following through on their word or communicating NO, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CARMAX TO A FRIEND. DETAILED VERSION: First, I had requested a car to be transferred from another location. The salesperson said she could get the car the next day. On day four, I found out the car could not be delivered because the battery was dead in the car. This was very scary since I was shopping for a hybrid that is battery-dependent and the car only had 1000 miles on it. Maybe that one was just a dud, but it was a red flag I wish I had heeded. It made me question the "125+ point inspection." So my salesperson was quick to find an almost identical car and picked it up from another location herself. I ended up purchasing this car. I knew I wanted this car when I walked in the door, but it still took FOUR hours to go through all the paperwork with the business office. Even though I came on a Monday night with an appointment, I was sitting in a waiting room for half of that time doing nothing. It probably took 1/8th that time to purchase my previous vehicle; I was so frustrated with how slow everything was moving. They put gas in the car, which was nice, but the car was dirty when it was finally time to go. The service department smashed and shattered one of the two smart keys to the car, which they said, "Oh, no big deal, we'll mail you a new one!" It ended up being a big nuisance. It took about a week to get someone on the phone who remembered my situation and that they owed me a replacement key. It actually required three appointments back at Carmax and 6 weeks of waiting to get that key replaced!! At first they asked me to front the $250 for the replacement key PLUS the cost of having a technician come and re-program the key. Instead, I called a different Carmax and they not only didn't bill me ANYTHING, they had a programmer meet me at my house at my convenience! At the time of purchase, they took my insurance card and made copies, but lost the copies. Since I live several hours away from this Carmax in another state, I had to fax down new copies to them. Also, they incorrectly filled out my paperwork as I was transferring my car to my home state. They ended up fedex'ing additional paperwork to me, I filled it out and had to fedex it back. All of this took another week and delayed my ability to register my car. They were clueless on how to buy a car in Georgia and register it in another state, at first telling me they didn't know how, then later giving me all wrong information (my local DMV helped me sort it out). They were also off on the cost of taxes and fees by $1,200. Clueless!! My car also did not have an owner's manual with it. They said they would have one mailed to me direct. Six weeks later, three phone calls that were not returned, two complaints to corporate Carmax, I have not received that manual. To be honest, I don't trust them to reimburse me either. Now the car handle on my driver's door is sticking and doesn't open. I wish I had never trusted the vehicles at this Carmax nor any of the staff!! read more

Have as of yesterday both bought and sold at this CarMax, and I am hooked. Several months ago, Boyfriend and I went looking for a car, ideally a used Civic. There are lots of dealerships on this stretch of road, and CarMax was the last place we checked, like a half hour before they were to close. We didn't expect to find a car, but we did, a 2007 Civic Hybrid with low mileage priced for $1,000+ under Blue Book. The test drive was great, with the salesman cheerfully detailing the little nuances of driving a hybrid. We surprised ourselves by wanting to take it home, and the salesman (WISH I could remember his name) ended up staying 45 minutes past closing time to finish up the paperwork with us. A total breeze, and we're still in love with our car. (NOTE: Can't speak about their financing, as we didn't use it.) Yesterday, after being burned by the Buckhead CarMax Car Buying Center (there is a review of that experience as well, oh yessiree), I took my Malibu (SOB) to this CarMax to sell. Despite the situation being slightly complicated, as the car was in my Mom's name, and she is in Chicago (a Power-of-Attorney sitch), I was out the door in 25 minutes. Robin, the manager-on-duty, despite clearly having her hands full, was good-natured, extremely helpful, and great to deal with. She walked me through what was going on step-by-step, and as I signed my baby away (SOB!) she had a guy bring me my license plates. Then she apologized for it taking so long, which shocked me, as we didn't even spend a half-hour in the place on a busy Saturday afternoon. Snaps for CarMax. Who are we kidding, no haggle price exists everywhere because of the info age. It really just benefits the dealer; it's a way to say, the car cost what the sticker says. There are no dealers that haggle over the price anymore. It's all about the trade in and KB is honing in on that wiggle room. CarMax should stop pretending it's in it for the consumer. I don't believe I've ever had a better car buying experience (from a dealer)! No haggle means "no haggle". That simplifies things considerably. They know they're not going to be able to sell their cars if they overprice them and you know you don't have to play any games--just find the car you're looking for. They make that easy--and don't really care much which car you buy. They've got to sell them all, anyway. Their ability and willingness to bring cars in from other lots gives lots of choices, and they were efficient and flexible in arranging this for me. Harold was reasonably informative and willing to help research issues he wasn't familiar with. He also got back to me as promised regarding several issues during the one week period I was working with him. I didn't finance so can't comment there, but their business department was quite efficient in wrapping things up and did as promised, other than a slight delay in refunding me for the owner's manual that I had to buy--because it was missing from the car I chose. Even after I was out of the seven day return period, when their responsibility and likelihood of losing a sale obviously diminishes, Harold's follow up on a couple of minor issues was exemplary. There was an annoying rattle in the back end of the car that only showed up after a couple of weeks. Also, my battery died twice on the 2009 Honda Accord I chose. when I took it to their service department Belinda was right on top of both issues. Even when I told her that the battery might be a non-issue as two other service departments had checked it and found it okay she insisted that they check it again. It was found defective and replaced under warranty, as was the irritating rattle resolved to my satisfaction. This, even though on-line I had read many reviews from people who had had the same issue and been given absurd quotes on getting rid of it. Turns out it is a "known issue" and there is a service bulletin out on it. They went right to this, found it and resolved it the same morning. THey also took me out on a test ride to make sure I was happy with the work. Two weeks later I am loving my quiet and presumable reliable car! Job well done, folks. Many thanks. From talking to everyone I know, I was expecting a long, grueling car buying process. Thankfully, this was not the case :) ** I called CarMax to see if they had any Hybrids at the lot in Norcross for me to look at and they said they had a few mid-size/crossovers that may fit what I'm looking for. Great - hopped in my (old) car and went over. Immediately we were helped by Steve H. - who ended up being our primary sales rep. He took me over to a Ford C-Max they had and Blake (an up and coming sales rep) came with us. I decided to take it for a test drive - I liked the car, but it had too many miles on it so we went back to Steve's office and he looked up a C Max Energi Hybrid with under 20,000 miles at a different location. Steve immediately put in for the transfer and we left. It took only 2 days to transfer the car! In the meantime, Steve took pictures of the car knowing that we were looking for something with some decent trunk space and texted them to me. We set up a follow up appt via text as well. We went in to check out the car and I FELL IN LOVE. Took it for a test drive, continued to love it and we bought it! Steve and Blake waited patiently while I set up my insurance. I then went and filled out a ton of forms to make everything official and then went out and saw my new car...with a bow on it! There was no pressure whatsoever (the sales reps get paid the same commission no matter what car you buy). Quick, painless process. I've been driving the car for going on 3 weeks and everything is going great. We were offered the same price that a local Toyota dealership had offerred, but without the "character-building experience" of haggling the dealership's initial lowball offer. I can't say that I have ever been thrilled to visit any car dealership or service center. Usually the experience ends up costing something that I wasn't planning on spending but until we have suitable public transportation, CarMax is the way to go. I purchased my vehicle from CarMax in 2008 and I have used their service center for any repairs since then. They seem to be honest and knowledgeable and they make an effort to accommodate unforeseen circumstances that result in unscheduled visits. I also like that this location is a Jeep dealership. I probably will never drive anything other than a Jeep so it is nice to have new as well as used options here. The dealers are friendly and personable and they will give you space if you tell them you do not need assistance. My last stroll through the lot did not result in a purchase, but you never know when the new car fever could strike again. read more

I've purchased two vehicles from CarMax, one from this location. I did decide to purchase the extended warranty and it paid for itself with one repair (BMW pump). Their model is as cut and dried as it gets in dealing with ether buying or selling a vehicle. With realistic expectations as to what the car buying experience can be at a regular dealership, both purchases were painless and quick. Everything was ruined, however, by someone in the back office calling me weeks later. Said (erroneously) that I needed to have a GA drivers license to get plates. Threatened me with a short deadline to resolve. Said he would take car back and make me repay loan (I had no loan). Took me several phone calls to get to someone who knew what they were doing. CarMax makes buying a car much less stressful than dealing with the haggling and bartering at the typical car "dealership" that has some (living or dead) man's name on it. (Who are those people who have their names on acres of concrete and asphalt? What kind of egos do they have?) CarMax comes across a brand ready to compete with efficiency and orderliness. The CarMax website allows for comparison shopping and you can visit the actual lot when you decide on what you want to see in person from the site. The check-out process can be time-consuming, but no more so than at the typical "dealership." We found the loan rates at CarMax to be highly competitive with local financial institutions. They even beat a loan quote given by (actually not "given", but pulled out of by the skin of their teeth) Associated Credit Union. This would be a five-star review if their service department was open on saturdays ... their monday-friday is a tad bit inconvenient. read more

Thursday afternoon, I try to start my car and it's dead again. I call you guys to get it looked at and instead of having me come in, you sent me to a local place that charged me $150 deductible and then insisted I needed a new battery with my brand new alternator and what do you know, that's not covered under the warranty so $190. I'm pretty sure they put an airplane battery in for $190. Regardless, I get it home, on Saturday because of course it took more than a day, park it in my driveway, get up to go to work Sunday morning...DEAD. So, the $1,000 that this mechanic is getting for an alternator and a new battery, was a complete waste. I won't even get into how they CLEARLY overcharged for both parts and labor. So. I requested a tow truck that said THREE HOURS. Waited 2 1/2 hours when they finally said they were on their way and then 20 minutes later, it showed cancelled because apparently, they couldn't get ahold of ya'll. ABS Automotive. So, your call center agent gets another tow company that says 90 minutes and here I am 2 hours later and still no tow. just got off the phone with them and they claim they don't have a work order for my car. So, it's now 8pm, I have been trying to get someone to come and get this pos car, to get it back to the pos mechanic you sent me to, and I've been literally stranded since Thursday the 10th. This is all because you sent me to a mechanic near me to fix the problem and they didn't fix it properly. I've been without a vehicle since THURSDAY the 10th and ( I am currently updating this on the 22nd). I have missed THREE days of work. I am absolutely disgusted by this entire process. I honestly don't even know what to do right now and ya'll are refusing to HELP ME!!!! Update: now day 11. Got it home again for the second time from Alpha Automotive in Dallas, GA and it is ONCE AGAIN not starting. Spoke to a manager in the business department at your Kennesaw location who had no clue what to even say to me so she appeased me by saying she would send the service department an email to let them know it's being towed in, which, by the way, the service secretary said she never received. Update: day 12. I got it towed into CarMax in Kennesaw. I spoke to a woman who blatantly lied about being the service manager when in reality, she is only a secretary, Mya. She was extremely rude and dismissive. She basically told me that it was going to be a "few weeks" before they could even look at it for a diagnostic and that they don't do loaner cars. So, basically, they are refusing to FIX MY CAR EVEN THOUGH ITS UNDER WARRANTY. They literally don't give a crap about me or about this car. I told them I was going to have to come get my stuff and let them keep the car and he (Ryan, the actual service "manager") literally said, "you handle it however you need to." He said I needed an "appointment" to get my car looked at and I'm so boggled because HOW do you schedule an appointment for a car not working? "Hey Ryan, my car is going to break down sometime next week so can I make an appointment?" Um, what?? I have NEVER experienced anything like this and my next step will be contacting the media and getting a lawyer and going to small claims court because not only am I completely stranded, I am MISSING WORK and you people are refusing to help me even though it's COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY!!!! You sold me a car under fraudulent terms, claiming it was under warranty and now you're refusing to fix it or even help me get it fixed....I have come out of pocket $350 for a battery that the car didn't even need, and I am losing wages because of this. My parents went to look at a specific vehicle today. I usually assist them with all their vehicle purchases. They met with Nick (Stamp I think? ) anyway I was getting a migraine and I needed to leave. I was there while my mom asked questions and his answers were honest and he listened to her. After following up with my parents they informed me they were pretty impressed with Nick and his customer service skills. I'm relieved and they will more than likely purchase a vehicle at Carmax bc of him. We had just left a dealership and the experience was the complete opposite of what we received at Carmax.
