The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of Cornelia who helped us. She wasn't the most knowledgeable but she was kind and willing to help. When we walked in, we practically had to beg for someone to help us (with the manager standing right there) we didn't even get a "hello" or even a smile. We soon met Cornelia and she showed us some cars and we test drove a couple. While filling up the gas tank on site, she received a phone call and answered. It was someone from inside calling her to make sure that I was with my parents for the test drive. I'm 22. I was upset that they had assumed I was underage and incapable of test driving a car. I make my own money, and did not need my parents to be there (even though I wanted them to be for moral support!) I did not think it was very professional to 1. Call her while on a test drive and 2. In early December I went with my daughter, which served 10 years in the Marines and is 100% disabled to CarMax to have a vehicle transferred from Dallas to Houston. She paid the 149.00 for the Toyota Highlander we were having shipped , and from pictures it looked to be in excellent condition with only 13,000 miles and no record of any accidents. The salesperson was professional and courteous and asked the people there in Dallas if there was any issues and they said no. When the vehicle arrived we went in to look at it and were we ever disappointed & surprised, it had obviously been hit in the rear. There was paint overspray, the seal around the back hatch was falling off, scratches all over the cargo area and after we opened the hatch it wouldn't close. We refused to accept the car because we felt it was misrepresented from CarMax. We found a vehicle at another dealer that was nicer and a better deal. Carmax refuses to refund my daughters 149.00 even though the vehicle they transferred was totally misrepresented. Buyers beware of paying to transfer a vehicle, what they represent may not be what you get. read more

The 3 stars is for customer service alone. Without the good customer service my wife and I got, I would have rated it lower. The cars we test drove were dirty and had trash in some of them. One of the newer vehicles we test drove had scuffs on the back driver side and the fender was bent, which was not on the carfax report. So if you buy a car there I recommend doing a full inspection first on your own. The salesman was not pushy at all and was very patient to let us look at all the cars we wanted to. I would recommend test driving here to find the car you like, but beware of the vehicle's possible damage if you buy from here and go to another location to buy it. read more

We had problems with our Mitsubishi we purchased from Carmax. It was 9 months after we purchased it, so they did not have to help us but their Service Manager Nathan went out of his way to help us resolve the issue. He was kind, concerned and involved in finding a solution for the problem saving us a $10,000. repair bill. I think he was almost as happy as we were when it was resolved. read more

It was a really bad experience. I bought a car. One week later they asked me to go to the Carmax office because they needed to check my SS card again. Of course I went there and they asked me to enter my information in the Social Security web page and I did it. The system showed that they couldn't verify all the information. I told them that I could go to the Social Security office to find out what was the problem on the system, but they don't care and took all my stuff out the car and took the car. They didn't care about anything. The day after I went to the Security office and they told me that CARMAX made a BIG MISTAKE because they tried to check my Social Security card through a system that is just for Citizens. I am a legal resident but I am not a citizen. And the worse part is that they still have my down payment. The Manager "Dee" from CARMAX North Houston treated me awful and with discrimination. My purchase went well. I had the vehicle transported from another location in Texas. The vehicle was exactly as described. Salesperson was very nice. While I did not have the hassle of a regular car dealership with negotiations, I will and have gone through some pain if it will save me money. I did feel like that the transportation fee should have been subtracted from the purchase price since I did buy the vehicle. I can see this fee being non-refundable if I would not have bought the vehicle. Otherwise, it was a decent experience that went rather quickly. I would consider using CarMax again. read more

Pretty good experience, especially compared to the typical car dealership. We used the Carmax location between The Woodlands and Houston on I-45. Had an appointment at 9am, test drove several cars, checked financing options, was out the door around 12:30. The price is the price, and they seem to follow KBB fairly closely. So nice not to be pressured. Liked our sales guy (Kyle Manning). He's a smart, nice person who is just doing this until he gets into dental school. They have a lot of inventory and can get cars from other locations if desired. The back office was efficient, they seemed to get all the paperwork ready in like 15 minutes. I like that they provide a 5-day change your mind clause and a 30-day warranty. No complaints. read more

I made a my second purchase from Carmax on 1/13/2017. Christopher Ruff, the sales representative was very responsive prior to the sale. He texted me, which I appreciated because I hate receiving excessive amount of calls. He transferred two vehicles I was interested in. He was easy going during my visit, provided all the information I requested. Did not pressure me into buying either vehicles. I was very impressed with his attitude which made the purchase process effortless. once the transaction was consummated, he vanished. He did not reply to my text messages. He said he would call me and never did. I was shocked. I felt like a "one night stand". So disappointing. read more

I don't know if it's a good place to sell your car but it's a TERRIBLE place to buy a car. HIGHWAY ROBBERY. First off, they have only "no haggle" price which is a scam. They will not accept any offer below what they want to get for the car. It's very weird for the used car market. Second off, when it comes to financing they will give you the most crazy high interest rate, even if you have good credit. They do it smoothly and then you end up paying two times the car in interest. You'd better use your credit card rather than their financing. Use them only as your last resort! read more

I caution every individual that brings their car to Carmax. I'm a licensed auto insurance adjuster for the state of Texas among many other states. I brought my low mileage 2007 Infinity M45 to a Carmax in the Houston area. This car will easily fall under the "Very Good" condition as per the Kelly Blue Book / NADA values. The range for this car is between $17,600 and $13,300 (fair) for private seller pricing. It is between $16,800 and $13,300 trade-in. Knowing that Carmax values your car at "average auction" pricing is unnerving to many extents, but I was confident they would see this cars' value. After their inspection, they came back with my offer of $6000. When I asked why such an insult of a low-ball offer, they explained my car has frame damage. Really? I have a clear blue title in hand. The area that they are saying has frame damage was repainted. Paint and frame damage are quite a bit different. The "inspector" had gone as far as pulling the weatherstriping back from the area nearest the "frame damage" which clearly showed the original clamp welds. Needless to say, their "inspectors" or "evaluation experts" more than likely don't know what they're looking at. By the way, I also build race cars as a hobby and have a thorough understanding of frame alignment and subframe style chassis. Bottom line: instead of giving me an excuse for an insult of an offer, just tell me you don't want to buy it. Saves everyone time and headache. Never again Carmax! Never again! read more

After my last was was hit and totaled, went to CarMax. Test drove a couple of nice cars before seeing the perfect car for me. Had all the bells and whistles (nav, moonroof, touchscreen, sport pkg., etc, etc...) and hit my budget numbers. However, the battery was dead, so no test drive. My sales rep (Brad Wolfe) said he would not only hold the car, he would get the battery checked. Showed up the next day, the battery was replaced, test drive taken, and after a short while, I'm now the owner of a 2014 fully loaded sports sedan. This is my third car purchased from CarMax and would not hesitate to recommend them for late model buyers who don't like the hassle of "traditional" dealerships. read more

Oh, where to begin?...I scheduled a time to come in to test drive 2 vehicles, request a transfer for a 3rd to test drive, and get a quote for trading in my current car. When someone was finally able to help me, he put the request for appraisal in for my car and then left me sitting at the desk for 30 minutes. He didn't even offer to let me test drive the other 2 vehicles there while waiting for the appraisal but was ready to put my information in to get approved for the car being transferred (which happened to be the most expensive one) as soon as the appraisal report was ready. Now as for their report...it was full of inaccuracies. It stated that my current vehicle had frame damage, that the hood and front fender were not original, and that there was a report with the state that my vehicle had been overturned in a previous accident. Needless to say, they offered me 50% of what the car is worth according to CarFax, which does not reflect any incidents or claims for damage, repairs, or issues that would validate their findings in their report. This was just an all-around bad experience and I won't be going back. read more

We bought a used car last fall from a regular dealer, and it was stressful and annoying and took forever. So this time around, when we needed another car, I looked into CarMax. I found a van I liked online, then requested a transfer to the store I wanted to go to. Once it was in, we showed up, test drove it, and didn't get any hassles about financing or price. They bought our old van from us for slightly more than we expected to get, which was also nice. The paperwork did take a while because we came in on a Saturday and it was super-busy. But our sales guy (Mitch, although I also talked with Autumn on the phone) was friendly and patient, and was able to keep us in the loop about how long the process would take. We brought our 4 kids in, and everyone involved was helpful to our children, giving them water and finding them chairs and such. It was so much less stressful than dealing with the regular dealer! I'd highly recommend them to anyone who doesn't like the high-pressure environment of a typical car dealer. read more

We just bought a car yesterday evening, and I want to give a shout-out to Catrina, our sales consultant, and Phaedria, our Business Office Associate. I knew what I wanted when I came in (do your research!). Wanted my son to feel involved in the selection, so when the Honda I wanted hit my e-mail box (set up a Saved Search on the carmax app and it will e-mail you when your car becomes available), I booked a test-drive (yes, you can do that). Catrina e-mailed me the next morning and from then on, she impressed us mightily. The test drive convinced me to go ahead and buy, if the trade-in and financing offers were in line. The rest of the process, though standard CarMax (no-haggle trade-in offer, no-haggle price, no-haggle financing), was just amazing. My son and I were treated like royalty - we truly felt like the only customers in the whole place, though every single sales cubicle was filled that afternoon. My husband and I were looking to purchase a new car and had saw one online at this location that we really were interested in. When we had visited CarMax, we had the most unbelievable experience ever. When we walked in, there were two car salesmen standing on the side just talking to each other. We have never been to a CarMax before so we weren't sure what to do. We walked around inside, waiting for someone to help us and no one didn't even budge. Finally, we thought we might receive help when we take a walk outside, but we walked around for 15 minutes and still, no one. We went back inside and a gentleman had looked up at us then proceeded to go back to his cell phone. We left and went to the dealer next door. Obviously they do not want our business that bad if they didn't even say, "hello". Our experience next door was totally opposite and unfortunately for CarMax, they lost out on our business.
