Time to sell my vehicle. This is the 2nd one I have sold to CarMax. Why? They give the best pricing anywhere I found... both times! Easy too. I did it online. BUT I do go in and get an inspection to make sure they honor the online quote. Originally I had gone to the Oak Lawn location for this inspection due to the fact I was closer to it at the time. I also sold a vehicle to this location. It was quick and easy and fast. This time, Hillside was closer to my location that day and a VERY easy shot to the 290 and back home. SOOOOO close. It is literally outside their parking lot. This location is GINORMOUS... as if that was actually a word. It is 2 to 3x the size of the Oak Lawn location, or at least it seems it. They were very busy at the Business Office. A nice man greeted me and told me about most of the process, and that mine might take a bit longer as I had the inspection done in Oak Lawn and not their Hillside location. I did see, after about 30 minutes, someone from Carmax drove my car somewhere, and it went thru a gate. I did not see the car ever again after that. I asked the gal at the front desk of the Business Office. She said it went to a secured lot, and they were getting ready to finalize my deal. After about a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes, my sale was done. Yep, as quoted. I always worry they might rescind and offer and play games, but honestly, since I was honest and did my due diligence to take the car in to be seen, they honored their online pricing. Summer was the nice young woman at the front desk. She actually apologized if she seemed rude earlier, but there was a lot of stress from something else. She was very sweet, and I told her she was not rude. It was clear she was swamped with something. She was actually so sweet that she told me to get home safely. Bloomington Illinois CarMax I researched the CARFAX on my car that I traded/sold to CarMax December 2023. Found out that the miles were set back by 100,000. That car had 215,00O miles on the date of transaction. The report says sold at 115,000. It shows Branded Title. Not actual mileage. The trade was $1200.00. Get the retail value was listed on CARFAX as $6840. I am horrified knowing this !!!! There is deception in so many ways. I want to now sell the car I purchased from them because within 3 weeks, the battery cable became disconnected. CarMax repaired it but it was still an inconvenience. Makes me wonder how truthful they were about that car. Very disappointed and after learning about this ...will not recommend. Sadly I told the manager how much that car meant to me....and how I asked them to be fair and honest on their intentions. I purchased a 2014 Chevy Malibu in March and had to bring the car back 7 times There was a noise at 1st and they continually couldn't figure out what it was and the 3rd time I took it in was for the breaks. Then my check engine light went on n off n they couldn't fix it because they couldn't figure out why it went on in the 1st place. It came on again so they changed my air intake manifold. Then the oil light came on n there was no oil in it. So the lady on the phone was extremely rude and said u need to get an oil change every 3 months. It was almost 3.5 months So my response was the oil should be black not nonexistent. The shaking was never resolved. After bringing it in multiple times they sent it to a transmission shop that worked on it. Got it back and the shaking continued. Then they changed a coil and spark plugs for a misfire and the shaking continued so it is currently at a Chevy dealer to diagnose but the burning oil issue has not been resolved either. This has been an extreme inconvenience since literally day one. Needless to say, I will never buy a car from them EVER AGAIN n I will continue to tell people about my experience bc I don't want others to go thru what I have gone thru. read more

got my car on a monday from Schaumburg location, by time Saturday came of the same week, car wouldn't start check engine light came on. Took car to hillside location found out i needed a new battery. After car was serviced I received it back with no front plate as well as knicks and scratches all over my front bumper. One service tech tried to tell me the scratches were already "repainted" as if when I initially got the car it looked that way, which was a lie. Had to leave my car again . Go to dmv get a replacement temp plate. Two days later after the bumper is replaced and repainted I have my car back with knicks and scratches in other places. At this point I'm over it i have not reached out about the new scratches and i don't plan to this entire process was very frustrating! Beware of the finance company CarMax uses in Georgia. Once you pay off your car, they say they must hold it for 5 days then they will mail it to you. Well, I just called CS Finance and today is the 7th business day, yet my title still hasnt been sent out to me. I asked the CSR if they could expedite it to me and she said, no not without a supervisor signing off on it. She said they only way a supervisor would approve it would be if I state Im going out of the country! I said, thats not right. At this point, I need a supervisor to approve the expedited shipping of my title and send it to me, since its the 7 day. Please, someone send me my title. Long story short, this dealership has assisted me on numerous occasions for a vehicle I bought July of last year. However, when we showed up (on time) for our appointment, we were told there were "a few people" ahead of us. When we asked the wait time, the answer was at least 45 minutes. I have owned 3 cars through carmax and carmax auto finance. Each time the service has continued to deteriorate. They make it a huge inconvenience to make payments on time. It's unnecessarily complex, you make the payment through your bank account on the app. and they don't run it for a few days. It often hits after other things it the account and then it bounces back, now there's a late fee. They won't let you use a card until it's past due. In other words set it up so payments are late and you are constantly paying late fees. They were supposed to send me the title of my old vehicle. It came 3 months later, after they already accepted the Venice for trade , you guessed it another 50$ fee. I wonder how much they make in these extra fees? I'll be looking to refinance immediately w a company that makes it easy to pay without racking up service fees. I see why companies like Carvana have taken off. I'm so disgusted with this branch. I requested an online quote for my car and given a reference number. On their website, it offers the option to have someone else to bring in the car. I sent my family in because I just tested positive for CoVid AND had an ankle fusion surgery. I sent them with all the required documents; the signed title, registration, my drivers license and even sent them my marriage certificate to verify that I indeed am selling the car. After my family waited an hour and a half waiting for the appraisal, knowing full well I was not there from the start, was told that I needed to be the one to sign the documents to actually sell it. WHAT?!?! You allowed my family to sit there waiting only to be told that I NEEDED to be there?!?! I offered to have the docs sent electronically for me to sign, nope! Apparently they live in the dark ages and do not have the technology to handle that. I can buy a house with electronic signatures, and yet I can't sell a car to a freaking Carmax. I even spoke to a sales manager and she couldn't give me any answers. It's a total sham!!! What a crappy way to do business. Never go here. read more

About two plus weeks after I got my car, they called to notify me that they gave me the wrong license plates after I've been driving around with the wrong ones, through tolls and all. Now I've set an oil change appointment well over a month ago because of their available openings, just to get there for them to say it was for the next day(I know I set it for today, they must've went in and moved it until tomorrow) . I didn't get a confirmation email, text or anything. I set it in my notes! Today is a holiday in which I didn't realize when I booked it. But I was told they had limited workers. Better than dealing with a sales man at a dealership although you still have to filter through what they tell you. Make sure they show proof of what they are saying. I was told by Mark there that my warranty was covered up to 48 month or 150,000 miles with the warranty I am still paying for. Ended up being 48 months or 125,000. Left a bad feeling after that and a few other incidents. Also make sure you take advantage of the automatic warranty of 90 days or 4,000 miles. My focus went without heat for over a week trying to get it in. This was also in the middle of January during the worst time and I have to travel with my 1 year old daughter. They said a cracked coolant tank was messing with it. Luckily they honored it and also gave me a loaner car. I suggest taking the car to get inspected right after the paperwork. This place may not screw you on the price of the car but you aren't getting a deal either. read more

Last Saturday April 30th my parents came to test drive a car and we're scammed by sales person Mohammad Shehadeh. He informed my parents they cannot look at the car or test drive it until they completed the purchase. Being that my father is 80 and my mother is 60 they did as he pressured them to do including paying $2,000 for a car he refused to allow them to see until they paid. I'm sad to share, I had the worst experience with CarMax and CarMax Hillside. Top line here is I will never purchase a car from this company. My wife and I began looking for a new car, and had a specific car in mind. We were able to find 2 models available at different CarMax's outside of Illinois. After speaking with an initial representative, I decided to pay the shipping fee to Hillside, IL to see the car and test drive. Every chance they had, CarMax tried to get me to purchase the car sight unseen because of their "30 day return" policy. No biggie though, wasn't going to do that, and it didn't seem to be issue - at least with the people on the phone. Car came in 13 days, generally like expected and that's when thing got out of whack. Shipped with no title, so I had to wait 6 weeks to test drive the car until the title situation was worked out. I checked in after 3 weeks, was told still needed the three weeks. Ok, no problem, I was patient. Once the title came it was a mad rush to move me through financing and get in to see the vehicle. I was now in between several work trips and couldn't get to see the car quickly. Plus, there wasn't a good time to arrange for the 24hr test drive which was promised. I did finally schedule, but unfortunately had to bump my scheduled work travel by a day, and needed to reschedule. The manager at CarMax Hillside treated me like a crook. She fell just short of telling me I was wasting THEIR time after I waited 6 weeks for them to work everything out on the car. They ended up allowing me to reschedule, but at that point, my flags were raised. Once I got back from my trip, I reached out to see if I could go in a day earlier than my rescheduled appointment. I still wanted to do a 24hr test drive and knew they weren't open on Sundays. The phone rep was perfectly pleasant, I bumped the appointment up a day and thought things were smoothing out. I got pre-approved, I worked through their trade in estimator and got an instant quote. Walked in intending to be ready get the process moving, assuming we really liked the car. As soon as I walked in, I got a horrible vibe. They hassled me once again. Didn't want me to do a 24hr test drive, told me I could have 30 mins, then they could give me a few hours. I held my ground, and ultimately they like me do the 24hr test - not after reminding me fairly obnoxiously that the car is still there property. It's like every engagement, I was treated like a crook by the Hillside. My wife and I did a quick spin - her words, I want a car just like this. Problem is, the interior of the car was caked in dirt and wreaked of some kind of food. The exterior was covered in splattered bugs and clearly hadn't need washed. I drove away thinking they had no intention of selling me this car. I'm glad I pushed for the 24hr drive. The longer I had it, the more I noticed. Overall the car drove nice, but the experience and presentation of the car was just something I wasn't going to get past, not without some actual conversation and a little bit of humility from the CarMax team. I brought the car back the next morning, they asked me how it went. I told them the car drove great, but explained the issues and said I couldn't see myself leaving with car as it was. The attendant literally said, well we haven't touched it since it's just been waiting for a title. I was dumb founded - in 6 weeks they didn't lift a finger to clean up the car or prepare it for purchase. They told me to drive it around back, took the keys and that was that. Not an apology for giving me the car in that condition. Not a word of remorse about it not working out. Nothing - they got their money from me and at least by the way I was treated, I was in the wrong. Like I said at the top of this - buyer beware. I know a few folks that went the CarMax route before. CarMax is for quitters. No haggle comes at a premium. I literally said I would pay to buy any of 4 crossovers, 2 at $36K & 2 at $39K, if they gave me a fair number on my trade in. They did not. In conclusion I got a fair number which was only $1.5K off of what I was asking from them, and I paid less for the brand new crossover. I wanted $17K for my car, I ended up selling for $16.5. Also got the new crossover for less than any of their used ones. Currently 2 of the crossovers I wanted are still for sale 3 months later with reduced prices. The other two sold for reduced price Stock # 21462525 $36K, 11K miles. SOLD FOR $35K Stock # 20995210 ($1900 shipping) $39K, 15K miles. SOLD FOR $33K Stock # 21638673 $39K, 6K miles. I've had the worst experience ever!!!! I've been to the service department a million times since I financed my car. The dash board tells me i need to check my oil even shortly after receiving an oil change. I bring it in every time!! And I'm told oh we see there's oil in the car. Nothing is wrong. Fast forward today. I am out of a car because of some huge gas leak!!! Not only that, they're telling me I have to pay for the gas leak! I've brought this car in and expressed this issue even while the car had warranty. You allowed it to get worse! And now I have to pay. Absolutely not! We have been now waiting over an hour and a half for the Business Office to pull the plates and give us a check. The vehicle has no loan due or any attachments to the title.
