When we arrived we waited for an open salesperson, and fortunately for us we were assigned to a young salesman...Max Snyder. He was really knowledgeable and knew how to help us. It's not often that you have such a great experience when you're trying to buy a used car. However, Max was both honest and polite, helping us through each part of the process. Okay...pretty straight forward my wife Hates car lots so I found what she wanted and explained this to the salesperson, First the unit was filthy even though they said it had been detailed so the salesperson said for me to let her run it into detail and get it redone, so I left and came back and the unit had not been touched even though the salesperson said she put it into detail, so she got a manager out to show him and he told me if we bought it that they would give me a $400.00 discount to take it and get it detailed, I took it and showed it to my wife she liked it and so I went back and told them it would be a cash deal to them as we were going through the Credit Union so we made an appointment for the next day at 5:30 pm and the salesperson asked me to send a copy of wifes drivers License and a copy of our Ins and I included a copy of the loan approval and we were putting down $10k and the salesperson said she worked the next day and she would get everything set as I honestly and my Too don't like the 4 hour waiting to get things done so I wanted to have the paperwork ready for us...A simple deal for them! Well the next day I did not hear back from the salesperson and she never answered my texts or phone calls, So to save trouble I went in to see were we were at on the timeline....Well the salesperson was off and nothing to that point had been done so I asked for a Mgr and got some young gal who wanted to talk more than listen...I explained everything at least twice and she then turned me over to another salesperson and so I explained the whole deal to him and now we are delaying everything till the next day.....which is fine and so they said being as how everything is pretty basic that they would put us on the fast track and made an appointment for 3 the next day! Well we came in with a loan check from the Credit Union and a Cashiers check for the down drawn on the same credit union, now mind you I am 77 and my wife is 66 so we are not young criminals trying to defraud a dealership for a used truck! They said they had to verify the cashiers check and they wanted my wifes account# so they could verify that their were enough funds to cover the check? The cashiers check is drawn on the Credit union acct and the credit union pulls the money out of your checking once it is cashed, My wife told them you don't need to see how much money is in my acct that is private info and if your dumb enough to have to verify the CASHIERS Check then call the credit union, they insisted that they had to verify the money by looking into her acct and my wife said absolutely not and if that is your process then NO SALE and they said it was and we left. I tried to sell my 93 year old fathers truck to them with a notarized power of attorney and was rejected. They said they needed a form from the DMV with his signature notarized - note that the DMV doesn't require notarization for a vehicle poa. He's incapacitated in an assisted living facility, he can't sign anything now and that's why several years ago he created a trust and created the poa, the attorney said it would be more than sufficient for this situation. Carmax is making up their own rules, and ignoring legal forms while requiring forms from the State of CA to be notarized when it isn't required. They are discriminating against the elderly, insisting on signed and notarized forms from incapacitated car owners. Selling to them seemed to be a simple solution to dispose of his vehicle but they've created insurmountable hurdles, clearly creating a very bad experience while hiding behind the difficulty in dealing with the DMV. read more

My husband and I would come to check out their inventory. We would come pretty often so often some works would already recognize us. As you enter there's a counter where a worker greets you and asks how they can assist you. We usually just tell them we're browsing and we walk out to the parking lot. The past 2 recent visits we had my car apprised we didn't have an appointment so we were placed on the waiting list. This place can get busy so sometimes getting an appointment is best. The first time we waited about 45mins to get helped the second time it was about 10. The workers that had helped the past few times had been nice. We were happy with the amount we got my car appraised for special since the amount was wasn't changed after 2 months of my last appraisal. We went else where to get a trade in but my experience so far has been good. They have many selections to cars to choose from. They supposedly have no haggle pricing. Most cars on the lot comes with the fact sheets about the car and price. They allow customers to test drive but of course there is a wait if you don't have an appointment. read more

Never have I ever had a battery issue from the vehicles I've owned that I've bought off the "street" from random ass people. If I could give negative stars I would. Was scammed into a vehicle and after 3 months car breaks down. I was talked into the warranty that does no good when you can't get anybody to reach out to dealerships or warranty places to get anything down. At this point I feel like my car was stolen from Me. Got a car in August, it's not December and it broke down. We were told by CarMax to tow it over, as soon as it was dropped CarMax said they couldn't service it and to take it to Chrysler dodge so we got it towed to dodge, we bought coverage for up to 150k miles, our car broken down at 90k after 3 months. Dodge said they couldn't touch it after 100k which we too them it's at 90k, we were told that it's $250 deductible to fix and give them 3-5 days. On the 5th day, we called and they can't fix the car, the dealership ignored the mechanics calls to the point where the mechanic called us telling us CarMax was not answering for DAYS. We were then told by dodge that it was the #3 cylinder was leaking and faulty due to wear and tear and there is a chance it will not be covered by our maxcare. They then told us it was going to be a $5,400 deductible to fix if insurance doesn't cover. We went into CarMax and toms them about the warranty we purchased and were told the person who sold us that warranty no longer works there so "they could not help us". They will not touch our car unless we give them the okay to possibly have to pay that $5,400 and we said no so now it's sitting at dodge for two weeks now. We were told to come on the 24th to pick up the rental we were told would be ready for us and we just showed up and they are closed even though the sign online says they are open. We have been stuck without a car for 2 weeks now and they have done nothing to help. When I contacted the BBB, CarMax responded to our complaint saying this was the "first time" we have contacted them about his issue and to call them which is complete bullshit as we have gone in person multiple times as well as called dozens over the last two weeks along with the dealership mechanics. These last cheap fucks will do Just about anything to not take responsibility for a shit car that they sold us three months ago nor will do anything to offer to fix the mess they made. Kinda weird process in my eyes. Before they'll even tell you if they have any of the make/model you're looking for, they appraise the vehicle you drove on to the lot. OK, I'm curious, not that I was really planning on trading my Rav4 in. I'm looking for a play car, a C6 Corvette and wanted to check out an actual car. So, I sit down with a nice girl (5 stars for Artikar) and she starts collecting information. After she got what she needed, she asked for the keys for the appraiser. We then headed out to the lot. She had checked inventory on her computer and didn't come up with ANY Corvettes. She did say sometimes there may be some on the lot, even if they don't show on the computer. Surprise, there were ZERO actual Corvettes on the lot. So now I'm waiting for the appraised value of my car before I can be on my way. At least I'll have an offer, should I decide to let loose of the Rav4. Artikar told me to have a seat in the waiting area, so here I sit. A few minutes later, I was given back my keys and an offer for my RAV4. Turned out all OK, as I actually ended up trading in the RAV4, and the dealership in Roseville matched the offer I had been given at CarMax. read more

I had an awful experience with them today and want to discourage potential customers from having to endure the same so I am copying an email I sent to their representative, Riley Luce. Riley; Apparently no one in your store is any more interested in retaining a long term customer than you are. I responded to your earlier message regarding my scheduled appointment for today almost immediately, said I was available for the conversation you requested and would be until 9:15. Not only did I not get a call/text but neither did I get any explanatory message. I drove 30 minutes to my 11:30 appointment and got there 5 minutes early. When I went to check in I was told I had no appointment. I explained the situation to whoever was at the desk and was told I could wait if I wanted but there were four people in front of me. Despite my anger about the mishandling of my appointment I agreed to wait for awhile. After 35 minutes I went back to the desk and spoke with another employee who told me that rather than doing something to ameliorate the situation I was told that I had simply been relisted as a "walk in". When I asked to speak to the manager I was told he was busy. When I asked for an email address or a phone number where he could be reached I was told there were none available. at that store and that I should try getting the information from CarMax headquarters. At this point I told the employee to cancel the appointment and that I would be spending the rest of my day posting my woeful tale everywhere I could find on the internet and would be forwarding this message to that same headquarters. At no time, from the very beginning of this mess, did anyone I spoke with offer to do anything to expediate my wait time. Just for the record, I have purchased three cars from CarMax in the past several years as well as selling them one of my own. Obviously I won't in a hurry to deal with CarMax again and I will do anything I can do dissuade any family or friends from making the same mistake I did.. I had my own business for more than 30 years and in that time I learned that there was nothing more valuable to a business than customer loyalty. Do not buy a car from here! My car has had a laundry list of problems since the day I pulled off the car lot. They fixed a few of the problems within the 30 day warranty, but then a lot of the other problems happened right after the 30 days. From EXTREME engine problems SUCH AS CYLINDERS MISFIRING, AND THE DRIVETRAIN SYSTEM BEING MESSED UP, to minor problems, such as the sunroof not closing, interior lights not working, and everything in between. My car leaks a tremendous amount of oil, to where I have to put 2 quarts in every few weeks. Two of the tires on the car had already gone flat, and Carmax didn't put a spare tire or rim in the back of the car trunk compartment!!!! I was completely stranded with my son in the middle of nowhere!!!! Today I just had to replace the spark plugs and get a brand new battery!!! but of course I couldn't start my car on the way there. I had to get it jumped to be able to get it to be repaired. I've only had this car a short while. It should not be having this many problems. I'm going to look into California lemon laws now because I can't believe that I was sold this car for $10,000 OVER what the KBB value is!!! read more

Readers Digest version of a stressful experience. Our first salesman, Carlos, added $2K for an extended warranty, after he was told three times, once in writing, that we didn't want it. Fast forward to the day we got a text saying we can do an express checkout the next day, we responded and told him what time we would be there. there was no communication from him after that. We drove an hour to get there and Carlos wasn't there and we were told we could not take our car. The one and only reason why I gave them three stars is because Lucy stepped in and resolved the issue, did all the paperwork and everything else Carlos should have done. It Thank you Lucy. read more

We even had money to put down but were given the run around, I was promised a car and had a price locked in, in order to afford the car I had in mind I had to sell the car I currently had. Warranty is a scam and now I'm left with a busted car and no support from Car Max Fresno I purchased an "extended" warranty on a Dodge Grand Caravan 2017, already with 60k miles on it. I thought the warranty covered 100k miles that I would add to that, but the cut off is AT 100k. The pandemic happened, which means I didn't drive it for almost two years. I've begun driving it again, and the transmission has completely gone out. My car is currently only a few thousand over the max mileage and they told me that even one mile over 100k would cancel the warranty I am now stranded in Los Angeles with no car and absolutely not enough money to replace the transmission. I was told by the warranty office to call my Fresno CarMax and ask if there is an option to purchase another extension for the "extended" warranty, and there is no option for that. When I asked if there was any other support CarMax could provide to a reliable customer (this is my second car with them) they told me no. It sucks because I love my van but I feel that they are putting me through a loop with no solutions. Do not do business with this company. Their used cars are not reliable.
