    Top is the pre cabin air filter and the engine air filter

    I am a returning customer and will continue however, a few concerns about the mechanics who "check off" the list for safety and maintenance. My engine air filter was filthy, front brake rotors warped and needing service, my cabin air filters were also very old and filthy. I recommend a quality check on the service techs. I still like the cars they provide as well as the honest sales experience.

    I went to 3 other CarMaxs yesterday and none of the cars smelled as bad as the one in Fremont! How do I give this NEGATIVE stars?

    The service department is really lousy . Really unhelpful and overcharges. I guess I should have done more research on them.

Despite this, at least two customers who arrived after me were attended to before I was. My repair order was not opened until approximately 12:49 PM. Mistakes happen, and had the issue been acknowledged and addressed appropriately that day, I probably would not be writing this review. Instead, what disappointed me most was how the matter was handled afterward. During the visit, I interacted with Lucian, Fabian, Kevin, and eventually Service Manager Eric Rule, after waiting approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes to speak with him. Mr. Rule acknowledged that the incident should not have happened and advised that it would be investigated and that I would receive a follow-up. Over the following several weeks, despite multiple follow-up emails, I never received the promised explanation or investigation findings. My primary concern was never simply the wait time--it was the lack of ownership, follow-through, and accountability during the escalation process. It was only after I escalated the matter to Honda Customer Relations and AutoNation Corporate that General Manager JT (Viet) Tran became involved. Mr. Tran handled the matter professionally, engaged constructively, and ultimately resolved it by offering $500 service credit (I declined as I would not go there ever, perhaps) which was later replaced with a $500 check. I appreciate his willingness to step in and bring the matter to a fair conclusion. This review reflects both aspects of my experience: an appointment and escalation process handled by Service Manager, Eric Rule, that fell well below expectations, and a professional effort by the General Manager JT Viet Tran to resolve the matter after corporate escalation. I hope the dealership improves not only its appointment handling but also its customer communication, follow-through, and accountability when issues arise.

They took thier time sending a replacement and kept asking for pictures from different angles clearly trying to get out of replacing the part that arrived damaged. Once I got the replacement it was supposed to come flashed to my car as they state it's a plug and play service,give them your vin and they will flash it so ypu can just put it to your vehicle. When I called with my concern that they did not do that they said I have to go have it flashed at a shop. What did I pay for then? A used part off a car in a junkyard that I can't even use without spending extra money that according to thier site I would not need to do. I then sent the part back as that's not what they said it was and once they got it they claimed it's not thier part Where else did I get the part from? These guys are scammers and con artist. I live in Santa Cruz and it's a long haul thru traffic to get to Fremont, but Zack answered all my questions, the car checked all my boxes, so off I went. Th car itself was nicer than I expected. Zack told me he'd sold around 150 Minis over the years, a good proportion of them to folks in Santa Cruz. His philosophy was to mark up his cars a small amount, and turn them over quickly. This is true. Other dealers I'd come across ask unreasonable prices for their Minis -- and the cars sit for months on their lots. I know, I'd been watching them. A couple of days after buying the car I had a bit of a problem with an ignition coil. Zack gave me a warranty on the car, but the car was in "limp home" mode and I had no way of getting it back over the hill. I had it fixed by our local Mini specialist -- and Zack was gracious enough to send me a check for the work. I highly recommend Fifty Stars, I'd buy another car from him in a second. I've wanted a Mini since the 60's. I did a long trip into Mainland Mexico with a buddy in his Mini in '67 and wanted one ever since. Zack made it come true.

I feel really lucky that working with Sasha, Nate, and Josh was a true breeze. Talking through car specs, safety features, and test driving was clear and easy. Sasha went over all the controls and features the car and ones like it had. The pricing was fairly clear and we got all the paperwork settled within a couple hours without any roadblocks. I was trying to sell a car on Facebook Marketplace when an employee named Nathan Nguyen messaged me about buying it, then invited me to come in. I asked if he'd be OK paying my posted price of $8,800 (its bluebook value), and he said "likely" yes, then when I asked a second time, said yes again. Once I arrived, he spent all of 45 seconds giving the car a superficial once-over, after which his assistant told me they could only pay $2,500 -- a complete joke of an offer, and a total waste of my time and gas. (I ended up selling it for $8,200.) Since this Nathan guy is their manager of used car sales, his behavior is probably representative of Winn Volkswagen. I find it baffling that these inconsiderate idiots see casual lying as good business practice. The only result of this interaction was annoying me, which isn't something that contributes to their revenue. All they got out of it was a bad Yelp review, and a guarantee that when I'm in the market for an ID.Golf in a couple years, I sure as hell won't be buying it from here. How dumb is that?
