They lie and don't tell you everything you need to when you purchase vehicles. Make sure you do your research before you buy anything. An they don't make repairs , they will say they did . An when you complain about it, they will say the manager isn't in and will call you back. An never call back, I recommend going elsewhere! read more

Carmax sold me a car that was damaged and did not disclose it. I only discovered it three months later when I requested their maintenance record on the car. I called their corporate customer service and after a lengthy discussion was told that they had refurbished the car to their standard after finding it with their 215 point inspection. Using Bondo on the left front quarter panel and trunk and then painting the whole left side and trunk is not minor. They should've been disclosed to me and the car should've not been sold as accident free. They would not tell me if the car was damaged when it was purchased or while in their possession. The arbitration clause in the sales contract prevents me from suing them for fraud. I recommend everyone Google CarMax lawsuits before doing any business with CarMax. read more

Terrible experience. Purchased a car for our daughter. Signed a letter in which Carmx state they will process title and registration paperwork and County Tag office will mail the plate directly to us. We paid them $38 for tag and title fee. They did NOT do the paperwork and we had to call the County to find out the we had to pay the fees to the County and register the car ourselves. We spoke to several people who had no interest in helping us or refunding our money. read more

Very Disappointed and Hurt by how my mother, and I were treated today at Your Establishment. We came in to get Estimates,Trade a car, and Purchase 2 more cars as gifts. But was i in for a rude awaking. My mother and I were completely ignored and told it would be an hour wait with no one in building. all the sales men took off and the ones that were there didn't even look our way. after waiting for an hour and 30 more mins i gathered my thoughts and took my mother out of there and we went home. i will never step foot in car max again. what a horrible experience, but no hard feelings at all because what they didn't know is i came in dressed relaxed as a multimillionaire and i left as a relaxed multimillionaire so Never Judge a book by its cover. Also it goes to show that it's not always a different race treating you badly with me being AA all of this was done by my own kind. Millionaire Signing OFF. read more

Brandon and everyone else made buying my new Prius and selling my old Prius totally painless and easy! Almost close to being fun. :-) I got way more money for my old car than I even hoped for and my new one cost less than I was expecting. No pressure at all on the sale and Brandon was very knowledgable. And when he didn't know an answer he didn't try to bluff but went to find out the info I needed. read more

I purchased a GT Mustang from Carmax years ago which is why I went back in 2022 to purchase another car. I don't know what happened to them but I WILL NOT EVER go back to Carmax again. Purchased a car in 2022 and after the 30 day was up things started happening. The horn, brakes, locks, headlights, battery etc. GMC found metal shavings they had my car for 2 weeks plus came had to tow it back to themselves to fix the brakes. More things going wrong. Fast forward a little the ac went out found out it's the ac compressor. The warranty sent the wrong one which causes me to be out of a car for a while then they finally sent the right one only to find out there's a blockage. It was the condenser. But the warranty didn't want to pay for that. My $250 deductible that I thought I was going to pay turned out to be $700. Had to get a rental and the warranty covers $40 a day. What car rentals are $40 a day these days??? Get my car back on a Friday and Monday the ac goes out again...... they sold me a lemon and still want the car payments. I had this car for 1 1/2 years and I have never had this much trouble with a car in my life. read more

I purchased a jaguar xe from car mart a year ago after 84 days of having the car it had to go back into the shop for a major oil leak which caused me to be without the car for a month after getting the car back 2 months later the car was back into the shop for another month within the first 6 months of me having the car the car was in the shop for a total of 2 months. Fast forward to today and the car has been in the shop now 3 times and this time a new engine was required. I purchased the maxcare warranty with the vehicle but was never explained the warranty fully plan now the cost to repair this vehicle is over 21000$ and they wanted to only pay the repair company 17800$. Now in order for me to get the car I have to pay an additional 4000$ to get the car out of the shop as well as still pay my car payments. Now I am not happy about this because of the fact of the matter I am still without a car and is forced to pay on a vehicle that the warranty company should have fully covered but denied part of the claim (PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GO TO CARMAX TO GET A CAR YOU'LL REGRET IT) TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO GOT A CAR FROM THEM THEY OVERPRICE THEIR CARS AND HALFWAY FIX THEM SO YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY SPEND MONEY IT'S A RIP OFF read more

This was by far the BEST experience I have ever had purchasing a vehicle. Absolutely zero high sales ploys or pressured negotiations- zero. It is truly the ONLY way to buy a car.. Came here for an appraisal, expected typical dealership behavior and was pleasantly surprised, wound up with an offer that exceeded my expectations and sold immediately. Purchased a car with cash , express(lol) pickup. Told the girl the night before paperwork was wrong that she spelled several things like street address wrong. "Oh , that's not a problem it's just the computer ," yes ok whatever . On the way to get the car they text and say paperwork is wrong . Me"oh really?" Big surprise. So it was a long process to redo all of that. In the meantime I have already paid. They informed me I can't get my title and handicapped designation even though I paid cash. For at least 2 months . Great. So get to the car and I can smell smoke before opening it. Very mad. They washed the car but did not clean it or fix the smell before offering it for sale. It was very loud like a wind tunnel on they way home 50 miles from the location . So I called them about the stink the loud noise and the tires as I noticed the bumpy ride home and the tires had gashes in them . Moving forward 6 trips from home to columbus ga 300 miles and they do it this way . One trip per item , one to see the problem like tires . One to install 2 not 4 and very loud tires on it. Then one more trip down to see the windshield that was not glued to the car and another to get it fixed . Still smelly one more to put a cabin filter in and that of course did not fix issue. Then the noise isn't fixed either as this cat was wrecked and they lose so I investigated and it's pretty easy to see the thing had been wrecked. I still have a smelly loud cat with bad noises tires and oh yes the sunroof leaks . . So I'll return this piece of junk but I wound be getting my cash from them they say ir will take at least 2 weeks . What bs. What horrible customer service . I should sue them for sending me home in a car they knew had a windshield that was not attached to car and bad tires . So beware don't shop here , unless you want to get a bad car bad experience and lose money and have people who don't mind putting your life at risk selling you the junk . read more

I purchased my 2011 Mini Cooper S in January at this Carmax in Columbus! The car buying experience was awesome. The car was in great condition and you can certainly tell they take pride in selling amazing used cars. I had mine tranferred from a different location and when I test drove it I had to have it! I got it the next day and it has been a blast ever since. The salesman was very nice and informative during the test drive as well as the financing process. Would highly recommend for any used car purchase. read more

I bought a 2019 Mustang just 3 weeks ago and it's been at the service department for two weeks now. I've been trying to get in contact with someone from the service department and it's always nearly impossible. Nobody wants to ever answer that phone!! When they do finally answer they say they'll have someone return your phone call but that NEVER happens. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. While I was in the middle of the purchasing process I heard a sales woman talking about a customer who simply asked for help. God forbid you bother them when they're standing around in their huddle right in the middle of the store. I would like to get my $8000.00 down payment back and take my business elsewhere since they it seems they sold me a lemon anyway. Supposedly they give their cars a 125 point inspection (what a joke!) if that were true they would've seen my driveshaft was bad! read more

Excellent experience. Second car purchased from the Columbus location in the past two years. I searched on line and found the vehicle I wanted and they immediately transferred it from Birmingham. We had a pretty good experience buying our car there recently. Rodney helped us get the car transferred quickly to this location and Sydney took good care of us during the purchase. We were satisfied with the price of the car and our trade-in value. Then, we had an issue that needed to be resolved. I called and Christopher Holt took charge, and Andy in the service department took quick care of us before we had to spend many hours on the road. This gave us peace of mind. The business office failed to properly complete the title paperwork which is causing us to wait to return to the DMV office to get our AL tag. Overall, we would recommend this dealership to others. read more

The maintenance people were great; but the buying process and aftermath was completely disappointing to say the least. You already spend more than the car is worth here- atleast have some respect for your customers and give them the service they deserve. This is a place to go when you're credit is low and you are starting your life back up. Other than that don't waste your time here. The unprofessionalism in this place is not worth your time or money. read more

Integrity issues and poor business practices. I made salesman aware I was interested in a vehicle he had on the lot. He offered to hold it for me for 3 days. I was surprised to hear that they would hold a vehicle. I never asked if he could hold the vehicle, he offered that service. He also stated they have held vehicles for potential buyers for up to 9 days in the past. He stated he was off for the next two days, but he would call me as soon as he returned to work in order to follow up. I tried to call and text his number early on the 3rd day to no avail. Without hearing from him, I returned to the lot before lunch on the 3rd day with payment and insurance in hand for the vehicle. I waited on him to return to work so that he makes the commission on the sale. Despite the fact that the vehicle is in plain view in the lot, they refuse to sell me the vehicle. They say it's being transferred to another lot. The salesman tries to sell me on another vehicle of a different make and model, which was insulting. Sales manager was no help either. I wasted half a day and had to take time off work to obtain insurance and payment. I attempted to call and text (his business card and voicemail both say to text him) numerous times after leaving the premises and never received any return communication. For all he knows, I wanted to purchase a different vehicle on their lot. Steer clear of this place! read more

I dealt with Brandon Julien and it was the BEST car-buying experience I've ever had. I have NEVER bought a car so quickly and professionally. This place is a well-oiled machine. I lined up my own financing and saved extra time. I was in and out the door (including test drive) in less than 2 hours. They transferred the vehicle I had chosen and was promised within a week-24 hours later I was buying. Angela Pavlakos took care of taking my money and explaining everything I was signing in a flash (per my request). They do not haggle over prices either. Thank you guys! read more

My experience here at this Carmax location has been wonderful! Very friendly staff and management. Had a few minor issues with the car I purchased and wasn't able to make it back to Carmax to get them fixed so they paid the place of my choice to get it fixed in the area I lived in saving me a lot of time and keeping me from having to ask off work to drive to Carmax! Carmax was very helpful in regards to getting me into my new car even though my credit is less than perfect. They have you in and out within an hour after you find the car that's right for you and you apply online. Worst car shopping experience ever!!! They want a ridiculous down payment on the car you're trying to purchase... they say they're there to help you finance a car but I'd say otherwise. I would rather get teeth pulled than ever go here again for my car shopping needs. The people that helped us were nice, but the appraisal team were shit heads. They think that a Ram 1500 with roughly 57K miles on it isnt worth a whole lot... but they were trying to sell us a car of the same year for thousands more than what they were offering us. I absolutely adore carmax. I traded in my very first car with them for an Infiniti I fell in LOVE with on their lot. Let me tell you, it was so quick and easy to trade with them! It was amazing. The buying is no hassle! (THANK YOU!) They give a FULL detail report of the car you are buying, they also keep all maintenance records on file- even if there is no work that ends up being done! This process took place over two years ago. I have gone to them for all my upkeep and maintenance needs. Mr. Jackie is amazing! He is so so helpful for any and all of the needs or questions I have/had. I had a situation where I was concerned about something being installed on my car the way it was - the General Manager didn't laugh at me, didn't call me on my naivety... No, he was VERY patient and went above and beyond to help me out. I seriously can not list out all of the names of the people from this company who have exceeded 'Exceptional Customer Service' expectations. This is an amazing company and I can sincerely say I am proud that I have and will continue doing business with them far into the future. Great job Carmax! read more

The buying experience was of course easy. But if you have any issues , you are pretty much on your own . I purchase a used car from this Car Max In Columbus GA . Turns out the rims were spray painted . Of Course within 3 months my rims literally changed colors . You can tell the spray paint was fresh because the tips of the caps were painted ( Where you would put your air in ) . When i brought the car in i said to myself " Im positive they will fix this issue . It was so obvious .Here is what i got instead . They actually said it could've been the prior owners ! As if that has anything to do with it . I thought they were to inspect the product before they turn around and sell it ? It was just a joke and treated me like crap . I will never ever go there again . Just embarrassing. Like i said easy to buy , but pray you do not have any issues afterwards . read more

I went into CarMax on 4/27 just looking at cars. I sat down with Michael and got approved for a 2014 Fusion and had it transferred in from a different location. Came back on 5/02 to purchase the vehicle. I was told I just need to bring in pay stub and proof of insurance. When I got there they said I needed a bank statement also. I rushed to the bank to get one printed before they closed and brought it back. Everything was good, we did the paperwork, I gave them my $1000 down payment and I left with the car that day. Fast forward to 5/14. I received a call stating the finance company needed more documents before funding the loan. Those documents were 2 more months worth of bank statements. I brought those in on 5/15 and was on my way (or so I thought). I get a call later around 6pm on 5/15 stating that the finance company still did not accept the documents and that I needed to bring the car back. I brought the car back to CarMax on 5/16 and signed the return agreement. When I asked about my $1000 down payment that I paid in cash, I was told I would receive a check in the mail for it. That was a little frustrating since I paid in cash and that I needed the money to find another car. So I sign the agreement and leave. When I get home I look at the agreement and it says "By voluntarily signing this agreement you agree to the terms explained on the back of this agreement". I was never even informed that there was a back side the the agreement. When I turn it over it says for cash payments a check will be available for pickup at the store within 3-6 days. This made me very upset because I specifically asked the lady how long it would take and how would I receive it. I'm not sure why they couldn't have given me a check right then because I've seen other reviews where they have given customers a bank draft in store for a refund. This all together a terrible experience. I just want my money back so I can go purchase another vehicle. read more
