Will never go to CarMax again for an appraisal! If you think they would give you a fair wholesale value for the convivence of them to make money on your excellent condition trade-in, Think again! I don't know what kind of scoundrel's they have in their back office, but they don't know what they are doing. No sucker is ever going to take what they offer, especially when trade-in values from rival dealerships are often up to 5k+ higher from what they give. The numbers do not reflect KBB or NADA trade-ins transactions at all. Basically I already know the formula, offer nearly the same amount of your current balance of your car loan and that's what you'll get. You will literally walk away with nothing, however if you take their offer, their goal is to make over $10,000 off the deal when they sell. This goes to show the quality of their resale fleets. Since they said they will only offer "auction prices", they're only going to stock undermaintained, and unloved fleet vehicles. I have been very sceptical of purchasing a car from them since i first start looking at cars 7yrs ago. What made me decide to give them a chance was that my sister and brother both bought their cars from them and since my car broke down on me it was time for another car. Well that was not the case for me. At the beginning of my search i looked at different dealership. I finally decided to go with Carmax and applied for a pre approve on their website.( The car was in another state which was than tranfar to this location.) Which i received a call back the next day telling me i was pre approve for a this amount. So i talk to one of their home delivery team and got everything setup and paper work sent thru. Everything was going fine and paperwork that was need was sent to the loan company. So here comes Saturday, the day i choose to get my car to be delivered. I test drove it, look at the outside and inside, plus engine. Everything looked fine. So i went ahead and we started filling out the rest of the paperwork , getting everything sign and seal. After everything was done i was so excited to finally have a car again. So i thought. 3 days had past and Wednesday come, i get a phone call me from a very rude lady by the name of Jasmine, telling me that the financing on the car fill thru and i need to bring the car back. No explanation of why or im sorry, just bring the car back or they will take it and i will not get my down payment back. Than she goes to tell me they will write me a check right there after i return the car. So now i have to call out of work for the next day and losing money. Just so i can get this taken care of. Next day comes im at Carmax returning my car and than had some paper work to sign so im not charge for a loan on a car that i dont have. Well by this time im already heat plus 6month pregnant and now that im finish signing some paperwork and i ask them are you going to write me my check, they lady in the business department says no we don't have checks to write. She said that my check will be sent thru the mail and it will take a week. So i went off and said why did Jasmine tell me that i will be writen a check. They couldn't give me an answers. I was getting even more pissed off to the point of walking out or i would have hurt someone. So i walked out. I will never trust this place again, or do any business with them. I will suggest any friends or family to look else for cars. My best suggestion to anybody looking for a car is don't trust Carmax. I have bought my last two cars from CarMax. I believed they were easy, nice and hassle free until recently, when I actually ran into a problem. They are great if they are making money off of you but the minute where it may cost them or create extra work for anyone who works there, then they all of a sudden do not respond, try and pawn you off on another department or do not provide any assistance to their customers. They sold me a car that clearly had a tire leak at the time of purchase. At first it was just a little low so I would put air in it. Then it got to the point where it was flat and I had to fill it up completely each day. At that time I began calling the service department where I got no answer and left voicemails that did not get returned. I finally called the business office which they told me to contact my sales person. I then put the spare on myself and drove to the location where the sales people told me to ask the business office. (Once again pawning you off on someone else because they do not want to do the work) Finally someone came over and explained that even though I signed up for the maximum warranty and even though it was still Under the 90 day limited warranty, they said there was nothing they could do. I then asked to return the car because it had been less than 30 days and they told me I had to replace the tire on my own before I returned it because it has to be returned "as it was sold." Well it was sold with a busted tire! Come on. Does that sound like someone you'd like to do business with? I didn't think so. I was even going to go back and buy my $60k pickup from them. I am sure if they knew that the sales rep I worked with (who complained the entire time I was buying the car anyway) would have maybe tried a little harder to help a little tire issue. Well I will not be buying that truck from them anymore and I would advise all of you to stay away as well. Please do yourself a favor and read comments like this before you spend that kinda of money on a vehicle. I wish I would have. I've never posted on something like this before, but I felt the need to at least warn people what they are getting into. You mean nothing to them despite how they may act and they will prove it given the opportunity like they did to me. How they sells themselves is completely inaccurate. Worst car buying by experience I have had. I had a car shipped here from Augusta, GA. I went in and was assigned Agim, he was rude and seemed annoyed from the time I sat down (Tuesday). I test drove the car and told him I wanted to buy it the next morning when he texted me, I called him and explained that I was waiting to hear from my bank. He said he would hold the car until Saturday (Wednesday). On Thursday I texted him and wanted to have one more test drive before I signed off on my financing. It was a $34,000 purchase and I should be allowed to have a second test drive without being pressured to buy it right then when I was told it would be held for me until Saturday. He told me that I could not test drive it again without buying it or he would take it off hold. I had to switch associates because I was tired of dealing with him adding additional stress. My new associate, Alpha, was brand new but much more polite/professional and helpful! I purchased my new Audi on Friday and love it, but the experience was everything previous customers warned me about. I'll just go straight to Audi for my next purchase. read more

This is for the service area. The salesman and that experience was great! Mac did a great job! After I drove off the lot ...my car issues started! I had to bring my car back in about a due to dead/bad battery. I broke down and called AAA. They did the battery test and replaced it. CarMax did reimburse me for the cost. But, just another thing that I didn't expect from buying a car off the lot. Below details the issues I had with my car. Made appointment for Friday April 7 I dropped my car off the day before, Thursday April 6 Items to be fixed: 3 Key Fobs I was told this would be done the same day Thursday April 6. This was completed on Thursday April 6. They were able to program 2 of the FOBS. I was told the 3rd one wasn't able to update as it must be programmed to another car.... Tire The tire pressure light kept on coming on ( as I said it came on as soon as I drove off the lot from day of purchase March 3...?) I was told this would be completed Monday April 10 As of 4:30pm Tuesday April 11 - no call from CarMax. I had to reach out to them. I found this ridiculous! I was able to reach my Service Consultant - I asked "what happened to my call last Thursday. You said that you would call me?" Her reply was " I did?" I was told that they tried to patch it but it didn't take. Although, she was unable to tell me which tire it was---- thru out the whole process. I was told that a new tire was ordered (American Tire Distribution) and it should arrive at 11am tomorrow Wednesday, April 12. Washer Fluid Low light was on ( as I said it came on as soon as I drove off the lot, March 3...?) This has been fixed. The driver's seat was coming apart I recalled that I did have pics and showed the service consultant when I signed in Thursday April 6. The part near the window and the front near the steering wheel - this part was near the steering wheel was never ordered. I was told that Friday, April 7 the seat parts were ordered. The seat part(s) were supposed to arrive Tuesday, April 11th. This didn't happen. The Service Consultant told me the parts for seat will arrive at 12pm Wednesday April 12 and the job should be completed at 1:30pm. Wednesday April 12, at 3:09pm - Once again, no call/updates. I had to call CarMax again. A different Service Consultant answered and said that the parts aren't in.... tire or seat parts. He said the Service Consultant that is dealing with my car will call me back right away. I had to call back at 4:35pm! I reach my Service Consultant and she says now that the tire will arrive Thursday, April 13 at 10:30am......? Thursday April 13, at 12:21pm Service Consultant said that the tire is not there yet. He transferred me and another lady answered and told me that my Service Consultant will call me back. She asked for the best number for me to be reached. I gave her my cell as I would be away from home. I got home around 2:45pm. There was a message on my home phone!!!.... that everything was complete. Well their boss was around and as I climb into my car....the seat part near the steering wheel wasn't replaced or fixed!!??? The boss told was embarrassed and offered me a free oil change...and a Service Consultant will call me on Monday April, 17 to determine when the car will be completed. Well, guess what... no call on Monday. I had to call and the Service Consultant wasn't that the boss assigned wasn't even working on Monday....so, finally I get all my issues resolved by talking to the boss's boss. Not even another free oil change or car wash was offered...I had to request it . I bought a Carmax warranty for my car...do you think I'm confident in bringing my car here again...? nope! My experiences are from selling and shopping. I haven't purchased an auto, yet. You can browse the lot and be left alone to do so at your own leisure, with the cars unlocked. I appreciate a salesperson not being in tow. I also appreciate the price on the car being what you pay without wondering if you could have bargained for a better deal. Do your homework and decide if you like the price. Same goes with selling a car. Decide what you'll take, let them make you an offer, and take it or move on. The two offers I've had were fair. In the beginning the communication was great. Once I put in an online request, I got a phone call a few hours later about what steps have to be taken to reserve the selected car. It turned out that the car was in Gastonia, so i was told it will take a few days for the car to be transferred over to Charlotte, along with the paper work and registration. Well, it took more than a few days. Whenever I would text the salesman, Julian, on when I can pick up the car his response was, "I'll get back to you later this afternoon". I left voice mails, emails and no response. Three WEEKS later, I heard back from Julian that the car is ready for pick up. After terrible customer service, I obviously wouldn't advise anyone to get a car there, unless they're okay waiting for an entire month. read more

Totally unsatisfied. My son and his fiancé went in and ended up buying a 2018 Kia forte. They took it on a short test drive in Charlotte in the car seem to drive fine. Finish the deal and they were driving at home which we live about an hour away in the country they ended up hitting a small pothole in the road and it shot them literally into the other lane and also when they hit about 55 miles an hour the car start shaking uncontrollably. They took it back to Carmax they sent them to a Goodyear tire service location and they said they inspected the whole suspension the tires brakes etc. and all they found was one tire was out of balance and everything else was fine. She got in the car proceeded to drive it back home and it was doing the same exact thing. He ended up taking it to two separate mechanic shops to get two different opinions and they both said the same thing everyone of the shocks are dead. The tires have broken belts and they both said the exact same thing this car is not safe to drive at all and they recommended not even driving the car home. So so much for Carmax i400 point inspection or whatever they claim because that is absolutely not true. Their solution is to keep bring it back in and take it back to Goodyear which obviously is pointless because obviously they don't know what they're doing either read more

i found a car at the Florida CarMax Location paid the on refundable transfer fee of 300.00 car arrived. i was told that they had to remove the tent from the windows for it to pass inspection, then they decided to pass it with the tint on. Car had a broken windshield and they said they would have to put a work order in to have it fixed. Car had arrived 3 days earlier so this could have already been fixed since they were worried about the tint. Next they wanted to give me whole sale for my car and retail for the new one. I am out 300.00 transfer fee for having it shipped here, and no deal. Kelly Blue Book and NADA had my car at 11,000.00 and CARMAX came back with 9,500.00. No Deal! Be careful make them give you the amount they will give for your car first before going through the bank to get approved and having the car brought from another location. Cars seem nice but they are WAY overpriced. I purchased a 2021 Honda Accord brand new for less than they were asking for a 2020 model. Same car. They don't negotiate price and there trade in values are insulting. The financing rates are not competitive at all and they prey on people with less than perfect credit. You can do better just about anywhere else. A guy I know that works for CarMax told be to stay way. Speaks volumes. read more

One week! ONE WEEK! I had the car for that long before the VCM (VEHICLE CONTROL MODULE) goes out. Of course they cant do anything till Monday cause they cant work on it only Nissan can. Then I get a rental that smells like crap. I will never recommend CarMax NEVER. They cant even give me an estimate of when I will have my car back. I had an awesome experience at Carmax! I contacted Carmax of Charlotte, NC and I was privileged to have Jamaur Baker as my sales representative. I told him what I wanted and within fifteen minutes, I received several pictures of Mercedes Benz that fit my criteria (price range, make, model, and mileage). In addition, he provided a detailed description of each vehicle (including its special features, mileage, number of owners, number of accidents, reviews from owners of the same vehicle). Jamaur encouraged me to surf the Carmax website and he stated that if the vehicle I desired was not on their lot, he could find what I was looking for. Jamaur was knowledgeable of the cars he recommended as evidenced by him completely answering all of my questions. When I arrived on the lot, Jamaur showed me the car I selected as well as showed me other cars that I may be interested in. However, I purchased the vehicle that Jamaur recommended. Not only did I leave with a new vehicle, but my boyfriend did as well. Jamaur is an awesome sales representative, especially being capable of convincing me to purchase a vehicle. Jamaur informed me that I was eligible to receive satellite radio for three months for free. In addition, Jamaur instructed me to contact immediately if I incur any problems. To top it off, I drove off with a full tank of gas! Since making my purchase, Jamaur has contacted me to make sure that everything ok, which is important in the business world! Carmax is an awesome company and I have recommended several people already. I highly recommend anyone that's looking for a car to go to Carmax if Charlotte, NC or any Carmax. I used the Home Delivery service after visiting the website and narrowing down the car that I wanted from their inventory. The overall process was incredibly simple and stress-free. I choose a car that they would have to deliver from another state. They looked over the car I had chosen and warned me about a cigarette smell (which ended up being a deal-breaker). They presented me with a similar car as an option and we made an appointment for a test drive. The thing about their home delivery service is that they bring the car to you for the test drive and If you decide to buy it, they have a mobile office with a notary and can take care of the entire transaction right there. They offer you a fixed price, which is great because you don't walk out wondering if you got the "best deal." Their pricing on cars and trade-ins seems to be pretty consistent with Kelley's Blue Book. I decided to trade my old car in. They gave me a fair price and transferred my tags right there. Overall, it was so much simpler than my last few experiences. I don't feel that I was taken advantage of in any way. There were absolutely no high-pressure sales techniques. No Upsells. No bait and switch. Everything played out exactly as promised by the website. In addition, I did my due diligence about Carmax before contacting them. My neighborhood has a social media website, nextdoor.com. I queried about Carmax experiences with the local locations and got between 50 and 60 positive stories. (a huge response for the website). What was striking was that no one described any negative experiences. (Also a rarity for social media). I would definitely recommend them and will likely use them again when it is time to replace my wife's car. read more

The way car buying should not be. We found a car online at carmax and sent a request. In a little while someone texted me from Carmax. We chatted for a little while and decided to reserve the vehicle for a test drive. I was told that it was reserved for me. I specifically asked again if it would be available when we arrived. I was assured that it would be, it was reserved for me at 7:15 Friday evening. Friday evening the traffic was heavy, it was raining, we drove 45 minutes to get to Carmax. Within a few minutes of speaking with our sales person we were told that the car was being transferred, there was nothing they could do. The sales person saw our conversation on the screen and my specific question about availability. Apparently the girl did not reserve it or the system failed. We were pretty irritated and swore never to use Carmax again. We cooled off, found another car at Carmax. We decided to try again. Carmax shipped a car in for us to NC from PA, no charge due to the mixup. Anyway when it arrived it is supposed to be detailed and checked out. We went down to do a test drive, it was raining again. We wanted to do the 24 hour test drive but since we didnt have our complete insurance declaration we could only do a 20 min. drive. We liked the car, we decided that we would purchase it and if we found something later we could return it. We traded our car and gave them 5k cash and financed the rest. The next morning once the car had dried we found multiple scratches all over the car, looked like from shipping. We were pretty let down. This should have been found by whomever checked it in. We contemplated returning it, the navigation system locked up frequently, it idled rough and had all the scratches. We called Carmax and they asked us to bring it down to look at the scratches. The service manager asked my wife to drop it off on Sunday and assured her they would go over the car with a fine tooth comb. They would detail it and fix the scratches. No worries. We drove down again on Sunday, dropped off the car, now 3 trips 45 min away. Monday they called and said the car was ready, then changed it to ready in an hour and a half. We told them no rush, take your time we want it done right, we will be there on Tuesday. We went down on Tuesday now 4 trips. We went in and got the keys, went to get the car. None of the scratches had been fixed, it was covered in a powder I am assuming from trying to buff out the scratches and it had not been detailed. Of course we had to get the service people out to look at it. We were told, Oh Im sorry, we will get it now, might not be able to get the big scratches and we will run it through the wash. What ? We were very irritated again. Of course we had to see the same service manager again, who told us not to worry, he told us the scratches were too big, they didnt meet some criteria for something. Our options from him were to accept it or return the car. We returned the car right then. But we were only given a check for our trade in, they said the cash would come in 7-10 days. We were down one car because we traded it to them, now they were keepin 5k of our down payment for 7-10 days. We dont have our full downpayment for another car, but they have our trade in and cash. So Carmax dropped the ball several times at our expense. I have to say smiling and being nice the whole way. I cannot recommend them. We went out of our way to make it work, but in the end were worse off than when we started, down a car, down a down payment and 4 trips - 45 min each way. I sure hope the guy who started this company because his daughter had a bad experience at a dealership knows what is going on at Carmax now. read more

I've had friends & family buy cars from here so I thought I would try it. Worst. Decision. Ever. I've had nothing but problems with the purchase I made. It seems like they didn't complete the multi point inspection because I had multiple issues with finding rust and the brakes going bad within 24 hours of purchase. They "fixed" everything for free but they also told me there was a recall in my car that didn't exist and told me to go to a dealership to have it fixed that didn't exist. I took it to a dealership I was familiar with and they did a diagnostic inspection and said that there were major issues that carmax never even caught. Luckily it was all covered under warranty. When I called carmax to let them know they didn't even seem to care. Now I'm stuck with a car that has continuous issues and they won't take responsibility for it. Very disappointed with the reviews that CarMax received for the charlotte location. After carefully reading most of the reviews I find that nearly 75-85% of the reviews are just terrible given the fact that sometimes people exaggerate reviews because they are angry at the time and i can assume that some may be a bit less than truthful , BUT in the case of where these people are going into finite detail i will assume they are telling the truth , Thus coming to the conclusion that i will "NOT" be going to CarMax ever again to purchase a car not now not ever..at least at this location... "Caveat Emptor" "Let the buyer beware." be careful because if it sounds too good to be true then usually it is. and after buying cars for the last 50 years, i find that most sales people are trained by the companies that they work for, to lie to the customer regarding appraisals, telling the potential buyers that there are problems with their cars so as to devalue their trade in and I've read nothing but negative reports from local buyers and here on this site about the shady tactics they use to give very low appraisals on cars that are worth much much more than what they give. Sellers get more commission on used cars than they do on a new car "Hence" very low appraisals..so be careful when buying a used car from this CarMax location and after my family members getting stiffed with sorry service department help and nothing but lie after lie ..i could go on and on with many stories about how they trick you into buying cars but when you have legitimate mechanical issues they give you the run around and make promise's to call but never do return your calls. I wont say anything that isn't true and if they would have given me the care like they promise to do then I would happily state it but this is not the case here. Ha! Anything but fast, easy, and stress-free. Tried to purchase a vehicle in Charlotte on Saturday-after waiting 3 hours in the "signing room" they discovered that they missed one letter in our address. This apparently held up the Business Office from producing our paperwork. This was discovered after our sales guy went back and the Business Office told him what was going on. You would think they would have been a little more proactive. After the sales guy fixed our address he entered in that we wanted to purchase a new tag as opposed to transferring it. Again, this was considered another error and all the paperwork had to be resigned- we thought this was it but no. Monday we received a call that some of the paperwork completed on Saturday (for now the second time) was incorrect and they needed our signature again. We went back in last night around 8 pm to find out that we couldn't update our financial information as a "system was down" that could pull up info needed from our bank. Since we were already there we decided to go to the Business Office and resign the documents that were needed. When we got back there, the team had no idea what forms needed to be signed and couldn't locate our paperwork. This took about 30 minutes to locate and my husband had to repeat seven times which document they mentioned from his voicemail. After completing that, I sternly told the manager that I would come back only once more to get whatever documentation completed and that we would not be together as I had plans during the timeframe that my husband could go up and sign. He didn't want to accommodate but I made it clear that the car would be returned if he didn't. That was our second trip. So here I sit on my third trip- which my husband called to confirm everything would be good when I got here as I am five months pregnant, have very low tolerance for stupidity and live over an hour away. He was told by Josh, the manager, that everything was squared away and that I could get my portion done without my husband. The Business Office first refused to print the documentation without my husband being present- that took an hour to "fix" after the Business Office Manager and Josh had words. Then something happened in the system which wouldn't print the documentation that I needed to sign (NC rates were coming over instead of SC rates -- as we live in SC). I'm pretty sure I have talked to every manager (Josh, Brian, and Rex) in this branch who just seems to place the blame on IT and the sales guy that I originally talked with (who wasn't there to defend himself today). As of today, I have spent a total of 9 hours in your office. I ended up FINALLY being able to sign the documents I needed to (pretty sure they will be calling me again stating I missed something but I refuse to go back-- they can mail me whatever else needs to be completed). This was only because my husband really wanted to keep that vehicle. I promise that I will NEVER purchase another vehicle or recommend any of your stores. You hire incompetent people. So I wanted to test the waters on selling my luxury car...after 12+ years and floating above 100K miles, my choices were limited and I wanted to see what a "dealer" offer would be to better determine what I could sell if for to a private buyer. This is all part of my effort to acquire a Ural motorcycle (see my Motorcycles of Charlotte review). There is a Carmax in Hickory and close to my home in the mountains, but I was also test driving the motorcycle too, so it worked out well. I arrived around 10 am, they took the car and indicated it would take an hour.........but in fact it took about 15 minutes..........wow! I got my offer, which was about 3K less than my bottom, so I said thanks.......but no thanks and went on my way. FYI...the offers only last 7 days, so if you were to sell you could do it right there and then or bring it in later in the week. I decided to hold out and just sell the car on my own, which I did, but all and all these place rocked in speed and helping me out. read more

Hate to do it but the service here is an absolute nightmare. Upon buying our vehicle we noted that the rear drivers side DVD monitor was not operational. No problem, we'll get it fixed. That was the notion. That notion has now turned into a 3 week nightmare. Dropped it off and mentioned the DVD monitor as well as the drive not reading the discs AND the remote wasn't the same as the one noted in the actual manual (this is the killer). One week later, get a call to come get the car. All is well they said, all works. We arrive, test the system, yes the monitor is on but the DVD drive still isn't reading the discs. So I take the loaner back and tell them to keep it till it's absolutely fixed. Fast forward a week. Keep in mind, everytime I call I ask them to please make sure the remote works ALL FUNCTIONS of the DVD system. I get a call, it's all working perfect, remote works, everything works. NOPE!!! We arrive to pick it up and 2 minutes later I see that yes the monitor works and the DVD drive is reading the discs but the REMOTE doesn't. The same remote I mentioned time, after time, after time and after time. They order the remote stating we will deliver the next day. Get a call the next day, oops didn't make the delivery truck. They placed my auto loan in forbearance WITHOUT my consent. Couldn't get a loan because of it even though I've NEVER paid my car payment late. I have purchased 6 vehicles from them over 20 years but they absolutely screwed me with this. Finance your cars at your bank not with them. I now have to prove my car loan isn't bad, provide pay stubs and a lot of time on hold because they did this to me. And on hold with 6 people over an hour to have them tell me that it'll take 3 business days to make it right. I'll never spend a dime here again. No offer for any kind of compensation either. Carmax? Well I like the place but appraisals on my car leave much to be desired. I would advise if you want a price for you r car, don't tell them you are not buying there. They gave me 3K less of an offer than the Kelly blue book for a car with one scratch and in great shape. A little disappointed that I wasted an hour for that. they do have a huge selection though. We purchased from a different carmax (prior to moving) before and that one was awesome so when we looked to purchase a car we sought out a nearby carmax. This particular location doesn't seem to do a very good job in the service department when it comes to hitting the 120 checkpoints they advertise before putting a car in the lot for purchase. All of the cars we test drove had issues that were a part of what was supposed to be a part of their checklist. That doesn't give you a lot of confidence to purchase. read more

This place is a absolute joke! First we had them transfer a truck for us down from greeneville and when it got here they told us it was a nontransferable title and had to be sold in greeneville. Don't you think you should have checked that before? Then, we had them hold a truck for us til the next day to come and buy and they sold it!!!!! My significant other, Earl Holmes, purchased a Black Denali from CarMax on Independence Drive in Charlotte, NC. He purchased the extended Warranty and was completely happy with his purchase until approximately September 23rd, 2021. On September 23rd I had to rush to the emergency room in Winston Salem (my city of residence). I called Earl and explained my situation and he said he would be there the next day (it was way past visitor hours at the hospital). As promised, Earl was there the next day, but he experienced some trouble with his vehicle which he didn't disclose to me until after I was discharged from the hospital two days later. He felt that I had enough on my plate with the hospital stay and didn't want to upset me (he's that kind of man). When he did express to me what happened, I was upset, but I was confident that the situation would be rectified because he had purchased the warranty and the warranty should cover a loaner until the vehicle was repaired. What I'm about to disclose is the reason why you should NOT purchase a car from CarMax and forget about purchasing the warranty. As of this writing (10/10/2021), CarMax has not fulfilled their end of the deal. Earl was given a loaner for 7 days. CarMax expressed that the part was on backorder and would not extend the loaner until the car could be repaired. They released the unsafe vehicle back to Earl and have totally disregarded him. He made the purchase and has upheld his end of the bargain, but CarMax has totally failed on their part. Earl contacted the corporate office to no avail. If the Corporate office fails to act, that speaks volume across the CarMax entity. Currently, Earl has an unsafe car (the problem is in the Steering column) and CarMax could care less. I work for a global company and if I mentioned the name, you would be familiar with it. When a part fails on our machinery, the parts are expedited to our facility and you, the customer, continue to have the product available for your purchase. Customer service is key and if we receive consumer complaints, we go above and beyond to satisfy our customers. Needless to say, CarMax does not value its customers. Customer service can make you or break you, obviously CarMax did not get that memo! Please take this review into consideration when contemplating buying a car for CarMax. If you are in the market for an excellent car buying experience, may I propose Carvana. I purchased my Cadillac SRX from Carvana and it was the most satisfying car buying experience I've ever had! I traded in my vehicle and was satisfied with the allowance given. Carvana sent me a check about a week later giving me a little more on more trade-in, who does that!!! Take my advice, make your next purchase from Carvana and skip the poor customer service and the epic warranty failure with CarMax. read more

I love shopping at Carmax! This location is super convenient right on Independence. They always have a huge selection and are never pushy. I bought one car here and am more than likely buying my next one here too. They are open Sundays at noon don't forget. If you see another car at another Carmax they will transfer it in for you at no charge and no commitment necessary. I'll keep this short and to the point... I went to CarMax to get an appraisal for a car I wanted to sell. I chose CarMax because I didn't want to go through the process of posting a listing on Craigslist, Autotrader, etc. My thought was if they gave me a good price I would sell my car on spot. The service was quick, they have a very friendly staff and the appraisal took 15 minutes. I was expecting the appraisal to be ~50% of what I had previously valued my car (using KBB and Edmonds), they blew me away and offered 80%. I couldn't have been happier. If I could rate the service here a 0 I would. I was treated like no one wanted to help me. No salesperson was excited (or even had the slightest bit of energy) to help me. A group of salesmen even saw me walk up and looked back to each other and continued their conversation. I felt completely unacknowledged by them and it was almost as if they didn't care about their jobs. It was very apparent that the top management does not enforce any sort of employee conduct. I looked at a few cars with the person who "decided" to help me (I say it like that because honestly he literally looked like he wanted to help me leave cause no one else was there and he wanted to continue conversation with his buddies) None the less, I needed a car and I felt that after hearing positive reviews and encouragements to go there, my experience would get better. I guess the joke is on me because at one point the salesperson helping me told me he would be back and after looking by myself for awhile I landed on wanting the Mercedes-Benz S550. I was hoping to test drive it and look on the inside and after waiting for about 8-10 minutes for the person helping me I looked around to see if they maybe were walking around looking for me, but no. They were back with their buds hanging out and laughing. I felt completely disregarded as a customer when I went with such high expectations. Carmax, you really let me down. I am definitely going to make sure I never refer my friends and family and quite honestly anyone I ever meet to ANY Carmax because I would hate to have anyone else go through that miserable experience. Not only was it a waste of my time but it was pretty disappointing that employees were very comfortable acting like that. Definitely says a lot about their top management. We made a recent stop in to look for a vehicle for my son. I've typically not liked Carmax in the past, because they have their cars behind a fence and force you through the showroom to see them, so a salesman will get to grab you. However, this experience was a good one. We went in and were met by a salesman at the front desk. After quick introductions, he took us over to one of their open tables. They have a large room with open tables and computers. We sat down, told him general parameters on what we were looking for, he found several cars both at his location and other locations that looked like a good fit. My sister had to sell her car quickly before moving out of state. I accompanied her because I agreed to help her by completing the paperwork and the transaction on her behalf after she was gone. She had to leave the state before the transaction could be completed. We worked with Marina at the business office. She was awesome! Very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. The transaction was somewhat complicated, and things went smoothly in general. When I came back to complete the transaction a couple days later, some of the paperwork was misplaced, which made for some tense moments, but it worked out in the end. This was my first time dealing with CarMax. My husband had luck with them when he bought his truck from them years ago. We brought our Jeep in to sell to the dealer and got a pretty good estimate on it. The estimates are only good for 7 days. We had to get the title released from the bank before we could finalize the sell and it took longer than the estimate was good for and knew we had to have it re-evaluated. When my husband brought it back the never took the keys from him and dropped the price $1,000. The car was not driven between visits so the mileage was not the issue. On the quote they told us that the back differentials were bad and making noises. Which funny enough they were not making noises on the way to the dealership. When i asked them to explain how they knew that if they never cranked the car or drove it he couldn't. I would save your time and go somewhere else. read more
