We were greeted promptly by an associate who immediately had my car checked out to verify the condition. The business office then got all of the paperwork sorted out for me. I had a used car to sell and got four online offers plus one in-person (Wayne Akers Ford, which was second-to-worst). My offer was good for seven days. I made an appointment and changed it three times before finally arriving at the store on short notice. They took less than 15 minutes look over my car, another 10 minutes to prepare paperwork, and another 20 minutes or so to make final preparations after I signed before finally issuing my check for exactly what they offered online despite some damage not covered by the initial questionnaire (minor issues). Despite being previously told they could call me a Lyft at my expense, I was pleasantly surprised in finding out they even paid for the Lyft. Most of my work at the store was done with Alex. My wife i reserved a suv from carmax. It was suppose to be shipped from Jensen beach to the Boynton facility. Because of an error on their app, the car was given to someone else. We tried to work with them by asking if another vehicle could be sent down and they could waive the $250 transfer fee. They basically told my wife that the will not waive the fee and we are sol! We have purchased 2 cars from this establishment, there will not be a third purchase. My wife put a lot of time in finding the car that she wanted and we were basically told there is nothing they can do. Would not recommend buying a car from this place. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I feel in this case it's necessary, hopefully to keep someone from having the same problems Carmax that I have been for months. Back in July of 2024 I purchased a 2022 Volkswagen Taos with a seemingly clean Carfax report, this came with a manufacturer warranty, as well as Carmax warranty, I was urged to purchase. My vehicle began showing problems immediately. I would be out driving to/from work and when I would stop at a traffic light, the dash would light up with a message that read " Engine Speed Max 3000 rpm" and then when I would go to take off, it felt like the vehicle was failing to switch gears, like it was trying to stall out. This causing me to have to pull over at least twice a day to restart my vehicle. So while both warranties were still active, and in hopes of finding the problem, I sent my vehicle back to manufacturer dealership. It's now January 2025 and I've had to drop my vehicle off three different times to be serviced for the same issue and all three times, not one identifiable problem. I was told an oil change would fix the issue, and so I immediately changed both the vehicle's oil and oil filter, and still the vehicle is refusing to pick up speed from a full stop. I have persistently voiced that I felt the vehicle was unsafe and needed the proper repairs before I began adapting the vehicle into my everyday schedule, and nothing has been done to actually fix the vehicle, so at this point all I can figure is that I've been taken advantage of because I'm a young woman with little mechanical knowledge. I've been given the run around for the past 6 month on what the issue is and to me it feels like they've been waiting on my warranty to expire in hopes of me having to pay instead of the warranty covering the cost of the issue with the vehicle. I've talked with multiple service managers Carmax. I was trying to get a straight answer and after having to resort to threatening to find an attorney, I was introduced to someone who said everything I wanted to hear. Claiming he personally would keep up with my car and keep in contact with me with every new update he had. His name is Dan and he's the sales manager at Carmax. It's been almost two months since I've heard from this manager and nothing has been done to fix my vehicle under warranty. The only positive experience I've had in this whole nightmare has been the sweetheart of a woman named Julie working in the service department. She tried as best she could to help, and she was the only one that actually listened to the customer who is afraid to drive a vehicle that Carmax either won't or can't fix. This was my first time buying my own car at a dealership and I've been shown that working with Carmax and Volkswagen of Delray is not the way you should go if you can't afford to buy another vehicle, one right after the other. read more

Scratch on the passenger side door. Carmax response... it's a used car.. we don't adjust for that. If I could give them less than one star I would. Went into CarMax today to payoff a car loan for a purchase in 2022. I had specifically gone onto the portal to print off an up to date pay off letter. Took that letter to my bank and obtained a cashiers check. Drove to my local (where I purchased the vehicle) CarMax and entered the business office. 6 employees looking at me and not one spoke. As I approached the desk, Rose put her cell phone down just long enough to utter "can I help you". I explained I was there to pay my loan in full and handed her the payoff letter. She arose from her chair, walked to the other side of the desk and sat down. She asked my phone number, verified my name, and then gave me a figure that was $12 less than what was on the payoff letter I had printed that morning. I explained I had a check for a different amount, and then Rose called for help. A young lady approached, looked at my letter, and stated "that's not what our system says". I again explained that I had printed the payoff letter that morning and didn't understand the discrepancy. "I'm just telling you that's not what the system says" is the response I got over and over. At this point, I state, I'm comfortable with just overpaying the $12 and moving forward. This is when it gets even better - The young lady turns to Rose and says "just take her money and don't let her haggle with you". HOW THE HE** AM I HAGGLING WITH YOU WHEN I AM OVERPAYING! Rose then asks me if I am just going to pay cash for the difference? (no, I'm not kidding). She takes the cashiers check, posts it into the magical system, and hands me a receipt. And then says...nothing. So we all just stare at each other for a moment. I then ask for the title to my recently paid off vehicle, to which I am told I can get it from the state of Florida in 30 days for $4. Perfect. No "Hope you visit us again", "Enjoy your car", "Have a good day" or even the most basic "Thank you" was uttered from anyone, at all. Some parting thoughts - NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CARMAX. I have to admit, at first I didn't think much of CarMax because of a terrible experience I had at there Davie location dealing with Brittny Williams. This women needs to be fired as she has a terrible demeanor and a horrible attitude. Brittny got incredibly indignant and rude with me when I started asking questions pertaining to the vehicle and CarMax's policies. To make a long story short she said "we are not going to fix any issues with this car and sir you don't have to buy this car or any car from CarMax. Obviously I know that I don't have to buy a car from their facility. But no employee should make it a point of telling you that. They should be grateful for everyone's business. I feel their process is a little flawed. Definitely feel free to buy a car from their company if you choose to. But I don't like being told that the car we are selling is coming like that and we're not willing to do anything to improve your experience. If the car has worn out tires they say that they have fixed the price taking the worn out tires into account. If the vehicle has body damage they say that they've priced the vehicle considering it had body damage. But then I dealt with a gentleman named Sal at the Boynton Beach location. I have to say that I've never had a better experience than dealing with him. He went far above and beyond what he needed to do to make sure I was satisfied with my experience. Worst experience ever. I bought a truck from there a Chevy avalanche and in 4 days the truck broke down with engine failure. I brought the truck back. CarMax had the truck for two months. Now the truck needs a new motor. Carmax is supposed to be a trusted car dealer I let them change the motor out. Get the car back and it broke down again. So Carmax says to me they have to send it to Chevy to get it fixed. Got the car back from Chevy everything was OK drove the car again for nine months and then the car broke down again. I asked for my money back because I think this is a lemon they offer me 4000 less than what I paid for the car. Well I couldn't afford a new truck so they put a new motor in the car again and now my transmission is having issues. Or every time I pull off it makes a popping noise. Everything went fine until I got to there "business office", the part that does the actual transaction. The staff was extremely rude. Uncalled for rude. I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 from this location. I have out about 6,000 miles on the truck so far. Changed the oil as soon as it was ready. Kept up with maintenance. I am about 4 months into this truck and this is everything I have had to do so far. 4 MONTHS! 6,000 Miles! 1. New spark plugs and spark plug wires. 2. Replaced 2 fuel injectors. 3. Had compression test done multiple times. 4. I am now having to replace the entire motor. Here is the total so far: $1,430 Now, the full motor replacement would be about $6,000. I have to put a new motor in it because cylinder 1 will not fire no matter what. Hence the fuel injectors, new wires and plugs etc. I have had multiple mechanics look and this and a Dodge Certified Tech. The only reason I used Carmax was because my mother has bought multiple cars from them over the years. She bought her cars from TN locations. I should have looked up all of their atrocious reviews at this location before buying a 30k truck. Progress I have made so far: 1. When I called the service department first I spoke with one of the employees and let him know what was going on. He kinda chuckled and said your out of your 30 day warranty. 2. I've tried to call the sales manager who sold me the truck can not get him on the phone. 3. Called Carmax Customer Service out of VA. Spoke with Sierra almost every day for a week. She is an angel. She has answered every time ive called and went out of her way to try and help. 4. Carmax Boynton Managers have said they will split the repair cost. Totaling out at about $2,700. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! They know they sold me a truck with engine problems! DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE!!!! EVER!!!! After a really bad accident where my car was totaled (and no, I was not at fault), I needed to find a replacement vehicle. I've always had new cars, but this time around I couldn't afford a new car price. Enter CarMax. I had several key features I wanted in my next vehicle (namely leather, a navigation system and XM radio), so I used CarMax's very handy website to search for cars that fit my criteria. I visited several stores, equipped with a list of each vehicle I wanted to test drive. At this location, I met a sales consultant named Mark Garver, who was extremely helpful, friendly and patient with me as I test drove several different cars. He was knowledgeable about them, and took me on a great test drive route that allowed me to experience each car on the highway as well as the back roads. It allowed me to get a great feel for each car. I ended up purchasing a car from a different CarMax location that was much closer to me, so I regret not being able to help Mark earn a commission on the sale. This is one of the WORST CarMax's I have ever been to. I bought my car here in February 2020 and my dad co-signed. When Carmax created my registration, they only included my name. I moved to TN and for over a year I have been fighting to get my title transferred from Florida to Tennessee. Not sure why the idiots at Carmax think it's cool to hold my title hostage. After speaking to a super nice lady at the Carmax in TN, she confirmed that the Boynton Beach Carmax messed up by only adding my name to the registration even though my dad was a co-signer. I called the Boynton beach Carmax and spoke to several people and various managers and was given the run-around. I even called the business office and the people were so incredibly RUDE. This review is strictly about the sales experience. I do not come here for regular maintenance and do not have an extended warranty through them so I can't comment on those. I'm a car guy, I love cars, I change cars all the time. I love Carmax because I can go there and pretty much see/drive a ton of different makes and models in a laid back no pressure atmosphere. A lot of the sales guys and people who work there are car enthusiast also. That being said the down side is Carmax doesn't usually have the best price on cars. Especially on like $10k or less cars you can usually find them cheaper at other dealers. However you do occasionally find some gems. Also if you plan to keep the car for a while and paying a little more isn't a huge issue and you don't like negotiating and playing dealer games, I would highly recommend Carmax for their straight up no BS pricing. I have even used their 5 day no questions ask return policy on one vehicle I purchased and while they didn't seem happy about it (car was still under warranty, took it to dealer and saw some things on warranty repairs I did not like) they did take it back no issues. We have purchased 2 others cars from Carmax in the past, but I will focus this review on my recent purchase, making the total 3 cars. The financing they offered was not great, however they give you a few days to replace it with your own financing if you wish, which is what I did and had no issues doing so. On this last one I purchased the vehicle at night, in the rain. The next day at home in my garage I noticed the leather dashboard was starting to delaminate. I research the issue and find it's a common defect. The car is no longer under warranty so I take it into the Carmax service department and they schedule a date to have me bring it in. They also agree to extend my 5 day return window until the issue is resolved. Long story short everyone I dealt with in service and sales was excellent including my service advisor Michael, service manager Stu and my sales person whose name unfortunately I can't remember.. They ordered a brand new dash from GM and had in installed in a couple of days. Michael communicated with me everyday letting me know the status. Well she was speaking to someone on the phone by the name of Joe that advise her they can give her $ 6000 for her car. We sat he started asking my sister questions than stood and left he came back 10 mins later that he had the perfect car for her. He never offered a test drive which was kind of weird all my sister did was sit in the driver's sit and look at dashboard for a second. Oh another thing he never show my sister anything about the car. There was no how does the car feel let's test the radio, how about the ac or let's look at the trunk NOTHING. Well, the paperwork was done she had to give them proof of income and proof that she lived in the current address. They gave her $ 4000 for her old car. When we got into the car to drive it home it will not start. The battery was dead. . Really??? So he decided to give my sister a loner that they will fix the car. (Wow now that explains why he did not want to take it for a test ride). So my sister drove the car for a good 3 days. So the saleman Peter calls her tells her I don't want to lose you as a customer we are going to treat you like Royalty (ya right) he finds another car it was the same make and model of the other car which is a Nissan Sentra SV 2019. Once the car is here we will call you so you can drive it for 24 hours and see if you like it. Please leave the other car here. My sister drove the car for 24 hours Peter called to say ok come today at 5 pm so we trade the cars. We get there with second car and while we were about to sign the paperwork he tells us the first car was involved in a crash. Now mind me the first car we had left it at the dealer. One of most nastiest manager comes out you need to fix this car this is your responsibility. Omg we have never ever been treated like this he was so rude. We told him the car was find . We drove that first car 3 days. I told him we did not want to speak to him to get another manager. So we got another manager explain the situation. I told him well the first car was park here in the parking lot therefore if the car was hit it did come from us. Plus do you have cameras? He said no. What kind of dealership does not have camera in there dealership that is on heard off. Well, to finish they accursed my sister that she did it and now she had to get the car fix before they give her the second or give her old car. What a scram! They never had the intention of giving her the second car it was all big old scram. Peter knew the car was f.. up he knew this since the very beginning that's the reason for not test driving the car. Also, they present the car from the front why? I know what happened while they were serving the car someone back up and hit the car but since they don't have any proof because of course no cameras in this place the easiest and less costly for carmax is to blame the customer. BUYER BEWARE! I found a car that I absolutely fell in love with. I paid to have it transferred to Tampa/Saint Pete to Boynton Beach. Followed up several times where I was told it still had not arrived and would be there the next day. Just to be told today (11 days later) that the order was canceled and now the car has been shipped elsewhere for someone else to purchase. The RIGHT thing to do would be to stop that transfer and ship it back here again to give me the opportunity to purchase the vehicle since it was not supposed to be available for anyone until I looked at it. We will see what happens but they are basically telling me that is not an option.
