Plus, my wife did not work, and I made a decent income, and we have two children together. Florida being a no-fault state, the deck of cards was already stacked against me. Jana Barnett handled my apposing counseling like she was playing a fiddle; she knows divorce law and can craft tailor made proposals word smithed perfectly for the situation or scenario. Her staff is organized so each member of the team is tracking on what is happening with each case, they use a cauterized (closed) email system that keeps everyone informed about what is happening in the case. The paralegals know what needs to be done, when paperwork or documents arrive in person or by email, they are scanned and filed immediately, streamlining the whole process. It is this level of detail reassured me, I picked the BEST and RIGHT law firm. But what really SOLD me was when I sat down with Jana and we laid out a complete plan of what we were going to do. By the end of April I was still being asked for new information about my financials and an order of contempt was to filed and fine incurred because paperwork was not being processed in time. My husband had to stop the order of contempt. Luckily for me our divorce was amicable between the parties but my time with Barnett and Gill was not. I had to sever my relationship with the firm and come to an agreement with my husband alone to move on. Very disappointed in the level of service. I never spoke to a lawyer (Jana) until I requested an end to our contract. They made a hard time worse for me and will keep my retainer even though their office did nothing in the end to help me. On legal documents she managed to consistently get important facts wrong (children's birthdays, spelling of their name, etc.) and turned these documents/recommendations in without allowing key parties to review (4am to our lawyers the morning we have mediation at 9a). She made wildly inappropriate comments during every single interview to me, "I don't understand how you two even got together in the first place," "Nice to see you not be emotional this time" (nice touch when working with a postpartum mother), etc. You are not allowed to ask for clarification or address things not being done (not responding to a time sensitive email in months on 2 separate occasions) because she will become highly defensive and verbally attack you. She will also bill for things that are inappropriate towards the end of your case (during mediation she was repeatedly asked to leave by my counsel and opposing counsel and was not allowed to join the meeting due to her inappropriate behavior. She lied and stated that since she paid for our mediation she could stay (she did not pay for anything). Then we got billed for 8 hours of her time). The sheer amount of chaos and unprofessionalism she brings to the table is remarkable. Her inappropriate behavior was so egregious at the end of our case that the judge agreed to disqualify her report.
