I hired Barnett and Gill to assist me through my collaborative divorce (married ten years) in February 2026. I was given worksheets to fill in with financials and I took the parenting class as instructed. What I was never given were time frames. Their office had to file extensions "on by behalf" that I would not have needed if they had been more transparent. I only knew of the deadlines from my husband's opposing counsel. By the end of April I was still being asked for new information about my financials and an order of contempt was to filed and fine incurred because paperwork was not being processed in time. My husband had to stop the order of contempt. Luckily for me our divorce was amicable between the parties but my time with Barnett and Gill was not. I had to sever my relationship with the firm and come to an agreement with my husband alone to move on. Very disappointed in the level of service. I never spoke to a lawyer (Jana) until I requested an end to our contract. They made a hard time worse for me and will keep my retainer even though their office did nothing in the end to help me. This is an update from an original good review posted years ago long before Gill merged with Barnett. I returned to Thomas for a Child Support modification on the SAME divorce case he worked on 9 years ago and was charged double the amount upfront! Just for a modification! Guess this is due to the fancy new renovations in the office. Secondly my Ex's lawyer who is a super junior lawyer btw was literally "WALKING THE DOG" on me while Thomas did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING on my case except go on vacation for a month and leave it with Jana (Barnett) who had no clue what was going on! He didn't even tell me he left the case with her. It wasn't until I called to find out what was going on that I found out he dropped the ball! So $5,000 later and all that was done was about 3 electronic motions filed. MY paperwork WAS RIDDLED with ERRORS, they kept filing me to the court with the wrong name, wrong address and not only were there multiple mistakes in my file that were made on the part of their firm. I sent Jana Barnett an email and said: I can see that mistakes are the norm as you have you have also managed to send me all banking information statements including accounts and routing numbers for the following clients: ANTHONY NEWPORT OR APRIL NEWPORT 8** C*******S L**P B*****N FL 3*** After firing Gill, I spoke directly with my ex' s Lawer pro Se. She confirmed little to NOTHING regarding communication between her and my lawyer. I then asked for a statement of itemized billing where I discovered that Gill/Barnett were actually double billing me for the errors THEY CREATED and had to go back and fix! When I called them about it (via email). they replied" it doesn't matter the retainer is paid and there's no refunds anyway".... LISTEN TO ME NOW OR BELIEVE ME LATER... Thomas has the SOFTEST BACKBONE IN THE GAME!!! He will start right out the gate telling you what he cannot do! He will pass you off to his colleague and bill at the highest rate. They do sloppy work and do not give a damn! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND DO NADA!!!!! They don't listen for understanding & you will be constantly repeating and explaining yourself over and over and over. Don't walk, RUN from this FIRM!!! I can prove EVERTHING I am saying! I had a horrible experience with this law firm since Jana Barnett was made a partner. I have worked with many great attorneys through my divorce and custody battle but I needed to find a new one since relocating to Florida. Despite my paperwork, payment and documents being sent, the law firm sat on my case for nearly two months. Tina Castro treated me as if I had a contingency case, speaking down to me at every turn. She insisted that I never turned in the documents they needed, therefore, my case was stalled. When I showed her proof, she offered no apologies and simply said that the person I turned them into was no longer there, in a condescending tone. Unhappy with how Tina was treating me and Janas lack of communication I reached out directly to Jana. Jana was too busy to call me back and had Tina schedule a meeting a week out. In an email exchange prior to the call, Jana was quick to defend her staff, offered no apology for sitting on my case and made a comment that it was better to deal with Tina because her fee is less than hers. Needless to say, I was shocked and asked for an accounting of my money. I noticed that meetings were charged that never happened. I immediately terminated my relationship with the firm and asked for my money to be returned. It's been nearly two weeks and they still have not prioritized it. Takeaway, you're not a priority here, they are too busy to handle your case professionally and they make no apologies for their mishaps I will be getting in touch with the board. read more

This one is sharp. I got good news and bad about my legal issue. In one shot. And that was refreshing, even if it involved dunking my, admittedly unrealistic, expectations of what the system "should do" into a vat of ice cold reality.
