Prior to calling Carl's Wildlife Control I called a local Wildlife Rescue company after I determined I might have a raccoon in my garage as evidenced by a chewed up weather strip. I was going out of town and wanted to make sure the racoon did not remain in my garage after I did my best to try to encourage it to exit on his own by leaving my service door open with a radio blaring. This was the day after I had left my garage door open all night by mistake and found the weather strip damage. The other company advised me they could not arrive until the next evening (at the time I was leaving town), and would have to charge me an emergency rate of $325.00 to come the same day or the next morning, plus daily high rates to check the traps. I then called Carl's Wildlife Control and spoke with Carl who was very kind and caring understanding my need for his immediate service. Carl arrived the next morning to set two traps. I trusted Carl and left my garage door opener with him so he could come back each day to check the traps while I was away. During my absence Carl determined the Racoon had left on his own. During my absence he removed the traps and Instead of leaving the garage door opener in my garage as I advised him to do, he felt it would be safer to leave it with my neighbor that I had introduced him to and sent me a message letting me know what he had done which my neighbor also notified me of. Carl was kind, courteous, honest, trustworthy, and compassionate about the well being of the Racoon, and very reasonable in his fee. I paid Carl his initial fee to set the traps which he did not request up front but I insisted and wanted to pay him since I was leaving town. When I returned I expected to have an invoice for the charges for him to come daily and check the traps. After waiting a week and not receiving one I texted him and questioned him about it and he advised me there was no additional charge since he did not capture the racoon. I told him I wanted to pay him for his time and mileage to come back each day to check the traps and he insisted that it was not necessary; hence the reason for me writing this review. Carl is an example of all that is good in this world, both personal and business. You may not think you need an expert to get the critters out of your attic, but believe me, you do. I was reluctant to spend money on a raccoon-removal service at first. I thought, "How hard can it be?" In most of my man-vs-nature battles, I am the victor. My Internet research offered loads of tips: point a speaker at the attic and blast them with bad talk radio; spray your attic with coyote urine; rig a motion-detector light that turns on as they climb your downspout. Easy, right? Nope, not easy. I didn't realize that all my DIY efforts were using up valuable time. As I searched for a Home Depot that sold coyote urine, real and significant damage was happening in my attic. Beams were chewed, soffits were dismantled, insulation was ripped and contaminated. After several weeks of contending with the sounds of gnawing, scratching and screeching in my attic, I could take it no longer. I picked up the phone.and called Carl. There are many good reasons to hire Carl's Wildlife Control to rid your house of raccoons. First, Carl is friendly and prompt. He came to my house the day after my call to evaluate my attic space and set traps. Second, he's reasonable. Carl's service visit charge is less than $100. After that, he charges by the cage load--less than $100/cage. Third, he truly is humane about the whole process. Trapped animals won't sit in your attic for very long - they are removed within one day. Fourth, he is discreet. His pickup truck doesn't advertise to the neighbors that he's a critter remover. Trapped animals are nicely cloaked in black plastic garbage bags for the ride from the attic to Carl's truck. Fifth, his methods are effective. Within a week, he had humanely trapped, removed and relocated 4 adult raccoons from my house who had been using my eaves as The Love Shack. Carl also put me in touch with a company that could handle the icky next step -- restoring my attic to its pre-raccoon state. That was so-much appreciated. Our house could have been called the Burr Ridge raccoon hotel. We had repeated raccoon infestations and we initially used another company to remove the raccoons. When it became evident that they were back we tried to get the original company to come back since we were still in the warrantee period but they kept taking our phone number and promising someone would give a call and schedule a technician to come to assess our situation but six months later we are still waiting for them to return our call. We finally realized that they were not going to come so we started calling other companies. I called one company and they told me that they were too busy but that I should give Carls wildlife service a call. He said that he was the best in the business and very honest. I decided to give him a call and I am very happy I did. He came out and set the traps and came back regularly to check on them. He is not only good but he is very reasonable and honest. We had an issue this morning with a skunk trapped in our backyard. Got Carl's number from my boss (her vet in Elmhurst also recommended him). Gave him a call and he was able to come out right away. He was actually at our house in about 30 minutes. He was very knowledgeable, thorough, fair, and professional. He got the skunk out of there in a very short time. NOBODY OR NOTHING got sprayed either. You'd never know we had a skunk back there. He also took the time to walk around our yard/fence and show us possible spots the skunk got in.
