We noticed a bad smell coming from the attic, and called Critter Detectives to come out to confirm if it was a deceased animal and if they could fix the exterior openings to keep more animals out. Lou, the owner, answered my call and agreed to come out the next day (Saturday). He removed a deceased squirrel (and a bird or two) from the attic, and cleared out about 4 garbage bags full of straw and nest material. It was a dirty job and the attic is VERY tight, but he cleared it out quickly. Then he went outside and put new metal coverings over the openings at the top of the roof. Everything was completed in only a few hours. Lou is fantastic. Very knowledgeable, efficient, and kind. And the entire service was a very fair price. Got a referral from a friend for this company as I needed some squirrels removed from my attic. Critter Detectives answered the call with flying colors! Long story short - they trapped and removed five squirrels (momma and four babies) from my attic. Very responsive and good communication. Extremely respectful of property as well. He had to come up with a unique solution to close up the access hole the squirrels had made when the job was done. On top of that, my house had three other areas identical to the one the squirrels used and he went around and closed those up without me asking and at no additional charge! Update (2/20/18): it was only after leaving negative reviews that I finally received a call back from the owner. Apparently the soffit reinforcement was completed by a sub-contractor, which has since gone out of business. Had Critter Detectives informed me of this upon my first call on 1/11/2018 I would have taken the appropriate steps to find a repairman. However, I was not told this; not the first time I called, nor any other time I had left messages. Since receiving that much delayed call back I have had messages left for me from the owner asking that I change my reviews. So, here you go, I changed it. Critter Detectives did their part with the trapping, however they dropped the ball in regards to communicating anything about the sub-contractor. (Originial 1/26/18) I am beside myself with frustration and disappointment with this company. We paid nearly $600 for trapping and to have our soffits "reinforced" only to have animals in our attic again. On 1/11/18 I had noticed that a 2 foot section of soffit was moved, so I called asking that they return to remedy the situation *before* any animals move in. I was told that someone would come out in the next two days. It is now 1/26/18 and I have called SEVERAL more times and left messages with no response. As I type this I hear animals scurrying around above me. I have been patient, I have given them the benefit of the doubt, however that patience is now gone. I feel that at this time I have little choice but to file a complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's office as I now have to pay ANOTHER company to remove the animals and repair the "reinforced" soffits. read more

They came out and set some traps for raccoons that were in my attic. Took awhile but we finally got them out. They boarded up the holes in siding where animals had gotten in. The owner is awesome. I contacted the Detectives & he stopped out 5 days ago. He surmised the situation and decided the raccoon was only coming & going one way. The head detective built an entrance/exit so he could fix a trap, per my request. On Sunday night, she was caught, and the Trapper was out a half-an-hour later on a rainy Sunday night, to retrieve the mother raccoon, and 4 kits. Great thanks to Lou at Critter Detectives. Why? Because something had not worked according to plan from an earlier job they had done at my house, and Critter Detectives came back and fixed it -- no problems, no worries and done properly (within a couple days of my call). Sometimes things don't go the way they are planned and need to be fixed. Critter Detectives did that -- fixing it for me at no additional cost. Originally, the job was to put in a heavy screen barrier between the ground and the bottom of my enclosed porch. It was to be installed all around the front of the house, up to the point where the house foundation starts. The purpose of the metal screen was to stop the ground squirrels from digging in, under my closed in porch where they had set up a huge burrow. I had put in stinky stuff to keep them out and everything else you can think of. Anyway, Critter Detectives sent someone to come do it. Unfortunately, that worker didn't complete the screening installation, stopping a little short of the edge of my foundation. The result that I just noticed a couple days ago? The ground squirrels had found the gap and dug back in, under my porch. It must be quite the underground palace to live in during a cold, Chicago winter. We had a side walk replaced next to our home. The workers broke a hole in our brick work. It was open 2 days before they repaired it. Unfortunately, the hole led to our basement. My husband opened the basement door the night they finished. He heard a noise and saw an animal run behind the dryer. We called the city in the morning. They recommended Critter Detectives. Lou,the owner came out,he was thorough and such a nice man. He checked the basement, left a cage with bait,and within 2 days ,a large skunk was caught! I can not express how creepy it was having an unknown animal in our home! They came,threw a tarp over the cage in case it sprayed,and took it away. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Critter Detectives! Lou also said if we heard or saw anything unusual,he would bring another cage at no charge to catch any other animal that may have come in. We asked critter detective to come out to look at the bat poop in our attic. I found it when I went up there to run some wires. It was not much but I wanted an expert to look at and remove, and maybe put a trap if the bat came back. Critter detectives came out and looked at the bat poop and then just confirmed to us it was bat poop. It said it does not clean up the poop but that we had to clean it up ourselves. It did offer to caulk our attic for $1100 however. For this confirmation of what we already knew we were charged $150. We were surprised at this since we had used them in the past for pests and they actually did something to help resolve the problem. Will likely not use again. read more

We had a family of skunks living under our front porch. Lou came out within a couple hours, set up traps, caught them all within a couple weeks at best, and took care of the problem completely. Caught a squirrel in our trap and they came out without a charge to remove the squirrel, reset the trap, and even set up a little blockage to prevent the squirrels from getting back in. I discovered I had gutter damage from squirrels. Called Critter Detectives who set traps on vertical roof not near gutters or access points. Wasn't impressed with their work. Got invoiced again after I paid and check cleared. I would look at other options first before going with them. read more

This is still on going. They caught 2 animals but after that they do not even come to your house to change the cages, one is even broken cause they would not come to retrieve the animal.
