Strutton Ground Market is a small street market held on weekdays near the Victoria section of…read moreLondon. The market is named for the narrow cobblestone street that it is located on. It is one of the most centrally located street markets in London. The market mainly caters for local residents and the office population in the immediate Victoria Street area, selling food, groceries, books and clothing, but is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. My wife and I visited the Strutton Ground Market while we were on a trip to London in April 2019. We had just visited Westminster Abbey down the street, and my wife told me about a great street market that we could stop at for lunch. She had studied abroad in London and knew her way around the city pretty well. There were so many delicious-sounding food vendors that we had trouble picking. I decided to order from a Middle Eastern food vender called Falafel Zaki Zaki. I ordered "The Whole Shebang Wrap" which was stuffed with falafel, eggplant (aubergine), salad, hot peppers, pickled vegetables and white sauce. Just as I was about to take a picture of the delicious wrap, the vendor posed for the shot and had me cracking up. That wrap was so good!! My wife found a cool Indian street food vendor and ordered some Samosas and a side of Chicken with Rice. We ended up sharing all of our food and were very happy with our choices. We'll definitely stop again on our next trip to London.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

While the market is worth a trip in and of itself (if seemingly endless streets of awesome vintage finds and other food stalls are your thing), The Poutinerie sealed the deal for me. If you've followed along with my reviews this shouldn't surprise you, but I consider myself something of a poutine connoisseur. I wasn't super optimistic about the quality of the poutine in London, but I had no reason to be skeptical, as The Poutinerie delivered. Maybe it's just because everything is better served out of a food stall, but the dish was great. I got the regular, and the curds-to-gravy ratio was good, and the fries were fresh. No complaints here! Service was quick and friendly as well. It was a little more expensive than I was expecting, but well worth it considering just how badly I was craving poutine at the time.

I merely eat it when I'm away from my poutine addicted girlfriend; hoping to make her jealous. The Poutinerie had a great, eye-catching signage. There was a chalkboard explaining what poutine is and what they offered. If you want to compare poutine, do what I did and order the original. Otherwise, you can order the The Coq au Vin or the Philly Cheese Steak. I'll upload some pictures so you can see what this includes. I overheard as I walking past once done with the markets that this was their first day. I hope it went well for them and I hope they return. I think they have a really good product.

I love this place for the diversity of bikes - you get to see some proper old school stuff here. Last Sunday there was a 1926 Matchless in superb condition. Usually a range of other more modern stuff, from Supersports bikes to Harley's. The bacon and egg rolls are immense -proper bacon, really thick, with fried egg on top. Only gripe would be the brown sauce is not HP sauce! If you like motor or mountain biking, horse riding, or just fancy a trip out of the city, then pop along. It's right at the beginning of Epping Forest, which is a lovely place for a walk or ride. Essex has some really excellent biking roads. If a mountain biker or horse rider, the forest is great for your off road needs. It's bit hard to find 1st time, being off the beaten track, but it is worth the effort. Weekends can get busy. Oh, forgot to mention - it's cheap.

Acklam Village Market is a street food market with some of the best street food in one place that I have ever seen. Not only do they have great food, there is a bar with a decent amount of seating. Like I said, we were there on a Saturday so the place was packed. I would definitely recommend arriving early and sharing with friends from a couple of the vendors. You are going to want to try everything and are going to have a very difficult time deciding what you want. We ultimately decided to split shawarma but it was so big we were too full to get anything else unfortunately. This market is totally legit and you will definitely want to visit it on your trip to London.

The fenced-off section is open at weekends only, but there are always some stalls to be found on Fridays too alongside the orange van selling proper Italian coffee from his VW camper. The selection ranges from more predictable Thai and Indian buffets to wraps from Venezuela or Jamaica. My favourites are the rice dishes from Afghanistan or Iran - delicious home cooking from countries I will probably never visit - and amongst the few not relying on deep frying. Apparently the music has returned to Bay 58!

There's also a fireplace, which I never saw lit but there's hope. The big boy's breakfast is their piece de resistance; *amazing* sausages, and the rest of the trimmings don't disappoint either. I especially love the tinned tomatoes drenched in their sauce, great to mop up with the generous pieces of soft, buttery bread you're given with your meal. Another great plus for me is the milky coffee; basically a glass of hot milk with what I believe it's instant coffee (I might be wrong here) but DON'T knock it till you try it. It's delicious and you'll probably order another. There's also cakes and other stuff, but I haven't yet bothered to try as the full english is so great. All the food is *very* reasonably priced. The main problem (to me, not to the café owners!) is that everyone knows it's good, and the cabin tends to get packed on weekends. It can be disappointing to travel all the way to Abridge to find that all the tables are taken + there's a queue or bikers who got there first waiting for the next 5 ones to vacate. It's not a big place, and during winter it's too cold to sit outside. The tables are packed together and communal, which it's not everyone's cup of tea. But the fact it's packed reinforces how good the grub is. Arrive earlier or later on the day, beat the crowds and give it a go! It's totally worth it.
