The other night my job had me finish up in the south San Jose area. I stopped for gas next door at a 76 station at Bernal Rd & Santa Teresa. I had never been to this Carl's Jr before, but I decided to hit the drive-thru. I ordered a Western Burger and Onion Rings. Total with tax- $12+. How was the food? Just okay....well, could of been better! I was the only customer in drive-thru, and the food is cook to order. The Western Burger tasted okay, but it had a sloppy appearance. It's supposed to look like the menu photo. You make the burger, wrap it up, and carefully place in the bag. Also, the meat wasn't very juicy. It's char-broiled, but it doesn't have that char-broiled taste. BTW, it's probably not a BBQ grill. They put the meat patty on a conveyor belt, and it passes over flames. When it comes out the other side, the meat is cooked and ready. The Onion Rings had a slight burnt taste. They were good and crunchy, but with a burnt after taste. Now why would that be? Possible reasons: - someone ignored the timer, and they cooked too long - dirty fryer oil - old fryer oil Onion Rings are coated with batter. The batter can pick up flavors from the fryer grease. If the grease is old or dirty, the food doesn't taste right. How was the service? It was prompt and friendly. But when you leave the drive-thru, you have to watch out for homeless people wandering in the parking lot. That's a common parking lot with the Taco Bell next door. I would usually choose to drive through Carl's Jr. but I had several coupons that I wanted to use and thought it would be easier to go in to order Upon entering, I was warmly welcomed and my order quickly taken. I couldn't believe how quickly I received my food - I thought for sure it was going to be cold, but, to my surprise, it was piping hot. I made several changes to the items I ordered and every item came just as requested. Of the sandwiches ordered, the Beyond Burger received the highest praise while the fish sandwiches were dry and definitely nothing exceptional. The waffle cut fries definitely stood out over the regular fries. Even with coupons, my order of four sandwiches, three fries and one small drink was still $31 which I thought was high. I stood at the counter for a long while before anyone even acknowledged me waiting. The manager and other staff were walking by me several times only focusing on getting the food for drive thru. Not even a hello, please wait or at least something to let me know that I'm not a ghost!! The only cashier was working the drive thru window before he said do you need something. I very nicely said yes that I would like to order some food please. My order was just 2 meals and not alot and to the staff it wasn't important. What happened to the good ol days when customer service meant something?? I only gave 3 stars because the poor young cashier young man was nice to me and tried his best to handle all the pressure! I've been to this Carl's Jr. a few times, and I have to say their food quality is pretty good. The taste is consistently satisfying, and they offer a decent variety on their menu. However, I can't ignore the fact that their prices are ridiculously high, especially if you opt for larger sizes or combo meals. Pros: I'm pleased I can get lettuce wraps to accommodate my way of eating, and pleased with the friendliness of sweet staff. My burger and zucchini was yummy. But burger a little cold. Cons: drive thru took forever. I'm used to the high pace efficiency of In n Out. Drive thru speaker was muffled. I had to repeat order many times. IMO management needs to replace speaker so staff can effectively serve! I don't usually eat fast food but if I'm in the area need to get something quick (but not too quick!) I went to this location 6/30/2023 around 715pm and ordered 4 meals which came out to $52 and some change . I do not know how I didn't get my debit card back or recipient. Maybe because my kids were yelling hungry. Anyways around 10pm I notice a two charges to my debit card from the same Carl's Jr . I reported my card stolen. And went back to confront the worker they angrily got defensive after asking why they kept my card and now are using it to make purchases. Carl's Jr on Bernal Rd has always been my family's go-to for fast food especially when we're in a pinch for time. Lately they've gone downhill with their food altho' service continues to be good. The burgers have been dry & if it were not for the condiments that come with it, I would have thrown out the entire sandwich. Another complaint: They fraudulently charged my card without me present nor have I left the house all day. I called them to bring it to their attention & hoping for them to make the correction. Lo & behold ... the # doesn't work, at all! Now I'll be forced to drive out & confront them, as advised by my bank. I drove to the drive thru for a quick bite. I ordered a double cheese burger, it was around 9 am. I felt like a burger. I was the only car at the time so there was no line. I pulled up to the pay window. And waited what felt like a good 10 minutes? I didn't realize at the time that when drivers are at the cashier window, who ever the cook is can also see you. I finally got my burger and left to find a shady area to eat. I took out my double cheeseburger and was in amazement,the two burgers were jutted out two one side of the bun with the spread? The top bun was at a 45 degree angel from the bottom bun, I had to straighten the sandwich out to bring it back into the store, so these two photos do not show how sloppy it was originally. And you know the center piece of iceberg lettuce that's white and curved like a shoe horn? The lady cook somehow crammed the hard white tasteless part of the lettuce in there, and yes it was sticking halfway outside the sand which! There is no doubt in my mind that she intentionally made my burger bad! So I drive back around with burger and receipt in hand. The window person who we'll say looked like the manager, was still there. I asked him for a refund. He then asks me what's wrong with it? I reply back come on! You mean to tell me you can't tell by looking at this?? It looked liked they dropped on the floor!!! The darn double burger was completely sideways! I noticed the cook was peeping at me from the cooking area too. He gives me my refund and as i'm leaving she comes around from the back playing stupid, and asks the manager,window,cashier guy? what's wrong with it?
