Carlos has been our go to Italian restaurant for as long as I can remember. The food is fresh, delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere brings me right back to the good old days. It's an old Italian restaurant that has been around forever. The decor downstairs hasn't changed much but the dining room upstairs has been updated and is warm. If you like loud and down to earth , you'll love this place. Everything is amazing. From the Spedini to the Cappuccino everything was delicious. The only issue is the long waits on the weekend even if you have a reservation. It wouldn't be too bad if they had a comfortable place to Wait. Other then that there's nothing bad to say. read more

We had a 30th Birthday family dinner for 12 for my son last night, and things could not have gone better. The restaurant was packed, but the staff got everyone upstairs quickly and even added another table at my request when I thought we needed a bit more room. Our waiter Charles and the staff were outstanding, polite and professional despite the pressure of dealing with a packed house. The food was, as usual, delicious and plentiful. Food was cold. The first floor was empty. They smashed everybody into the second floor. It was really hot. We tried to open the window. They said they will put the AC on first time there been wanting to go for years everybody craves about the chicken Parm had it. It was cold. The cheese was just slid right off. Home made lasagne paccheri Amatriciana chicken Monte Carlo it's all big orders. For pick up I waited more than 3 hours there for my food . Quality of food it's extremely bad pasta half cooked . And lots of Drama going on at that Kitchen. Person who manger there SAMMY one of the rudest person with customers and employees who work there . Very unprofessional person with no class how to handle customer. And employees working he yelling on like crazy there one lady was crying there . I think she take phone orders it's very sad . Then saw him yelling and cursing on kitchen staff . As well like a mad man . Kitchen staff saying pasta machine not working I told to owner and did not fix it more then . 4 days wow . That's why my pasta was half cooked. This restaurant has my favorite Italian food in New York. The inside gives off old school Italian vibes and the food definitely matches. The calamari is the best I've ever tried, it's crispy and not chewy. The chicken parm is perfectly cooked and the portions are excellent. The drinks are good. The servers and bussers are friendly and remember regular customers which makes the place feel more authentically Italian. Would definitely recommend this place. read more

Came here on a busy Saturday night so I will say from experience make sure to make a reservation beforehand because if not you will wait awhile. The wait is worth it ! The food is absolutely amazing and fresh to order. The ambiance is lively and gives old school Italian restaurant vibes. Servers are friendly, attentive and quick. The food is rich, delicious and full of flavor. I ordered the lobster ravioli and baby shrimps in a brandy cream sauce which was decadent and flavorful. Portions are large (8 ravioli!). First time at Carlos restaurant. We waited while to get water and bread. I noticed two co-worker was arguing in Spanish lol. Ginger ale tasted watery. I went there to try the chicken Francese, it was ok, the lemon taste hit me first. I was looking forward for a balance taste. The bill came out to $44 for two people. Not bad at all. took my parents and daughter here with high expectations based on word of mouth. the food was adequate but the experience was lacking as the air conditioning was not up to par (felt like being in greece in august) on a super hot day and service was awful as they were obviously understaffed today. i would probably take out from here but just to get the eggplant appetizer-this was truly one of the best things i have ever tasted-crispy and super tasty. i am happy to have tasted that great dish but otherwise mediocre. read more

I've been here many times when I lived in the neighborhood and was excited to return during a visit home. The restaurant was full but we had made a reservation, and we were seated right away. It took almost 40 minutes for our party of five to receive our food. My chicken parm was good, but I had ordered shrimp parm. They offered to get me my original order, but by that time, I was starving. Their gluten-free pasta is awful. There's no reason in 2024 to have terrible gluten-free pasta when there are so many delicious options to choose from. I have good memories of Carlos but will try a different Italian restaurant next time. read more

Keep in mind, this review is for the take out area and option only. I have yet to sit in the actual restaurant. I've been hearing about this place for a while and at least wanted to try the pizza. I placed the order online, paid, and came about 30 minutes later to pick up. They were very busy when I came in, with both walk ins and people picking up like me. For the amount of traffic they get during these times, it's not an overly spacious spot. The staff working the counter were very busy, but friendly and attentive. Pizza was good. Everyone's pizza tastes are different, as not all pizza is created equal. I've had better, but have also have had much worse. I also ordered the garlic bread, which wasn't bad at all. Parking lot is aggravating. You can turn into the lot from Central Avenue southbound or turn in from Tuckahoe Road eastbound. The Tuckahoe side has a narrow, steep hill to enter and exit. The lot itself can be busy and fill up depending on the time - as this place shares the space with other businesses. You can also try your luck on the metered spots in the street. Overall a good take out option. I've heard of this place enough to hopefully try the restaurant one of these days. read more

If your a local you know Carlos is unmatched in taste and food quality. I had many parties in their 2nd Floor Space and the staff, food and ambience is second to none. The ambiance was that of a home vibe - it was a bit cold and the waiter immediately adjusted the temperature to ensure all guest felt comfortable. Went here for a Birthday party in the upstairs room. Wait staff is great. Very attentive. Cocktail was ok but I think most people here get a half carafe of wine . Pretty good. I had the Shrimp FRA Diavolo with fettuccine. Very tasty and brought leftovers home. There's complimentary bread with butter or oil . They are wheelchair friendly. 10/10 If you need FANTASTIC quality Italian food, this is the place. I've been coming to Carlos for YEARS. I actually had my 1st communion party here (i'm now 34) and the food quality has not changed. There hasn't been anything from a Carlos that I did not like. The portions are huge, and the prices are great. The portions are so large, sometimes my family does take out and we do 2 dinners and it feeds 5 of us + left overs. The staff is always welcoming and accommodating. I would highly make a reservation before going, since I've never seen it not busy. Can't say enough good things about Carlos. I came here for Mother's Day with reservations at 1245pm. When we were seated, there were no menus. We waited about five minutes before receiving menus. Among the first words out of the waiter's mouth was that it was a 90-minute time frame per table. The calamari was sub par and Mozzarella sticks were overcooked. It took close to 40 minutes for our two entrees, chicken parm and penne to come out. When I asked the waiter if it's normal for such a long wait, he responded with it's Mother's Day. After getting our food 40 minutes late, someone who looked like a manager asked how everything was. I responded with, disappointed at how long it took for our food to come out. Her response was rude. It's Mother's Day. We make fresh food. There was no apology or acknowledgment of fault. The chicken parm was a good portion and tasted good. Penne al vodka was ok. Very small portion. If the food is fresh, maybe the first thing they should tell customers is that and note a long wait time.
