At the end of the lesson, he even asked if he could call me, which felt inappropriate and left me with nothing learned. I contacted the receptionist, explained the situation, and asked to be reassigned, which is when I was paired with Frank. While I was grateful for the switch, I do feel the school should have provided me with a makeup lesson since my first one was a complete waste of time. That said, I'm very glad that with only 4 lessons, I was able to absorb enough from Frank to pass my test. I had taken lessons from another driving school over 26 (yes) years ago & I failed twice. The second time, it was over not getting parallel parking right. To be honest, I don't blame the instructor. Indeed, Mr. S. was patient with me. From my challenges with parallel parking to me needing to take a long pause & postponing lessons & the road test due to my mother's 2020 passing, he & I dealt with a lot. I even paid for perhaps more lessons than the average person. Leadway's 15-lesson package with the 5-hour class helped solidified my choice for a driving school. The pandemic, where achieving the goal of earning my driver's license has been one of the few positive things to come out of 2020, going into 2021. I had a lovely gentlemen named Anthony. He was very nice and informative and really wants everyone to succeed and be safe on the road. The main problem I had was with the actual driving lessons. They DO NOT pick you up so I had to get someone to drive me and pick me up all the way out there just for an hour and a half lesson (I live near JFK airport). I told the driving instructor that I had lots of previous experience and mainly just needed help with parallel parking and the K turn. The driving instructor was looking at his phone maybe a third to half of my entire lesson. During my first K turn he was talking on the phone and pointing at me which way to turn the wheel instead of verbally telling me what to do. It was very distracting when I have to look at him instead of focusing on the road and not hitting the curb. At another point he was telling me to "Drive drive drive!" because I wasn't cutting into traffic and speeding up to go around a double parked truck that was maybe 5 blocks away. I was going the speed limit and did not know which direction we were headed and didn't want to change lanes yet without the instructors guidance. I would not recommend this school for driving lessons at all. It's not in a very safe area of Queens and my instructor was just an all around jerk and I don't feel like he helped my parallel parking at all. I never got his name but he was an older gentlemen with an accent. Only reason why I gave this location 2 stars instead of 1 was because Anthony's 5hr class was great. I recently got into an accident that shook me up and so I signed up for lessons again to build my confidence back up and he made me feel better after just one lesson and didn't try to scam me into taking more. He's also really professional and diligent. He's always on time or slightly early for lessons, he never loses his cool, he prompt to respond to scheduling requests, and he makes sure you're comfortable on the road. He genuinely cares about who he's teaching and making sure they know what they're doing and he will doesn't care for instructors who don't feel the same way. An hour before the first lesson , Moses called my son and told him he was running behind and my son should meet him at the driving school. Secondly , he taught my son basic driving skills , no pointers on parallel parking or any useful tips for passing. Her instructor, Steve, was absolutely wonderful, patient, kind, and supportive throughout the entire process. We had a small hiccup along the way, but the receptionist (I wish I remembered her name!) handled it quickly and resolved everything in no time.
