I had an office visit with a cardiologist followed a few weeks late by a PET scan. Both experiences were top notch. The staff was wonderful, they explained every step of the procedure, regularly checked on my comfort/anxiety level and offered reassurance when needed. The facility was clean and easy to navigate. My visit with the cardiologist was through, never felt rushed or dismissed. The doctor, PA and NP listened carefully to comments and concerned, and addressed each one. I accompanied my 74 year old mother to her Cardiac Pet Scan at Carient Heart & Vascular of Manassas on 6/10/25 and what I saw was some of the worse patient care I've ever seen displayed by ANY technician in my entire life, specifically ...the majority of this review is directed toward the lack of professionalism displayed by Shadman. Initially, I was willing to look past his first mistake, which was handing my mother a paper and telling her to sign it blindly without reading it. However, my mother is a registered nurse, and knows that technicians are supposed to explain to patients what they are signing. After she read the document, she told Shadman that the document said that he had explained the risks of the procedure to her, but he hadn't said anything about any risks. He seemed aggravated by her asking about what the document said, but he begrudgingly explained the risks, although he stated they were rare and it was nothing to worry about. My mother and I then informed Shadman that she had collapsed veins and it was pretty much impossible to insert an IV into her arm because they move around and are only surface level, so it would have to be inserted into her hand. However, he arrogantly dismissed her as if she didn't know what she was talking about, completely ignoring everything we had said. He said he'd 'TRY' to insert it into her hand, but he was going to test her arm first. He then applied a cuff to her arm and pumped it up, hoping that a vein would appear (spoiler alert: no vein appeared). Despite the fact that only a surface vein appeared, the technician stuck the IV needle into my mother's arm and when he didn't find the vein he thought he had saw, he began to poke and prod her arm. He began to repeatedly move the needle into different directions despite the wincing my mother was doing from the pain. He did this for several minutes before my mother winced one final time, telling him to stop! He then finally withdrew the needle, throwing it away. After that he finally acknowledged what we had told him all along...that the veins in her arms are indeed collapsed. He then moved onto trying her hand next, telling my mother to make a fist. It was at this point that I began to record his actions because it was clear to me he had no idea what he was doing. He found a vein on her hand and cleaned it before once again, inserting the IV needle. I was watching during this entire process, and although I could clearly see the vein...it took him over two minutes before he inserted the IV correctly. Once again, he poked and prodded around her hand moving it in several directions in "hopes" that he'd find it. In fact, when he was able to finally connect the IV...his exact words were "I THINK I GOT IT." Now I'm no medical expert, but a technician saying "I think" or "I'll try" when dealing with someone's veins...is extremely troubling! He had no idea how to handle a patient like my mother, and he refused to ask anyone else to help him. Once the IV was inserted and taped up, Shadman turned around and asked me if I was recording him...and I emphatically stated yes, I was! He then tried to intimidate me by saying that recording him was against the law and I couldn't do that. However, what Shadman failed to realize, is that I'm a lawyer...and I know the rules of law. Recording your own doctor's visits is legal in over 39 states...and doesn't require consent from a medical professional. It was then that I told him that if he knew what he was doing, I would have never started recording in the first place. Once I saw what he had done to her arm...especially with the amount of poking and prodding he did, my phone came out immediately. Thankfully, Shadman was not involved in my mother's Cardiac Pet Scan or I would have went straight to the front desk to let them know I wasn't comfortable with him taking part in her care moving forward. Shadman Abdulkareem is a true danger to patients and in my honest opinion, should not be working at Carient Heart & Vascular at any capacity. I feel it's my civic responsibility as not only a daughter, but a citizen, to let you know he lacks the experience, knowledge, and bedside manner that's necessary for someone in that field. Thankfully, today's visit did not end disastrously...but if he continues to work on patients the way he did today, a tragedy is in your very near future. The only saving grace of the entire appointment were the two young ladies that administered my mother's Cardiac Pet Scan, one of whom was named Karley. They were both very knowledgeable, polite, and caring...but most importantly, I felt like my mother was safe in their care after I stepped outside so they could perform the scan. Patient safety is really important, and I'm glad that my mom was able to feel safe at least for some portion of her appointment today. read more

What should have been a positive experience turned out to be a Nightmare. If I had of known that I would have endured the arrogant, unprofessional treatment from the horrible technician that I was assigned to. I would have took my chances on the treadmill. The reason I was better fit for the PET was because of osteoarthritis in my knees. I asked the Tech to insert the needle in my forehand because the veins in my arm were either collapsed or moving and frail. He ignored what was told to me at Lab Corp. who withdraws from me every other month. He insisted on his way and botched up my arm. Without an apology or empathy then he goes to the other arm and does my forehand stating "I think I got it". Was he performing a medical service or going fishing. He stuck the needle in without establishing a vein, and just surfaced until he found one. I was so glad he wasn't the one to do the PET test. The two young Ladies that assisted with that were Exceptional. They explain what they were doing every step of the way. They continued to monitor, and check on me throughout the procedure. Very confident and professional. I was never apprehensive about enduring the PET test itself, but a competent and professional Technician or phlebotomist. read more

We see Dr. Soh and his Physician Assistants for 3 family members (2 seniors) and everyone we see at this practice is wonderful, well trained, and efficient. We are able to be seen quickly when needed and have the option of telemed or zoom appointments as well. Scheduling appointments is easy as are the tests done in the office. Been dealing with Carient for a year at this point. I'm done. The doctors do not listen to their patients, the wait time is typically one or more hours past your appointment time and the staff is for the most part rude. I drove 45 minutes today to be seen in the Manassas office I was told to be there 15 minutes before my appointment time so I had to be there at 7 AM. I was brought back at 7:15, which was my appointment time and I was told she was going to let the doctor know I was ready to be seen. By 755, went to check on what's going on, there is no one around. Found the nurse and she said she would look into it. When she comes back, she says the Doctor's not even here yet. I went to the front receptionist, asked her to not charge me for today, she wouldn't even look at me. I told her when he comes in he can call me and we can discuss what I need to talk to him about. She doesn't even answer me. So I walked out. Looking for a new cardiologist at this point. read more

This office is not recommended. They force you to sign a document that indicates if you're late or cancel, you owe them $150, yet they are always an hour or more late for your appointment time or don't show up to video calls. It should be both ways. My time is just as important. I work from a calendar also. If you're late, you owe me $150. How's that. This has been a recurring issue, and I've asked my primary physician for a referral to a new doctor. It's unprofessional and unacceptable. My heart rate is fine until I go to this place then I'm irate. No thanks. read more

Short story: I've been a heart patient with Carient since late 2022 (flutter and Afib). They sparkle. The latest series of appointments, follow up scheduling, and discussions today with the on-call nurse and then the head of the technical department are typical of their patient-oriented focus and solutions by everyone I encountered. Kudos to everyone. And thanks. Longer story: During a pre-op physical in late 2022 I was diagnosed with heart flutter. When asked who to go, the clinic suggested Carient Heart and Vascular. Since then I have had 2 ablations (in early 2023)( and a heart implant (loop recorder) to monitor my progress. My original heart electrophysiologists left the practice and in October 24 I became a patient of Dr. Arshad. We met for the first time that month for a routine follow-up. One of the questions I asked involved the monthly reports from the heart monitor. She said that if there ever was a problem she would call me. Well, early this month she called and asked me to come in. I scheduled an appointment, but I missed it (my fault). The staff kindly rescheduled it with PA Nguyen. We met and had a great discussion about my latest monitor readings and the need for another ablation. Due to other health issues that ablation wasn't scheduled until late March. (Shout out to Chris Carpenter: he is one of the best, if not THE best medical scheduler I have ever dealt with. Even my wife complemented his voice message--clear, concise, and understandable, even the return phone number and extension!) My Afib is non-symptomatic. Some days I'm a bit off, maybe a bubble off, sluggish, slow thinking, etc. Most days are good. Today was an off day. I thought, perhaps, based on the latest heart monitor results, I was in Afib. But I had no way of knowing because I didn't have access to my heart monitor results. So I called Carient and spoke with the on-call nurse (I wish I remembered her name) about my problem. She listened. We talked about my symptoms, and the heart monitor, and she tried to provide me guidance by talking to the technical staff and then relaying their information to me about getting a monitor reading. She wasn't happy with that process so she connected me to the head of the technical staff. She listened to me (I wish I remembered her name too.). Then she guided me through the process of getting a heart reading, evaluated the results, looked at my past history, and then developed a follow-up plan that included Dr. Arshad. I thought WOW! This is how medicine ought to work. Kudos to everyone, from the front office staff, to the telephone schedulers, to the technical staff, to the medical staff. Thank you. read more
