Ever since I laid eyes on Island Treat on my commute to/from work...I had to try it. The other…read moreday, a buddy and I went over for lunch. Island Treat is located at the end of a 5 store shopping strip. The front windows are plastered with calling card ads that many international/ethnic groceries would have. The interior consisted of a long counter filled with various Jamaican/Caribbean products. The woman working was very friendly and greeted us with a large smile as we walked in. The menu is on a small "bulletin board" with only a couple options. They offer Jamaican/Caribbean dishes such as jerk chicken and curry goat, as well as offering beef patties. You have the option of three different sizes, small, medium, and large. I settled for the jerk chicken and a beef patty. You also get a choice of two sides with your meal and I got rice and beans (one side) and cabbage. They also have other sides like collard greens, macaroni and cheese, etc. The whole meal came out to be less than $6 (I'm pretty sure). Back at the office, I started with the beef patty which was made well (if it was even made at the restaurant)...it was flaky and tasted great on the inside...unlike some of the ones I've had in the past. The jerk chicken was pretty good. Tasted great with the rice, beans, and cabbage. The small size take out container seems really tiny, but at the end of the meal I felt full. Verdict? Definitely a keeper. While not the best jerk chicken I've had, the service was quick and friendly and more importantly the food was delicious and a pretty cost effective lunch option.

this restaurant used to be incredible. The food was well cooked flavorful, and fresh. Ever since…read morethe Middle Easterns took the restaurant over and renamed it AAmir's Halal Gyro, the food is disgusting, stale and nasty everything about it is wrong. It will not survive in its present state. The food is very overpriced however, I would be willing to pay if the food was fresh and taste good. The quality now is not worth the price and I will never go there again. I hate that people can move into a primarily black and brown communities and serve food that is subpar because they don't believe we deserve any better. If I could give it half a star I would.

The woman was friendly when I came to pick up my order but she's was also busy helping in the back packing up the food. Not a problem since I didn't have a long wait but during busy times it could become an issue. And I do hope they stay busy and successful!!! I thought the food was good. I had the medium oxtail platter which came with rice and peas. You get to pick 1 additional side so I chose collard greens. I really enjoyed the spices in the rice. Everything was cooked perfectly. The oxtail were cooked perfectly but I expected a little more for $22. Seems like a lot for mostly rice. Which by the way was more than the $18 listed on the online menu. My husband had the large fried chicken platter which also came with rice and peas. You can choose 2 sides with the large. We had the yams and plantains. Even though the chicken was fried, it was in sauce so became soggy. Not terrible just something to be aware of if you're expecting super crispy. He said that the chicken was good but some pieces were moist and some were dry. Now for the sides.....the yams and collards were delicious but ice cold. Not even luke warm. I honestly didn't feel like scooping them out to heat up. The flavors were on point. The collards had a good spice level. The yams were sweet and spicy. The rice and peas were probably my favorite and one of the best I've had locally. So I'm looking forward to trying some of the other dishes.
