This place has my favourite fried rice ever! With the jerk chicken it's so good, and very flavourful

I discovered the stand at Cambridge Farmer's Market by chance this morning. Chef Shawn is the real deal! I tried the ackee and saltfish spring rolls - a deliciously fresh take on the beloved classic, with just the right amount of Scotch bonnet pepper and seasonings. My husband enjoyed a patty with coco bread, and said the jerk chicken was excellent. We'll be back for sure. read more

Hidden gem! Well, not super hidden, but yeah...it's in a weird industrial area. Caribbean Authentic Restaurant is actually a coupla units down from the popular, Rick's Good Eats, so FYI! I am a fan of Caribbean food, so I thought that I'd check this place out while I was in the area. Verdict? 100% satisfied. There was a Yelp check-in offer for a free doubles with purchase of a meal, but as with most of the Yelp Offers, I find them outdated. I showed my phone to the man behind the counter - who I assumed was the owner - and he said it was from 8 years ago, but he was happy to honour it! Since I was already getting a doubles, I ordered a Curry Chicken with Rice. I was given the option of regular rice OR rice/peas and obviously, I got the rice and peas! Doubles was soo good! It had a tamarind chutney mixed in AND it was just the right amount of spices. I didn't eat the Curry Chicken until a few hours later and it was GOOOOD. It was $12.99 and at least a solid 2-3 portion serving size! Meal also came with a nice shredded slaw which was lightly vinegarette-d. Not slathered in heavy mayo &/or sugar. I usually find Caribbean / Indian restaurant food overly salty and this place WASN'T. So that really stood out! Next time I'm in the area, I'll definitely check out their roti. Apparently they do really good dalpuri shells, as per another customer who was waiting for his food. Yes this place is amazing! I was in town on business and I specifically chose it because I don't get the option to have Caribbean food very often. The high rating on yelp Gave me the confidence to give it a shot I went at lunchtime and there was plenty of people coming and going picking up to go orders, and all of them raved about the place. I asked a couple people what I should get and they recommended the goat curry and the jerk chicken both on rice with peas Of course I went with their recommendations and it was crazy delicious. I don't think I've ever had goat before but it was in a very traditional curry sauce, just the right amount of spice. The jerk chicken was on the bone and literally fell off as I pulled on it with my fork. The rice was slightly spicy but not in a hot way, just a tasty interesting way. Portion was quite large. They also have a drinks cabinet with a wide variety of regular and Caribbean style drinks. A gentleman running the place was super friendly, kind and you could tell he was happy to be running the business and doing a great lunch business Highly recommended. read more

Delicious and cheap roti! We got the curry goat roti, jerk chicken roti and a spicy beef patty. Their rotis are absolutely incredible. Super huge, filling and only $8.99! Their patty was super underwhelming. The crust was very oily/butter and soggy as if they just nuked the patty. The filling was barely there! Was quite disappointed with it. Nonetheless, I'd come back for the roti. They close at 6pm so make sure you get in early! read more

The fine and friendly peeps from Caribbean Authentic Restaurant came to visit us today at work in their food truck. What a treat! I opted for the veggie plate which had rice n' peas, coleslaw, and a heaping helping of potato and chickpea curry - it was DELICIOUS! Coleslaw was perfect - tangy and a bit sweet yet still crunchy. Rice n' peas were super flavourful and the veggie curry was SO good. Spicy but not overpoweringly so and with tons of yummy flavour. I may have to take a nap under my desk now... but it was so worth it!! Looking forward to visiting their restaurant very soon. read more

We were searching around for something different, knowing that we could only have take out in the area we were in. I saw the name of the restaurant Caribbean Authentic and remembered my dear friend from Guyana and the wonderful food we shared over the years. When I saw the menu and the Goat Curry on peas and rice I knew I had to try it. My son wanted to try it too so we ordered 2. I remembered how good the roti was and ordered 2. All to go. About $32 altogether. The service was very polite and the person at the cashier couldn't hide the smile in their eyes which is what you expect from a Caribbean restaurant! When we opened the food up the aroma was awesome! The "to-go" containers were high quality and packed nicely full! The roti is packed in waxed paper and put inside a paper bag. The love of food and the care was evident. The taste of the curry was superb! A little spicy but so rich and the goat was beautifully soft and some pieces had a little pink in the center. How do they do that?! The roti was hot and the yellow pea/bean powder was nicely spread inside. This food, packaging and service is so good I'm going back tomorrow for lunch!! read more

It was my first time trying out this family run restaurant and I was impressed with the hospitality and food. I would consider this more of a take out place as there was only one small area to sit and eat. The young man at the front was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I decided on the rice with jerk chicken and salad as I was told this was one of their popular meals. My order came to about $10.80 and I received a free double for checking in. The double was flavourful and filling. The dough was a little more oily then im used to but the flavour made up for it. The jerk chicken was a little spicy but not overpowering. The chicken was juicy and the rice was cooked perfectly. The jerk sauce mixed into the rice makes it even better. The portions were a good size for lunch. read more

While vacation from the States, we decided to get some Caribbean food and discovered this restaurant; I ordered a curry goat roti and rice and peas with jerk chicken. After taking the food back to our hotel I was majorly disappointed, the curry goat was tasteless/bland and while eating the rice and peas the jerk chicken had an unpleasant smell, after tasting the chicken we realized it was spoiled/rotten meat. I immediately called the restaurant and alerted the owner of the problem. He replied by saying 'okay' and hung up. He didn't even have the decency to offer us a refund or to replace our meals. I called right back and told him I wanted a refund, then he agreed. The customer service were utterly poor and the disgusting food had put us at risk for acquiring food poisoning. I am very disappointed!!! read more

Love this spot and located so conveniently for my colleagues and I! The staff and owners are super friendly, always greeting us with a smile making the experience more enjoyable. Favourites are definitely a tie between the Coco Bun with a beef patty (hello delicious carb overload!) and doubles. Let me talk about these doubles for a second. The bara is a perfect mixture of soft and crispy every single time I order it, making each bite more enjoyable than the last. Try filling it with chicken too, it's delicious! Rotis are delicious too, I've tried chicken, goat and shrimp and they're all consistently tasty. Love visiting here for some Ting or Champagne Cola as well. Now I'm hungry. read more

The service was great. I ordered a beef roti, jerk chicken and doubles. I was very tasty and very filling. I'm from New York and we have an abundance of carribean restaurants. Although the jerk lacked just a bit of seasoning. It was really good. Their pepper sauce is amazing as well a little spicy but definitely try it!! Small little restaurant big jerk flavour had the rise and peas with bone in chicken. Moderately spicey with extra hot sauce on the side. Everything including the coleslaw was great! I would come again great for lunch! read more

My family's new favourite roti shoppe! I ordered the rice and peas, plantains and curry goat and have plenty left overs for multiple meals (how do they know I LOVE rice and peas?). Boneless curry goat was nicely seasoned with just the right amount of spice for my taste. My husband ordered the buss up shot (flaky paratha not to be confused with regular paratha or sada roti) and boneless curry goat. Rest of the family ordered the doubles, chicken roti, curry goat in daal paratha. Everyone was happy with their selection. Driving from North York to Mississauga for Jerk one time was like ok it's good but driving back for seconds the week after well worth it because the jerk was not only deliciously consistent, the oxtail I ordered was simply in one word summed up...perfectly seasoned and incredibly tasty!!!
