I've been scammed before ordering shoes online so I was a bit nervous placing an order. My running shoes fit perfectly but have been discontinued. Carella's showed they had them in stock, I was leery because I spent hours searching online and no one else had them in stock, I couldn't even find them on EBay. Let me start by saying that my family has been a Carella's customer for over 30 years. Carella's was the only shoe store my three kids were taken to get their footware. In addition, I would take my mom there during her later years in life since she had diabetic neuropathy. However, I recently purchased a $140 pair of Rockports since I do a fair amount of standing at my job. Rockports are one of the few brands I feel comfortable in since I have flat feet. In less than 30 days, the Rockports for some reason are falling apart at the tip of the shoe and are fading in color. Note that I work inside and do not wear them 7 days a week. I recently went to see if I can return them and get another pair. My thought is that this never occurred with any of my other Rockports and maybe I purchased a lemon. It happens with cars, why not shoes. I was not given that option by the owner of the store. He offered other shoes, but as I stated, Rockports make my feet feel more comfortable then other brands. To make matters worse, I was treated rudely by the manager and he insinuated that I was a liar and a cheat. He thought I would bring them back every month for a new replacement. He didn't believe the current shoes I had on were 5 years old and in better shape than the current Rockports. I wish I had those 30 years back. The amount of money I spent in that store over 30 years and to be treated that way really turned me off. They will no longer get another dime. So think about this for the future. I placed an order and received my order within the next week that I placed it. Unfortunately, the size I ordered was too small, so I contacted the shop to start processing a refund. I reached out to the shop at least 5 times, waiting for a response that never came. I finally received a response 13 days after I originally placed my order. Keep in mind, the refund policy is 14 days. The owner asked me to ship out the box immediately to receive the refund, without even providing a return label. I had to pay for the return label myself, which totaled out to over $30. After returning it, I finally got my refund processed, only to find out that it was only partially refunded to cover only just the product, and not the original shipping cost. Not once did someone mention that I would not get fully refunded for the entire amount that I spent. Having to cover the cost for the return label AND the original shipping on the order totals out to over $50, which was literally half of the amount I got refunded. Essentially I lost money just trying to return an order that simply did not fit. Worst experience I've had with a small business. Never ordering from this shop again. read more

I've passed Carellas Shoes many times through my life and always assumed it was a dying shoe store that catered to a aging clientele or an overly expensive shoe store because it wasn't a chain. Boy I'm sorry to say how wrong I was and disappointed I didn't go there earlier. I now have a child and a friend suggested Carellas. I was a little surprised and still unsure but I figured why not. I can always walk out. First off the store is very clean and organized and has all the popular high quality brands you find everywhere else, so my notion of it being for old people was wrong. So it must be that it's super expensive, wrong again! Prices were exactly the same as Stride Rite store and New Balance Store if not a few bucks cheaper. Granted these aren't cheap brands for children and I didn't look carefully at all the brands so there may be cheaper style shoes there as well, I simply didn't look because i specifically needed high quality shoes this time around. So with all my preconceived ideas proved wrong I was happy to shop there. Here is the thing though, the customer service was outstanding! I think I've gotten complacent with mediocre service becauseit is everywhere nowadays so it was refreshing to have someone who was knowledgable, kind to my son, helpful and patient all with a smile. If the shoes were more expensive then other stores I'd probably still shop here for the simple fact that the customer service was that good. We had been to center city philadelphia, new hope, flemington nj, and even princeton nj and no luck. When i went into Carella's they offered a wide range of shoes and at various price points, from inexpensive to high line expensive brands. I was looking for a closed back clog and they had the Milan Side zip slip-on by Spring Step and they were perfect.
